Review: Long-time turntablist, erstwhile Christine band member and recent 45 Live crew member, North French Aeon Seven delivers his first ever 45. A loose-swinging, wah wah-rattling, organ-blasting feel good b-boy bomb with all the cheeky chops and cuts you'd expect from a deck wizard of his calibre, "Seven Breaks" is primed for party and battling devastation. Complete with a creative DJ acapella scratch cut, this 45 is alive.

Love Somebody (2:51)
Promised Land (3:22)
Review: The JalapeNo label never fails to serve up the sort of hot and spicy funk sounds that electrify dance floors. It is UK beatmakers The Allergies who take care of this one with fire-in-the-hole future classics that pack powerful punches with their famous signature sound. First up is the vintage funk of 'Love Somebody' with its big and beefy breaks and vintage sounds. On the flipside is 'Promised Land' which is the title track from the forthcoming album. It's a big and bulky breakbeat smasher that will get the feet tapping and the fists pumping.

Jumping Off (3:17)
Gather Around (3:23)
Review: Bristolian funkateers and confirmed party-rockers the Allergies have enjoyed a pretty prosperous 2020, with the release of their fourth studio album being followed by a string of singles - a number of which ending up riding high in the NACC US college radio sharts. 'Jumping Off', their final single of the year, is another intensely upbeat, club-ready affair, with regular mic man Andy Cooper (of Ugly Duckling fame) and a crew of female backing vocalists riding a bombastic, party-igniting groove that sits somewhere between hip-hop and deep funk. Flipside 'Gather Around', a bluesy, gospel-tinged stomper full of heady Hammond licks, jazzy bass and infectious verse vocals, is equally as potent.

Double A - "Tell Me" (So Cold remix) (4:32)
Review: Heat Rock add yet another breaksy heater to their repertoire and, in so doing, welcome two wicked producers from across the pond into their roster; Altered Tapes from Chicago, and Double A from New Zealand. The former stalwart goes in on an infamous flute loop from The Beatnuts, working in phat kicks and sawn-off breakbeats for a pacier, dancier instrumental version. Double A backs this up on the B with, dedicating a prayer and an amen to the same Dirty South classic. A must-have DJ tool for the aspiring breaks-purveyor.

Bonus (2:01)
Review: Back in 2017, mystery producer The Ambientist offered up two thrillingly retro-futurist EPs that effortlessly joined the dots between ambient, IDM, proto-jungle, ambient techno and dream house. Here, he or she offers up a selection of reworks of tracks from those now sought-after EPs. A-side "10 (Calming Rain For Deep Sleep Edit)" is wonderful: a slow-burn, deep ambient techno number rich in ghostly chords and hushed spoken word samples that reminded us of Biosphere's early work. Over on the flip, label stalwart Rising Sun re-imagines "4 (A Sign Of True Friendship Mix)" as a soul-flecked slab of gently pulsing breakbeat house that's deeper than a Scottish loch and twice as picturesque. "Bonus", a two-minute shuffle through hazy, breakbeat-fired deep house grooves, is also solid.

Back For More (4:05)
Review: Manchester producer Atomphunk's collaboration with Seattle duo Mugs and Pockets, featuring DJ Deviant, is a standout summer release. 'Summer Jam' is a vibrant track with a popping funk bass line and lively rhymes that evoke the spirit of the Native Tongues, blended seamlessly with the Grand Central/Fat City groove and the West Coast bounce of Jurassic 5. This track is poised to be Regulate's biggest hit yet. On the flip side, 'Back For More' takes a more laid-back approach, with Atomphunk crafting a synth-driven groove perfect for those hot, sticky summer days. Crisp beats and Pockets' (from MAP) smooth delivery make this tracka great blend of funk, hip-hop and groove.

First up on the A side there's some widescreen, expansive beatdowns taking place with the massive "Show Me The Funk Breaks" - a fela esque sax screaching ,hammond organ swirling classic you already know from the many times it's been lifted for its treasured sonic ingredients. "Harder Breaks" on the flip is another monumental jam, presented here in instrumental form most recently used for the theme tune of a UK TV show . Blackrock's psychedelically twinged "Yeah Yeah" gets a slight shuffle and refocus while retaining the all the instrumental drama and swashbuckling drop that's led with JB-level bandleadership while the edit of Richard's People take us straight to church, front row centre. Review: For the first volume in their brand new Toxic Funk 45s series, the Breakbeat Paradise crew has turned to two stalwarts of the breaks scene, Easy Now Recordings co-founder Tom Showtime and long-serving DJ/producer Badboe. They hit the ground running with A-side "We Funk Tings", a cut-and-paste workout that peppers a head-nodding, bass-heavy hip-hop groove with funk licks, hazy horns and sneaky vocal samples from a variety of ragga and rap records. They continue in a similar vein over on side B, where the horn and piano-heavy hip-hop-funk of "We Have It Hot" is followed by the boom-bap booty business of "The Time Has Come".

Review: Fizzing funkateers Basement Freaks can usually be relied upon to bring the dancefloor goods. That's certainly the case on this dancefloor-focused seven-inch. On the A-side they rework one of their own classic cuts, offering a punchier and heavier take on 2016 Kylie Auldist collaboration "White Hot". Rich in flash-friend funk guitars, crunchy breaks and life-affirming horns, their new revision is undoubtedly more DJ-friendly than the original album version. Turn to the flip to hear their tidy new take on Smoove collaborator John Turrell's 2013 cut "Won't Get Fooled Again", which they cannily refurbish as a wobble bass-propelled chunk of P-funk flavoured dancefloor soul.

This 7" takes the form of a second volume of Tools on the Cold Beer Music label and it offers a brilliant brace of cut n' paste, surefire party starters and floor fillers. Two sublime tracks on this one: on side A you can hear the drummer (jazz musician Konrad Agnas) get wicked on the ethereal hypnotiser 'BAM!' Get Out Of My Way (Retro Roland Riso Eterno Regroove) (3:47)
Review: Earlier in the year, Matasuna Records reissued two rare and exceedingly hard to find tracks by Peruvian band Bossa 70. They'll soon be offering up more original cuts from the band's sought-after debut album, but before then they're treating us to two dancefloor-focused re-edits of Bossa 70 classics by American DJ/producer Retro Roland Riso. On the A-side he delivers a DJ-friendly "Perfecto Edit" of Think, a horn-heavy slab of Peruvian funk rich in rubbery beats and hazy bass. Just as cheery and life affirming is his interpretation of "Get Out Of My Way". This is an altogether heavier, faster and more stomping revision, though it's the vibrancy of the psychedelic era Latin funk backing track that really sets the pulse racing.

Review: "Breakbeat" means many different things to many different people; perhaps among Juno's customers, the term signifies hard-edged apocalpytic bangouts against judderingly dark soundscapes, completely missing the trick of the fact that its earliest form was a kind of hip-hop that simply emphasised the funk backbeat as a central part. The Breakbeat Junkie are more than worthy reps of the latter category; they here bring the whopping 14th instalment of their Toxic Funk series to the fore, with two funky cuts from the beat master The Breakbeat Junkie himself.

Turn It Up (Brian Kage's Gotta Big Ole Beretta Booty mix) (3:25)
Review: Dez Andres must have had a busy year in the studio because he has a few new joints dropping at the moment. Beretta Music has his latest and it comes in the form of a 7"to follow up his 'Back in My Space' from back in Spring. Once again here the Motor City native, former Slum Village DJ and house maestro dips into his more soulful side with some fresh breakbeat tunes that are sure to get the floor popping. Yelping vocals and some signature Andres basslines finish it in a fiery fashion. Fellow Detroit talent Brian Kage steps up with a booty-shaking remix that gets even heavier on the drums to make for another fine 7".

Deize Tigrona - "Me Chinga"
Review: Man Recordings is proud to present its newest release: Deize Tigrona's 'Bandida', backed by 'Me Chinga'. 100% original Rio Baile Funk.
Deize Tigrona is considered the #1 female baile funk MC from Rio de Janeiro. She has collaborated with Edu K on the infamous 'Sex-o-
matic' release, as well as London's 'The Bug', who released her 'Miniature Du Lulu' on his Ladybug imprint. Deize Tigrona's 'Injecao' is
the backing track, which M.I.A. has used for her world hit 'Bucky Done Gone'. The a-side of this 7" is an exclusive collaboration with
Diplo from Philadelphia, USA, currently one of the world's hottest producer and DJs. Diplo has produced parts of the recent M.I.A. album
and has remixed Justice, Peter, Paul+Bjorn, Gwen Stefani, Claude VonStroke, Edu K and a dozen other hot tickets. On his production of
'Bandida' he fuses the raw energy of baile funk with punk rock riffs. The b-side, 'Me Chinga' is produced by DJ Rafael, a long time Rio de
Janeiro producer of baile funk.

Mr Brown (Blend Mishkin remix)
Review: Heavyweight bass bin shaker from The Dirty Dubsters featuring the rapid fire lyrical skills of Florida based Bass Nacho, with smatterings of Bob Marley thrown into the melting pot. On the flipside Greece based producer Blend Mishkin gives a decidedly less manic skanking angle to the original with muted brass - even Bass Nacho's vocal seems less frantic.

Public Enemy - "Give It Up" (DJ Bacon remix) (4:42)
Geto Boys - "Life In The Fast Lane" (DJ Bacon B Boy Remake) (4:41)
Review: DJ Bacon's latest white label release celebrates classic hip-hop with a fresh twist. On Side-1, the remix of Public Enemy's 'Give It Up' cleverly blends the group's vocals with Soopastole's edit of Kool and The Gang's track of the same name. The result is a dynamic, high-energy remix that pays homage to both classic hip-hop and funk. Side-2 features DJ Bacon's 'B Boy Remake' of Geto Boys' 'Life In The Fast Lane,' a remix that infuses the original with an infectious funk groove and breaks. This release is praised by Chuck D and backed by strong support from the hip-hop community, including Flatline and Hip Hop Gods Radio. The limited-edition vinyl comes with a Mark563-designed sticker, adding a collectible touch.

Review: DJ Deviant's 7" single is a nod to classic hip-hop with a modern twist. 'The Rhythm' on Side-1 is a funky, horn-laden track layered over B-boy breaks, delivering a sound that's sure to get the party started. On the flip side, 'Make Em Bounce' offers a mid-tempo groove with '90s hip-hop vocals, horn stabs, and boom bap drum breaks, creating a vibe that will make you move. This single is great for DJs and 45 enthusiasts, blending nostalgia with contemporary beats in a way that's both familiar and fresh.

Review: DJ Format's homage to the original cut and paste records that pulled generously from the archives of James Brown was originally planned as just the one mix, but Format had so many ideas & samples left over that he decided to do a second mix, resulting in this record Stealin' James Parts 1 & 2. First released back in 2008 on a limited 12", Stealin' James Parts 1 & 2 sold out swiftly and has been the subject of numerous requests. You can all calm down now as Format has decided to release this special 7" edition of the record with two new edits of those mixes - guaranteed floor fillers the both of them.

Enta Humpty (3:21)
Review: French beatmaker DJ Marrrtin has his fingers in a lot of pies, from running Stereophonk to working in groups like Funky Bijou. Now he's up on Friday's Funky 45 with a hip-hop rooted re-flip to get party people the world over rocking out. 'Marrrtin's Scenario' does a damn fine job of re-positioning A Tribe Called Quest's classic 'Scenario' with some organ-soaked funk, while 'Enta Humpty' goes heavy on the boom bap breaks to provide a heads down groove that should get the breakers breaking and the freakers freaking. When you can't get enough heat for that lil box of 7"s, Friday's Funky 45 have got you covered.

Jam (original version)
Review: Exceedingly rare and sought after export business right here. Japanese crate digger and beat shredder Muro is known for unearthing the most obscure samples and loops and recreating a narrative that you usually only hear in horror films or nightmares. 1999's horn-tickling "Jam" is no exception and will find favour amongst Dilla and Flying Lotus fans alike. J Rocc's edit is even crazier as it ups the tempo and adds a whole load of glitches along the way. Vibrant but viscous.

Everybody Everybody (feat Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band) (4:06)
Break Ya Neck (feat Danny Drive Thru) (3:47)
Review: As the man behind so many of the beats for Jurassic 5, not to mention an in-demand producer in many other places, Nu Mark has got chops for days. Roaming free on his own Hot Plate label, last year's Run For Cover was loaded with crisp, seriously funkified gems, and now two of the best have been pressed up as a tidy 7" for all those who love their platters compact. On the A side, 'Everybody Everybody' throws some tropical tones and exuberant organs into the blender with tough boom bap and plenty more besides, making for one sunny blast of a tune. On the flip Danny Drive Thru pops by to add some irreverent vocal madness into the mix on 'Break Ya Neck'.

Soul Party Tune (3:29)
Review: Djar One returns to his Beats House imprint with a 7" that's as funky and groovy as the label's name; a natural home to puristic breakbeat madness that you'll find hard to get from anywhere else. "Be What You Wanna Be" is fast, full of life and percussive swing, and successfully manages to blend the best elements of soul and hip-hop together under one funky roof. "Soul Party Tune", the banger residing on the flipside, has a more West-coast approach, bringing in a noticeable layer of surf rock to truly mash things up good and proper. This is an EP of those wishing to dish out a tune and get the whole place moving...

It Really Matters To Me (3:33)
Review: Aaron aka Double A really serves up a double a-sided banger here for the Friday's Funky 45 label. It is a block-rocking beat with plenty of old-school samples and raw funk drumming that kick off on 'Old Skool Bounce'. The vocals are visceral call-and responses with a classic lead flute sound bring the joy. On the flip, things start with a super cool and breezy beat before a big vocal erupts and the prickly funk drums and rim shots elevate the track. It's another classic vocal top line that finishes it in style.
