Review: Rumbling beat, mindbending dub chord and atmospheric safari by one of the absolute veterans of the Icelandic techno scene. Q-Box was originally released in 1999 on the legendary Thule Records and has since then been one of the ultimate go-to dub techno track for DJs worldwide. Now, 22 years later, the release has been remastered - and to add a little sprinke to the cake we have worthy remixes from some of the mightiest of the current Reykjavik techno scene.

Review: Combine your favourite elements of Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic label with Basic Channel, and Exos's Q Box, original released in 1998, will fulfil all your minimalistic, dubby dancefloor desires. The cold, percussive tones of "Attfalt" share a similar cadence with the early material of Rod Modell's DeepChord material, while "Haus I Krukku" is pure, rhythmically driven dub techno. "Gegnum Skraargat" is the most colourful of this record's four tracks, with "Spaellt", contrarily greyscale and stony in comparison. Techno doesn't get much more authentic than this.

Review: Quietly doing his thing since the late 90s, Exos has amassed releases for Force Inc. and Mosaic amongst others from his home base in Iceland, and now the ever-intrepid folks at Bliq have taken it upon themselves to put together this collection of Exos remixes from other Scandinavian acts. The producer himself gets stuck in first, linking up with Ruxpin to deliver a dense and bristling cut that falls slow and yearns to be a breakbeat without quite shrugging off the 4/4 anchor, while myriad layers of percussion propel the groove. DNH takes on "Downdriver" and wears it down into a thoroughly desaturated collection of gaseous exchanges, leaving Thor to step up with the most accessible cut in a friendly dub house manner.

Review: Exos, the seasoned Icelandic techno producer, returns with Icebreaker, a powerful release on Mutual Rytm Germany that dives deep into the genre's raw intensity. Side-1 opens with 'Voices Of Volcano,' a tribal-infused track that pulses with primal energy, echoing the chants of ancient rituals. Review: Making a surprise addition to Len Faki's respected Figure imprint is the enigmatic Icelandic techno legend Exos with the Alien Eyes EP. He has gradually been making a more regular return to production via imprints such as the locally respected Thule, Symbolism and Madrid's Sungate - not to mention his recently inaugurated X/OZ label. He's built up a reputation over the years for his skillful and diverse executions of techno, and is quite the expert at cavernous dub techno (much like his father Octal) on the sinister locomotive groove of "Pulp", followed by the hypnotic tunnel vision of the title track and the mentalist depth charged weapon "Changing Planets" which is perfect for trancing out under the strobe light.

Review: Exos' latest EP is a heavy, beat-laden techno record with three distinct tracks. The title track 'Infrared', opens with a crushing beat and fast percussion. It's a dynamic and powerful track with a strong build up and a devastating, menacing sound. The second track, 'Kaldur Klaki,' is a loopy, hard and fast, percussive, tribal track. It's a peak time track with an organic, drummy sound. The third track, 'The Bad', is a 90s German style track with a cool beat and a storming sound. Overall, 'Infrared' is a strong techno EP with three tracks that are sure to get you moving.

Review: Exos, the veteran Icelandic techno producer, delivers a powerful release with 'Green Light' on the iconic German label, Tresor. Side-1 opens with 'Dark Light', a relentless, hard-driving track that sets an intense tone with pounding beats and mechanical energy. 'Fire Chant' follows, offering a deep, sci-fi inspired journey, mixing subterranean sounds with an uptempo pace that keeps the tension high. Closing out the side is 'Gratt Silfur', a pulsating and mechanical cut that feels like it's forged in a factory of sound. Review: Following a recent visit to Columbia, rising Icelandic techno artist Exos connected with Gotshell and the pair joined forces for this trip into the truly transcendental end of the techno spectrum. There's a consistent approach this trans-continental pairing have taken, rolling out cyclical, densely packed rhythms whose delicate configuration masks a hefty low end, guaranteeing full meditative immersion. Folded into the mix are all kinds of smoky textures and distant pads feeding into an air of mystery and exploration - just the kind of eyes-closed techno you would expect to hear from the likes of Donato Dozzy or Neel. Maya Nidam then comes on board for a remix that continues the subliminal theme to great effect.

Review: Perc Trax has long been excelling at caustic and industrial-tinged, white-knuckle techno excursions. Former 3 is another case in point as various artists come together to nail you to the floor of a gritty warehouse. The boss himself, Perc, appears with Million on the squealing, blistering workout that is 'Rotopod' while EAS brings wild video game soundtrack madness to his intense 'Ryu Acid.' Add in linear bangers from Somniac One with 'Junkyard Shift' and Exos's gabber-tinged, flat-footed stomper 'Warlion' and you have an absolutely monster EP of techno.

Recently, that's meant a surprising re-focus on the Icelandic dub techno scene of the late '90s early 2000s. The chief beneficiary of this has been Arnvidur "Exos" Snorrason, whose pioneering 1998 12", Q-Box, recently resurfaced on Thule. Here, his 2001 album My Home Is Sonic gets the reissue treatment on Delsin. Sat somewhere between hypnotic German minimal, the relentless loops of Robert Hood, the dubwise Berlin antics of Rhythm & Sound, and classic Motor City futurism, the album remains a timeless example of dub techno at its' very best.
