Review: Destination Baltimore 1995, Alienage (AKA Tony Pegas and Don Corrieri) indulged in a little lysergic and sonic experimentation. The results were a series of seriously heady club bangers released on Gargoyle and they still sound fat as hell 25 years later. This latest reissue sees Alienage take the lead with necksnap electro breaks, a sultry vox and buckets of sub before Pegas goes solo with his Madd Scientist alias on the b-boy style 'Funky Dreamz'. Flip for two from Who: the slamming TCR-style breaks of 'Shitty Samples On Acid' and an earlier 90s-style, heavily layered, slightly proggy jam 'House Rhythm'. Keep watching the skies.

Review: Huntleys & Palmers continue their mission to bring the best of the world's dance music to the masses with this hugely anticipated release. Glasgow resident Auntie Flo's "Oh My Days" has already found favour with the likes of Jackmaster, xxxy and Pearson Sound, and it's easy to see why. Combining an infectious vocal snippet which lodges itself deep in your brain with a slowly rising synth line and clattering percussion, it succeeds due to its unique mixture of African pop and contemporary bass which is quite unlike anything released this year. But although it's the A-Side here that has been extensively caned by all the big names, South Africa's DJ Sdunkero's "Choosing Love" on the flip is easily as good. A deceptively simple kwaito track, it loops a simple rubbery synth line which is stretched to breaking point, whilst an underlying accordion-like tone gives it a curiously maudlin touch which contrasts its epic scope in great fashion. Essential.

For those with their ear to the ground, 'Make Me' has been an underground monster hit for Borai and Denham Audio for time, but now it's getting a proper 12" release on Room Two with some heavyweight remixes. Taking a classic 90s vocal sample and giving it a thorough ruffing up, the original is hard to top, but Big Ang and Mani Festo turn in suitably rowdy versions which continue the theme of hardcore revivalism in fine style. Meanwhile bassline legend Paul Sirrell steps up for a flamboyant version which harks back to the original mid-90s cut that inspired 'Make Me' in the first place.
