Review: Following years spent flitting between labels including Smallville, Closer and Wolf Music Recordings, Sebastian Genz AKA Moomin landed on Turkish imprint Oath four years ago. After a surprise period of silence, he's back on the label with Into The Distance - his first full-length excursion in eight years. Given his impressive track record, it's no surprise to find that he's delivered the goods once more. For proof, check the twinkling pianos, spacey chords and shuffling deep house beats of 'Things Left Behind', the dreamy breakbeat business of 'Into The Distance', the jazzy downtempo deepness of 'Island Dreams', the sun-splashed dancefloor colour of 'A Way Out', and the hushed jazz-house perfection of 'Night Moves'.

There's naturally loads to set the pulse racing throughout, from the ultra-deep hypnotism of Kisk's 'I Wanna Dance With You' and Osunlade's snappy, bass-heavy 'Cucumber Sweat', to the nu-disco-influenced deep house hustle of Marcel Vogel & LYMA's 'Put The Lid On' Balearic house colour of Eduardo's 'Wdac', and the breezy deep house soul of Erin Buku and Inkswel's 'Find Your Way' (with Leonard Charles). Big Strick himself layers in electrically charged, fizzing synths and ticking hi-hats to his raw and gritty 'Bang My Shit' and Ron Cook ups the pace with the blissed out bumps of heady hymn, 'Again And Again.' Pegasvs from London also stands out with his great drum programming on '808 Jazz'.

Review: Eager to contrast his music to "a sea of disposable cookie-cutter music", sonic Chicago singularity Hieroglyphic Being is given a exalting debut on Mathematics with 'The Sound Of Something', providing an extra pharaoh's prayer after his most recent avant-garde self-release, 'An Era Of Spiritual Tenebrae'. A dozen dramas extend over what sound like alt-futuristic house tracks with pyramided spires lopped off the top; the sonic equivalent of sunk relief symbols in sandstone. Increasingly irreverent as it progresses, 'Track 9' and 'Track 7' can be marked out as the weirdo highlights, relishing artifactual mud, stodgy fidelity.
