Breakbeat Recommendations April 2011

Review: Heavyweight bass bin shaker from The Dirty Dubsters featuring the rapid fire lyrical skills of Florida based Bass Nacho, with smatterings of Bob Marley thrown into the melting pot. On the flipside Greece based producer Blend Mishkin gives a decidedly less manic skanking angle to the original with muted brass - even Bass Nacho's vocal seems less frantic.

Review: Formerly on Sunday Best and now on Jalapeno, Max Sedgley drops a third single from his acclaimed Suddenly Everything long player. With Tasita D'Mour taking hold of the lead vocal slot with both hands, "Superstrong" is a mean, boogie-inspired monster with classic strings and a belting chorus all present and correct. Faze Action really lift it to new heights though, dropping a post-Italo mix that will delight Aeroplane fans with its stripped down drums and bass and dramatic live drum-fills. Jalapeno label mates Basement Freaks also do a great job by dropping a funky breaks mix that reinvents the tune into a fun yet hard-working stomper.

Review: Bomb Strikes drop their first twelve of the year filled with all the weaponry a house party needs on one handy twelve inch. Pimpsoul commences proceedings with the chunky mid tempo electro bounce of "This Time" which craftily utilises a well known vocal hook, twisting it around the speaker worrying crunch. Bomb Strike regular Parker occupies similar territory on "Hear Ya Say" opting for a classic psychedelic rock staple to base his multi-layered sampledelic sound around. Antipodean talent Slynk opens the B Side with the Tom Drummond featuring "Woah Now" an expert uptempo melding of p-funk, boogie and filtered breaks whilst the excellently monikered Neon Steve goes all schizoid analogue freakout on the punchy dubstepper "I Got The".
