Count On Me (original)
Count On Me (Andy C remix)
Review: Top five-smashing Baby D homage, "Count On Me" was, without argument, one of the biggest tunes of the summer 2013. In case it's not secured a sweet spot in your collection yet, here it is on Ram wax. The original is fuelled with pristine unashamed 90s vibes, all breakbeats and emphatic vocals, while Andy C takes us kicking and screaming back onto modern day dancefloors with his barn-storming D&B remix. A runaway success story of the year.

D'Funk - "Follow Me" (6:20)
Adam Collins & Mark Ambrose - "Modern Moule" (6:45)
D'Funk - "Break For Jungle" (6:01)
Mark Ambrose - "Machine Man" (5:58)
Review: Crayon take another trip into the realm of deep house with this split 12" from a range of talented individuals. D'Funk takes a little lick from Roy Ayers on "Follow Me" and frames the sample in spooky keys carried along by a sturdy four-to-the-floor thump. Adam Collins and Mark Ambrose get a bit freakier on "Modern Moule", using all kinds of oddball sounds to whip up a decidedly off-kilter mood. D'Funk's "Break For Jungle" takes a few cues from the hardcore continuum, and places them in the context of an uptempo house workout, and then Mark Ambrose completes the set with the amped up old-skool techno energy of "Machine Man".

Malice heads up the A1 side with an absolutely tearing d&b-influenced monster of a track called 'Go Insane', whilst Darkus keeps us bubbling along with 'Jah Know' - using a wicked vocal sample and bouncy beat and then switching on the last drop for a brilliantly dark and dirty finale! "Superbad" does exactly what it says on the tin, infused with funk breaks, horns, flute, sleazy guitar, fat bass and groovy organs. Is That A Gameboy Or A Cellphone
Pillow Filter (Insectoid Inversion)
Review: Following his recent release as half of the Diskchordians, plenty of tech house releases on Palette Recordings and Trapez, remixes for Dominik Eulberg, Mossa and Sweet 'n' Candy, Volsoc's Justin Maxwell releases another nastied-up terror-ific electro smasher, full of carefully sculpted sounds and DSP wizardry. The A-Side "Pillow Filter" is a series of thick, ascending constructs of bass movement and textured percussion, with a sharp, deep kick keeping it all together. It begins with repeated mechanical rhythm, blooping percussion and detuned springy sounds. A mean, distorted bass line melody comes in and maintains this groove for the next minute or so, before all the energy releases into huge counterpoint bass whoops and even more layers of percussion, twisting and turning through the next six minutes. The first of the B-Side is an exercise in sound design. There's a tough beat going the whole time, but the constantly modulating pads and swoops, garbled demonic synths, bass drops, 16th note staccato jabs and robotic loops take centre stage. Unlike the other two tracks on the EP, which are perfect for the dancefloor, this one is a bit more for places where inanimate objects talk to you. While the A-side is relentlessly thick, B2, Pillow Filter (The Insectoid Inversion mix) - takes all the swoops and sweeps of the other mix, strips out 75% of the drums, adds a kick only 18" subs in an intergalactic low-rider can properly reproduce, throws in a hacked up 1950's TV commercial melody, and focuses more on the individual sounds.

Feathers
Feathers (James Talk remix)
Feathers (Marco Bailey remix)
Feathers (Radioactive Man remix)
Review: When tech-funk pioneer Meat Katie teams up with bassline terrorists Aquasky the results are always going to be unique. Taken from Marks 'Vibrator' long player, 'Feathers' is the follow up to last years genre-busting smash 'Overneath'. Stick the original mix on and you'll find you are transformed into a little bit of controlled madness!! The boys have got together to bring you another unique offering, yet no one can accuse them of turning in 'Overneath Part 2'. Instead we have a dirty stripped back groove that sits comfortably on the fence between house & breaks. Next up is Belgium born techno legend Marco Bailey, who rolls out some heavy peak time business, a jackin & driving slice of techno (with a healthy dose of funk thrown in). Last but certainly not least, Keith Tenniswood's (Radioactive Man) warped and quite frankly, bizarre remix of 'Feathers' has a more delicate feel than what we had originally expected but this subtle take on the original still has the balls to morph the riff into something close to jelly and simplify the groove even more.

Review: "Transformers Volume One" is a release to satisfy the geek in all of us. The a-side opens with the well known theme taken from the original 1986 movie, before dropping into a hip-hop fuelled intro and evolving into a dancefloor smasher of "Prime" proportions. Flip it over for the darker mix. Erie pads and irking bleeps build up to an inferno of frenzied beats and bass creating a barrage of sound. Both tracks are transforming winners.

Work On U (Koma & Bones mix)
Review: For Burrito's 10th release we've gone for a double header from one of our favourite artists Metric, aka Alex Drury, who is going from strength to strength in his fledgling career & shows no sign of letting up. Whether it be breaks or 4/4 he delivers the goods, on Burrito & other labels such as Adrift & Lot 49. Here we have two 4/4 trax from Alex, the first of which is a lesson in phat 4/4 bass action! Fans of Trentemoller & the so-called electro sound will love this with its glitchy electro bass pushed to the max & tight beats. The 2nd of this 2-tracker is a remix of another Metric track, "Work On U", from Koma & Bones (of course!) who add their always interesting edge to proceedings - a tech/acid/electro-house hybrid, like only they know how!! "Enjoying the burrito sound" - Hybrid, "Played Koma & Bones mix on Radio One" - Fergie, "Radio play on Strongarm Sessions" - Elite Force, "Radio play for Metric's Forget It All" - Crystal Method, "Yes I've played it on the show twice, down @ Supercharged and currently hammering it on my tour in china. So please continue sending me stuff it is much appreciated" - Anne Savage, "4/4 action all over the place, Both K & B and Metric track are the fuckin biz, I'm really goin this way, with the show and playing out, Gonna rinse both these out, Ministry on July 29th will be a great test! 9/10 for both, keep em coming!" - Andy Durrant, "Two thumbs up!" - David Ekenback, "This is the bomb! Played it on last weeks radio show and had everybody asking about it and also at last weeks SUMO (Friday) where it went off." - Jamie Flukes (Dead Famous), "Like the Metric original, solid chunky stuff that rocks! will play on Radio show" - Steve Parry (Juice FM).

Review: Taken from his four track digital debut for the London mega-label, "Distant Shores" is a rushy, star-gazing tingler that builds beautifully with strings and unashamed euphoria. A classic tear-jerk technique showcased by Nu:Tone, High Contrast, Danny Byrd and London Elektricity (to name but a few), when emphatic D&B is done with this level of full-bodied cinematic glory, it really can't be faulted. "Solar" is equally impressive; armed with a much beefier saw tooth bass but just as much vibrancy and feel good vibes, this is going to see a lot of action at the festivals this summer.

Review: Milke's "She Says" has already picked up multiple plays from Pete Tong, Zane Lowe, Annie Nightingale and Annie Mac and is a stronger contender for Radio 1 playlist. It has appeared in the Music Week playlist and was a Top 3 in both the DMC Buzz chart and Music Week Coolcuts. It has received "Essential Leftfield Tune" in Update, outstanding reviews in IDJ and the band have been featured in DJ magazine. This is an anthemic vocal cut with a truly infectious vocal and soaring filter synth line and to compliment the original there are remixes from Lee Coombs, Wahoo and Merka with a further mix (or two) on the way. Supported by Pete Tong, Zane Lowe, Annie Nightingale, Annie Mac, Touche, Smokin Jo, Rob da Bank, Tayo, Josh Wink, Ricky Stone, Plump DJs, Kid Kenobi, Anthony Pappa, DJ Icey, Madox, Jay Cunning, Crystal Methos, Janette Slack, Luvdup, Freeform 5, Deeper Substance.
