6th Borough Project - "Estranged Lover"
Haku - "Rugo"
Andy Ash - "Somehow"
Deep Space Orchestra - "Erase Everything"
Review: The Use of Weapons imprint has mastered the easy to grasp, hard to master formula of matching clutches of (excellent) original tracks from Cottam and label bosses Deep Space Orchestra with well-chosen and even better executed remixes from the likes of Hunee, Neville Watson and Marcello Napoletano. The fourth release sees a change in tack, with the label opting to focus on original material from 6th Borough Project, Haku, Andy Ash and of course Deep Space Orchestra. Graeme The Revenge Clark and Craig Smith kick off proceedings with the suitable thick set slow burning "Estranged Lover", though it's "Rugo" by Haku that impresses most. The new project of Deep Space Orchestra's Chris Barker, the track is a superb kaleidoscopic concoction of fizzing uptempo live percussion, synths and drum machines that has more than a touch of the Carl Craigs about it. Andy Ash switches proceedings back to chunky mutant discoid dirt with the heads down, tops off vibes of "Somehow" while the Deep Space Orchestra head for the expanses of future tech jazz with the ten minute odyssey "Erase Everything".

Review: Laboratory Instinct unveils the second of a quartet of wax releases that will make up the vinyl version of A Guy Called Gerald's recent album, Tronic Jazz: The Berlin Sessions. On the A Side you are treated to the sinister orchestral acid wobble of "Nuovo Alfa" and the cleaner punchy techno of "Flutter". On the B Side the legendary producer drops "Wow Yheah", which flips a vocal snippet of a mid nineties hip-hop classic over growling bass patterns and a jacking metallic rhythm.

Iland

Round Eco
The Dip
Review: Laboratory Instinct grace our shelves with the third in a quartet of 12 inch releases that act as the vinyl version for A Guy Called Gerald's recent and rather sleek ''Tronic Jazz'' album. Your attention on Side A will dominated by the spectral dalliance with vintage Detroit techno mechanics of ''Iland'', with expertly layered syncopation reverberating around to a backdrop of cavernous throbbing bass and dreamy synth lines. This contrasts nicely with the neo techno futurism of ''Just Soul'' with melancholic strings slipping between tense off-kilter drum programming and bubbling atmospherics. Proceedings shift up a gear on ''Round Eco,'' which pulsates with menacing KiNK-ish energy, with an odd vocal murmur forming the driving groove around which Simpson wraps glacial keys and deviant bass twinges. Closing track ''The Dip'' oscillates wildly with B movie sci fi synth lines and scratching metallic tones.

Come Together
Review: Not any orchestral live band can create a feeling that translates so fluidly on the dancefloor. When they redid "Jaguar", A Hundred Birds took DJ Rolando's Detroit techno classic "Knights Of The Jaguar" and recreated it. Released by Wave in 2003, this tune made a big moment when Francois K dropped it at his Deep Space party, bringing the celebration to emotional new heights. The band also recorded a cover version of Angelique Kidjo's "Batonga" in 2001. With two covers and an original song, "Georgia", A Hundred Birds have gone on to receive international acclaim. A Hundred Birds return with yet another classic remake: "Black Water". It was the summer of 2000 and Kevin Saunderson's project Octave One conjured the original, a big club hit. You might remember its nostalgic melody and sweet harmony, reprised here in "Black Water". A Hundred Birds give this song new life, with their authentic acoustic treatment covering a whole new ground for the dancefloor.

Hang Up
Sweetback
Review: ** Repress ** Dave Huismans swiftly follows on from that incendiary 50 Weapons 12" with an equally explosive return to the Clone Basement Series. One of the first names to contribute to the series back in 2009, both "Hang Up" and "Sweetback" find Huismans eschewing the jagged, garage flecked drill techno dynamism of last year's "Take The Plunge" for some of his "most banging, straight-forward club material to date". The lead track is bristling with uneasy liquid funk, heavily diced Hancock vibes cascading around the buccaneering drum patterns with glee. "Sweetback," meanwhile, creeps out from the murky depths, driven by dust battered kicks and gnarly, sinewy analogue twists - there's no greater philosophy at work here, it's simply dark techno for dark rooms.

Review: The third in Prescription's From the Vaults series is perhaps the most crucial to date, delivering a clutch of veritable classics from the label's archives. Review: Often found spiraling amongst the stars, A Sagittariun takes a turn inwards for this formidable foray into tougher techno realms for MPX. The drum jack pressure is real on "No Drama", which also sports a wonderfully psychoactive synth line to wriggle into your nerve endings with potent results. Mor Elian does a killer job on the remix too, chopping up the groove to create some dynamic syncopation around that nagging synth hook. "Loose Fit" and "Hand Of Eris" on the flip keep up the percussive pressure, but there's also plenty of character rubbed into these rhythmic ripples to make it far more than a set of DJ tools.

Mrs J (Constant mix)
Review: After kicking off their label in style with Burnski's 'Your Love' backed up by remixes from Trus Me and Steve O'Sullivan, Constant Sound use their second release to showcase a pair of up and coming producers from Newcastle., A Scott & Richard Rowell. 'Mrs J' has been burning a hole in Burnski's bag for some time now, waiting for the right opportunity to get unleashed on the public good and proper. The quality of the production belies the youth of the pair behind this addictive, bumping tech-house cut, although years spent as residents for the Jaunt parties in Newcastle and London have undoubtedly fed into the quality of their sound. This time around, the choice of guest remixers shows the true digging nature of the Constant Sound team, as cult German production duo Cab Drivers are invited up to do their thing. With a multitude of aliases running since the mid 90s on their own Cabinet Records imprint, Daniel Paul and Jens Augustowsky have received praise from high places for their finely honed, crisply executed house and techno. Leonel Castillo meanwhile brings a hypnotic South American touch to 'Mrs J', as the Argentinian producer draws upon more than a decades worth of experience releasing on labels such as Aux-Rec, Airdrop and Sushitech. That leaves it to label bosses Burnski and Jon Woodall to team up under their shared Constant guise, giving the collaborative project a debut airing with this sleek and strutting reinterpretation of A Scott & Richard Rowell's original track. Whether from well-established or just emerging artists, there's a consistency to the tracks forming around Constant Sound that shows it to be a trusted stamp for critical house and techno.

Fourth (4:47)
Review: It's been a while since we last heard from the Mellophonia label and its star attraction, A Vision Of Panorama, but now the producer known as Mikhail Khvasko is back with a new record that expands on the soft and silky Balearic house sound he established himself with across some wonderful EPs and 2016's "Aquafusion" album. The sun is still very much shining down on this new record, which leads in with the fittingly titled "Delicious Saw". Khvasko's whole sound is geared towards celebration of gorgeous synth tones, and so it goes here thanks to that seriously tasty sawtooth wave. "Lum" cools down the boogie bump of its predecessor for something more reflective, while "Euphoria" gets into an oh-so-sweet house funk that would sound at home on Strictly Jaz Unit. "Fourth" finishes the EP off with a seriously sticky bassline squelch and some effervescent piano lines - another melodic marvel on a record full of them.

Review: Norwegian producer A:G has been steadily building up a repertoire for the likes of Aquavit, Det Gode Selskab and Blossy, and now he comes to EYA with a plush sound that skips deftly between techno, electro and deep house. "Look Inside" opens the EP up with a neon-lit sojourn through city streets where the pads are brooding and the bleeps yearn with melancholy not dissimilar to classic Alex Smoke. "Singing Nervous System" is a more uptempo affair that uses a taut 4/4 rhythm section and dark splashes of synth work, while "Snap Out" brings the swing without losing the noirish ambience. "So To Speak" rounds things out with another skippy jam that could go down well at the peak of a sweaty basement hoedown.

Review: Previously known as A1 Bassline and, more recently, Laszlo Dancehall with Leon Vynehall, A1B sets up his own stall with a clutch of heads-down deep-focused house jams. "Broken" shuffles with a warm air that could have easily come from MAW's studios 20 years ago "Edits" is a straight-up drum track with full focus on mix creativity while "Scars" takes a clipped Detroitian-flavoured hook and lays it over a rolling b-boy breakbeat. Aatropa & Tephillin deliver the most upfront cut in "Bells Jam", which still lurks in oddball synth flourishes around a chunky thud of kick drum, before Fabric drifts out into ambient bliss. Review: Fast making a name for himself after a brace of EP's for Border Community and Output (RIP), Luke Abbott continues to dazzle with these four new gems of futuristic, motorik tech-house on the Allez Allez imprint Amazing Sounds. The title track is simply stunning - a two-chord wonder of spacey and gliding synths anchored by minimal kicks and claps. 'One Hundred & Thirteen' is just as heart-tuggingly beautiful, while 'Present' ups the tempo to around 150bpm and rides a brilliant glitchy-melody. The moody drones of 'Schmitt Swell' rounds things off nicely and makes for a vital and highly impressive EP from Abbott.

Review: Luke Abbott drops his second EP for Notwon with the Object Is a Navigator EP. The title tracks implements Abbots trademark trance-like style with complicated drum patterns and gut-wrenching synthesis techniques. The low noise floor of modular mechanics at work is just audible in "New Buildings" as is the analogue overdrive fuzz that cloaks the track. Minimal bleeps, watery sprinkles and synthetic drums similar to Pantha Du Prince make up "A Short Distance" while "Silent Fall" is a operatic demonstration of Abbot's producer know-how. The muffled drums of "Overgrown" verge on being techno, but not enough to detract from the Border Community stalwart's experimental charm.

"The Majestic" bosses the A Side with a stripped back jacking groove laying down the gauntlet before Aber implements the titular looped vocal that echoes and pulses with hypnotic intent, seemingly forming new phrases as the track progresses propelled along by a menacing line in bass movements. Review: Shlomi Aber has over the years managed to create himself an honourable place and became one of the leading DJs and producers in the Israeli night life scene. He also runs his own show on the famous Israeli radio station -"South Radio". Shlomi Aber's sets are full with warm and unique sounds that makes you feel like you are going back to the better days of house music, you can just feel the magic in the air. Shlomi's musical inspirations can't be defined by one genre, taken from jazz to funk, disco, deep-house, electro, progressive, acid and techno but the main fact remains that he manages to create his own musical niche that makes him stand out from a lot of DJs out there. "Absolutely love Something New !!! Really fucking good shit!" - Jody Wisternoff, "Both sides are cool - Good buzz about it in 3 Beat - and doing well for me - very tasty" - Steve Parry (Juice FM/3Beat), "More peak-time chunky house from alternative route" - Jerry Bouthier, "Massive release from Shlomi - it's really cool. Right On
Review: Madrid based producer Above Smoke returns to his own Deep Explorer label with his "Time" EP. Ten releases after 2007's "The Gathering" EP, the producer makes a welcome return with four original tracks of deep house with a slow, smooth and emotive feel.

Opening with "Forever in My Mind" Above Smoke drafts in the help of Alton Miller whose soulful vocal hook compliments the jazz inspired, dubby production of the track perfectly. Following simple piano key melodies and building chords the track drops into funky bass rolls with nice breaks and hand claps. There is another collaborator on the following track, "Elevation." This time, Stereociti of Mojuba records joins Above Smoke on this deep and calm track. A nod to the more relaxed sound of Detroit, "Elevation" merges a steady, understated beat with light percussion and hushed piano chords. The occasional soulful vocal adds to the sophistication of the track, turning it into a piece of deep house music in its purest form. "Burning" goes even deeper, this time utilising echoed vocals and stretched synthesizers to create a warm and easy feeling throughout. There is some light bongo action in there and a nice groove weaves and bends itself around straightforward beats. Finishing the package is "Right On" which steps things up a gear with some 4 / 4 beat and waving bass. The 'I Gotta Have It' vocal cries back to the original days of house as Above Smoke keeps everything very controlled in another of his deep house efforts.

As one of the main artists responsible for the sound of Deep Explorer, it is great to see Above Smoke back where he belongs. And even better that the Spaniard has been able to pick up exactly where he left off from to deliver some more pristine, deep house cuts.

Review: The new reference of Deep Explorer brings the different visions in electronic music for the dancefloor of Javier Alvarez (aka Above Smoke) until now habitual in Deep Explorer for his works of mastering and his remixes for different artists within the world of the electronic music. On the A side, 'Hysteria' gives what its name suggests and opens the EP with a cut of electronic house with a solid bass influenced by Environ or Chicken Lips among others. 'Minimal Time' is exactly what title transmits: a subject of clicks and cuts with a marked rhythm for a defined mixture. The B side begins with the reconstruction that makes Dubbyman main subject of 12". 'Hysteria' (Dubbyman remix) is a cut uptempo of electro-house with synthetic low effects for high hours session. Finally, 'Feel To Learn' closes the disc with its dragged rhythm and cool sax. The result is a honest tribute to the present masters of the Detroit sound like Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon Jr or Rick Wade among others.

Review: "Music Is The Answer", Colonel Abrams' landmark 1984 debut release, was not his first stab at stardom. In fact, earlier the same year he'd recorded a series of dubbed-out demos with Boyd Jarvis at Timmy Regisford's apartment. Here, those demos - mastered from dusty eight-track tape - get a public airing for the first time. Despite their vintage, all three tracks still sound phenomenally soulful and futuristic, as if all three men were laying down a blueprint for deep house (albeit with the addition of the delay-laden drums that were such a feature of NYC productions during the period). "You Got Me Running", in particular, is superb, with Abrams' putting in a superbly impassioned but bittersweet vocal performance.

With a distinctive quirky line and a typical Abril heavily bouncing groove, '200 Grams' keeps you
moving all the way up to the main break and then takes you back into the dubby old school groove. If the a-side is
freaky and bouncing, well the ep title-track 'Your Face Is A Mess' on the flip can only be described as a dirty mind-blowing
minimal/tech house track with a druggy vocal all over and a very stripped down synth line. This record will catch the
dancefloor's attention, in line with the different and unique approach that's nowadays one of BAO's own trademarks.
Again, Be As One delivers the main anthem of the coming winter season with their last release for 2007 and seals an
amazing first year, ensuring itself a honour spot amongst the top respected labels.

Sleepless Night - Sitting (Sex Schon remix)
Forest Of Sleep
Review: 'Sleepless Night - Sitting' is the third EP by Abstraxion on Biologic. The first track 'Sleepless night-sitting' is a very smooth and emotive song with a deep groove and lots of dark and tortured sequences. It seems that Abstraxion has found how to do more than a catchy electro house, especially with the track 'Rebellious Silence', it contains a powerful groove transcended by a melody, that comes deep in your heart.

Review: This is the second release on French label Biologic records, following up Abstraxion's exposition EP. Fans of Citizen, Kitsuné or Beauty Case will be satisfied with this. It packs a punch, produced by Abstraxion coming up with electro techno tracker, with a rocky edge. Right in the actual tendencies, this is packed with freshness.

Spring Theory (Move D remix) (6:34)
Spring Theory (Luv Jam Summer re-nip) (7:04)
Review: The wonderful Blind Jacks Journey return with their first 12" of 2015, and it sees the label return to a track from one of their very first releases in the shape of Acasual's "Spring Theory". A highlight of Dream House Volume 1.3, the German's production is given the royal remix treatment with his highly regarded compatriot, the hero from Heidelberg, Move D, first up. Moufang's unmistakable sense of deepness adds a whole new dimension to "Spring Theory", and results in another gorgeous Move D production. On the B side it's Luv Jam lending his hand this time, on more of a lo-fi version with a bouncy bassline, dreamy, floating strings and a murmuring vocal melody.

Acasual - "Her"
Tominori Hosoya - "Thinking Of The Days"
Kiddmisha & Apoena - "Dancin"
Jonno & Tommo - "Mystic Feelings"
Review: The latest offering on Owen Jay's Batti Batti label features a cast of characters doing different but equally excellent things within the realm of deep house. Acasual is up first, presenting a reflective tour through lingering chords and swirling pads perfect for rainy spring days, while Tominori Hosoya goes one further with the soul-stirring ambience of "Thinking Of The Days". Kiddmisha & Apoena set light to the B-side with the restrained but utterly on-point depth charge "Dancin", and then Jonno & Tommo round the record out with the sultry "Mystic Feelings", making this a complete package of high grade house music from the heart.

Your Love (In A Jam) (Idjut Boys house version)
Your Love (In A Jam) (Idjut Boys acid version)
Review: Absurd Recordings maintain the standards laid down with the Tin Man & Donato Dozzy shaped brilliance of their first Acid Test release in premiering the sounds of Achterbahn D'amour. A new collaborative project between Iron Curtis and Edit Piafra, it sees the duo explore the jerked out stripped down end of the Chicago House spectrum with the sprawling stuttering acid twirl out of "Talking Acid" a definite highlight. On the flip the heroic Idjut Boys deliver two remixes of "Your Love" which hit the spot with H bomb aplomb. The guttural bass aesthetics of the spinal "Version House" proves to be a nice counterpart to the floating 303 brilliance of the "Version Acid". Free d/l code of all tracks included too!

Don't Talk To Me (6:14)
Review: Los Angeles based acid freaks Absurd return with another chapter in their Acid Test series. For their 13th controlled drug trial they have tapped label staples Achterbahn D'Amour - the duo comprised of Edit Piafra and Iron Curtis. This is their seventh release for the label thus far. With this project they express their love for the raw side of Chicago house, techno and EBM but specifically the sounds of the infamous little silver box. There's some deeply aquatic trance induction on offer, with for instance the dynamic opener "Balustrade", while they channel some Donato Dozzy (who has also appeared for the label previously) styled hypnotic techno on the sinister "Dehaveland" which also gets a respectful and more powerful VC-118A remix by the always impressive Samuel Van Dijk. Finally things end on a sublime electro tip with the emotive robotic movements displayed on "Don't Talk To Me".

Achterbahn D'amour - "JX3"
Albert & Albert - "Forever"
Review: Curated by Johannes Albert, the Frank Music imprint has forged a strong identity within the field of mean modern house music, fully welcoming of the analogue revival but unconcerned with 'old-skool' sounds. So it is on this EP, with Achterbahn D'Amour on excellent form ahead of a forthcoming LP, seizing the opportunity to rip it up with some techno infused energy on the uptempo "JX3". Johannes slides over to the flip side with Jurgen Albert of Achterbahn for a dose of fist-shaking fun and games, hammering out a mean beat and an off-kilter melodic sample with an unrelenting will to get bodies moving.

Djazirat El Maghreb

Mogador (feat Uness Bass - club version) (8:06)
Hafla (feat Kenzi Bourras - instrumental) (5:30)
Amal (7:38)
Review: Acid Arab is a collaboration between Guido Minisky and Herve Carvalho, which seeks to unite the worlds of underground dance music and Middle Eastern tradition. In the wrong hands, this could have ended horribly, sounding like an advert for a package tour to Morocco. Thankfully on El Maghreb, for I:Cube's always essential Versatile, the pair manage to bring these two worlds together with great flair. The most functional track is "Mogador (club version)", where dense drums and spiraling horns create a fantastical, frenzied track. However, it's not hard to escape the notion that Acid Arab are capable of far more adventurous combinations and this is audible on the hypnotic, mysterious pipe playing and seductive pulses of "Hafla" and on "Amal", a slow-motion, dubbed out mood music piece.
