Review: Farewell My Friend from Thes One is a tribute to the artist's late music partner Double K. As you'd expect, it is packed with real emotion and heart and layers up fresh beats with meaningful melodies across a superb selection of instrumentals. The track titles themselves tell the story of how the pair met and detail their journey as hip-hop outfit People under The Stairs. It's an album that is as good as any he has been involved with and is heartfelt throughout. Well worth checking for fans old or new.

Review: Memphis crew Three 6 Mafia are one of the most vital forces in Southern rap, still reigning supreme more than 30 years since they formed. Back in 2000 they helped define the sound orbiting the group and their label with the Hypnotise Camp Posse compilation, bringing in all their different collaborations and configurations and other MCs riding on beats from DJ Paul and Juicy J. Gangsta Boo especially shines on the likes of 'We Ain't Playin' while Lord Infamous tears it up on 'Don't Make Me Kill'. This is the real deal, from the razor-sharp beats to the deadly flows from the extended Three 6 family, now pressed up on a double 12" with an insert.

Review: More of a refinement than a total reinvention TOKiMONSTA's latest sees her subtly shifting her sound while retaining its essential character. While collaborations are present, they serve to highlight rather overshadow, her distinctive production style. This is a curated journey, moving fluidly between moments of quiet introspection and bursts of dancefloor energy. 'On Sum', the much-anticipated link-up with Anderson.Paak and Rae Khalil, is a clear standout. The established chemistry between TOKiMONSTA and.Paak is undeniable, their styles meshing seamlessly. Khalil's smooth vocals provide a captivating entry point, giving way to.Paak's effortless flow. It's a lesson in modern r&b, where soulful vocals meet TOKiMONSTA's signature rhythms and shimmering synths. This double LP isn't confined to 'On Sum', however. It explores a wider landscape. 'Corazon / Death By Disco Pt. 2' is pure kinetic energy, a samba-infused track built for sweaty dancefloors. But the album also makes space for quieter moments, with tracks like 'Eternal' and 'Reverie' offering a chance to breathe. It's here, in these more contemplative moments, that the intricacies of TOKiMONSTA's production truly come to the fore. This release is a statement, showcasingTOKiMONSTA's continued artistic growth, her ability to weave diverse influences into a cohesive and compelling whole. From the high-octane energy of 'Corazon/Death By Disco Pt. 2' to the understated beauty of 'On Sum', this is a journey worth taking.

While some tracks like 'Deep in the Water' lose their initial punch, and features like Kodak Black's on 'Brother Stone' are mixed, the production melds trap, rock and r&b in a compelling way. Overall, Hardstone Psycho demonstrates Toliver's potential and creativity, hinting at even more exciting developments in his future.

Review: In 1996, after 14 years in the game that started with him and Freddy B selling tapes out of the trunk of their car in East Oakland, Too $hort announced he would be retiring On May 21, 1996, he released his 10th studio album Gettin' It with the lead single of the same name featuring Parliament Funkadelic. Retirement was more of a hiatus as Too $hort got back in the game in 1999 with the appropriately named album Can't Stay Away. Though this album was initially intended to be his swan song, Too $hort returned in 1999 with Can't Stay Away. Gettin' It allowed him to go out on a high after earning his 6th Platinum record, but now they're back again and as well as having Parliament Funkadelic contribute to two songs, Ant Banks and Shorty B offer laid-back Bay Area funk along with some G-Funk contributions by Colin Wolfe, L.A. Dre, and Spearhead X. A real classic.
