A Million Machines - "Synthetic Eyes" (4:46)
Scannoir Project - "Loss Hellwyl" (7:03)
Vox Low - "Galactic Pot Healer" (8:15)
Stellar Tribe - "Infinite Space" (6:30)
Review: The Oraculo imprint simply cannot stop releasing the heat, even when the waves are as cold and tenebrous as this new collaborative EP! A Million Machines roll out the vintage sounding "Synthetic Eyes", a pure synth journey at its most romantic, while Scannoir Project's "Loss Hellwyl" tears the groove apart by replacing the vocals with all sorts of complex sonic structures from outer space. On the flipside, Vox Low's "Galactic Pot Healer" has more in common with downtempo and trip-hop than it does with EBM, and "Infinite Space" from Stellar Tribe delivers a deep, wondrous journey into the farthest reaches of the stratosphere. Intergalactic vibes.

Review: A Split Second's cult coldwave EP Flesh was dropped back in 1986 on Antler Records. The band of Marc Heyndrickx, and Peter Bonne (aka Chrismar Chayell) only formed a year earlier but his debut single made a huge impact and has become a real classic of the EBM and wave world ever since. Numerous albums followed well into the 90s but rarely did the pair ever top this - the jerking rhythms, ravey electronics and retro-future chords all resonating as much with audiences now as they did back then.

Lazy Soldier (feat Brendan Cleary) (5:22)
All Diving Lucid Blues (5:00)
Review: Rudolf Abramov describe their sound as 'a response to a seemingly endless conflict about disgust, acceptance and love.' The Berlin-based duo are certainly pretty hard to define, as is proven on this five track outing that veers from something close to the Brothers From Different Mothers sound, to lo-fi Irish punk folk. And if that's not grabbed your attention, we don't know what ever could. Lazy Soldier', with words spoken by Brendan Cleary and an overwhelming feeling of counter culture to its simple stomped drums, whooshing synths, and bass guitar underpinning the speech. And 'Cold Feet' opens the scoring with a broken, twisted, psychedelic workout somewhere between 1970s rock and contemporary dancefloors. Better yet, Losing Perspective is so much more besides, too.

Digital Space Interface (4:21)
Review: Mannequin's line in techno is always steely and fad-free, so Alessandro Adriani is a perfect person to step up and make the next contribution to its catalogue. There is an electro overtone to the opener with its muscular rhythms and zippy synths making for a dark, dystopian vibe. 'Life Reborn' then ups the energy levels with paddy kick drums beneath coruscated arps and tumbling hits that bring a hint of old-school EBM to the party. 'Spectres' is more overtly dark and hard and menacing with its ghoulish vocals and 'Digital Space Interface' then takes off to the cosmos on more sleek lines and something machine drum funk.

Review: Remastered and reissued with new a new album cover via the Clone West Coast Series, Adult's 'New Phonies' EP first appeared in 2000 as the duo moniker of Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller, two legit electro stalwarts. This is a proper snappy electro EP - of the least sympathetic and most coldly calculating kind - evoking the fright of becoming trapped inside an inescapable subliminal-sonic cybernetic feedback loop, with all human faculties thrown to the wayside. 'Hand To Phone', for example, locks us into a communicative-cybernetic stasis, with spitty acid 16ths betraying the mood of becoming affective chasers of electromagnetic signals, unwittingly carrying out the bidding of our new techno-evangelist overlords. The A-sider 'New Object', meanwhile, with its sizzling 808s, transitional fluctuations and hip-hop vocal refrain - "I need you to accommodate my comunication needs" - touches on several layers of objectification at once: sexual, commodification, loss of the ability to speak. Adult truly dealt with adult themes and embraced their recapture into the machine - now you too can own their New Object.

Review: The Advanced Cookbook Of Mr Selig And Kanzler Z was a short-lived experimental jazz act also known as Cookbook. They put out one EP and two albums, with this 12" being taken from the debut. It came in 1989 and German label the Zoo In You initially and has the vocals of Mr Selig on the A-side, and guitar by Wolfgang Bokelmann and words by Dieter Pougin on the flip. An original will cost you more than a night at the pub and even finding samples online can be hard. Rest assured it is future jazz that still sounds futuristic today.

Review: The Advisory Circle's Mind How You Go is a haunting and evocative album that transports listeners back to the eerie world of 1960s and 1970s public information films. Inspired by the chilling soundscapes of these films, the album captures a sense of nostalgia and unease that is both poignant and unsettling. The album's music is both catchy and unsettling, with its eerie melodies and haunting vocals creating a sense of unease. The lyrics, which often focus on themes of danger and caution, add to the album's unsettling atmosphere. Mind How You Go is a masterpiece of nostalgic electronica. It is a record that is both haunting and beautiful.

Review: There's something unavoidably magnetic about the intersection between ambition and self-awareness and this release, by Charonne, Nemo Vachez, Umberto and T Oceans, knows exactly how to tap into that tension. With each track, there's an undeniable undercurrent of both vulnerability and swaggeriproducers twisting minimal beats into something far deeper, dragging you through shadows with a mix of melancholy and movement. You feel the weight of their collective sound but also their defiant lightness, straddling the line between introspective and dancefloor-driven music. It's a textured, driving release with an ever-present air of mystery.

Do It To The Music (Fred Falke X Zen Freeman remix)
Review: 'Technopera' is the debut EP by Ampersounds (Fred Falke and Zen Freeman), featuring Rufus Wainwright. It's a bold claim for a debut electro-house EP to feature vocals by such a renowned artist. But Fred Falke nad Zen Freeman are no rookies either, having won the hearts of many a house and techno reveller in France, Europe and beyond since the 1990s. Ampersounds and the Wainwright collab was made manifest after an intellectual chat the trio shared over some highfalutin poetry; fittingly, Technopera has an air of intellectualism about it, with highlights like 'Solitude Of Heart' portraying a downtrodden mood blended with smart production and nods to '80s tropes.

Review: The mysterious 22recordings are Barcelona's loudest yet coolest answer to the scene's nascent popular demand for dark disco, gothic techno, neo-Italo and EBM; 2023 going into 2024 has witnessed them on a roll, issuing a string of fresh new EPs and singles in quick succession and all on vinyl no less. For the fourth addition to their original EPs series, this jet-set leather-bound inner circle welcome producers AMQN and PO into their coterie, and while we cannot for the life of us discern what these nominal acronyms stand for, we can almost certainly discern from the music on 'Capitulo IV' that said names probably refer to something deeply kinky, sublimated, transgressive. AMQN helms up the A for the hat-trick that is 'Natura', 'Este Mundo Es Loco', and 'SEX', spanning curious light-and-dark vacillations in uncategorisable yet no less propulsive sound - the essence of sadomasochistic switching, bottled in dance music form. PO opts for a different mood, with 'The Story Of Laura And Jim' tonally shifting into paranoiac narrations, gated phasings and dreamatic swells.

Review: An-i is the excellent new project from Doug Lee, a man previously responsible for some superb dancefloor ammo as part of TBD alongside Justin Vandervolgen, as well as working with Lovefingers on more mellow fare as The Stallions. If you were one of the lucky few to grab his Bad News 12" with LIES don Ron Morelli then you'll be ready for the haywire nature of the Kino-i EP. Finding a perfect home on Minimal Wave offshoot Cititrax, the EP sees the Berlin based producer indulge his machine love on three variations of the same track that almost explode off the wax - must check for fans of Nation, LIES, Mathematics. Pressed up on fluorescent 160gm yellow vinyl and housed in a high gloss black and white sleeve.

Review: Barcelona's 22Recordings takes a break from the usual electro fare with an intriguing fusion of minimal tech and electro - dare we say, 'minimal mech' - from DJ and producer Anah, the '22247005' EP. Far from a Sophie Ellis-Bextor flip, opener 'Murder On The Dancefloor' narrativises the act of contriving a hitman for hire, with a sinister voice urging as to clarify whether they can indeed be of assistance to the listener. This character accompanies us throughout the four-track journey, which is otherwise constituted of parping yet dark electro-disco sonics and consistently techy 4x4 draws, among which 'Fatality' is the most enticing.

Review: Khidi rolls out another anniversary EP here and it is another various artists affair that takes no prisoners. On their opener, Ancient Methods & OTHR bring some hellish metal and industrial overtones to the stomping, vicious 'Vast Vanishing' with its horror-core vocals. Roman & Boyd Chidt don't let up but offer a more linear and streamlined bit of stomping techno pressure. Silent Servant unleashes lashings of metallic synths over his signature tech sounds and then the floating loops of Unhuman & Vulkanski suspend you just above a rusty old factory floor.

Review: Reissue specialists Be With have a reputation for unearthing slept-on or hard-to-find gems. Their latest 'find' is Anna's Systems Breaking Down, a fairly obscure, left-of-centre synth-pop cut that's long been a favourite with Italo-disco DJs. This 12" reissue includes both versions from the 1982 RCA 7". The A-side boasts the skewed original, where Anna O'Malley's stylish vocal and frustrated screams intermingle with sustained chords, chiming melodies and fuzzy, downtempo drum machine beats. The real killer, though, is the stripped-back flipside "Dance Remix". Boasting less vocal, delay-laden drum hits and woozier chords, it's this version that has long been a favourite amongst collectors.

Review: Army of God's 'Salvation'' back in 2012 soon became a cult coldwave cut. It was the one and only release by the pair of Aroy Dee and Miss Jagroe... until now. More than ten years on they are back with 'Endless Skies' which is a new EP full of analogue warmth, signature synth designs and aching strings. Of course, Jagroe's unique voice features and brings extra allure to the beats. Aroy Dee steps up with an edit of the title cut and lays in some more form drums and pairs back the vocals to make things even darker. On the flip you'll find the throbbing bass and off-kilter keys of 'Fear the Night' with a dark version going even more into the shady unknown.

Review: Having been friends and occasional studio collaborators for the best part of a decade, M>O/S Recordings main man Aroy Dee (real name Steve Brunsmann) and Marc Antonio Spaventi can usually be relied upon to bring the goods. While Brunsmann is of course better known for analogue-rich deep techno, his outings with Spaventi usually explore the pair's mutual love of throbbing, synthesiser-powered Italo-disco. That's certainly the case with 'Sorrow', a mascara-clad slab of raw, arpeggio-driven new wave/Italo-disco fusion that comes topped off by a particularly stylish, half-sung, half-spoken lead vocal. Heavier and more breathless dancefloor thrills are supplied by the accompanying 'Space Dub', where the track's pulsating groove is ratcheted up to 11 and periodically submerged in sparkling deep space synths.

Review: A fascinating new slice of neue Deutsche welle from the artist Eine Welt. The track romanticizes the traditional Middle Eastern dish, Knafeh, through the lens of post-punkish electronics, German rawism, and myriad layering and production. The fact that an artist would go to such great pains to record, master, press and distribute a song with such a niche subject matter truly shows the power of Turkish cuisine. Clearly, even in back the '80s, there was mutual cultural appreciation between the Germans and the Turkish.

Here, they've unearthed another overlooked gem - Art Fine's previously rare-as-hen's-teeth dark Italo-disco gem 'Dark Silence'. It's pretty much a straight copy of the New Wave-inclined original, with the sparser, looser 'Long Version' joining the dense 'Art Fine Version'.

Review: The overdetermination of many sources of inspiration fed the making of this new EP by Asymmetrical (Giovanni Inglese), whose regular top-ups for the label have earned him his very own catalogue number reservation, this one coming as no exception. Said inspirations include: the digit 7, elevated to the status of Jim Carrey's number 23; a sticker glimpsed in a bathroom in a north-west Rome nightclub; and a long gestation of studio sessions, committed to between 2018 and 2020. The result was a slurrying EBM release of the coldest affect, consisting largely of all-consuming licky bass, mussitating monologues ('Estetica Della Notte' tells the tale of assuming nocturnal form while under the domed hoardings of Rome's famous Pantheon) and subtly vampiric overtones ('Porno Incubo').

Review: It's hard to straddle euphoric and dystopic, but Chilean producer Manuel Ortuzar aka Aural Trace has just about done it. The borders between new wave, electroclash and post-punk are all but shattered on their new EP 'Midnight Thoughts', wherein the artist finds it no great feat to inspire a sense of both tension and wonderment in the listener, through combinations of chuffy clap-whacks, quadruplet bass patterns, and an overall neon-drenched synthy style reminiscent of what might happen if William Friedkin directed a cyberpunk film.

Review: Axel Frey didn't make many records - though he did guest on a few - but he was responsible for a genuine underground classic, hard-to-find 1986 single 'Geronimo'. Here the song finally gets the reissue treatment, allowing us to once again wallow in its attractive late-night mix of bubbly, Euro-disco style sequenced synth-bass, metronomic machine drums, ultra-dreamy chords and jaunty melodies. The A-side vocal version is superb - proper soundscape, club-ready melancholic synth-pop - but it's the flipside 'Special Instrumental Mix' that really gets us going. Full of dub style delay effects, stripped-back groove sections and echoing synthesizer sounds, it's an undeniably Balearic chunk of European club fodder from a time when house music was only just beginning to emerge from the United States.

The special 7" marked Azzuro's debut on the label and takes inspiration from the 80s Library scene as much as gentle sunset dances on the Med. It manages to sound retro yet future, with its analogue synth waves and jazz-funk rhythms, catchy pop hooks and warm grooves. After the dance-y opener 'Agip,' comes a more zoned out and horizontal groove with 'Telefono Giallo' while 'Astrotensione' closes on another celestial ambient vibe.

Review: RECCOMENDED
Full marks for appropriate titles, it's always very enticing to see an EP packed with six different artists when those artists make music that wants to be noticed and differentiated. Here Underground Pacific has delivered a package oozing attitude and personality, but fully committed to the cold-synth wave ethos. Dark, gnarling, filthy, groovy, psychedelic, industrial, and more infectious than most, we challenge anyone to drop anything from this and not feel sexy and twisted.

Definitely one for fans of Manfredas, Kiara Scuro, Optimo and the like, while everything here was conceived in the same sonic womb, it really showcases how much can be done with one sound. The brooding and building chug of 'Soulside Twins', which is halfway between 1AM club weapon and a Bond theme lost at the disco, Alf Champion's electro-fused stepper, the subtly intensifying vibe of 'Manipulation' - exceptional.

Review: Berlin scene stalwart Ellen Allien has gone back to her early rave and harder techno roots in recent years. The label head, DJ and producer was there at the start of such scenes back in the early 90s and now there is a revival for that stuff she is best placed to do it with real authority. For this one she joins forces with Italian synth wave band Ash Code to cook up three tracks where Napoli meet Berlin, cold wave collides with techno and fresh new dancefloor magic happens. It's a dynamic sound world with jacked up drums, moody synths and icy vocals all arresting your every sense.
