Review: When Marie Davidson announced last year that she would be, "retiring from club music", many wondered what she'd do next. Renegade Breakdown, her first album recorded with a full band (L'Oeuil Nu), answers that question. It sees the Canadian artist and her new collaborators deliver suitably arresting, personal and ear-catching songs built on mixing and matching a surprisingly wide variety of musical inspirations, from Blondie, classic disco and mutilated heavy metal guitars, to Kraftwerk, Billie Holliday, Fleetwood Mac and Daft Punk. It's a big shift for the previously highly experimental artist, but thanks to her skill as both a a producer and performer, one that works magnificently well.

Review: Selene by Akira Kosemura & Lawrence English is a beautiful exploration of atmosphere and gravity, seamlessly weaving together expansive soundscapes with a grounding sense of stability. At its core, Selene is a contemplative journey that delves into the human desire for transcendence and new perspectives. Through its meditative compositions, the record captures the essence of celestial zones and the boundless visions they evoke. Review: L'Imperatrice's upcoming album Pulsar promises to be a vibrant fusion of funk, disco, pop, and house music, enriched with influences from French house and Italo-disco. Review: Slang Spirituals is soul singer and producer Lady Blackbird's latest full-length album, following up the EP of the same name released earlier in 2024. A collaborative wall of sound, scaled in collaboration with producer and guitarist Chris Seefried - as well as her very own, devoted session musical retinue, consisting of Kenneth Crouch (Keys), Tamar Barzilay (drums) and Johnny Flaughers (bass) - this bright, yet equally, extimately melancholic record is a twin paean to two superficially opposed themes: soul-purgation and soul-complication. 'Let Not' and 'Purify' make up the former front face, heliolatrically facing up to the brighter sides of life with yellowed guitar fuzzes and boundless vocals, while B-siders 'Whatever His Name' and 'When The Game Is Played On You' prefer to explore the darker side of the moon, deploying various mellotrons, pump organs and cross-sticks to acoustically muse on the inverse pains that are betrayal, longing, and graft.

Review:  Lady Blackbird is the first singer to grace Foundation Music, and you'd best be paying attention to this vital new voice in the realm of soul jazz. Hailing from LA and blessed with a smoky voice to rival some of the greats, one listen to 'Blackbird' is all you need to be utterly captivated. The sultry playing from Deron Johnson, Jonathan Flaugher, Jimmy Paxson and Troy Andrews perfectly matches Blackbird's arresting voice, gliding between stormy explosions and the softest of touches to match the mood. Black Acid Soul is perhaps the perfect description for the music, shot through with a streak of 60s psych but taking it to some dark corners - a true expression rendered in sumptuous, noirish hues.

Review: Many critics have dubbed Lady Gaga's Mayhem, the superstar's latest full-length excursion, as a return to her pop roots - not to mention her strongest and most coherent set since breakthrough album Fame. Recorded at Rick Rubin's studio with the help of a crack team of producers, the assembled songs variously draw on synth-pop, EDM style pop-house, gritty industrial funk, the gnarled strut of electroclash and, perhaps more surprisingly, guitar-driven alt-rock. Naturally, Gaga is in fine form throughout, sassily and confidently delivering lyrics that muse on "love, chaos, fame and desire". This Japanese CD edition comes bundled with an art card, stickers and an expansive booklet.

Review: The king of west coast hip-hop is back better than ever, with a massive sounding album blending cinematic production with nostalgic nods to funk, slow jams and new jack swing, creating a rich tapestry of different styles. At its core is a narrative of resilience and responsibility, exploring themes of artistry, sacrifice, and the pressures of being a role model. Opening with sharp reflections on personal and public controversies, the record sets a tone of wisdom tempered by humor. Tracks like 'Heart Pt. 6' showcase vulnerability and growth, while others revel in pure bravado, bolstered by thunderous beats and infectious hooks. Collaborations with seasoned producers and emerging talent add depth, creating a sense of community and mentorship that underscores the artist's commitment to nurturing the next generation. Lyrically, the album examines fame, familial bonds and self-acceptance with a sense of duty and truth. It's a powerful statement of intention, offering both anthems for celebration and moments of introspection.

Review: Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, the Compton-based rapper's first album since 2012's major label debut, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, has been receiving rave reviews. In truth, it's not hard to see why. Imaginative, soulful, and blessed with the looseness of live performance (a result of the use of jazz-minded live players as much as anything else), it sounds like the kind of album that may one day be hailed as a hip-hop classic. Sure, there are big name guests - Dre, Snoop, George Clinton and Thundercat included - but the focus remains on Lamar's distinctive flow and almost cinematic tales of life on L.A's streets. Given the quality of his lyrics, that's no bad thing.

Review: Kendrick Lamarr has always been one of hip-hop's most thoughtful and thought-provoking MCs, with a passion for utilising beats and backing tracks that often sidestep hackneyed rap tropes and lazy samples. Even so, Mr Morale & The Big Steppers, Lamarr's first solo album for five years, is an arresting listen from start to finish. Impeccably produced, with countless musical twists and turns, spellbinding instrumentation (including jazz pianos, orchestration, intriguing electronics, sparkling synths and punchy rhythms aplenty), it sees Lamarr lyrically signposting his own failings (something not enough rappers of his profile are comfortable doing) within a wider framework of accountability. It's brave but brilliant, with some of the topics covered including his relationship with money, white women and his father, gender and generational trauma. A genuinely landmark album all told.

Review: Huge bass lines, a lot of shouting and swearing about the injustices that surround the world we live in today, crashing drums and a harsh guitar all make up the ferocious sound of Punk Rock 2025 and specifically this debut Lambrini Girls album. Phoebe Lunny's lyrics are delivered with venom and clarity that the listener may not want to eventually sing along to but will surely digest and be influenced by as the social ills that seem to be nudging us on a daily basis are still not subsiding. While the world are getting to grips with the rise of bands such as Amyl & The Sniffers this UK take on society's failings are similar to the subject matter one or two Punk Rock bands have been screaming about since the late 1970's. Sexual harassment within the workplace, police brutality and the misconduct that has surrounded the police force recently, same sex relationships, gentrification, gay rights, trans rights...these subjects are all covered here with hints of sarcasm, wit, anger and conviction (vodka and cider too maybe?). One or two light hearted moments mean it's not too difficult a listen despite some of the serious subject matter and all delivered in a way not heard since Bikini Kill or X Ray Spex. A speedy, 30 minute album that'll be listened to again and again for many years to come.

Review: In the early 1960s at Berklee College of Music, Byard Lancaster connected with fellow musicians like Sonny Sharrock and Dave Burrell and they helped steer him towards the world of free jazz. After moving to New York, he recorded with Sunny Murray and released his debut album It's Not Up to Us in 1968. In the early 1970s, Lancaster frequently collaborated with Jef Gilson and released four albums on Gilson's Palm Records, including Funny Funky Rib Crib. This 1974 recording blends brilliantly creative jazz with funk and soul elements and features an ensemble that explores dynamic grooves and meditative tracks like 'Work and Pray' and 'Loving Kindness.'

Review: The box set Huge, Large and Electric: Hugo Largo 1984-1991 offers a deep dive into the experimental art-rock quartet's full discography, bringing together studio albums, rarities and live recordings. Emerging from New York's 1980s No Wave scene, Hugo Largo stood out with their unorthodox lineup of two bass guitars, violin and powerhouse vocalist Mimi Goese, creating a sound that blended dream pop, ambient and avant-rock. Their debut album, Drum (produced by Michael Stipe), set the tone with eerie, minimalist arrangements and haunting vocals. Tracks like 'Eskimo Song' and 'Second Skin' became standout examples of their melancholic yet intense energy. Goese's theatrical voice, often described as a powerful instrument of its own, added a sense of danger to their art-rock atmosphere. On their second album, Mettle, Hugo Largo took their avant-garde roots and added more pop sensibility without sacrificing originality. Songs like 'Turtle Song' and 'Hot Day' introduced playful tension, showing Goese's vocal range and the band's willingness to experiment. This box set, lovingly curated by Missing Piece, revives a pivotal chapter in American post-punk history.

Review: Established way-back in 1981, before the idea of Italo-disco as a standalone style became popular, Erik van Vilet and Michael van der Kuy's Laserdance project was responsible for a string of synth-heavy electronic disco and prototype Eurodance anthems. Unusually, the project is still a going concern, with the duo recording a new album in 2024. Fire On Earth dates from 1994 and here reappears on CD for the first time since. Largely cheery, sci-fi-fired and undeniably optimistic, the music on show combines elements associated with Italo-disco and 1980s synthpop - thickset, arpeggio style basslines, colourful chords, Fairlight-derived orchestral stabs and bubbly electronic lead lines - with conscious nods to Eurodance, Italodance and the then emerging sound of trance.

Review: The Last Poets, pioneers of revolutionary spoken word and proto-rap, return with a powerful new album that blends their fiery lyricism with the infectious rhythms of Afrobeat. 'Africanism' sees the legendary duo, Abiodun Oyewole and Umar Bin Hassan, collaborating with a stellar cast of musicians, including the late Tony Allen, Prince Fatty, and members of Seun Kuti's Egypt 80. The result is a potent and timely exploration of social and political issues, delivered with the same raw energy and uncompromising spirit that has defined The Last Poets' music for over five decades. Abiodun revisits classics like 'When The Revolution Comes' and 'Gash Man', their messages of social justice and self-empowerment still burning bright. Umar's 'Niggers Are Scared Of Revolution' and 'Just Because' remain as potent and provocative as ever, their unflinching commentary on race and inequality cutting through the noise of contemporary discourse. The album's musical landscape is equally captivating, with Tony Allen's polyrhythmic drumming providing a driving force, complemented by the soulful melodies and intricate arrangements of the contributing musicians. A powerful reminder of the transformative power of music and spoken word.

Review: Mike Lazarev drops his first album on Past Inside the Present and it's one that reminds us why he has such a great reputation as being one of modern ambient and classical's finest composers. After exploring notions of time on previous records, for this one, he embraces the here and now and that lends itself to a record steeped in mindfulness and meditation. As such, Sacred Tonalities is a perfect accompaniment to introspective moments with textural soundscapes placing you at the centre of them. The harmonics range from soft to gritty, the moods occasionally hint at trance and the layers of bass, piano and arps bring subtle and ever-shifting rhythms.

Review: Cindy Lee's Diamond Jubilee invites listeners to experience an exquisite journey through sound and emotion. Hailed as a major contender for the 2024 Polaris Music Prize, this album offers a fascinating tapestry of ethereal melodies and haunting reflections. Crafted over countless hours in studios stretching from Toronto to Montreal, Patrick Flegel channels a unique blend of nostalgia and longing. With infectious hooks wrapped around evocative arrangements, Diamond Jubilee is a striking embodiment of innovation in experimental pop, solidifying Cindy Lee's position as an important figure in contemporary music.

Review: DJ, curator and producer Dave Lee (fka. Joey Negro) continues to celebrate his 30-odd year long career in music with his second curatorital comp release. The 'Produced With Love' series charts all of Lee's original productions in soulful house and disco, and this second edition includes choices songs by the likes of Destiny II, Leroy Burgess and Andreya Triana. Always collaborative and with effortless attention to funking detail, Lee brings it once again.

Review: In truth, not all DJs are genuine "tastemakers", but Lefto most certainly is. Like the similarly minded - if far older and more experienced - Gilles Peterson, Lefto gets as much pleasure from introducing people to new and obscure music, as he does from rocking clubs. It's for that reason The Beauty Is Inside, a terrific, lightly blended mix of eclectic, far-sighted sounds hand-picked by the Belgian, is such essential listening. It naturally contains some slept-on tackle from the past - see the cuts by Ethiopian singer Alemayeu Eshete and South African artist Patience Africa - but even more killer contemporary fare, with highlights including the contributions of Qur'an Shaheed, Elisa Bee, fellow Belgians abrahamblue and contemporary jazz hero Makaya McCraven.

Review: Les Rallizes Denudes' live recording from Yaneura, September 1980, brings their raw, avant-garde sound into sharp focus. The CD format captures every detail of the distorted guitars, hypnotic basslines, and feedback-soaked atmospheres that defined their performances. Tracks such as 'Enter the Mirror' stretch into lengthy, chaotic soundscapes, blending haunting vocals with relentless, repetitive rhythms. The balance of noise and melody is uncompromising, creating a listening experience that feels as challenging as it is immersive. A rare opportunity to delve into the intensity of the band's live presence.

Review: On the latest volume in the Late Night Tales series, Don Letts has dug deep into his crates to present a selection of some of his favourite dubbed-out reggae cover versions, alongside dub style remixes of more contemporary covers. It's a simple concept, brilliantly executed, with Letts offering up some exclusive, dubplate style remixes amongst the classic cuts and recent gems. Highlights include, but are in no way limited to, the full vocal dub of Capitol 1212's take on Joy Dvision's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', Mad Professor's insanely weighty 2021 dub of John Holt classic 'You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine', Blackbox Recorder's oddball reggae-soul version of 'Uptown Top Rankin' and Easy Stars All Stars' deliciously mystical interpretation of The Beatles' 'Within You Without You'.

Review: This brand new 2xCD set celebrates Level 42's 1985 top three album World Machine, which was produced with Wally Badarou. The album reached #3 in early 1986 and features the hit singles 'Something About You' which peaked at #6, and 'Leaving Me Now' which went on to reach #15. In the U.S., a Shep Pettibone remix of 'Something About You' became their highest-charting single by hitting #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. CD1 includes the original album, while CD2 offers some fresh 7" edits, 12" extended versions, remixes and B-sides. The set also features a booklet with lyrics, photos and a foreword by Simon Carson and Paul Waller.

Over the past half century, Tony Levin has been a prolific session player and one of the most active live performers on the planet. He's contributed his talents to over five hundred albums amongst which include 15 with Peter Gabriel and 18 with King Crimson (counting live, studio, and compilations). Alongside contributions to the work of John Lennon, Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Herbie Mann, Paul Simon and many others. On tour, he's travelled The World many times over with the aforementioned King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, and several of his own bands including Stick Men. This Fall, he'll stage 65 performances in North America as a member of BEAT, celebrating King Crimson's 80's repertoire alongside Adrian Belew, Steve Vai and Danny Carey interpreting Discipline, Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair."

Levin's seventh solo album, and his first since 2007, is an autobiography of sorts, with the themes drawn from Levin's musical life. It features a myriad of collaborators from his half-century-plus on the road and in the studio with Peter Gabriel, King Crimson and many, many others.

"It could have been done a long time ago, frankly," Levin says, of Bringing It Down to the Bass, "but it's because of a problem I have, which is a very good problem to have. And that's that I have a lot of touring and that's what I love to do, playing live. It just didn't give me much time at home to work on finishing the album that I've been working on for five or six years."

"I had pieces very much in the prog-rock vein and I had pieces that were based on the bass," Levin says, "and somewhere around the middle of the record I made the difficult decision to toss the prog stuff - well, not toss it exactly, save it for another album - and the more I focused, I chose the kind of pieces that had to me a sense of unity to it in that it's about the bass. Not songs with singing about the bass, but each song is either based on a bass riff or a bass technique that I then invited some great rhythm sections to play on.

Review: For the label's latest essential two-disc trawl through the archives of Jamaican music culture, Doctor Bird has decided to take us back to the late 1970s and the dawn of dancehall - then a kind of harder, more upbeat take on reggae rather than the drum machine-powered rhythmic powerhouse it became. The Volcano Dancehall Albums Collection features a quartet of full-length excursions produced by early dancehall hero Henry 'Junjo' Lawes: Barrington Levy's influential 'Bounty Hunter', 'Weh Dem a Go Do' by young deejay/toaster Cocoa Tea, and a pair of sets by fellow patois proto-rapper Charlie Chaplin ('Sound System' and the superb 'Dancehall Rockers'). Throw in a handful of essential bonus cuts (including the full 12" version of Barrington Levy's take on Horace Andy favourite 'Skylarking') and you have an indispensable collection of formative dancehall classics.

Review: The Libertines is a rather divisive band but we are firmly in the fan camp. It's great to have the pari of Carl Barat and Pete Doherty back working together as older, wiser men, but happily their music has lost none of the urgency it had when they were drug loving youths. They defined a specific period in UK music culture back at the turn of the millennium and are now back for more with All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, which according to frontman Pete Doherty happened "in a moment of rare peace". Lead single 'Run Run Run' has already performed well brings both lots of raw riffs, raucous energy and some of the superb songwriting they were famous for first time around.

Review: With the tragic, untimely passing of lead vocalist Chester Bennington in 2017, it naturally appeared to be the end for nu-metal/alt rock juggernauts Linkin Park, until recently shocking their fans with the confirmed news that Dead Sara vocalist Emily Armstrong would be taking Bennington's place, while new drummer Colin Brittain would step in to replace Rob Bourdain who decided not to join the reformation. Serving as the follow up to 2017's pop focused One More Light, the band's upcoming eight full-length LP From Zero takes its title from their original early day name Xero whilst highlighting this newly defined creative origin the members have found themselves cornered into, bearing clear signs of a desire to celebrate their nu-metal beginnings without undoing the decades worth of progression they have accomplished since. With 11 tracks and just over a half-hour runtime, it's evident the project appears to be prioritising brevity and a succinct introduction to this new era without losing site of what sonically drew their legions of fans to them in the first place. It's a brave, delicate time for Linkin Park with From Zero championed as the heralding of this new chapter, aiming to hopefully bridge and appease listeners from all spectrums of their back catalogue.

Review: It's been seven years since the tragic passing of Chester Bennington and the abrupt end of nu-metal legends Linkin Park, while their legacy remains praised and intact by avid fans. Papercuts offers up a career-spanning greatest hits collection, yet rather than sequencing each bundle of tracks chronologically in terms of specific album release, the cuts are mixed with the design of flowing as naturally as possible, with the anthemic 'Faint' from 2003's Meteora rubbing shoulders with their iconic Jay-Z Collision Course collab 'Numb/Encore'. Elsewhere, 'One Step Closer'; the breakout single from 2000's genre-defining debut LP Hybrid Theory is followed directly by 'New Divide', which served as the lead single from the Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen soundtrack. From their rap-metal beginnings to their signature style of nu/alt-metal to the their calmer accessible later era, this compilation delivers a succinct yet sprawling distillation of Linkin Park's most vital contributions to the several dynamic scenes they helped to elevate.

Review: Thai rapper and singer Lisa drops her debut studio solo album Lisa, marking her first RCA Records release after her split from South Korean entertainment group YG Entertainment. With breakout rockstar energies and edgy hyperpop production, Atler Ego is a culminant musing on what it means to be a popstar or rockstar in 2025: like Taylor Swift, Lisa explores many different eras, with the album moving in five phases, each one representing a unique personality: in turn, Lisa appears in front of: a monolithic black rock structure, an outer-space catwalk, an enchanted garden, a green laser-beam motorcycle track and a volcanic red runway.

Review: British outfit Little Barrie - guitarist Barrie Cadogan and bassist Lewis Wharton - team up with Malcolm Catto, known for his experimental edge as producer and drummer with Heliocentrics, on this raw-edged collaboration. Cadogan and Wharton, whose distinctive sound helped define the opening notes of Vince Gilligan's own-right spinoff Better Call Saul, bring their tightly wound energy into Catto's sonically unpredictable world. What emerges is a tense, scorched blend of overdriven guitar stabs, thicketed percussion, and eerie atmospheres that play like a weather report from a collapsing city. Catto's rhythmic instincts create a fractured foundation where Little Barrie's gritty melodies can unravel or coil without warning. Far from polished or predictable, the record thrives on friction and volatility, capturing three musicians testing the limits of structure and sound.

Review: Little Feat's Deluxe Edition of Feats Don't Fail Me Now celebrates the 50th anniversary of the iconic group's fourth studio album. Released on a triple CD set, this edition features newly remastered studio recordings alongside rare alternate versions and outtakes from the album sessions. Included in the collection is an exclusive unreleased live recording from Little Feat's 1975 performance in Paris, showcasing the band's dynamic energy on stage. Despite the challenges posed by the loss of session tapes from Blue Seas Recording Studio, where the album was originally recorded, this Deluxe Edition offers a treasure trove of previously unheard material. Feats Don't Fail Me Now highlights the classic lineup's talents, with standout tracks like Rock & Roll Doctor and Oh Atlanta, complemented by the funk-infused sounds of Tower of Power's horn section. Originally released in 1974, the album garnered critical acclaim for its funky grooves and reached gold status, marking a significant milestone in Little Feat's career as it climbed to #36 on the Billboard Top 200.With its wealth of unreleased content and enhanced audio quality, this Deluxe Edition promises to delight both longtime fans and newcomers to Little Feat's timeless music.

Review: Ultra 85 marks a bold and creative chapter in Logic's discography, the album shining with smooth, live-instrumentation and vibrant production that underscores Logic's most dynamic performances to date. The album's narrative elements, including skits and a tie-in novel, add an intriguing sci-fi layer to the project, creating a unique listening experience. The skits are theatrical and they contribute to the album's imaginative scope. Tracks like 'Paul Rodriguez' and 'Mission Control' highlight Logic's impressive flow and dedication to the genre. His singing on tracks like 'Innerstellar' offers a refreshing break and underscores his versatility. Although some hooks might come off as playful or experimental, they reflect Logic's creative spirit and willingness to push boundaries. Ultra 85 is a great example of Logic's dedication and artistry, offering a mix of energetic raps, inventive ideas, and heartfelt moments. A great listen that stands as an ambitious addition to his body of work.

Review: Berlin-based Sydneysider LOGIC1000 (real name Samantha Poulter) enjoyed a prolific and productive 2024, becoming something of an in-demand DJ, producer and remixer on the back of her acclaimed debut album Mother, a typically distinctive affair that pulled deep house in a variety of woozy, melodious and inventive new directions. Her inclusion in K7's long-running DJ Kicks series is therefore well-earned. It offers a home listening-ready distillation of her sound that's notably 'calmer' (in the label's words) than her club sets. But that's no bad thing, as it allows greater exploration of experimental, downtempo and hyper-pop, alongside a string of exclusives (including the obligatory track created for the series) and some heady, mid-tempo dancefloor grooves.

Review: London Grammar's The Greatest Love is a fine showcase of the band's signature ethereal sound. Hannah Reid's hauntingly beautiful vocals, paired with the band's atmospheric instrumentals, create an emotional and immersive vibe as the album explores themes of love, loss, and resilience. Standout tracks include the likes 'The Greatest Love' and 'Heavenly' which bring lyrical depth and musical sophistication. Each song is meticulously crafted, blending lush melodies with poignant lyrics, which helps make The Greatest Love a compelling addition to London Grammar's discography and a must-listen for fans of evocative and soulful music.

Review: Following the success of their first semi-improvised session last year - recorded and released for posterity on Jaiyade Sessions Volume 1 - Anglo-Danish collective London Odense Ensemble reunited for a second stint in the studio. The results are, naturally, impressive, with the five-piece (saxophonist and multi-wind instrumentalist Tamar Osborn, keys-man Al MacSween, bassist and guitarist Martin Rude, drummer Jakob Skott and guitarist/producer Jonas Munk) trading solos over heavyweight grooves and spaced-out electronics. It's undeniably a jazz record, but one that also offers nods to spiralling psychedelia, acid-fried funk and their mutual love of West African music.

Review: On their first album, 2023's Legacy, French trio Emile Londonien (a name chosen to reflect their love of British musical culture) explored contemporary jazz of the sort you might hear played by locals at London's Total Refreshment Centre. They take a slightly different tack on Inwards, combining the breeziness and musical positivity of their previous work with added nods to jazz-funk, dub, fusion, spaced-out soundscapes, soul-jazz and broken beat. Highlights are plentiful, from the smoky sweetness of 'Easy' (featuring guest vocalist Cherise) and the loose-limbed organic dancefloor rhythms of 'Catch The Light' (a definite nod to UK legend Kaidi Tatham), to the intergalactic jazz-soul of 'Another Galaxy' (with Ashley Henry) and the live tech-jazz masterpiece 'The Vibe Is'.

Review: Will Long aka Celer, Mississippi-born but now permanently resident in Tokyo, intensifies his investigation in personal house music with the fourth edition in his Long Trax series. A quartered circle of evolving textures of at first seemingly diminutive character, this manifest impression is dashed once we learn that each track on the record is given its own side, allowing each ample space to unfold within an economically restrained formula: dry drum machines, subtle chords, hygge bass. Clearly an ode to productive limitation: 'The Right Choice' tosses us the first chord against gambolling percs, while 'You Cannot Reform A Sin' brings marching, DC-offset acid. The release redresses historic wrongs too, using carefully extracted, recorded samples of key voices in the Afro-American civil rights movement.

Review: Midway through the last decade, Bureau B reissued a kosmiche curiosity from cult synthesiser composer Rudiger Lorenz, Southland - a set inspired by idle daydreaming about the island nations of the southern pacific and the south Atlantic. Here, they return to the late artist's catalogue, presenting their pick of the music featured on the DIY tapes and records he self-released (usually in very small quantities) between 1981 and '83 - IE the period before Southland was recorded. Larger darker and moodier than that set, Lorenz delivers a synthesizer-heavy musical blend of contemporaneous influences that consistently delivers the goods. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the sparse and warped 'Chabomilla Sabinae', the Tangerine Dream-esque beauty of 'Dreaming of Saba', the electronic ambience of 'Independence' and the star-gazing drift of 'Anigre'.

Review: Lowfish originally released his 'Burn The Lights Out' LP in 2007 on the US label Satamile but we have found some copies of it in the warehouse. Synth-pop meets breakbeats in an electrifying fusion of emotive melodies and bass-heavy beats across all four sides of the long player with ten then-new tracks and two classics from his Sat.31 EP. They all show that his music, complex yet accessible, evokes images of Blade Runner, Wave Noir, or William Gibson. It is post-modern in approach as it skilfully blends past and present styles to create a sound uniquely his own, seamlessly bridging the gap between eras while pushing the boundaries in his own way.

Review: A UK club culture icon for all the right reasons, Luke Unabomber has put in a helluva shift over the years bringing the best tunes to the best parties for decades upon decades. He might be just as visible these days as a social media raconteur-comedian, but his depth of knowledge is unfathomable and a compilation like this is the perfect vessel to realise just a little of what he possesses in his fabled record shelves. Away from direct dancefloor firecrackers, this is a chance for Una to show off some jaw-dropping mellow cuts spanning soul, jazz funk, spaced-out electro and scores more obscurities besides. It's a collection like no other, featuring fully fledged songs that will burrow into the soundtrack of your own life without even a shred of resistance.

Review: Brian Williams' Lustmord project has existed in different forms for over 40 years, though it's only in the last couple of decades - when it has become a vehicle for his solo work - that new musical missives have become a regular occurrence. On Much Unseen Is Also Here, the former industrial musician turned soundtrack composer once again showcases his mastery of pitch-black sonics, creepy soundscapes and horror-inspired dark ambient workouts. As you'd expect, the sound design is incredible - listen on good quality headphones for the ultimate listening experience - while Williams' penchant for throwing in suspenseful chords, billowing aural textures and unsettling vocalisations adds further layers of paganistic mystery.

Review: Brooklyn don Joell Ortiz is back with one of his most potent partnerships to date. L'Orange is the kind of hip-hop producer who knows how to bridge the gap between sample-rooted nostalgia and head-twisting innovation, and so we're gifted with a full suite of beats that shock on first listen before burrowing their way into your subconscious before the second bar is finished. It's the perfect backdrop for Ortiz to lay down his crystal clear street tales, delivered with the perfect blend of venom, humour, sensitivity and stubbornness - gifts hard won on his rise to the top of the rap pile and deployed to devastating effect on this album.

Review: .Six years after their acclaimed Ten Thousand Lions, roots artist Ras Teo and Spanish producer Roberto Sanchez reunite for Soul Rebel, a bold new project blending Teo's conscious lyrics with vintage rocksteady riddims. Originally sparked in 2018 during sessions at A-Lone Ark Muzik Studio, the album grew from two standout tracks into a full-length record which is unexpected yet seamless. Between them, the pair evoke classic Jamaican duos with buttery smooth harmonies and persuade drums and guitars that mesh perfectly with the bass. It's a case of all killer and no filler here wherever you listen.
