Njoo El Leyl (4:07)
Review: Earlier in the year, Italian reissue specialists offered up a tidy reissue of Ahmed Fakrun's "Nisyan", a sought-after chunk of Arabic blue-eyed soul that originally appeared as a seven-inch single in 1977. Here they offer up a new edition of its predecessor, which the Lebanese musician recording during the same recording sessions in Milan. With its flanged guitars, lolloping reggae-funk swing, spacey synths and warm bass, "Auidny" is particularly inspired, though the West Coast AOR-influenced warmth of flipside "Njoo El Leyl" is arguably equally as addictive. Both are superb, though, so it's great that Groovin' has slung them out again.

Tokyo Matt - "Pi Po Pa Editsu" (6:38)
Review: Disco Hamam's Hamam House launched in 2014 and they've left us hanging at a lonely taverna table ever since... Knowing the party would warm up once again. Three years later, it truly has an a largely Turkish collective lay down a supreme collection of eastern funk trips. Fattish's "Gel Seher" adds a little swaggering house beat beneath the soaring vocals and strings, Kozmonotosman gets mischievous with a loose-string twang jam while Kurt Adam enshroud us with a strangely percussed subverted lounge ballad. Tokyo Matt takes a final roll of the dice with a tropical finale laced with fretless bass finesse.

Review: Munich-based jazz quintet Fazer is Simon Popp and Sebastian Wolfgruber, two masterful drummers who distil world music, afro and jazz into their own unique sound. Here one of their cuts get reworked by shamanistic rhythm innovator Azu Tiwaline. 'Sound Measures (part VI-X)' is a n epic excursion into feathery drumming and jumbled percussion that is like tuning into the sound of the jungle itself. The rework is more mysterious, managing o sound like an ancient ritual as well as a future soundscape where sci-fi motifs mix with jazz drums. Stunning.

Combo Los Galleros - "Tabaco Mascao" (2:49)
Review: Soulful Torino have been given the keys to a very exciting vault; Disco Fuentes - Columbia's oldest record label. They kick off the relationship with two contrasting cuts; "Gato Negro" is straight up heel-kicking boogaloo with alluring, sordid horns, gutsy vocals and a groove that doesn't quit. Flip for "Combo Los Galleros", a coastal cumbia track that sways lightly with layers of light-hearted horns and soul shaking percussion. Beautiful.

Crema Mental (3:47)
Review: It's a while since we heard from contemporary cumbia stars Frente Cumbiero, who found fame earlier in the decade with a string of singles and an album length dub revision of their work by British soundsystem hero Mad Professor. They kick of their first single in six years with "Sondirama", a jaunty and restless affair rich in rasping horn lines, mazy 1970s Moog synthesizer sounds, lilting Latin trumpet, incessant organ stabs and the band's omnipresent Colombian style beats. It's rather good, all told, as is the rather more eccentric B-side, "Crema Mental", which sees them pepper a dense, off-kilter tropical rhythm with tango style accordions, trip-inducing synthesizer solos and marching brass stabs.

El Metodo De La Cera Perdida (4:24)
Review: When Names You Can Trust was first establishing itself in the late 2000s, few of the label's artists did more to raise its reputation than 21st century Cumbia fusionists Frente Cumbiero. Via a series of seriously good singles, the Mario Galeano Toro-helmed outfit established themselves as a cumbia band like no other. They've been fairly quiet of late, so this belated return to the Brooklyn imprint is undeniably long overdue. A-side 'Porrovia' is simply superb: a fuzzy, bass-heavy Cumbia shuffler laden with buzzing analogue synth sounds, beefy sub-bass, punchy horns and stacks of quality Colombian percussion. Deeper, warmer and more rhythmically complex flipside 'El Metodo De La Cera Perdido' is equally as impressive, if a little subdued in comparison to the illustrious A-side.

Deixa Passar (Gerardo Frisina rework) (4:33)

Ile (Gerardo Frisina rework) (4:08)
Review: Five years on from their debut collaborative EP 'Frisina Meets Toco', modern Brasilian dance artists Gerardo Frisina and Toco return for a second faceoff, this time with liaising artist Luzia Dvorek serving as ringmaster. Centring on samba-infused jazz and deep house with mystical and folk influences, "deixa passar" translates from Portuguese to "let it pass", though the mood is certainly not outright passive. This delectably quartered slice of carnivalesque dance music is rather rich in sonic papaya juice, charting sustained vocal contrasts between Toco and Luzia against smoky and furnaced beats. Aperient track 'Deixa Passar' leans heaviest on languid piano, whilst dozier mists emerge on the B-side in the form of 'Ile' and its rework by Gerardo Frisina, bringing pan flutes, strings, breathy vocal counterpoints, cabasa shaker, and subtle bass undercurrents.

Review: Panorama Records' reissue of 'Salsa Na Ma' by Fruko Y Sus Tesos is a celebration of Colombian salsa at its finest. Originally released in 1973, this track is a timeless classic that still sets dancefloors on fire. The B-side, 'El Preso,' adds to the allure of this limited 7" release. Panorama Records has a track record of unearthing musical gems, and 'Salsa Na Ma' is no exception. Remastered and packaged in a vintage sleeve, this reissue feels like a rare find from Bogota. With support from notable tastemakers including Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge, this reissue is for collectors and DJs as well as lovers of decent music.

Review: Vladimir Sivc aka. Funky Destination has been cutting and chopping up house, funk and jazz since the late noughts, seeing multiple releases on outlets like Timewarp and Cold Busted since then. Sound Exhibitions finally team up with the Croatian crackajack for 'Jungle Bird Tree', which was originally released as an exclusive track on an obscure digital Summer 2023 compilation (seriously, it deserves better, and don't SE know), and here lend it a neat little Wicked Break rework from Louie. On the B-side comes the scruffier number 'Bar GoGo', which is our favourite of the two, not least for its sunkissed axe loops and heartfelt folk vocal sample.

Lego Edit - "El Safari" (5:16)
Review: Samosa Records returns with Afrikano Vol. 3 which is a lovely Afro-themed, genre-blending EP featuring four standout tracks from trusted artists. Kicking things off is Vincent Galgo's 'African Rebel,' a 125bpm fusion of horns, driving rhythms, and Afro-pop bass. Frank Virgilio follows with 'Mistress,' a jazz-infused mid-tempo groover, packed with guitar riffs, organ stabs, and hypnotic bongos. Newcomer Casper Leo delivers 'Tom Tom,' a tribal delight featuring Kora guitar and melodic Marimba. Closing the EP is Lego Edit's 'El Safari,' a sultry Afrobeat banger that grabs hold and doesn't let go.

Review: The cursed global pandemic may have put paid to this year's Tropical Pressure festival in Cornwall, but thanks to this first compilation style EP from its' new offshoot label, we can now recreate the event's humid, colourful musical vibe in our own homes. The selections are naturally top-drawer, with the heavy tropical Afro-funk of Guy One's EP-opening 'Bangarre Tomme' brilliantly setting the tone. Faith Mussa impresses with the deliciously positive and sun-kissed 'Ngoma' - all rubbery bass, JuJu style guitars and bouncy beats - while Guided Souls get hot and heavy on the raw and fuzzy Afro-house of 'Freedoms Light'. We'd also recommend checking out the 'No Nations Dub' of 'Kameno' by No Nations Orchestra, a sun-bright slab of audio sunshine rich in glistening guitars and punchy horns.

Review: As part of a cultural exchange programme that found Floating Points and James Holden travelling to Morocco to take part in a unique collaborative week next to the pool at the Fellah Hotel. Working with Maalem Mahmoud Guinia and his band, the British artists turned in their own versions from the sessions with excellent results. Floating Points takes a delicate approach to the source material, slowly feeding in considered synth lines to accompany the traditional claps, chants and guembri. James Holden meanwhile offers up "Bania" which captures a rough and ready African production vibe that equally complements the music. Comes with 16 page booklet!

Review: Mukatsuku's next lovingly assembled offering is a 12" that has a logo laser etching on the b-side. On the A-side is a raw slice of fantastic Afro-funk by Francis The Great. It originally appeared on his 1977 Ravissante Baby album and was reissued in 2015 but now comes on nice heavy wax. It is served up as an instrumental re-edit and is powered by heavy bass from Vicky Edimo and majestic lead guitar from Toto Guillaume who work up a seven-minute-plus trip with expressive horns. The groove never quits and keeps on pulling you in as the arrangement evolves and a steamy mood builds. Superb.

Review: The magnificent Mukatsuku returns with another superb little package here on limited 12". It features the Afro disco sounds of Fred Fisher Atalobhor And His Ogiza Dance Band firstly on 'WTFS' which was originally released back in 1981. It's a booty-wiggling cut with myriad funky lines, squelchy synth motifs, lush chords and soul drenched vocals that bring the sunshine and party in equally playful measure. On the flip is 'Ebi Lolo' which is defined by its big brass section and loosey-goose guitar lines, bright chords and subtle funk. Two great gems once more from this on point label.

It's packed with revived Afro disco sounds from Fred Fisher Atalobhor and His Ogiza Dance Band. Melodies International is a real favourite label here at Juno HQ, headed up famously by Floating Points and finds including Mafalda. The third volume of their Melodies record Club is as good as anything the label has put out to date: it features a trio of jazz cuts selected by the one and only Hunee. First is Digital Justice's 'Theme From "It's All Gone Pearshaped"', a 13 minute live jam packed with synth action. On the flip is a spiritual piece from harpist Dorothy Ashby and Frantz Tuernal's 'Koultans'. Says Hunee, "these three distinct pieces of music tap into different layers of my memory."

Part of Mr Bongo's Cuban Classics series, the record blends Latin rock, funk, soul, disco, and Afro-Cuban rhythms into an eclectic and captivating sound. The funk-heavy opener, 'Muevete Con Las Fuerzas Del Corazon' features an infectious bassline, lively horns and drum breaks, setting the tone for a genre-hopping journey. With standout tracks like the Latin disco-funk 'Casa De Ladrillo' and a cover of Commodores' 'Brick House' this hidden gem, which was produced by Tony TaNo, is a must-have for both fans and collectors.

Review: While visiting Morocco in 2012, Habibi Funk founder Jannis Sturtz wandered into a dusty electronics store in Casablanca. While there, he discovered a stash of previously unknown Moroccan funk records from the 1970s and early '80s. The one that really pricked his interest came from a singer called Fadoul. Four years and countless trips to Morocco later, he's finally ready to tell the story of a man who made "Arabic funk with a punk attitude". Al Zman Saib, the first collection of this forgotten funk hero's little-known career, is full of fuzzy, attitude-laden, lo-fi funk gems. As well as original material inspired by his American heroes, the compilation also contains his Arabic language covers of tracks by James Brown and Free. Like the rest of the material, both are deliciously loose, heavy and enthusiastically performed.

Initially released by legendary label Celluloid - home to some genuinely genre-bending electro, post-punk and experimental World Music - the well regarded full-length saw the Libyan singer/songwriter/musician blend traditional Arabic instrumentation and vocal harmonies with the distinctive shimmer of synthesizers, and typically Western pop production. 33 years on, the album has lost none of its' potency, with the breezy, English language track "Love Words", Talking Heads-ish "Soleil Soleil" and cheery "Kalimat Hob" standing out.

Review: For the latest volume in their crate-digging disco series, Under The Influence, Z Records has turned to long-serving British brothers Simon and Robin Lee AKA Faze Action. In keeping with the series' dusty-fingered ethos, there's plenty of brilliant rarities to set the pulse racing - see the smooth '80s boogie of Leston Paul's "All Nite Tonight", the sublime Afro-disco brilliance of Bebe Manga, the up-tempo hustle of Oscar Perry's "Body Movements" and the South American disco swirl of Don Lurio's "Ruba Ruba" - as well as a smattering of obscure versions of classic dancefloor hits (check Michele Claire's version of "In The Bush"). You'll also find a smattering of killer Faze Action edits, too, with their version of Midway's "Set It Out" and Mikki's freestyle-era boogie ham "Dance Lover" standing out.
