Flute Thing (edit W/Breaks) (4:30)
Do What You Gotta Do (edit) (4:20)
Review: With no less than nine releases on the label to their name already, Black Cash & Theo AKA Thelonious Beats are Galaxy Sound Co's most experienced editors. Here they deliver another fantastic "45" packed with righteous grooves and life-affirming jazz moves. It's the latter that comes to the fore on side A's "Flute Thing", a sweet and seductive drift through picturesque jazz territory with some additional loose-limbed drum solos edited in halfway through. "Do What You Gotta Do" on the other hand is a simmering, string-laden soul treat rich in killer instrumentation, sumptuous orchestration, chunky grooves and hazy vocals. It's a fine edit of a superb cut and easily the record's standout cut.

Groovin' (remastered edit) (3:34)
Little Green Apples (remastered Jazz mix edit) (2:57)
Review:  Black Cash & Theo AKA Thelonious Beats are Jedi love beatmakers and edit kings. The bulk of their work comes on the Galaxy Sound Co label out of the US of A and just a few weeks after their last outing they return with two more golden grooves. This one is a real heater to keep you warm during the winter months and ensure your New Year's Eve goes off in style. 'Groovin' stays low and rides a lo-fi boom-bap with soulful guitars and heat damaged organ chords. 'Little Green Apples' (remastered Jazz mix edit) is super sentimental and rich in sound.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Record has very light surface marks/smudges, but otherwise in perfect working order***

Galaxy Sound Co's Black Cash & Theo AKA Thelonious Beats are the most accomplished edit duo on the label. They know just what to do to tweak and touch up classic tunes into sympathetic modern versions. Here they work on supremely funky, soulful, jazzy fusion tunes that sound familiar even if you don't know exactly what they are. 'We're In Love' is a real smoother, a heart melter with smooth chords and life affirming riffs that are gentle but hugely emotional. The flip is a tune that has been sampled heavily over the years and is another seductive and sensuous funk jam with lush synth work and steamy drums that get right into your affections.

Coco (4:30)
Review: American jazz/funk flautist and occasional saxophonist, Joe Thomas dropped 'Coco' originally way back in 1976 on his Feelings From Within album. It has become a much loved funk, disco and soul cut ever since and so has been pressed to its own little 7" several times before. Here Octave Lab reissues their 2018 version with the original as well as a Funky Soul Brother Edit. It's a subtly joyous cut that will never not sound good and is always guaranteed to bring the good times to any club setting. The Funky Soul Brother edit is nice and deep with lush flutes seducing as they soar to the heavens. The original has all the same magic.

Just In Time To See The Sun (3:00)
China Doll (5:05)
Review: First released back in 1973, Flying Dutchman aver their grand standing on the parapet that is the New York jazz scene with a timely new reissue of Leon Thomas' 'Just In Time To See The Sun', which now appears with a different B-side counterpart. Shaker-uppers, these sonic sailers are! Where As 'Just In Time...' itself first surfaced as the B-side to a stirring album cut 'Never Let Me Go' - which also graced the pimpin' Tennessee blues-jazz musician's later record Full Circle - it now comes paired with the pentatonic skiffle 'China Doll'. FD's new curative duopoly on Thomas' bellowing sound flaunts the singer and musician's deep range, contrasting the styptic funk explosions of the titular Santana cover on the A with the shaker-laden Orientalist groove on the B.

Shape Your Mind To Die (5:21)
Review: BGP's 33rpm 7" release features two sought-after cuts by Leon Thomas, both full-length versions that have become favorites among DJs. From his 1973 Flying Dutchman LP Full Circle, 'It's My Life I'm Fighting For' is a standout track featuring top New York session players like Pee Wee Ellis, Joe Farrell and Neal Creque. Clocking in at ten minutes, it's a funky jazz classic with an apocalyptic feel. The second track, 'Shape Your Mind To Die,' is a dramatic five-minute piece also penned by Thomas and Creque. Originally appearing on Thomas' Blues And The Soulful Truth album in 1972, this track is fueled by Pee Wee Ellis' amazing soprano saxophone.

Louis Armstrong & Leon Thomas - "The Creator Has A Master Plan (Peace)" (4:06)
Review: 'The Creator Has a Masterplan (Peace)' might have been performed beautifully by Louis Armstrong but it was written by Pharoah Sanders and Leon Thomas. Sanders was the first to record and release it on February 14, 1969 and it has since been covered by the likes of Don Cherry, Krokodil, The Dynamics, Lord Echo and many more artists right up to the present day. Here we get the Leon Thomas versions from 1969 as well as the one he recorded alongside Louis a year later. Two sublime sounds that make the whole world feel at peace.

Review: "Continuing in the popular tradition of slick, supremely produced 2010s neo-soul, comes this unique collaboration between CC's Duval Timothy and multi-instrumentalist / producer Cktrl. A separated 2x7" LP with two long-form suites of equal length on either single side, the artists invite us to "play both records at the same time or play them separately and hear different versions". Line up the two files / discs correctly, and you'll hear the intended effect; ambient solo piano, plucking synths and fluttering stereo brass, conveying the unison of two artists who have by now become deftly in tune with one another's respective practises.

Review: The Tito Lopez Combo first emerged at the turn of the millennium with a bang on Acid Jazz, and they've slipped out a plethora of albums and singles since then, taking the odd bit of time out but never losing their funky touch. Headed up by sureshot drummer Harbans Srih, they come back to regular haunt Burning Sole with a two-tracker of pure funked-up heat, leading in with the simmering disco-tinted flavour of 'Down At The Club' which comes on like Hot Chocolate in all the right ways. 'The Chicken' gets into a heavier strain, riding Srih's bashy drums and letting the brass blast out like you know it should.

"Mamblues" is a frenzy of hot 'n fast slice of Latin action from 1958 that still very much hits the spot. Review: More must-check reissue action from crate digger Kev Beadle's Mind Fluid label. This time, Beadle has decided to mine Jan Tober and Ron Scatterfield's exceedingly rare, sought-after 1975 album As Long as There's Music. It's a wise choice, because the set is a beautifully breezy fusion of samba, Latin jazz, jazz-funk and folk, topped off by sweet, easy listening style duet vocals by Tober and Scatterfield. The most club-ready of the quartet of cuts on show is opener 'What Game Shall We Play Today', an inspired and life-affirming Chick Correa cover blessed with wonderful pianos and superb percussion. There's plenty to get excited about elsewhere across the EP though, not least sublime, loved-up closing cut 'With The One You Love'.

Review: Three-piece funkers Tokyo Groove Jyoshi formed in 2018, and between them Emi Kanazashi, MiMi and Rina Hoshino know how to lay down some serious grooves. Linking up with the Vintage Vinyl HK label (formerly based in Hong Kong, now in Scotland), they present a killer two-track single uniquely lathe cut on an 8" and limited to 100 copies. 'Rise Up' is a sweet instrumental joint with oodles of organ goodness and a springy beat for those uptempo, jazzy moments in your day. By way of contrast 'Foxy' gets down low, leaning in on mellow Rhodes licks and a sumptuous bassline, letting a little vocal magic into the mix, providing the perfect smoky foil to the A side jollities.

Review: Mr Bongo's Brazil 45s series gets its rock on with two hairy grooves, both of which have enjoyed the sampler's crafty knives over the years. First up, Tom Ze's "Jimmy Renda-se" rolls with an oily sleazy groove that's peppered by a playful lyrical rhythm that transcends language barriers. Ben's "Take It Easy My Brother Charlie" joins the dots between Samba and very light Rock with all the signatures that made Mr Ben the legend he remains to this day with big vocal harmonies and infectious textures of Brazilian percussion.

Floating Points & Marta Salogni - "A Call From The Eaves" (7:24)
Review: Ambient jazzdance megastar Floating Points continues to explore the collaborative and multi-instrumental aspect of his craft, following up his most recent splash collab with Pharoah Sanders here. 'Intimate Immensity' is a recording made in response to Tomaga's 2021 original album of the same name; the UK experimental electronic duo are a low-key pair, but their experimental free jazz works have taken the most miserly heads by storm in recent years. The remix is also a collaboration with one Marta Salogni, the prolific Italian sound engineer whose mixing and mastering credits include Bjork, Planningtorock and Animal Collective, making her one of the industry's most central go-tos. On the B is the ambient piece 'A Call From The Eaves', reminiscent of the lo-fi ambient works of Gigi Masin or Cabaret Du Ciel.

Toni Tornado - "O Jornaleiro"
Som Tres - "Homenagem A Mongo"
Review: Rich gutsy soul from a man who's regularly described as Brazil's James Brown, "O Journalerio" is a blueprint funk jam. Released in 1971 (on his hyper-rare album BR-3) it's all about the orchestrated swing, bluesy groove and Hammond licks so lavish you need to towel on every listen. Flip for Som Tres... An off-shoot of the Sambalanco Trio, it's the sound of Cesar Camargo Mariano controlling a restrained rolling slice of filmic instrumental funk where horns, keys and drums gather momentum with big band drama. Neither have been released on 45" before, making this all the more special.

Review: Mr Bongo offers up an incredible 86th volume in the Brazil45 series, and this time it's Black Rio funk from two mainstays of the sound, Toni Tornado & Zeca Do Trombone. A-side 'Sou Negro' is from Tornado's 1970 EP on Odeon Records. It's a sought after number that despite lasting only just over two minutes still makes an indelible impression. Zeca Do Trombone & Roberto Sax join forces on the flip for 'Coluna Do Meio,' which is a more smooth, easy going jazz laced tune compared with the raw and direct a-side. This one has an acrobatic vocal and sunny riffs bringing pool-side vibes under clear blue skies.

'Piropo' is a playful Latin soul and boogaloo song, which hears Tony emphasise his love for his girlfriend. Review: It seems so obvious you wonder why it doesn't happen more often: Stefano Torossi's "Feelings" album from 2000 was made up of track titles that convey certain situations and emotions that he masterfully reflects in the music. This new double 7" includes the highlights, such as the racing jazz and trumpet stabs of "Running Fast," the sustained and uneasy chords of "Fearing Much" and "Feeling Tense," which is actually a pretty lush bit of smooth jazz. "Walking In The Dark" rounds off the double pack with playful guitars and luxuriant synths that are pure soundtrack goodness. Ace.

Review: It's been a while since we last heard from former United Future Organisation member Toshio Matsuura. He's released very little in the last decade, which is rather surprising given his experience and credentials. Here he goes full-on jazz-funk, serving up a superb cover of Rotary Connection favourite "I Am The Black Gold of the Sun". Unlike the better-known Nuyorican Soul cover from the '90s, Matsura's version feels chunkier, heavier and thrillingly raw, with eyes-closed guitar solos clustering around a guttural groove. Of course, the track's life-affirming piano riff is still present, and Dayme Arocena does a terrific job in providing a suitably wild, passionate lead vocal. The two tracks included on this limited 12 inch are exclusive to this Japan only release and did not feature on the Brownswood long player .

It is the rich heritage of Latin underground sounds he leans on most as he threads together his own edits of classics from that world into two steamy new jams. His vibrant rhythms come peppered with mystic flutes and Latin vocals, psyched-out guitars and soulful melodies that make for truly captivating listening. The originals were chosen for their historical significance and cultural impact and have been sympathetically touched up here.

They have the honour of being behind this first-ever release for the new Choi Records funk label - it's a reissue of their correctly entitled 'Fire' 7" which packs in plenty of real heat. The A-side is a mad and high-speed chase with prickly drum work and some characterful and conversational flute and horn leads that play back and forth with real energy. These two tunes both break borders and travel far and wide. They were first covered a decade ago and have been put out as part of a live album before now, with the talented Becca Stevens on vocals. Review: Colemine continue their 7" singles charge with this new one by Tre D'Ambrocia, a budding contemporary soul singer - to say their future prospects are "promising" would be an understatement. Sullen but no less emotional, A-sider 'Closer' is a nighttime, g-funk-whistling exercise in soul, with D'Ambrocia's vocals seeming to span both soul and r&b as it cuts through the mix like a beckoning finger, urging us to "come closer". The B-side, meanwhile, hears D'Ambrocia cover the Toots And The Maytals original, for an initially dispiriting yet ultimately cleansing new leaf in song form.

The Troubleneck Brothers - "Back To The Hip Hop" (4:13)
Les McCann - "North Carolina" (3:25)
