The Cool-Notes - "Natural Energy" (5:07)
Ilija Rudman - "Dub 4 Love" (Secret Weapon mix) (5:59)
Review: This third volume of instrumentals continues the faultless Isle of Jura label's deep dive into dub versions and beyond. Side one takes in references from UK street soul and reggae and features two late-'80s tracks by Howard Hill with machine-led rhythms, rudeboy reggae skank and soulful pads. Protek's 'I Love to Dance With You' is a proto-house gem featured in a Jura Soundsystem mix and here it gets a loving re-edit by The Nightlark. Side B includes an instrumental-driven track with spacey FX from The Cool Notes' and Ilija Rudman's 'Dub 4 Love' which is a knowing nod to acid house's golden era.

Swimming With Turtle (4:48)
Swimming With Dolphins (4:08)
Review: Periodica International marks a brilliant debut here with a collaborative EP that pairs Daniel Monaco with MC Matsui. Between them the duo cook up some nicely esoteric, tropical and exotic ocean-side Balearic disco grooves. Playful and funky, filled with library references, neat bass riffs and hook vocals. 'Swimming With Turtles' is a spaced out disco groove that takes you to the Mediterranean coast on a fusion of elector and hip hop beats. 'Swimming With Dolphins' is ever more upbeat and funky and sure to be a big hit with all manner of Balearic DJs. A vital 7" for sure.

Twilight (Coastlines remix) (4:23)
Review: Twilight is the latest piece by long time DJ, producer and remixer, Dominic Dawson. The Japanese label Flower, has released this single to 7" complete with a remix for the second side. The title track is a catchy and funky house track that while the remix is a bit more Balearic and beachy. Both versions have their place in any house setlist and will set the tone for any eclectic DJ set. With the DJing background Dominic has, he is a great guide to setting the mood with music. Like the title artwork suggests, this is perfect music to watch the sun go down to.

Clap Song (Monchan edit) (6:24)
Review: After some releases on stillove4music and Razor N tape, Brooklyn's Toshihiro Moriguchi aka Monchan is back (with DRUG) on his own DS Records imprint to bring you East Village Edits 7 - packed with four major dancefloor bombs. There's the low slung and spiritual guitar virtuoso action of 'Slinky Band' (DRUG edit), followed by a nifty edit of a certain English new wave pop classic on 'Faith Hope & Dub' (DRUG edit). On the flip, there's an underground goodie you're sure to know of by a certain legend (hint: a well-known Latin soul musician from New York) on the infectious 'Clap Song' (Monchan edit).

Lance - "Yo Quiero A Lucy" (edit) (4:53)
Marta Paradise - "Calling" (edit) (4:23)
Alan Strani - "Tension Salsable" (edit) (4:58)
Review: Maledetta Discoteca closes out its year with this special blue vinyl featuring a mix of brilliant Italo disco artists. They all hail from Italy and Argentina and are editing originals that span disco, electro, proto-house and more. Hararis' 'Si No Pagan' is the first under the scalpel and is a funky cut with raw drums. Lance's 'Yo Quiero A Lucy' is a more slowed down and seductive sound with 80s synths, Marta Paradise's 'Calling' (edit) is a direct and sugar synth laced house stomper and Alan Strani's 'Tension Salsable' brings things to a closer with a nice stomping disco grove with mysterious synths and lush percussion.

Review: Bars on the French Riviera, beaches in Cannes, hot sunny weather, mesmerising deep-blue seas and lovely leafy palm trees all come to mind once you drouth need on this latest 12" slice heat from Favourite France. Magic Source do a great job of musical transportation here particularly with 'Genius of Love' which is a riff on the Tam Tam girls classic. The tropical island beats and funky bass riffs all douse you in good vibes while a lead flute takes your mind up, up and away into a cloudless sky. 'Riviera Drive' is slight more dance effort ready with its rump-wiggling trumpets, exotic synths and Balearic disco vibes.

Review: To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Archeo Recordings breaks tradition with the release of a new series of exquisite EPs honoring past masters. This collection features reimagined tracks from the label's cherished catalog, showcasing the talents of contemporary artists. Among these, Pepe Maina's 'The Infinite', enhanced by Manu's tribal percussion and electronics, transforms a classic into a celestial slow dance. Roberto Aglieri's 'Danza N. 1' receives a vibrant reinterpretation from Daniele Tomassini, merging proto-techno rhythms with psychedelic flute melodies, perfect for day raves and moonlit gatherings. The EP also revisits Radio Band's Italo-boogie classic 'Radio Rap', given a contemporary twist by the enigmatic Radiomarc. Finally, Mushrooms Project breathes new life into Futuro Antico's 'Pan Tuning', creating a transcendent dance journey that blends ancient sounds with modern beats. This collection not only honors the label's history but also promises exciting future endeavors, making it a great time to reflect on the past.

Review: Manuel Darquart is the London-based New Zealander who has impressed with outings on the likes of Wolf Music Recordings, Infinite Pleasure and Seb Wildblood's Coastal Haze. This time out he serve sup big Italo house tunes for the cult white label Semi Delicious. This is music with proud synth work and nice rough-around-the-edges drums, plenty of fills, retro 80s samples and a subtle nostalgia that makes them all there potent. 'For You' is one of our favourites for its perfectly blissful post-rave ambiance over deep drums, but 'In The Club At 5 am' also perfectly lives up to its name.

Review: Summer sounds couldn't soothe more.... Above Machine unite some of their most creative slo-mo vibe maestros for an ultimately sedate, sexy, sun-kissed set. Highlights include Jonny Nash's take on "Summer Wind"; a stark, piano and vocal led moment of solitude that whisks you off to faraway lands by way of expertly placed instruments, and Slo's subversion of "Another Day"; a misty early August morning that trembles with delicate guitars and yearning vocals that aren't dissimilar to Yannis Philippakis. Dig deep.

Review: The Vinyl Only label rolls on towards its 20th release here with Mar De Novo serving up the irresistible Apericena EP. 'Quantity Check' is a low-slung funker with noodling baselines and nice loose percussive rhythms under some exotic vocals. 'Blue Eyes Clear' is a more lavish and downtempo number of chilling by the Med come sundown and then comes Ryu's Rub of 'Quantity Check' which is more funky and fat-bottomed. Ethimm - "Emotional Men" (3:49)

Review: Music producers do tend to be rare breeds, so it's not a surprise to hear of a label series exploring the theme. 'Uncommon Species II' is the second installment of the series from the Swiss label Phantom Island, bringing together various artists for five curios centring on oddball future disco, nu-disco, and re-edits. Highlights include the dream-pop-Balearic Kejeblos Remix of Moreeats' 'Forever Fun' - in which a rogue male vocal seductively implores us to light his fire - and CCO's 'Cyanea' - a standout acid disco number. Frankly, though, all the tracks here are unusual bangers, packed with extra additions that only a rare breed of artist could add.

Marcella Bella's 'Nell'Aria' is an evergreen slice of Italian disco, originally recorded and released in 1985. On this POPART release, the swooning romanticism and crisp production of the original version sounds better than ever as the high profile Italian diva Bella soars over a full-fat arrangement loaded with bombast. Keeping things interesting, we're also treated to a 2017 update 'Aria Latina' which injects some Latin energy into the classic. Meanwhile, the B-side is given over to an extended edit of the original by Francesco Cicchini, who takes the track to the stratosphere with a tasteful treatment

It pairs her own sensuality with evocative disco arrangements and plenty of big tunes like the title track but also the shimmering 80s synths and sentimental vocals of 'La Battaglia'. This new label pays tribute to it with four extended versions of tunes by Belgian originators that have never before been out on vinyl. Winning Streak (3:20)
Roadrunners (4:30)
Review: Curiously, 'The Winning Streak' has nothing to do with Miami Vice the TV series - in fact, the artist was an alias of library music legend Alan Hawkshaw and the track was a piece he composed in the early 1980s that ended up being used as the theme for a long-forgotten UK drama about 'family business intrigue'. The track, presented on this Miss You reissue in extended and original forms, is however a far-sighted treat - a combination of Harold Flatermeyer style synthsesiser excellence, delay-laden drums, Martin Rushent-esque percussion, trippy melodic motifs and just the right amount of sonic intrigue. A slept-on delight for sure. To round off an excellent EP, we also get original bonus cut 'Roadrunner', a synth-heavy instrumental which was used as incidental music in the TV series.

Review: Anders Midtgaard is one of the leading proponents of the Balearic vibe in Denmark, alongside the likes of Kenneth Bager and Mike Salta. He inaugurates the Fantastic label with this beautiful summer groover, leading in with a plush remix from Italian maestro Luca Moplen. It's a feistier affair than Midtgaard's ever-so-slightly hazy original version, but both retain the core chord sequence that makes this such a heart-rending beauty of a track. The B side opens up with said original mix before Salta is then drafted in for a remix that leaves the disco locomotion behind for a breezier samba groove over which to play some delightfully warbling keys.

Review: In the early '80s, Micky Milan made a string of rather good - and often eccentric - disco records, including a debut single on Salsoul, 1982's 'Quand Tu Danses'. That track - a Clavinet and Rhodes-laden hybrid disco/boogie jam - naturally appears on this surprise EP of classics and unreleased cuts, in an extended, never-heard-before full length instrumental mix form. There's plenty more to set the pulse racing across the EP, including the head-nodding, toe-tapping hip-hop-meets-disco-funk jam 'Paris Amour', the celebrated vocal version of 'Quand Tu Danses' and a fine 'MM Instrumental Edit' of mid-80s synthesiser jam 'Champion', where sun-splashed keyboard solos and squelchy synth bass catch the ear.

Love Is A Natural Magical Thing (Skyrager edit)
Review: Although best-known for her work as part of legendary freestyle outfit Expose, Laurie Miller released a handful of now sought-after solo singles in the mid 1980s. 'Love is a Natural Magical Thing', which originally slipped out in 1986 on a tiny, Miami-based label, is the most celebrated of these. It's undeniably brilliant - a sweet, bubbly, classy and addictive fusion of club-focused freestyle and radio-friendly synth-pop, with Miller's breathy lead vocal catching the ear even more than the track's killer bassline and chiming lead lines. On this edition, the original 12" mix comes backed with the Latin Rascals style dub mix (a genuine killer for those who love drum edits and copious amounts of delay) and a classy, stretched-out contemporary re-edit courtesy of Skyrager.

Review: 'That Thing' by That Thing is a real cosmic classic from 1977. It is hella rare these days and was a one-off synth pop project by Dutch musician Geertjan Lacunes. The tune was a real favourite for the Italo legend that is Daniele Baldelli thanks to its wonky bass. Now it gets a special cover version by Mind Fair that finds it all beefed up. Twitchy synths, Italo keys and fuzzy guitars all make it as standout now as ever. Fabrizio Mammerella delivers a remix that's all shiny dub cosmicness, while Eric Duncan slows things down to a subtle crawler with plenty of great acid flashes.

A collaboration born behind the Piccadilly Records counter, Miserymix is the dark disco alias of Goth Spice and Mushy P. Together, these four contemporary tittilators, from 'Sexy Cowboys' to 'Name Game', chart the lighter ends of dark disco, keeping things hi-NRGied yet light-footed. By the time we reach 'Proverbial SOB', distant sampledelic vocals seem to call out in the night, as huge transitional lasershots, double-claps, and impossible-to-play bass licks abound. Things take a steadier turn come 'E Motion', a clever track of velvety undertones, glitzing synth stabs and a steamy narration in French.

Mo Disko goes first on the relatively dark and late-night driving disco tune that is 'We Just' with its crunchy drums and stiff arps. A-side "US Lover" is simply superb: a blue-eyed, turn-of-the-80s AOR disco gem laden with heady horns, squelchy synth bass, swirling strings and heady harmonica solos. The Balearic disco fun continues on the flip, where the bleep-laden bluesy disco number "Hysteric Glamour" comes accompanied by the sunny, synth-laden instrumental disco oddity that is "Marabou". Deep cuts, subtly tweaked for extended dancefloor pressure: what more could any disco lover desire?

Morning Shunt (6:38)
Jacques Theme (6:53)
The Bandit (5:40)
Review: Not all re-edit series' are created equal. The Moton Records Inc, series - one of the longest running in the world, these days - has consistently delivered high-grade re-rubs free of tame studio trickery. Predictably, there's more brilliance to be found throughout the hush-hush label's latest three-track missive, which is the work of London scene stalwart Dave Jarvis and fellow Love Vinyl shop-worker Jake Holloway. A-side "Morning Shunt", a brilliant rearrangement of a little-known Afro-disco cut that comes on like Fela Kuti covering "Don't Leave Me This Way", is the clear standout, though B-side jams "Jacques Theme" - a sort of William Onyeabor goes to Cuba throw-down - and "The Bandit" (Balearic brilliance with funk style drum breaks) are also excellent.

Eighty Three (Uppity Again dub) (5:35)
Review: Conrad McDonnell delivers four new Balearic-club cloggers for the Mudd imprint, Muddying the waters with a counter-intuitively serene, crystalline multi-mix refractor, 'Eighty Three'. McDonnell is famous for his wild and effects-laden dub mixes, both as a solo remixer and alongside long-time musical partner Dan Tyler as the Idjut Boys. Building on this impressive career focus, he's back with yet another case of signature wildout FX, which in this case subtly build from a mood of acidic, low-stakes mystique, before upping the antics with the various versions on offer, these being the 'Uppity Dub', the 'Uppity Dub Again', and a signatory 'Conrad McDonnell Dub'. The 'Again' version is especial, oscillating between a strident Balearic pump and an unpredictable set of swelling, eructing, fall-broken, beatless moments.

Spielplatz (Quiet Village instrumental mix) (13:58)
Spielplatz (Quiet Village Deep Space dub) (13:44)
Review: Matt Edwards and Joel Martin have done many fantastic remixes as Quiet Village, but little tops their 2007 'deep space' version of Mudd's 'Spielplatz'. Originally released on a relatively limited 12" by U.S label Rong Music, it reimagined the track as an epic slow-motion chugger that combined cosmic, spaced-out, turn-of-the-90s deep house synth sounds and metronomic dub disco bass with locked-in beats, echo-laden (sampled) spoken word vocals and all manner of intergalactic effects. This essential (and once again highly limited) reissue boasts the duo's famous - and deliciously epic - original 'Deep Space Dub' on side B, with the pair's vocal free (and previously unreleased) 'instrumental mix' on side A. A super-slow, ultra-deep house classic!

In The Garden Of Mindfulness (4:50)
Katanaboy (4:40)
Review: Although he's served up regular collaborative singles and albums (not only alongside his good friend Benjamin J Smith, but also as part of Hillside and Paqua), Claremont 56 founder Paul 'Mudd' Murphy has not released a solo record since the late 2000s. The good news is that the Balearic scene stalwart has a new solo album on the way, hence this two-track sampler. A-side 'In The Garden of Mindfulness' (the title track of the forthcoming LP) shuffles along at a deliciously low tempo, with woozy lead lines, subtle Clavinet licks, sun-soaked jazz guitars and cascading synthesiser motifs reclining over head-nodding beats and the squelchiest of synth basslines. Flip-side 'Katanaboy',meanwhile, is a gentle nudge towards sun-down dancefloors pushed forwards by metronomic Balearic disco beats and rubbery jazz-funk bass.

Review: Mukatsuku goes all Balearic with this limited hand-numbered 180 gram 12 inch with a collaboration with Leng.First up is the sultry, melodic & life affirming jazzy keys glory which is ''Susta'' taken from the 10 Years compilation from 2020 now given a whole side of vinyl for itself. On the flipside Payfone is in fine form on "Last Night in Sant Celoni" is where Phil Passera offers up a warm and humid chunk of soft-touch dancefloor bliss underpinned by a combination of vintage analogue drum machine, 1980s style slap bass, rich electric piano motifs, and casually brilliant jazz guitar flourishes provided by regular Payfone guitarist Royce Wood Junior. First time this instrumental version has been available on wax.As played by Ashley Beedle,Faze Action, Chari Chari, Calm, Smoove,Red Greg, Crazy P,Charlie Dark etc...

Review: Someone put the mute on the info button here because nothing is known about the source or editor at all here. But the music's more than strong enough to do the talking. Balearic soul and international disco through and through, track one rattles with a little Afrofunk energy, track two has more of a Latin sunset feel while the final track is a swooning, mooning sweep into crazy town with some strong psychedelic textures. Spacy, singular and special: You won't want to mute these for a long time.

Review: Breakout Balearic beat maker My Friend Dario continues to bring a whole new world of influences to the genre with this expansive new EP on Nunorthern Soul. It follows some fine self-related work as well as EPs on Hell Yeah and packs in plenty of the sun you is often baked in back home in the Sicilian coastal city of Catania. It is there that he can gaze out on the azure blue Ionian Sea and there that he tajes us with these dreamy horizontal grooves, gently rhythms, wispy melodies and far off cosmic pads all enrich the mellow drums.

Review: There is no backstory or online info to support this one and given the sample heavy edits pressed up to this self-released heavyweight white 12" that is no surprise. Each of the four cuts is a devastating dance floor dazzler with iconic chords and big disco grooves a plenty. The 20 - yes, teeny - minute opener is a cosmic exploration, then comes gritty wave on track two, some silky deep and jazzy sounds on three with an aching vocal and the last cut rolls on a retro-future disco wave.

Why (dub) (8:08)
Review: The Mysterious MYOKEN crew is back with their fourth release in the popular series and as always, they're bringing their signature style to the table. This time, they've taken two massive pop and dance anthems and reworked them into atmospheric, proggy-tinged versions that'll have you locked in from the first beat. On the A-side, 'Erase' sets the tone with its spacious, groove-heavy energy, and the 'Erase Dub' brings out the deep, layered textures, making it perfect for late-night dancefloors. On the flip, 'Why' pushes the vibe further with its driving bass and captivating rhythm, before the 'Why Dub' takes things into a more experimental realm, adding even more dubby space and hypnotic elements.
