Dear Mama (feat Anthony Hamilton - remix)
Resist The Temptation (feat Amel Larrieux)
Review: Originally released in 2007, this best of compilation returns on vinyl. This selection pulls from all corners of 2Pac's legendary catalogue, offering a powerful mix of iconic hits, deep cuts and rare material, including the long-awaited vinyl debut of 'Resist The Temptation.' Side-A opens with the cannon shot that was '2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted' and 'California Love (Original Mix)'. These are West Coast anthems that still hit with full force, while 'So Many Tears' digs deeper with introspective pain over a haunting groove. Side-B keeps the momentum with the smooth soul of 'How Do U Want It', the timeless 'I Ain't Mad At Cha' and the early urgency of 'Trapped'. These three tracks are great examples at his trajectory from budding hip-hop solider to a rapper with a purpose and message to an all-time icon. Side-C goes spiritual and anthemic with 'Changes' and 'Hail Mary' which reflect 2Pac's evolving worldview. On Side-D, the Anthony Hamilton-assisted remix of 'Dear Mama' adds new version to the collection while 'Resist The Temptation' closes things with conscience and power. An excellent selection that documents his growth and amazing output of a mere six years' recording.

Arrow Root (feat Mario Quest Blue) (3:16)
Tram Delay Beat (1:41)
Review: Berlin-based duo Above The Clouds, the new project of Kidkanevil and Magic Manfred, open their account with a reworked instrumental of MF DOOM's 'Arrow Root', nodding to their shared roots in 90s hip-hop. Having first crossed paths in a Kreuzberg studio, the two bonded over boom bap and basslines, leading to sessions where jazz chops met crisp drum programming. A longtime MF Doom fan, Kidkanevil brings his detailed, samply ill-formatic production style, honed over years split between beat tapes and bleeps, while Manfred - raised in Berlin and shaped by funk, soul and a stint in London's jazz scene - draws harmonic threads across keys and bass. The track also ropes in saxophonist Mario, who laid her parts in one studio take. B-sider 'Tram Delay Beat' hints at more to come.

They Don't Know (1:38)
Review: The second studio release from US rapper BigXthaPlug arrives as a tightly packed 31-minute set that channels Southern hip-hop muscle with a more reflective, matured perspective. Built around themes of perseverance, self-reliance and generational care, the album mixes gospel and 80s r&b samples with booming low-end production, keeping one foot in the club and the other in the confessional. The title track sets the tone with soulful vocals looped under direct verses, while 'Change Me' and 'Therapy Session' lean into emotional candour without softening the delivery. Tracks like 'The Largest' and 'Rich off Rap' go hard on bravado with a wink toward restraint, and 'Story of X' uses spoken word from Wallo267 to ground the narrative in lived experience. 'Back on My BS' and 'Mmhmm', both holdovers from a previous EP, still hit sharp here, and the deluxe edition adds range with 'Holy Ground' (with Jessie Murph) and the woozy, melodic 'Comes & Goes' featuring Tommy Newport. It's a release that doesn't chase complexity but finds strength in economy i punchy, heavy, and assured in its message. BigXthaPlug sounds more focused than ever, and the results speak loudest when he keeps it concise.

Review: Bloto formed serendipitously in 2018 when members of the Wroclaw-based EABS sextet, along with sound engineer Maciek Jakimiuk, spontaneously recorded their debut at a Gdansk-area studio. That impromptu session birthed the band's self-titled debut and was followed by the albums Kwiatostan and Kwasy i zasady, each exploring organic improvisation and themes like relationships and societal erosion. In 2023, they released Grzybnia, a concept album celebrating collective cooperation as resistance. It quickly sold out on Astigmatic Records, earned a Fryderyk nomination, and won acclaim for the track 'Godzina W'. This follow-up continues its good work with sophisticated broken beat and jazz fusions that operate somewhere in between distant cosmic worlds.

Review: Boldy James teams up with Montreal-based producer Your Boy Posca on Magnolia Leflore, a five-track EP issued via Near Mint. It's James' whopping seventh release for 2025, and among the leanest from the former Griselda member and Atlanta attention-grabber. Over Posca's dusted, slow-rolling loops, James revisits the same survivalist storytelling that's made him a cult figure in post-boom bap hip-hop; Lead single 'Nancy Botwin' notably dropped one week ahead, and for good reason, setting a severe tone with its ominous, measured pace. And true to neck-protecting hustle culture, the only guest comes by way of one Mike Shabb, who adds a lippy loquacity to 'Clorox'.

Review: Apollo Brown & CRIMEAPPLE's underground gem This, Is Not That returns with the Dirty Money Edition - pressed on cream and green vinyl but still with the same style and street grit. This updated version adds two new bonus tracks, which only heighten its raw power. Apollo Brown's soulful, classic boom-bap production perfectly complements CRIMEAPPLE's razor-sharp lyricism and bilingual bite across these cuts and makes for a project that's both reflective and hard-hitting, so it gets you twofold. A gritty yet opulent love letter to uncompromising hip-hop, whether you missed it the first time or are doubling down, this is one of those must-cop reissues.

Review: Retro-Respect's DJ-AL is a fluent speaker of hip-hop edits phonetics, having put out over 16 7"s for his so named label since 2019. 2025 has so far seen 'MVP' and 'Make Me Wanna Holler', the latter of which you hear here: The Supremes' 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' gets a big breaks beat furtherance with horn-laden cliffhanger moods, while the Motown trio's 'This Is Why I Believe In You' is rerubbed to equally squeaky-clean sheen on the A.

Review: The Supremes' 'This Is Why I Believe In You' is the centrepiece of this new 7" redo by DJ A-L, high retainee of the Retro Respect label, based in an unknown US locale. "I'm a believer" goes the lyrical lit-urgency of the original track, redone as 'Make Me Wanna Holler', as the historic Motown vocal soul trio remark on their joint lover's mindblowing skills beneath the sheets. "Feeling more than I can dream / Is it really me?" Curiously, another version of the record has also surfaced, with the A and B sides flipped.

Review: EARTHGANG is the Atlanta-born rap duo of Olu and WowGr8 and they have been adding to hip-hop's sound since 2008 with a blurring of r&b, jazz, gospel and funk. Formed back in high school, their music reflects the vibrancy of their Southwest Atlanta upbringing and soon after signing to J. Cole's Dreamville Records in 2017, they gained wider acclaim with Mirrorland debuting at #40 on the Billboard 200. Perfect Fantasy from late last year is another doozy of a long player with some A-grade gists such as Damon Albarn, Pharrell, Little Dragon and even Snoop Dogg. It's the right mix of familiar beats and experimentation while reflecting on the effects of AI on society.

First up is "Hollywood Squabble" which marries West Coast flows with a classic funk instrumental for a red-hot party-starter. On the reverse, a rap's reigning it girl goes a mile a minute on "Coolie Dancin' In A Nissan Altima", which rides a bright, bold dancehall rhythm. Two very different but equally effective jams.

Review: Creamy r&b, hip-hop and soul jams will always get any party going and when they are as classic as this one that is never more true. It's a harking back to the golden age of the mid-90s with singable vocals, crunchy mid-tempo beats and warming chords that all ooze good time vibes. As well as this sure-fire crowd pleaser on the A-side from Infamous Classics, you get a more pared-back instrumental on the flip for a more subtle nostalgic trip. Once this makes its way into your bag, it's never going to leave because it's one of those tunes that you will always be able to reach for in an emergency.

J Diggns - "Saturday Salsa" (3:44)
King Most - "Balla Edit" (2:59)
Review: Oakland-based selector King Most joins forces with Brooklyn's J. Diggns on this fiery two-tracker built for rhythm-led selectors. On the A-side, 'Saturday Salsa' hits with hot brass and churning Latin percussion, all held together by a deep-pocket groove and a sense of pure uplift-ideal for roller jams, day parties, or golden-hour sets. The De La Brilla vocal tag (meaning "of the glow") seals its place as a feel-good weapon. Flip to the B for King Most's 'Balla Edit', an inspired fusion of Afro-Latin heritage and modern bump. The swing of highlife, the snap of clave, and a gritty low-end come together with unmistakable analog warmth. You can feel the legacy of Radio Havana and West African soundsystem culture filtered through a present-day dancefloor lens. Both sides are party-minded and globally aware-press loud, cue up early, and let the groove speak.

Review: Australian rapper The Kid Laroi rose to fame in the late 2010s and early 20s after garnering significant attention on SoundCloud, mostly for a keystone collaboration with the late Juice WRLD. Capturing the spirit of the time through relevant emo revivals filtered through hip-hop and pop production of the brittlest degree, Laroi would later rub shoulders with Justin Bieber and Marshmello, furthering an industrially complex rapprochement with the culturally famished generation that is Gen Z. The First Time was the debut record that followed, mounting such quick movements onto a single disc: heartbreak, mental health, identity retention and the inebriate deliriums of youth were all explored. Now the artist follows up with an expanded edition and Deluxe Version, which comes newly backed by the all-capsing 'YOU NEVER FORGET YOUR FIRST TIME', hearing singer Elisha Herbert sing ruefully of her eagerest yet most disappointing young liaison.

Review: Amsterdam's Kid Sublime switches gears with Liefde Is..., a Dutch-language hip-hop album rooted in the emotional fallout of his recent divorce. Bruntishly written and produced in the thick of it, the record moves through tangled phases of love, from lust to loss, then fatherhood and self-reflection, adapting the thread with crisp, soul-drenched beats and a mix of rapped verses and word painted, sung hooks. Known for his jazz-informed house and boom-bap productions, Sublime brings that same sonic finesse here, but trades English bars for raw, witty Dutch lyricism. While the subject matter is personal, the tone avoids melodrama, leaning into groove and warmth. It's a curveball in both his own catalogue and the broader Dutch hip-hop landscape, and all the stronger for it.

Review: The legendary 'Rhythm of Life' by American soul star James Mason returns with a series of remixes on this vinyl-only EP. Fresh interpretations come from DJ Mitsu the Beats, Dego and Yukari BB who all do their thing to cuts from sometime Roy Ayers Ubiquity man Mason's 1977 solo album. Dego's jazzy remix of 'Free' and Yukari BB's synth-heavy take on 'Good Thing' are standouts and DJ Mitsu the Beats adds percussive warmth to both 'Free' and 'Mbewe' by infusing the originals with mellow funk and hip-hop grooves. This one packs a super hot jazz-funk punch for the more open-minded dancefloors

Review: Majestic, literally lowercase jazz minimalism from Kenichiro Nishihara, first released on Japan's Unprivate label in 2015. Nishihara's first album for the label, and his 11th overall, marked a thorough purgation in sound and focus on what we might call "sonic landscape painting", after 2013's Sound Remedy heard the last of his many studious still lives for FIL Music. With precise beat programming and excellent instrumental playing to compare, Nishihara added contributing drummer Mabanua, Ovall on vocal duties, and Cise Starr, while Substantial (a staple of Nishihara's projects), SLik d (known for his work on 'Colors') and Ashley Eriksson (from LAKE) also lent their appended talents. Additionally, Finnish jazz ensemble Five Corners Quintet's trumpet and flugelhorn player, Jukka Eskola, graced the album, adding a further dash to a long, eventidal electronica jazz rove.

Review: Heads roll, as Lee 'Scratch' Perry's final known recording is revealed to the world, proving fraudulent any would-be counterclaimants to the title. Australian beatmaker Inkswel was the lucky artist to finally hook up with the late Upsetter: originally featured on his 2022 album Chasing Infinity (Cosmocities), the track blends a twisted, beat-boogie-influenced dub vibe with Perry's signature woozy wails. Now fellow progressive house producers James Curd and Sofatalk bring their unique takes across three remixes on fresh 12" vinyl, extending the original mix astride a never-before-heard demo, leaving the door ajar for fans to peek in to the song's making.

Review: US rapper Playboi Carti goes full rap game meta-modernity on I Am Music, perhaps trumping even Kanye West in utter God complexity via his own trodden path of effulgent emo rap heavenliness. An aggrandised four sides of black wax are contained in this hefty double sleeve replete with kingly block serif lettering, whilst the limits of such everlasting rap paradoxes as peak-career megalomania, contrasted to a core of vulnerability, are explored with glee. "Cutthroat angelics" are the production motif - they're laid down by future sonic denizens Pi'erre Bourne, Lancey Foux and Tony Seltzer - as slimy slurs of pitch corrected voice abound in a soup of strange, seraphic trap slippage.

Review: Originally released in 2022, this is the rarest of beasts - a concept album told from the perspective of a ghost. Blending indie folk, ambient, hip-hop and experimental rock into a powerful reflection on regret, loneliness and the lingering weight of the past, the American rapper's fifth album at the time sees tracks like 'Born Yesterday' and 'Tell Me A Joke' exemplifying a dynamic approach and layered production. 'House Settling' features a brilliant guest verse from Danny Brown that jolts the album midstream, while the Sunday Service Choir and Thor Harris lend ethereal touches to 'Fractions Of Infinity' and 'Cassini's Division', respectively. Despite its genre shifts, the album remains successfully tight, with Quadeca's production skills and haunting - aptly enough - lyricism tying everything together.

Rocket Science (main version) (3:36)
Rocket Science (instrumental version) (3:36)
Review: Bronx MC Rob-O returns with his first official solo release, more than two decades after his work with 90s underground crew INI. 'Rocket Science' is a tight, mid-tempo track produced by Paris-based Lex (de Kalhex), who also handled their 2012 collaboration. The beat is minimal but deliberate i a dusty loop with light keys and clean drums that hold space without distraction. Rob-O's vocal version plays it straight: a dense verse structure, clipped delivery and clear nods to Rakim-era cadences. The instrumental on the flip mirrors the vocal arrangement exactly, offering DJs and heads a clean alternate take. Nothing here feels overplayed. The mix by Parental is crisp, with the mastering by K-Def preserving warmth without softening the edges. This is a concise reintroduction to a voice with deep roots in New York's underground lineage.

Review: Long-time US hip-hop veteran Erick Sermon dropped probably his most classic joint back in the 2000s. The red hot and summer-ready 'React' now drops on 7" vinyl and it's a raw cut with Indian melodies, filtered Bollywood-style vocals and a hard-hitting low end that lit up dancefloors worldwide back then and will do the same again now. It is backed with 'I'm Good,' a groove-heavy flip beloved in b-boy circles for its infectious rhythm and break-ready beat. Both tracks feature tasteful DNA re-edits so offer extended intros and outros to keep DJs in the mix.
