Restoration EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MEANDYOU 09. Rel: 26 Feb 18
Techno
  1. SM4L
  2. Mistral
  3. Interlude
  4. SKIV Loop (rework)
Review: Always a reliable destination for cult talents operating on exciting frontiers of techno, meandyou this time shine a light on J.S. Zeiter, who adopts the Analog 1 alias for some dense, meticulously crafted trips into the strange psychedelic underbelly of dub techno. "SM4L" features pastoral chord swells straining behind a babbling brook of high frequency sound design, while "Mistral" takes a classical approach to ambient composition, all yearning arpeggios and lingering keys. "Interlude" is a brief twirl around blown out drums and textural impulses, and then "SKIV Loop (Rework)" sets a more positive tone for the end of the EP, pushing classic dub techno sounds into a hazy, summery space away from the usual icy tundra the genre normally inhabits.

  5. Hardcore Mns IV (2:50)
Review: As part of Mura Oka, Louis Vial has already been spotted on the excellent Latency label as well as delivering a solo EP to Collapsing Market earlier this year. He once again dons his Eszaid cape on this release for the equally fine Meandyou stable, tapping into the labels predilection for obscure variations on the fringes of house and techno. "777,7" is especially captivating in its insistent cyclical minimalism, drilling straight for the subconscious, while "Eyeless Mannekin" sets adrift in aqueous climes for a proper floatation tank dub techno immersion. Using subtlety as a powerful tool, Eszaid ably matches up to the quality that has come before on Meandyou.

Deep House
  1. Even Tuell - "Boys Truth" (8:40)
  2. Sul - "Does It For Andy" (4:01)
  3. Sensu - "Sigmon" (7:24)
  4. Fabric - "Pink Grid" (7:09)
Review: Manchester's meandyou. collective take their time over releases, averaging just over a 12" per year. Here they kick off 2016 with another collaborative EP, full of drowsy deep house, crackling techno and tipsy, world-weary ambience. With label conspirator Herron otherwise engaged, it falls to Workshopper Even Tuell to kick things off with the slowly unfurling new age chords, blazed vocal samples and sparse-but-chunky deep house groove of "Boys Truth". Sul "Does It For Andy" on the creepy, discordant dark world ambient track of the same name, before Sensu brings back the beats on the hypnotic, experimental dubby techno shuffle of "Sigmon". Finally, Fabric lays back and lights something fragrant on the similarly dub techno influenced, metallic IDM-goes-ambient of "Pink Grid".

Review: It's been a while since we last heard from Juniper, the Manchester-based duo who showed much promise with early outings on Underground Quality and the like. Having previously popped up on a various artists 12", they return to the ever-essential meandyou with a strong statement of intent, packing five tracks into an EP that presents their subversive style immaculately. "Indigo Children" is a head-turning cut that fuses uptempo Motor City style electro and techno with industrial tones, while "Life Source Negative" switches stance for a beautiful, craftily constructed drift into woozy deep house. Every track is noteworthy on this release, balancing immediacy and warmth against experimental textures in a way that sits very comfortably on meandyou.

Techno
  1. Bago (6:26)
  2. Depart (7:07)
  3. Peace (5:49)
  4. Spheric (4:41)
Review: While Palaphor may not be a familiar name, the artist behind it is deeply entrenched in the meandyou story. Manchester's premier stable of house and techno subversives have long vibrated to the sound of Juniper, and now one half of the duo presents a new stream of inventive machine expression from the outer limits. Even if the space and textures on this EP place it in the leftfield, it actually hits with immediacy and warmth that makes it incredibly easy to sink into. From the autumnal haze of "Depart" to the melancholic thrust of "Peace," this is a gorgeous addition to the impeccable meandyou catalogue. One can only hope there's more music from Palaphor waiting in the wings.
