Review: Earl Sweatshirt's Feet of Clay album from late in 2019 was tantalisingly short in length, but not short in quality. The raw, woozy record found him exploring ambiguous wordplay that will keep you entertained trying to unpack it all for many hours. He himself described the 15 minute work as "a collection of observations and feelings recorded during the death throes of a crumbling empire" and it makes for a physical yet abstract record with emotion to spare. From gloomy and introverted r&b styles to more distorted jazz and loop beats, his silky tones always unify each track with great allure.

Review: After buying Snoop Doggs "Doggystyle" album aged eleven, Elliot Gleave (aka Example), penned his first Dogg-inspired rhymes much to the chagrin of his Fulham based folks and to the delight of his young homies. Fourteen years later and while he's still informed by heavyweight rappers like Snoop Dogg, Example's points of inspiration are varied to say the least. Last summer he was known as a bootleg piss taker - thanks to a rework of Lily Allen's 'Smile' ("You're switchin it on me cos you're needy love, look don't be bitter cos you aint Cheryl Tweedy") - and then as a socially conscious wordsmith after releasing "What We Made", a song about mankind's seemingly never-ending desire to self-destruct. With his innate contradictions you might think Example's a little confused, but he'll definitely entertain either way. With a catchy chorus sampling Muddy Waters, shout outs to Pizza Express and Nandos, "I Don't Want To" has all the ingredients we've come to expect from an Example track.

Review: Elusive former Odd Future wordsmith Earl Sweatshirt celebrated the ten year anniversary of his seminal 2013 major label debut Doris back in August to a sold out crowd down the road from our offices in KOKO. Directly after the show had finished, the mass would march down to the Jazz Cafe for an exclusive club night where teasers were unveiled of the long-gestating collaborative album with esteemed, multi-generational hip-hop producer The Alchemist. Already streaming while vinyl currently sits on the presses, Voir Dire offers a reliably hazy, laid back yet subtly esoteric collection of forward thinking, muted bangers; breathing with the same sonic ambivalence of a project such as Madvillainy, while the mainstay features from Sweatshirt alumni MIKE and Vince Staples aid in grounding the work within the ever-expanding tapestry of Earl's output.

Review: British synth-pop supergroup Electronic consisted of Bernard Sumner of New Order, Johnny Marr of The Smiths, Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys and Karl Bartos of Kraftwerk. The combined clout of these names surely amounted to enough credit to patent the name "Electronic", which always to us felt partially like an attempt to become synonymous with the music genre itself (as if these guys weren't synonymous with it already). On Get The Message, a 2006 compilation named after the second single from their debut album, we hear a thorough checking of their contribution to the golden decade that is the 1990s, cycling chronologically through the group's greatest hits, as well as some extra rarities and tidbits for curious fans.
