Review: In little more than a year, the Tusk Wax operation has successfully developed into a three pronged attack on the affections of the vinyl buying public (an amusingly branded Porn Wax offshoot has just been established) This success is no doubt in part due to a dedication to limited vinyl only releases and the somewhat mysterious nature of the Tusk Wax origin, but primarily it's down to the standards of artists involved. Bicep, Ejeca, Chamboche and Lord of The Isles are among the previous contributors and this third Tusk Wax release ensures the standards are maintained. Weatherall affiliate Scott Fraser mans the A Side with "Space And Tapes" is a typical production, with the Glaswegian expertly teases out huge waves of thick cosmic synth hypnosis over some nine minutes. Complementing this, Deep Space Orchestra's Si Murray continues his new solo project Other Worlds on the flip, with the 10 minute "Dystope" a delightfully dust laden beat down house that has a nice Parrish hue to it. As per usual this limited run of 300 will sell quick smart.

Review: Benedikt Frey heads this latest offering from the Batti Batti label, teaming up with jonas.san for "Girl From Venus", which pair the former's signature raw drums with the latter's outtakes of muted trumpet. Complementing this, Batti Batti's own Owen Jay & Melchior Sultana lay down a typically deep atmospheric houser with a few twists and hidden melodies in the shape of title track "Tribal Roots" and the 12" is further embellished by productions from debutant Lars Behrenroth and Mexican duo Romeo C & Alhan G who have previously been featured on a digital Batti Batti release.

Review: Patrick Gibin has signed some terrific records to his Mother Tongue label, so it's no surprise to discover that the Italian imprint's first "45" is a bona fide stunner. It sees sometime Gustosa producer Gary Superfly join forces with Other Lands (AKA Gavin Sunderland, previously best known for his work as Fudge Fingaz) to offer up the kind of sumptuously warm, languid, loose, toasty and organic fare that can't quite decide whether it wants to be jazz-funk, modern boogie or especially hazy deep house. A-side "Endless" is particularly potent, with waves of kaleidoscopic synth sounds and twinkling Rhodes solos relaxing over a chunky bassline and head-nodding drums, though toastier and hazier flipside "Purple" is almost as good.

Review: There's an embarrassment of contemporary house riches to be enjoyed on the second edition of Music Is Love's Lovebox series, with a sizable contingency from the UK stable of deep house troopers. There's soothing funky tones from Mr KS, nifty broken beat delights from Cassio Kohl and Tuccillo, and rough-shod party-starters from U Know The Drill and Jackson Ryland. The diversity across the four sides is pleasing to see, and there's no shortage of fresh ideas from the likes of Liam Geddes with his distinct shuffle on "Untitled" to Oli Furness' off-centre approach to rave tropes in house music.

Review: Innate is a new Bristol label born from the blog of the same name. This first release features a spread of talent both established and emergent, all bound together by a love of illustrious machine soul. Gilbert leads in with the sumptuous tones of "Birds Of Paradise" before Mark Hand takes control with the uptempo cascade of "Lessons." The vintage techno vibes continue apace on the B side as Lerosa lays out one of his gorgeous square wave bass lines amidst some snagging drums and quivering synth flourishes, and then label boss Owain K finishes the picture with the laid back musings of "Pixeled Scenery."

Review: The small but already well-formed Innate label offers up a superb split EP for its sixth outing. Gilbert opens up with 'Low Flying Objects', a widescreen and serene bit of synth-laden tendon with more than a hint of Motor City soul over the dusty drums. 'Unknown Entities' is a brain-cleansing and celestial electro-styled cut with dreamy pads and cinematic deepness. Bristol-born, Welsh-rooted Owain K then steps up to the flip with equally painterly sounds. 'Corona Borealis' pairs deep and rubbery bass with crisp electro drum patterns and far-sighted chords. 'New Horizon' then closes out with some delightfully dozy deep house that's laden with wispy chords and undulating bass.

Review: Following up last year's production with Baltimore techno legend Maurice Fulton on 'Jigoo', the next release on Gudu is the first of two songs by label boss Peggy Gou that she will release over the coming months. Her first single in over two years, it translates to 'Butterfly' and is another collaboration. This time with fellow Korean sensation OHHYUK who is the lead singer and guitarist in the band Hyukoh. 'Nabi' is a downtempo, pop-inflected number said to be inspired by '80s synth classics and '90s Korean songs that Gou's mother used to play at home during her childhood.

Review: Mark Knight's epic Toolroom label returns with a four-track sampler featuring plenty more big-room house excursions. First up, the boss himself offers up an extended mix of Groove Armada's legendary 'Get Down' which is full of rave stabs and big vocals. Illyus & Barrientos offer the synth laced and peak time sounds of 'When You Gonna' and David Penn & Offiah combine for the supersized piano house rollercoaster that is 'Satisfied' complete with big hooky vocals. Last of all comes Ben Remember's 'Waiting 4 You' (extended mix) which ducks and dices with some smart filters, chopped-up vocal stabs and raw percussive house energy.

Review: Constant Sound continues to press ahead as one of the most productive entities in the minimal scene, and they're sounding as on-point as ever with this collaborative EP from Per Hammar and Okain. These two stripped back tech house champs bounce off each other perfectly, creating the kind of limber workouts that will sink under the skin of the after hours crowd with ease. Look out for B2 track "Double Brew", which folds some gorgeous dub techno inflections into the mix with stunning results.

Funky/Club House
Review: Second time around for Harlem Hustlers' surging disco-house anthem, which first appeared in stores way back in 2005. This time round, the Italian duo have reworked it considerably, placing underground boogie legend Orlando Johnson's lead vocal front and centre while opting for some more organic-sounding instrumentation (the original was more sample-heavy). On their '2023 Rework' they channel the sound of Groove Culture label bosses Mickey More and Andy Tee, wrapping Johnson's vocal, tidy horns, flanged guitars and classic-sounding piano riffs around a warming bass guitar part and crunchy house drums. It's a very classy and far more authentically 'disco'-sounding track than their 2005 original. Their flip-side 'Get On The Floor' mix, meanwhile, has a smoother, more synth-heavy disco-house sound, less vocal and even more of the excellent horn sounds.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Gravity Graffiti has been doing great things with its series of split 12"s already, but now the Italian label goes one better for its tenth release with this mighty double pack of heavy hitters. First up is the ever-untouchable Yoshinori Hayashi, who gets as straight up as he possibly could with the freaky house burner "Dissociative." Telephones is feeling particularly dubbed out and groovy on "Kalimbalimbo", while DB.Source and Riccardo Schiro take things strung out and textural on "Montevago". Dynamo Dreesen is in rave mode for the pepped up and delightfully weird "Reactivate", leaving the final side to Oyvind Morken & Kaman Leung's chugging "Tunnel Visjon" and the rubbery side swipes of Acidboychair's "The End (At Any Speed)".

Review: The warm sway of analogue synth jams abound on the latest Blind Jacks Journey release, conjuring up the kind of cosy house music that will see you through the long winter nights. Heko holds court over the A side "Melrose Flames" and "Ethereal", summoning up a healthy amount of synth-pop charm and soundtrack mystery across both jams. Gnork has a slightly more space-sighted approach on "Out There" with its wistful Detroit-esque pads and dusty drum machines, before he switches stance on "Blorp93-Piano93" with a focus on a subtly processed piano hook with little else around it. Oddnipp's "Tripp 4" takes a diversion once again, this time ending up down a spooky back road of forlorn melodic wraiths and downbeat house rhythms.

Review: Dub techno don Luke Hess has been a mainstay of Omar S's FXHE label for as long as we, or anyone in fact, can remember. The Motor City talent dropped this particular EP, 'Dubout EP #3.13', back in 2011 but it now resurfaces and has aged to perfection with some extra touches from Smith himself. 'Narrow Road' is strident and direct dub techno with signature FXHE chords. 'Leads To Life' is more liquid and paired back with an undulating bassline and a cosmic feel to the swirling pads. 'Unity Excerpt' closes with more icy beats, hi-hats and skittish synths that snake throughout the mix.

Review: Modern day Detroit legend Omar S takes a break from promoting his line of Omar S Ice Cube trays to lend his mixing skills to this two track EP from Detroit native Luke Hess. Produced on murky blue marble vinyl, Michigan Central Station contains the type of glacial dubby techno you'd expect from an Echochord Colour release. The disconsolate song titles are more than matched here by the melancholy nature of Hess's productions. "The Problem Of Decay (Greed Affects Us All)" sees chords echo and bounce across the desolate soundscape of gentle pads and kick patterns that drop into the mix with intermittent ease. Over on the other side "Corridor's Solution (A Plea For Change)" goes deeper still, ramping up the bass some and indulging in more cavernous chord patterns.

Review: Given that Luke Hess has previously appeared on Omar-S's FXHE label, it was probably only a matter of time before the latter appeared on the former's Deep Labs imprint. While the two producers' styles are notably different - Omar-S largely offers a house head's take on the trademark Detroit sound, while Hess is more interested in Motor City techno - they share a love of machine soul. It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that this two-tracker is really rather good. The real killer is "Outerspace Drive", an enveloping and uplifting chunk of Detroit futurism layered with sublime sci-fi synths, hissing percussion and cascading chords. That said, the deeper, more hypnotic "Automatic Night" - a kind of purist tech-house exercusion - is pretty darn tasty, too.

Review: Over the last 12 months, Tom Harris AKA Hidden Spheres has proved to be one of the most adaptable producers in the deep house scene. He not only delivered plenty of tropical and dreamy fare via his Fruit Merchant imprint, but also got rough, raw and ragged via an acid and electro-influenced EP on Lobster UNDR. "Words Can't Explain" is another deft change of direction, with honey-voiced guest Oscar Jerome offering a superb soul vocal over a warm and woozy backing track rich in broken house drums, toasty synth bass, drowsy Rhodes chords and effortlessly jazzy guitar solos. It's superb, and one of Harris' best tracks to date. Also worth checking is the club-ready revision by Yu Su, which not only utilizes heavy sub bass but also some crunchy drum machine percussion.

Review: Volume One of a label retrospective of pioneering early 90s Prog House label Interactive Test Compiled by Alex from Utopia Records and enigmatic Interactive Test founder Franco Falsini. Falsini, responsible for many of the underground classics on the label he founded in Florence in 1991 was first known for his 70s Italian Prog / Cosmic group Sensations Fix. A trailblazer who continued to push the boundaries of electronic music two decades later with Interactive Test, accompanied by the up-and-coming talents of Trance hero DJ Miki the Dolphin, his brother Riccardo and an host of cult Italian music producers. Here we start with 5 tracks from the archive, all highly collectable, remastered for DJs and psychedelic music enthusiastic alike from the best sources possible. Authentic and original dance sounds still hitting the spot in our times.

For its fifth release, it's another various artists affair featuring a whopping six tracks with appearances from I Gemin on the dusty, boompty and off-kilter 'I Like 2 Party', Paul Rudder & OUI go ultra deep in the tradition of the Three Chairs sound on the emotive 'In The Sky For Our Love', while Bendrik serves up the mandatory late night mood music vibes on 'Chat House' and Swales provides the banger on the funky and tough rolling 'Blue Skies'.

First up is iLO who plays the long game with a yearning and burning slice of deep house that starts out stripped and subtle before blossoming into a fully-fledged vocal delight. Ooft! takes care of the B-side with a boogie-tasting get down entitled "Howard's Way" which will get heads nodding and bodies popping to a bassline that calls to mind Evelyn King's much loved "I'm In Love" low end destroyer.
