Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. B Love, Rokko, Mathijs Smit and Herra come through for their latest V/A here, each with their own unique style and flavour to the four-way table - whether they work in deep house, techno, or the cheekier side of speed-garage-ambient. Review: Deeper shades of a finely sifted pedigree. Irish label Appian Sounds, helmed up by Al Blayney, champion only winnowed techno sounds, not threshed. A welcome international team huddle in, with these six artists from locales as far-flung as Amsterdam and Valencia contributing the likes of 'Tsuneo' and 'Persist'. The tunes verge melodic as they move through and beyond jankiness, distending die-cut acids and subtly synthetic humanisations, especially in the percussion department. 'Fuego' is the zen roshi's choice, its gaffered, glass-smithed pads topping off a naturalistic percussive surging forward, one best experienced with your eyes closed.

Review: Hot Creations has now put out well over 225 records, which is no mean feat, but even more impressive is that it still very much sets the conversation for a certain section of the house world. This new EP pairs off Beltran with Harry Valencia and offers some interesting fusions of tribal, Latin, house and tech. There is a wonky feel to opener 'Origins' (3AM Tusi mix) with its characterful vocal chants and percussive grooves, while Beltran's solo cut 'Tira A Roupa' (feat Mc Jajau - Putaria mix) has a Spanish feel and a fat bass guitar riff that brings rubbery funk to the crisp tech drums. Last of all, Harvy Valencia goes it alone on closer 'Brut' which is more steamy and sweaty and ready for some sun-kissed open-air deployment.

Deep House
Review: Native Soul Recordings has been around a long old time in dance music terms and now it looks back over some of its finest works with this first in a new series of Best Of comps. Music writer Harold Heath is first up with 'Slipstream,' an effortless smooth late-night house cut with introspective chords and silky pads bringing real depth. The Candy Dealers get more lithe and elastic with the spraying bass and jumbled percussive house of 'Train Of Thought' and last of all, Asad Rizvi remixes Jevne's 'Moderize' with a funky little bassline and chord vamps that keep you on edge. A tasteful package of timeless house grooves.

If you are one of those people then get your ears around this superb new various artists 12". YokoO & Zone+ offer one of the standouts with 'Once I Had It"]' which pairs subtly swirling pads with cuddly deep drum loops. Hermanez has his kickstand with a little more weight but they are no less hypnotic, while Moya (US) brings some enchanting strings and yawning vocals to 'Meliora' and Electricano keeps it nice and warm and liquid with the supple loops of 'Universal Language.'

Review: Anthony Georges Patrice's Ausblick label has trod a fine path over the course of its first five releases and the good work continues on its sixth outing which is a new various artists affair. It is Berlin based Ephem who kicks off with 'Dizzy' and all its bumpy beast and raw perc, then Koln's Hidden Sequence follows with 'Optical Drive' that is more stripped back and powered by warming sub bass. Anthony Georges Patrice himself then completes the hat trick with 'Easy To Love' (Tunnel Vision Mix) which over ten sublime minutes brings some more airy, double doit flavoured and has already been getting plays from Mosaic boss Steve O'Sullivan.

Review: Fabio Caria launches his new label, Hoops, as a means to explore the intersection of house and techno through a minimalist lens. The debut release is a collaboration with Hubble under the moniker Fabble and it's a fine one with three meticulously crafted tracks that manage to perfectly balance compelling rhythms with plenty of synth-based introspection. 'Catharsis' introduces a three-note Rhodes piano sequence with flowing pads and psychedelic synths and 'Donald' offers a steady 4/4 beat with sombre pads and powerful sub-bass. 'Persignis' with Italian legend Claudio PRC is the most dancefloor-driven with processed pianos creating an emotional mood and in all, this EP sets a nice high watermark for the Hoops label.

Review: Fazack, Not Even Noticed, NairLess and Henrik Villard battle it out on the fourth Terrazzo disc, unleashing a contagious arsenal of acid and proggy tech house in the process. Review: Curtea Veche's LTD series returns with a heavyweight collaboration from west coast house pioneers Hipp-E and Halo Varga, better known as H-Foundation. Their early 00s productions helped define a distinct, groove-laden style that still reverberates in today's underground house scene. This latest release sees them tap into that timeless sound, delivering an EP that feels both nostalgic and fresh. Opening with 'Believe,' H-Foundation remind us of their signature deep, rolling basslines and hypnotic rhythms. Review: Numinous Records is a brand new label that makes an impressive bow here with a first release offering up five tracks from Halbert who hails from "the depths of Mallorca." 'I Miss You Baby' is a dark and twisted tech house opener with twanging guitars and sleazy bass. 'Sondido Canvas' is a freewheeling kaleidoscope of melodic colours and 'Special Quest' is splashy cymbals and woodpecker synths over broken beats. Two more cuts continue the leftfield theme and inventive rhythms and suggest this is going to be a rather special label.

Review: Halvtrak is hardly prolific - this EP is just his fourth solo vinyl outing in a decade - but what he does release is invariably excellent. The Finnish producer's trademark sound is rooted in the past, referencing British breakbeats, ambient techno, bleep, Motor City futurism and Chicago house, but always sounds fresh, pleasingly melodic and analogue rich. Opener 'X-Pressed' is probably the most peak-time ready of the strong bunch of tracks on show, with glassy-eyed chords and spacey melodies riding a thrusting bassline and sweaty breakbeats, though the house-tempo melodic techno strut of 'Rhythm Overture' pushes it close. Elsewhere, 'Phase Distorshun' is a more angular, deeper and lo-fi techno excursion, while 'Doubt' sounds like a cross between deep bleep minimalism and hypnotic, mid-90s Detroit techno.

Review: Hamatsuki and DJ Astrobee have the honour of being the first artists to release on the newly formed Summoning label. They take one side each with Hamatsuki's 'Nemolizubam' licking off with some intense, synth-laden techno that is lithe and dynamic as it unfolds. 'Whitecap' is more textured and riddled with bleeping synths and tumbling melodic rain. DJ Astrobee gets dubby with 'Oslo' which has warped synth smears and snappy kick and clap combos. His second offering 'Mother Sun' is a richly emotive techno sound that oozes hi-tek soul.

Review: Hame channels plenty of chasing personal circumstances and the 'tumultuous journey' of life in this new album Almost Home. It's inspired by the idea of 'filling the room with heartfelt sounds' and sure does that. Standout opener 'Tears' actual features the real sound of someone sobbing which has then been used as a rhythmic element that adds a very real emotional touch. Other deft deep house cuts include 'Unexpected Night' with its rolling drums and zoned-out pads, the jostling broken beats of 'Sand' and the tender piano interlude of 'Little Lonely Moment' which brings a great sense of vulnerability.

Review: Mysticisms continues its global search for amazing music, hitting gold again with an EP of four previously unreleased house meets IDM with a dreamy edges by Romania's HAN aka Dan Handrabur, culled from early studio recordings between 1991-95. After getting into record store culture he began building a studio and eventually gave up studying in favour of production, relocated to Vancouver, Canada, where his debut release (as X Drone with Adham Shaikh in 1993) began to establish Handrabur's role as an integral part its electronic scene. Appearances with Harthouse, Exist Dance, Eye Q Records and many more followed, plus collaborations with the legendary Phil Western. The four tracks here haven't aged at all, with nimble beats, action-packed arrangements and dreamy atmospheres, 'Give In & Resist' coming on like Rising High-era Mixmaster Morris crossed with the playfulness of Air Liquide, and 'Phantasme' revelling in the same cross-rhythmic fun that informed The Black Dog's classics.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Burnski's superb Pilot label is back with more club-ready gold and this one is from Hatori Hanso. He opens up by covering the gorgeously deep and soul enriching sounds of a Pepe Bradock classic but reworks the pads into a more thumping breakbeat rhythm. 'My Chorus' is a soft acid delight with surging breaks heading off into the cosmos and 'I'm A Taker' then has a squelchy bassline to die for that dances about between snappy snares and lively kick drums. 'Kraulen' shuts down with some boogie energy, radiant chords and more crispy drum patterns for good time fun.

Review: Echoes of Glory serves up a second helping with the assistance of Hardway Brothers and Masonic Noodles aka Sean Johnston and label founder Grant Dell. 'Escape On The Midnight Express' gets two tidy tech house versions with distinct flavours which should appeal to those who like their 4/4 grooves tripped-out and headsy. The Hardway Bros version is a pneumatic, boxy workout swathed in dub and rolling slow and steady for the warm-up crowd, while Dell's Masonic Noodles interpretation takes a sparser approach sprinkled with mystical synth motifs to send a chill through the dance.

Review: Rupert Hartick made quite an impression with his debut release on Pleasure Zone in 2022, and the eagle-eared out there might have copped his drop on Konfus last year. Now he's graduated to the unstoppable Rawax with a four-tracker of sophisticated tech house for the discerning dancer. 'Sweet Dreams' has a meandering, hallucinatory quality helped no end by the amorphous synth tones shimmering over the top of the slinky, shuffling beat. 'Wiggle System' is an entirely different proposition marked out by snaking electro with a mellow demeanour. 'Smokin Kims' is also electro in its construction, but there's a very different flavour to the synths, which warp and writhe through some exquisite sound design. 'Leftback' maintains the thoughtful, original approach Hartick takes across the release, all while offering a different slant to his productions focused more on brittle percussion and FX tweaking.

Review: Tokyo-based independent label Infodump follows up its inaugural EP with a new release from owner Takuro Hasumi. 'Ticktack' opens his account with lithe, droning synth lines which are layered up next to organic percussion and dark bass energy that keeps you on edge. 'Wilderness' then flips the script with a much more bright and trippy melodic mix over minimal drums and last of all is 'The Fall'. This one is another intriguing mix of silvery synth shimmers and stripped-back drum programming that locks you in the moment. The fresh EP comes with fresh artwork from Japanese outsider artist Pinksk.

Review: A new label out of Mexico, Short Attention Records launches its second release with a five track offering of proper melodic house & techno from Hector Ram with the word 'quality' stamped large upon them. 'Midnight Sounds' starts things off with the grand rhythmically-building 'Midnight Sounds', almost New Order-esque at times. 'For Our Small Parties' follows, old skool again in flavour, blending subtly employed breaks and a sturdy house framework, then 'Dear Dancefloor', probably the gentlest and most fragile effort here, opens side two. 'On The Road' boasts a more electro feel and Orbital-esque synths, and is deemed worthy of a second airing via a nicely throbbing remix from Detroit's Generation Next closing proceedings.

Review: Brooklyn-based Malik Hendricks does a fine line in raw, deep but visceral house sounds that cannot fail to make an impact both physically and emotionally. He has done so on the likes of Bliss Point, Coloring Lessons and Darker Than Wax before now and here arrives on People Of Earth with more compelling cuts. 'Move On Up' is a steamy and sweaty house thumper with impassioned vocal swirls, 'All Mine' layers in some heavenly melodies that manage to uplift the mood in a subtle fashion and 'Feeling Like Larry' references the great Mr Heard, surely, with its balmy cosmic pads and spiritual house depths. 'The Way' (feat Tane) is licked with acoustic guitar riffs that bring to mind open-air dancing by the Med.

Review: Oslo-based Det Gode Selskab, like many labels from the Scandi-region, has its own distinctive take on house - it's lush, melody-rich and cosmic with plenty of dynamic drum work. Berlin-based Norwegian Henriku is next up to bring his own sounds into their world, and this atmospheric house and minimal exploration is hella impressive. 'I Do' works the floor into a steamy and hot house lather, 'Rush Fantasy' then gets a little twisted and freaky for later in the night and 'Pillow Talk' leans into a dusty Detroit house vibe. 'Nicotine 4 U' might be the best of the lot - a fluid bit of afterparty house with irresistible drums and warped neon lines.

Review: A couple of years back, the revitalised Hooj Choons label released an album of orchestra-sporting covers of classic dance cuts of the 1990s under the HEO: Hooj Ensemble Orchestra tag, then got rave revivalists Borai and Denham Audio to remix their new version of trance classic 'Cafe Del Mar'. Here those mixes - a frankly filthy, bass-propelled 'Rave Booty' mix and a more acid-flecked, grandiose breakdown-sporting 'Pluck Dub' - finally make it onto wax, alongside the Club Glow duo's similarly previously digital-only reworks of Transformer 2's early 90s 'Hooj' classic 'Fruit of Love'. More tactile and loved up, with tactile bass, pleasing pianos and glassy-eyed vocal snippets, the pair's 'Redux' mix is simply sublime, while Borai's solo dub is a deliciously dreamy, rush-inducing affair that sounds like a future rave classic.

Review: Luke Hess delivered a stunning, dub techno masterclass with this rather unexpected gem on the FXHE label back in 2017 with fellow Motor City great Omar S on production. The superb title track opens with shimmering dub chords and hypnotic rhythms that evolve slowly but powerfully. 'Renewal' offers a more direct approach by channelling the spirit of Brendon Moeller's Beat Pharmacy. On the flip, 'Sacred' strips things back with a staggered groove, airy pads and a one-note bassline circling deep into the night. Review: Hidden Sequence have appeared on legendary dub techno label Mosaic in fine form of late and now they land on the Lempuyang imprint with four more serene fusions. Their Theories of Time EP opens up with the swaggering dub rhythms and bottomless depths of 'Distortion', a cut as heady as they come. 'Travelling,' as the title suggests, has a deeper rolling groove and more movement to it as it snakes through underwater dub caverns. Flip it over for more widescreen and serene explorations of the ocean floor with 'Shift' and mysterious leads of 'Delay' which is a fourth and final frictionless dub dream.

Review: Fresh from delivering a solid three-tracker on Drum Chums, Hidden Spheres returns to Rhythm Section International with what could be his most expansive and hard-to-pigeonhole EP to date. The Manchester producer excels on the A-side with 'Tanzen', a pleasingly nostalgic, warehouse-ready affair available in two distinctive forms: the breezy piano-sporting, summery, analogue-rich deep house gem that is the spine-tingling club mix, and the sweat-soaked, sub-heavy jack-track that is the 'Mate mix'. Elsewhere, he opts for weighty sub-bass, looped stabs and vintage turn-of-the-90s deep house vibes on 'Mind Over Mate' and reaches for sparse electro-not-electro beats on the late '80s early morning brilliance of 'Not Of This World'. Review: This one hits like a love letter to the raw energy of early warehouse nights. From a UK producer who's been around the block more than a few times, the EP drips with old skool DNA but never feels like a copy-paste job. It's gritty, sweaty and awesome. 'Moved (part 2)' kicks things off with a pounding rhythm and a melody that instantly pulls from the golden age of rave. There's something serious in its tone, dramatic even, with a warped vocal sample urging you to move. Think late nights with strobe lights, where records like 'Energy Flash' or 'Testone' were gospel. 'What Is Houz' flips the mood but keeps the intensity. This one rides a low, tracky groove, dipping into minimal and funky acid touches that feel tailor-made for a dark room dancefloor. Turn the record over and you're tossed straight into the breakbeat jungle with 'Satisfaction'. It's all rattling drums, big vocals and classic rave swagger. No subtlety here, just full-throttle. 'The Prowl' closes things out on a moodier note, with acid lines creeping through a dark, melodic structure that echoes vintage Belgium techno. It's the sound of someone who's been through every era and still knows how to light the fuse. This isnt a copy cat trip down memory lane. This really makes you feel like a movement could happen again with these vintage sounds.

Review: Remarkably, 13 months have now passed since Just Waxx debuted via a pleasingly nostalgic, early Motor City techno-inspired EP from Terms. This belated follow-up is undoubtedly long overdue. It comes from the mysterious Hitch, who deftly showcases his, her or their love of raw analogue lead lines, classic drum machine beats, trippy TB-303 motifs and driving bass on throbbing opener 'Gran Torino'. Belgian rave king Innershades remixes, delivering a more 'straight' retro-futurist techno take. Review: Despite having been on a journey in music that has lasted two decades, Honeydrop shows with this very welcome return to the scene that they very much have still got the skills to pay the bills. This most classy of EPs opens with 'That's What', a dreamy minimal house cut with exquisite pads bringing the cosmic feels. 'Can You Please' has a nice skip to the kicks and molten chord work then 'Do What' picks up the pace a little but never sacrifices the gorgeous, deft synth details that make these tunes such works of art. 'Lapadub' closes down in more marching but still serene tech house fashion. An incredible return for Honeydrop.

Review: Vokabularium's Denis Horvat returns with another contribution to his very own label. 'Marlou' is a densely textured four-tracker of deep and minimal movers, several of which push the boundaries of the genre with abrasive sounds and vocal experiments from singer Lilli Ellen. The arpy and metallic 'Poudrextase' is a case in point of this abrasion, with its juddering leads made to harmonise still with the otherwise dreamy backings. Meanwhile, 'Corpalium' and 'Celebration' move slower, allowing for Ellen's vocals to burgeon and brood over the mix in an extended fashion.

Review: On his first release of any sort since dropping his debut album, 'The Serve of the Abnormal', last year, Denis Horvat makes his bow on Afterlife with an EP that drags tech-house and minimal house in dark, trippy new directions. For proof, check opener 'Cha Cha', a menacing, EBM-influenced affair that peppers a chugging, early morning groove with rising and falling lead lines, creepy counter melodies and rasping, trance style stabs. The EP's inherent sense of clandestine atmosphere comes to the fore once more on shuffling, moody vocal number 'Precious Unica', before the Copenhagen-based producer opts for a more forthright darkwave meets-peak-time-tech-house flex on 'Momentum of the Arapaima'. Closing cut 'Majstor', meanwhile, is an incredibly trippy, K-hole trance number underpinned by a wonky triple-time beat.

The title track moves snakily, through watery grain-echoed synth plucks and brimming background pads, as Ellen pleas for understanding despite a newfound sense of determination in who she is. ‘Gone’, meanwhile, prefers a more plodding abstraction, held together firmly by a three-note stab.

Review: NEM 100.1 Vol 1 isn't your standard deep house compilation. With heavyweight contributors like Danny Howard, Nicole Moudaber, and Armand Van Helden, this release feels like a meeting of minds with a shared purpose: to push familiar boundaries into unexpected places. Danny Howard and Eli & Fur's If You Were sets the tone with a blend of understated house rhythms and finely layered vocals. There's nothing overblown here - it's precise, refined, and confident in its restraint. PAX and Rui Da Silva's Touch Me follows, reviving the iconic anthem with modern production sensibilities. The track is driven by its deep, chugging bassline and stabs of melody that feel like a nod to the original, but also refreshing in their approach. Nicole Moudaber brings a more atmospheric element to the fold with Rise Up, featuring the London Community Gospel Choir. It's expansive, combining gospel depth with Moudaber's signature techno edge, resulting in a track that demands attention without feeling heavy-handed. Closing things out is Armand Van Helden and Mark Knight's Down to Earthia production that melds classic house tropes with a contemporary spin. Its punchy, syncopated rhythm and laid-back groove avoid the typical tropes, instead offering something warm, slightly off-kilter, and entirely captivating. Review: Hastings-born prog/tech veteran Danny Howells' latest foray into the world of house music proves once again why he's a staple of the scene. Lead track 'Powershow' is a sprawling 12-minute exploration that encapsulates everything great about houseideep, soulful, yet endlessly driving. Following that is 'Stereodrama,' which shifts gears slightly, upping the ante with a raucous, percussive workout. It's a perfect reflection of Howells' deft touch for crafting emotionally resonant yet unrelentingly danceable moments. Finally, there's 'Earthlings X,' a track that might have been created years ago but still feels entirely of the moment. Despite being Danny's first release for Selador, it's aged like fine wineiits ever-present freshness matching its ability to still sound like a future classic. It's the kind of cut that seems to embody everything Howells stands for, the perfect intersection of intelligence, energy, and soul. Sounding both timeless and cutting-edge this is another feather in his already many-feathered cap.

Review: Swiss label Creaked has decided to give over a full 12" to remixes of HRDVISION's 'Captivated Heart' and the results are varied and impressive. It is the cultured electronica of Nathan Fake that kicks things off with some widescreen synth drones, She Spells Doom then brings some twitchy tech house and Shanx goes for something laced with alien effects, gurgling synths and swampy beats. Efemme brings some acid laced minimal funk and Sinistarr brings compelling broken rhythms and icy urban metropolis vibes. HRDVISION himself also steps up with a Hrdvsiovsiivosvsiosvin remix to close out in mad fashion.

Review: Two enigmatic raw deep house cuts from Gene Hughes aka. Bluemoon Productions, debuting for HotMix for the first time. Technically first released in 1990 via Code Blue, this remastered vinyl edition is as pure a slice of otherworldly house realness you can get. The mood throughout is nocturnal, fade-to-black, lamplit, verging on wild - opener 'D' is darkly jazz-chorded and peppered throughout with the sound of hyenas cackling, as if to suggest a nighttime jamboree at the edge of civilization; then there's the Latin guitar glidings-above of 'R' and the beautifully, unusually wompy drumwork-dreamwork of 'A'; and finally, closer 'S' takes the form of a sonic flex: the slowest breakbeat track we've encountered in a while, whose choppy slices, feel-it vocals and deep Reeses force us to consider our unconscious associations around bassweight and floor-readiness.

Review: In response to reports of 'Discogs sharks' prowling around this deep house classic from Gene Hughes, HotMix have gone ahead and reissued the eureka moment that is 'Track Show (Volume One)'. Paring things back to their barest bones, the early-nineties nuage and prolific house artist, whose other monikers included Rawthenticity and Bluejeans, first released this six-tracker under the name Bluemoon Prodiuctions in 1990 via Code Blue. The first track might be deceptive to some, as its simplistic production is arguably the least endearing of the bunch, combining only a kick drum, bassline, pluck and stream train whistle; tracks two 'O' and 'U' quickly unravel these assumptions with a beautiful dyadic take on Italo and stringy-deep house respectively. Meanwhile, on the B-sider 'S', we're met with an early example of lo-fi house, while an angsty electro mood is heard on 'E; a final coup de grace is then delivered on the crepuscular piano highlight, 'Night', which strikes the perfect thematic balance between sexiness and misery.
