Review: Past Inside The Present welcomes back accomplished and prolific ambient master zake, this time alongside Oss and Fax who released the original featured track, 'Polymorph' on Module. Here it gets revisited by a top contemporary team after the hazy and absorbing extended mix kicks things off. ASC then goes dark with his mood rework and Zake himself remixes with a more optimistic sense of crepuscular synth lushness. Aural Imbalance layers in some fizzing and malfunctioning electronic sounds, Ossa suspends you amongst his heavenly rays and Influx brings gently broken beats. Fax shuts down this varied offering with a more edgy ambient sound.

Review: Space Of Variants recently described this collaboration between label artists Aura Minimum (real name Vladislav Ishkov) and Flying Cobra (Alexander Khaliulin) as "modern deep sound goodies". While that's a little vague, it's certainly accurate. Across a range of solo and jointly produced tracks, the pair explores a warm, hazy, atmospheric and quietly colourful sound that emphasizes meditative ambient electronics - drowsy chords, drifting motifs and yearning melodies - over the hypnotic dub techno and deep techno grooves that nestle below. It's a formula that results in a hugely soothing, ear-pleasing and smile-inducing listening experience.

Review: Underground Resistance associate Frank "DJ 3000" Juncaj has never been the most high profile crew member, but he's nevertheless provided techno heads with some seriously high quality material over the years - mostly through his own Motech imprint. Here he celebrates 10 years of the label with an expansive compilation featuring some of his favourite reworks from the catalogue. There's a good mixture of robust loop techno (see the reworks from Robert Hood and Ken Ishii), classic UR-ish Detroit club techno (see Enthousiaste Gasten's version of "Pressure"), hypnotic European style floor fillers (versions from Luke Hess and Anoynm) and even a couple of bumpin' downtempo tracks (Glasgow Chavez's remix of "Equatorial Soil").

Review: Three years on from his last full-length outing, Norfolk's leading electronic adventurer returns with a brand-new album, his fifth in total. "Blizzards" is in some ways similar to the melodious and inventive trademark sound he's been crafting over the last 15 years - think bold electronic melodies, unsettling and off-kilter chords, curious noises, and occasional rhythms that sit somewhere between IDM and ambient techno - yet at times it feels more fuzzy and forthright than usual. So amongst the relaxed and slowly shifting soundscapes and quirky electronica you'll find a number of bustling club cuts, with "Stepping Stone", "Vectra" and the surging, sparking "Eris & Dysnomia" standing out.

Review: Despite his relatively tender years, there's no denying that Lewis Fautzi has a firm grasp of techno's classic inspirations. Space Exploration, his second album for Soma, mines sci-fi and stargazing for inspiration, in a similar way to many of the greats of Detroit techno. Musically, there are a few nods, too - see the classic synthesizer lines and shuffling rhythms of "IC10" and the melodious dreaminess of "Apocalypse 14" - though Fautzi's influences are much broader. Amongst the foreboding chords, Drexciyan rhythms and bubbling IDM beats, you'll also find the hypnotism of minimal techno and the expansive ambience of Pete Namlook. Together, it adds up to a formidably atmospheric set.

Review: At some point over the course of their career, almost every techno producer has begun to look beyond the confines of the club for inspiration. It appears that Lewis Fautzi has reached that point. While his previous singles and albums for the likes of Soma, Figure, BPitch Control and Pole Recordings have largely been rugged, dancefloor-focused affairs, "Insanity Department" is an altogether different beast. Altogether deeper, melodious and introspective, the album's seven atmospheric tracks draw considerable influence from deep electro, IDM, krautrock, neo-classical and off-kilter movie soundtracks. As a result, it makes for beguiling, creepy and often poignant listening.

Review: In accordance to the original concept of Polegroup founder Oscar Mulero, the latest volume in the label's ongoing Unknown Landscapes mix series offers up an "atmospheric and distinctive" journey through previously unheard music, this time mixed by label regular Lewis Fautzi. Beginning with the dark, intense and slowly creeping intensity of Christinne's "3562", Fautzi brilliantly joins the dots between clandestine, mind-altering dancefloor techno, buzzing rhythmic workouts, hypnotic psychedelic soundscapes, distorted drum jams, wild acid tracks and industrial strength body music, before concluding with arguably the most gripping and mind-altering cut of all: Adriana Lopez's pitch-black "In Mist".

Review: UK techno veterans Mark Broom and James Ruskin first joined forces under The Fear Ratio alias back in 2011, delivering the inventive - and hugely enjoyable - IDM-meets-techno full-length, Light Box. Here they join forces once more for a follow-up that gleefully explores similar sonic territory, whilst throwing a few more influences - most notably experimental hip-hop and vintage electro - into the pot for good measure. The result is a hugely entertaining album that naturally doffs a cap to Skam Records' dystopian roots, as well as the heavyweight soundsystem throb of dubstep, the hypnotism of dub techno, and the crackling electronic wizardry of Autechre.

Review: There's no denying the credentials of British techno veterans James Ruskin and Mark Broom, or the immense potential of their occasional collaborative project, The Fear Ratio. Having previously impressed with some joint club-friendly ventures, this album sees the duo straying into home listening territory with a pleasingly eclectic set that delights in defying preconceptions. Thrillingly, Lightbox variously touches on crackling dub techno, Sepalcure-ish dubstep wonkiness, Plaid-ish IDM experimentalism, Detroit style melodic techno futurism and Instra:Mental-ish bass-scapes. Such worthy eclecticism rarely works, but thanks to the duo's immaculate production and ear for melody, Lightbox makes perfect sonic sense.

Review: With nearly 40 years experience as a producer, having collaborated with everyone from Holger Hiller, Moritz Von Oswald and Juan Atkins among others, Swiss legend Thomas Fehlmann presents Los Lagos ('The Lakes'). It's his seventh solo full-length (and fourth for Koelsch institution Kompakt), following his Berlin inspired 2010 LP Gute Luft. The multi-talented composer and long standing member of The Orb embarked on a deep journey of soul searching while recording the album - and in the process incorporated elements of art, disco, minimalism, jazz and funk. A collection of glacial and textural dub introversions as best exemplified on "Lowenzahnzimmer" or "Morrislouis", but he also makes room for moments of pulsating hypnotic dancefloor dynamics ("Triggerism") and moments of lush ambient bliss reminiscent of his work with Dr. Alex Patterson on "Geworden".

2000 06 06 Regis vs Female (feat Regis - unreleased)
Review: Downwards co-founder Peter Sutton has spent the last 25 years carving his own dark, heavy and intense niche within UK techno. Yet despite achieving cult status within techno circles, he has never received the wider acclaim that has rightly been bestowed upon his Birmingham contemporaries Regis and Surgeon, despite a trademark style that closely resembles theirs. Pleasures That Kill, an expansive five-disc box set that contains pretty much every track Sutton has released on Downwards and Sandwell District, is a much-needed attempt to redress the balance. Packed to the rafters with pulsating, twisted, all-action techno slammers, the set also contains an entire disc of previously unreleased music - specifically a rare recording of Sutton's 2000 live collaboration with Regis. For diehard fans, the set is worth buying for that CD alone.

Review: Legendary Scottish techno imprint Soma rounds off its 25th year with a surprise debut album from Charles Fenckler, a producer who has been associated with the label since 2014. While he does a neat line in slowly unfurling creepiness (see the ambient/IDM opener "Voices In Your Head", and similarly beat-free "Anxiety"), Fenckler specializes in the kind of throbbing, no-nonsense techno that's always gone down well at Soma label parties. This is dense, rhythmic body music - pepped up occasionally by wayward acid lines, ghostly chord progressions and icy aural textures - that puts heavy drums at the heart of the action.

Review: Berghain resident Marcel Fengler has enjoyed a long and productive relationship with the club's label Ostgut Ton, putting out his first 12" on the imprint - the shuffling carnival techno of "Playground" - way back in 2007. Despite this pedigree, Fokus is his debut album. It is, in many ways, like an extended love letter to electronic music, and techno in particular. Across the album's 11 tracks, Fengler turns his hand to atmospheric ambience ("Distant Episode", "High Falls", the dreamy "Break Through" and Pete Namlook-ish "Liquid Torso"), eyes-wide-shut Detroitisms (the pleasingly melodic "Jaz"), basement-bothering early morning fare (the paranoid "Sky Pushing") and, of course, balls-out techno wonkiness ("Dejavu" and the impressively robust "The Stampede").

Review: Pascal Feos is without doubt one of the most experienced techno producers around. Generally considered to be one of the founding fathers or German techno, Feos is fast approaching twenty-five years on the scene. Terra Bong, his fourth artist album, highlights his creativity and versatility but whilst staying within his signature techno sound. Released on his own label, Level Non Zero, this full length delivers all the class and quality as affirmation of that wealth of experience that lies within the Frankfurt native.

Not one to be swayed by the latest trends in club music, Pascal Feos drops an entire long-player devoid of the influences of minimal or the latest string of tech-house, setting it apart from most techno albums straight away. Instead, all the tracks lend themselves full heartedly to the dancefloor. They are unmistakably tracks for the club, as unrelenting and breathless as they are hypnotic. Perhaps deeper and more refined that his previous offerings, this album has a distinct nod to sounds of Detroit and Chicago that have always inspired the veteran German producer. Taking in sounds that are reminiscent of ten years ago, but mixing them with modern techno gives the album a sleek feel whilst allowing Feos' experiences over the last quarter century to seep out amongst the tracks.

Not afraid of using funky grooves and melodies throughout the album, the mix flows as he builds atmosphere towards darker, trippier and almost proggy territory.

Fans of Non Zero have become accustomed to releases of super deep, hypnotic techno that drives its way through a purposeful and positive journey. Terra Bong is no different, doing exactly that from start to finish. It belongs to only one place - the dancefloor!

Review: In the words of Axel Willner himself regarding his fifth studio album "The Follower is about old myths, finding utopia and how mankind repeatedly makes the same mistakes over and over". The title track is fairly stomping acid techno that hypnotises you with its loopy and sinister repetition until the snare drum and organ sets in around the five minute mark; transforming the track dramatically. There's also some stylish electro-pop noir in the form of "Pink Sun" while "Monte Verita" or "Soft Streams" have that classic Kompakt sound ie: ethereal and dreamy house journeys. We particularly enjoyed the droney shoegaze electronics of "Raise The Dead" and the 14 minute long closing epic "Reflecting Lights", an ambient house journey that even The Orb would be impressed by.

Infinite Moment
Review: Kompakt staple Axel Willner returns to present his sixth full-length effort for Kompakt, following up 2016's rather brilliant LP The Follower. On his latest outing, Willner is said to have looked for inspiration outside of the studio, which opened up fresh perspectives on the creation of new music. Moreover, he has stated that in a current climate of hopelessness, the album provided a sense of relief and comfort to him - providing feel good moments that he did not want to end. Indeed, Infinite Moment is a much more introspective affair than previous releases, from the brooding/slow burning opener "Made Of Steel. Made Of Stone", the smoky and glacial dub techno of "Hear Your Voice" to more evocative moments as heard on "Divide Now" or the life-affirming feel of the title track - which closes the impressive release on an optimistic note.

Review: Swedish producer Axel Willner has always seemed so comfortable with his working method and trademark sound - that "maximal" blend of warm loops, hypnotic rhythms and wide-eyed organic positivity - that it's something of a surprise to find that he initially struggled to find inspiration for this fourth full-length as The Field. Clearly, he found his mojo, because Cupid's Head is as intoxicating and mood enhancing as his three previous albums. His method and formula hasn't changed much, but when he's capable of producing such inspired gems as the organ-drenched "They Don't See Me", the heady title track and fuzzy, near ambient "No, No", why would it?

Review: Despite his well-earned reputation as one of techno's most prolific producers, this contribution to the long-running Fabric series is Alan Fitzpatrick's first mix CD. Happily, it finds the Drumcode regular in fine form, showcasing his wide-ranging approach to late night techno. After beginning with some clandestine ambience and dark downtempo textures, Fitzpatrick proceeds to join the dots between the throbbing peak-time thump of Mike Denhert, the swirling deepness of Bjarki, the spine-tingling rave revivalism of Markus Suckut, and the glassy-eyed Detroit nostalgia of Operator. He wisely includes a clutch of his own productions, too, including the decidedly dystopian "End Theme".

Review: When recording Depth Charged, his first album in five years, Parisian techno maverick Terrence Fixmer apparently set out to "tell a story from start to finish". That story is, perhaps predictably given his track record, an exploration of dark emotions. This manifests itself in a range of ways, from creepy ambience and bleak, droning textures, to the breathless, panicky techno of "Inside of Me" and Berghain-friendly murkiness of the rather brilliant "Pallid Light". With such subject matter, Depth Charged was never going to be a barrel of laughs, but curiously there's still beauty to be find within the clandestine electronics and hypnotic, late night rhythms.

Review: French producer Terence Fixmer rose to prominence nearly ten years ago during the height of electroclash with releases on Hell's International Deejay Gigolos. This was despite the fact that his searing, electro-techno had little to do with that scene's one-note fixations. Thankfully, on Comedy of Menace, his latest studio album, Fixmer sounds more in sync with the prevailing mood in electronic music. "Dark Line", the album opener, is a jacking Chicago-style affair, the doubled up kettle drums and brooding acid riffs climaxing together, while "Things are Over" also makes use of the 303, its squelchy lines underpinning a doomy vocal. "Drastic" and "Alert" sound like a more malevolent take on Function's "Isolation". That said, Fixmer does stamp his own identity all over "Menace"; while modern-day bleeps'n'subs are also audible on "My Experimentation" and "Dance like Paranoid", they are delivered with a primal ferocity that recalls the Fixmer & McCarthy collaborations, with the French producer grabbing the listener's attention through the use of pounding industrial rhythms. When it comes to menacing the dancefloor, few do it as convincingly as Fixmer.

Review: Given his phenomenal track record and no-nonsense approach, the arrival of a new Robert Hood album - albeit under his alternative Floorplan alias - should send a tingle of excitement down the spine of any self-respecting techno connoisseur. Paradise, his first album as Floorplan, largely eschews the intergalactic flavours of 2012's Motor: Nighttime World 3 (we say largely, as the hypnotic "Change" is undeniably Detroitian in outlook), in favour of tracks that take his rolling, stripped-back aesthetic in a variety of different directions. So, we get the funk-sampling "Baby, Baby", the soulful shuffle of "Never Grow Old" (deep house techno, anyone?), and the rush-inducing, piano-laden blast of "Confess". Impeccable... as usual.

Not content with captivating audiences for two decades with his minimal-futurist hypnotism on M-Plant, Floorplan explored his love of sampling, bringing back the vibe of early noughties DJ tools that looped up funk and disco classics for infectious dancefloor dynamics. The Victorious LP is the project's second full length since 2013's Paradise and is co-produced by his daughter Lyric. It features the absolutely massive "Tell You No Lie" which works those loops from the 1977 disco classic "Lovin' You Is Really My Game" by Brainstorm to full effect.

Eating Darkness
Review: When composing his first album since 2018's all-ambient Themes I-XIII, Roman Flugel decided to opt for a more open-minded and eclectic approach. As a result, Eating Darkness touches on many of the stylistic themes that have played a part in his famously lengthy career, while also prioritising the use of modular and analogue synthesis. It's an approach that has paid dividends, with Flugel smartly strutting between evocative IDM ('Magic Briefcase', 'The Best is Yet To Come', the Autechre inspired title track), druggy slo-mo fare ('Chemicals'), new wave throb-jobs ('Wow'), acid-flecked jack-tracks ('Jocks & Freaks;), hypnotic late night minimal techno ('Cluttered Homes'), drowsy downtempo cheeriness ('Locked'), beautiful ambient synth-scapes ('Charles') and revivalist Euro-disco pump ('D.I.S.C.O').

Review: German veteran Roman Flugel's debut album under his given name, 2011's Fatty Folders, was something of a surprise package - a collection of warm, playful and melodious tracks that belied his reputation for hypnotic techno and eccentric deep house. This follow-up retains that playfulness - not to mention a curious pop sensibility with regards to tunefulness - but douses it in the clanking rhythms of machine drums and industrial strength electronics. The production is still pleasingly finessed, but there's also a pleasingly raw feel to his blends of IDM, deep house, deep techno, electronica and classic Kraftwerk (see the standout "Wilkie"). Happiness is Happening also impressively plays around with mood and tempo, with wholeheartedly positive results.

Review: Many would argue that Roman Flugel has been making All The Right Noises for the best part of two decades. Certainly, the prolific German producer's vast catalogue boasts way more hits than misses, with this latest full-length - his third for Dial - being amongst his strongest work to date. After beginning with the slow burning, late night ambience of "Fantasy", the former Alter Ego producer gently raises the tempo throughout, moving from the off-kilter, experimental techno hypnotism of "Dead Idols" and sparse, out-there dancefloor moodiness of "Warm & Dewy", to the ghostly house shuffle of "All The Right Noises", and John Carpenter-meets-Black Dog creepiness of "Planet Zorg". Throughout, it's hugely thoughtful and atmospheric.

Review: It's over a decade since Roman Flugel made his first appearance behind the decks at Fabric. Given that the veteran German producer has been on the line-up countless times since, this contribution to the club's long-running mix series has been a long time coming. Musically, there are a few surprises - the post-industrial oddness of Genesis P Orridge and Psychic TV, the bass-heavy hardcore revivalism of DJ Normal, the dreamy broken beats of Koehler and Ishi Vu - but for the most part it's exactly what you'd expect from Flugel. That means trippy, early morning techno in all its forms, skewed micro-house, warehouse-friendly reto-futurism and dubbed-out Berlin wonkiness. It's a blend that results in a mix that's as entertaining as it is atmospheric (and it's very atmospheric).

Desiderium
Review: Athens dub techno producer Fluxion debuts their latest LP on Vibrant Music, riffing on his earliest days as a member of the trailblazing Chain Reaction crew whilst also bringing said early pioneering stirrings into the present moment. Recorded between 2023-24, this record plays back like an impression of back-roomed delirium; blackout moments in intra-club corridors, where one's sense of time is lost. Louder music may pump away in the room next door, but that's OK, because nothing comes close to this affective hotbox. Branching out from "dub techno" in its strictest sense, 'Touch' adds superluminal, vacuumed Whammy guitar to a swelling, motionless chord repeated throughout the track, and bluesy dub crackler 'Reflections' indulges mournful piano above a scape-squinting mix; 'Desiderium' is the third highlight of ours, powerfully evoking the sense of something irrevocably lost.

Review: Kenneth Christiansen’s Echocord imprint presents a tight package that includes two of the best tracks taken off Fluxion’s Prefused album from earlier this year, plus a dynamic remix of the title track from Deadbeat.

Following several years on hiatus, Fluxion has returned with a flurry of releases since 2009. Prefused was Konstantinos Soublis’ second album in as many years and cemented his reputation for making ice cool dub-techno. Gaining praise as a collection of his most varied and vibrant tracks to date, the album found a new buoyancy and reduction of shadowy textures within his sound. Now, Echochord revisit the album’s sound in a concise package.

"Perfuse" is a gently rolling, dub-techno masterpiece. It is a slow and pulsating track where the sound patterns emerge steadily into one huge organic movement. The sub bass is as deep as you can possibly go and each synth stab arrives with might and vigour. The Jamaican styled dub reggae of "Wabbler" looks back to the early influences of dub in this more unassuming track. It is a live track, recorded in only one take but still contains the depth of texture that is always present in Fluxion’s work. Finishing the package is Deatbeat’s up-tempo version of "Perfuse." The Canadian delivers a driving charge of dub-techno that pushes a fluid groove to the forefront of the track. With some intelligent spatial arrangements, this is one for connoisseurs of either dub or techno.

Signalling a new domain for who is an extremely interesting artist, "Perfuse’s" bending, turning and blending in the Greek’s unique style is complemented perfectly by Deadbeat’s grooving at the end of the package. Perfused is Fluxion moving into the future with his own steady, dub-techno beats

Review: For all its inherent warmth and space, dub techno can be a cold and, at times, almost inhuman in feel. That's certainly not an allegation you can level at Fluxion, a producer whose dub techno offerings tend towards the quietly sunny and surprisingly upbeat. While this second full-length for Echochord has moments of icy minimalism - see the stark "Burst Mode (Edit)" and beatless closer "Motion 2" - its shot through with orange-hued warmth. His hypnotic compositions are peppered with woozy melodies, toasty sounds, twinkling pianos and even, on occasion, the odd vocal (see the fine cover of "No Man Is An Island" featuring a previously unreleased vocal from sadly-departed reggae legend Dennis Brown).

Review: Fresh from a series of 12" collaborations with Deepchord, Konstantonis Soublis AKA Fkuxion drops his first solo album in two years. As you'd expect, Ripple Effect is packed to the rafters with exceedingly atmospheric fare, as Soublis drowsily floats between melancholic deep techno, spliff-sporting dub techno haziness and moments of intense ambient bliss, some of which - not least standout "The Idea" - fix twinkling pianos and dusty samples to sweeping cinematic movements. That he achieves a balance between softly spoken dancefloor fare and head-in-the-clouds beat-less moments is no great surprise, though the album's musical richness and deeply emotive vibe may raise a few eyebrows. Recommended.

Review: Since the release of the dub techno-fired Perspectives album in May 2020, Konstantinos Soublis AKA Fkuxion has concentrated on creating "more intimate work" that draws more heavily on his own emotional state of mind during the production process. As a result, Parallel Moves is even more atmospheric than his previous output - and that's saying something - with subtle shifts in style and tone throughout. Sure, it's still rooted in dub techno and ambient dub, but also utilises modified and manipulated jazz instrumentation, deep post-dubstep rhythms, synth-sporting deep techno and deep house grooves, and pitched-down beatdown style beats laden with classic downtempo sounds. As musical evolutions go, it's undeniably impressive.

Review: Since making his mark in the dub techno scene two decades ago, Fluxion has slowly shifted his sound to incorporate a wider range of interconnected influences and inspirations. So, while "Perspectives", his eighth album, has the hazy, half-light pulse of dub techno at its heart, the rhythms are a little bolder, the accompanying electronics more colourful, the melodies jazzier, and the variety of tracks a little wider. As a result, it's one of his most entertaining and mood-enhancing albums yet, with highlights including the rainbow of interconnected melodies and dub-flecked throb of "Formation", the warming late night shuffle of "Glimpses", the piano-sporting haziness of "Down The Line" and the jazzy ambient techno bliss of "Promise".

Review: The excellent Type Records continue their reissue programme with a much needed re-appraisal of Vibrant Forms, a collection of tracks from Greek producer Konstantinos Soublis, aka Fluxion, originally released back in 1999. Issued by the iconic Chain Reaction on CD, Vibrant Forms collated and expanded on two Fluxion 12"s released on the label and the collection helped to define the late 90s Dub Techno lexicon. Largely unavailable since then, Type have enlisted the supreme talents of award winner Mat Colton of Alchemy to work his re-mastering magic on all eight tracks to make them sound perfect for this reissue. Hazy and distant, there was still more than enough dancefloor push Vibrant Forms forward and ensure it's one of the very rare techno albums that works from beginning to end.

Review: Fluxion's Vibrant Forms series was launched by Basic Channel offshoot Chain Reaction at the tail end of the '90s, and gathered together previously vinyl-only cuts and previously unreleased tracks. On this third volume, the Greek producer has decided to take a different approach. In his words, this is a "proper album" rather than a compilation. It's typically atmospheric and immersive, offering up tracks that nestle somewhere between minimal techno hypnotism, smoker-friendly dub techno, and deliciously spaced out ambient dub. Rhythmically, it's a little more eclectic and mixed-up than we've come to expect, but his core values - use of space, tape delay and lo-fi aural textures - remain in tact throughout.

"Flowers Decay Quickly" is the producer's surprisingly speedy follow-up. It's another heady and intoxicating affair, with Khaliulin sashaying between the languid, head-in-the-clouds ambient of "Emanation", the gentle but hypnotic dub techno shapes of "Sleepless" and "Way Above", the sun-kissed laziness of "Night Walk" and the fantastically dubbed-out, slow motion soundscapes such as yearning closing cut "Light Of Truth Has Gone Out".

Review: Labour Division takes inspiration from industrial culture is evident in both its title - surely a contender for a great, missing Swans LP? - and on detached, fuzzy synth tracks like "Ident" and the menacing tones of "TTH", or the eerie textures and understated percussive hiss of the Regis-in-experimental-mode that is "Metal Image". But what is more interesting about this album is not its re-activation and presentation of existing narratives as they were, but its wholesale attempt to redefine their own vision for techno. It's a mightily ambitious objective and whether intentional or not, Walker and Matthews achieve this in places. "Mandate" is a relatively standard broken beat track, but is delivered with a rubbery bass and layers of grungy upbuilds, the sonic equivalent of a sack of soot and grime emptied over a glass table. Of more importance however is the fact that Labour Division proves that Forward Strategy Group don't preach sonic austerity because they have nothing else to say. "Nihil Novi" is a stripped back, crackling metallic groove combining the accessibility of Factory Floor with Ben Klock's rhythmic dexterity, "TTH" fuses the atmospheric textures that were audible on "Metal Image" with lithe back beats and "Cultivar", though set against a darker sonic backdrop, relies on similarly agile rhythms. At a time when all around them are marching to the death paced drums of Gothno, Labour Division sees FSG tease new ghosts and fresh horrors from their machines - as the eerie soundscapes and clinking chains on the supernatural "Fading Centres" so ably demonstrates.

Review: Given that Four Tet's recent 0181 LP was comprised of material from Kieran Hebden's archives, and last year's Pink was largely compiled of tracks from the previous 18 months of 12" releases, it seems fair to say that Beautiful Rewind is his first proper album since 2010's There Is Love In You, and as such, it arrives with some degree of expectation. The past few years have seen the producer engage increasingly with the dancefloor, and these rhythms are most definitely present across the LP, particularly in the jungle breaks of "Kool FM", pirate radio-influenced techno of "Buchla" and hesitant dubstep style rhythms of "Parallel Jalebi". For the most part however Beautiful Rewind is as varied as the likes of Rounds and There Is Love In You, with the minimalist kosmische of "Ba Teaches Yoga", analogue gurgles of "Crush" and dawn chorus sounds of closer "Your Body Feels" all as beautiful as his most enduring tracks.

Review: In recent years, David Sumner's music as Function has tended towards the dark, lo-fi, industrial and minimal. "Existenz", his first solo album in six years, is an altogether more melodious, thoughtful and ear-catching affair. Of course, there are still some suitably mangled, mind-altering club cuts on show - see the buzzing, shape-shifting heaviness of "Ertrinken", the spaced-out hypnotism of "Kurzstrecke" and the Berghain-ready "Vampire" - but these largely play second fiddle to more playful and tuneful expressions of electro, Detroit style techno, dreamy fusions of deep house and early UK style tech-house, and ambient cuts so lovely you'll want to bathe in them. He even makes room for a couple of vocal collaborations with Robert Owens. It all adds up to a stunning set that's undoubtedly one of the most instantly arresting techno albums of the year.

Thankfully Incubation proves it's been well worth the wait with the Sandwell District member really stretching his legs out for one of those techno albums that is most definitely an album experience. This nine track set bristles with great ideas and murky atmospherics, combining dystopian sci-fi soundtrack textures with the precision techno he's become known for. There are robust dancefloor tracks - see the murky acid techno of "Against The Wall" and sweaty "Modifier" - but also moments of intense, melodic beauty, from the crystalline bliss of "Counterpoint", to the dreamy hypnotism of "Inter (album version)".

Given the qualities' of both producers, it's perhaps unsurprising that Games Have Rules is rather good. Like any good collaboration, it tempers the more outlandish aspects of each producer's work, delivering a set bristling with icy textures, bittersweet ambience, dreamy atmospherics and, perhaps most pleasing of all, sprawling techno (see the brilliant "Bejewelled Body"). Rituals E7.001 is purportedly the first part in a trilogy, and it already highly prized by the devoted followers of Brian Dougans and Garry Cobain's music. It's not hard to hear why on listening to the gorgeous strains of 'Hopiate', which harks back to some of the duo's most iconic music (we'll let you guess which one we mean). FSOL have always had a particular touch in their exploration of electronica, ambient and outernational sounds, and it sounds rich with inspiration on this new, expansive album.
