Review: Peaky Beats is a great name for a label that serves up such irresistible house and garage jams as it has so far over its first eight EPs. This ninth outing is no less desirable, coming from the in house production team in collaboration with Breakfake. 'Life In Stereo' hits a perfect note between kinetic drums and soulful, jazzy chords deigned to melt the heart. 'Rat City' is more filthy - a warped bassline screws about beneath more sleazy broken beats. 'Chapel Town' brings low end dubstep wobble to the party and 'Dub The Acid' is another filthy dirty skanker with echoing hits and mutant bass.

Review: Apocalypto! Foreign Beggar PAV4N lays down some hard hitting truths with the hard hitting Truth and the results are sizzling in moody futurist fusion. 'Brave New World' (with Saskilla) marches us slap bang into the middle of a 23rd century war, 'Pythons' slithers with so much attitude you can feel squeezing you, softening you up for Pav's lunchtime treat. 'Online Overdose' (with Ashez) hurls us into a neon swing, pinging through the arpeggiated sci-fi swagger before 'Pyrex Jackie' goes straight up Universal Soldier. Metal jacket tackle.

Review: The Vivid label is yet another one from Burnski who also runs Constant Blanc and Instinct. He is s single handed garage hit making machine and he knows how to tap into the next gen, too. Here he calls upon Peaky Beats for a naughty and nasty three track affair that has retro feels but contemporary style. 'Can't Stop' opens up with a 2-step shuffle and steely hits, then 'Get Ready' gets more free and melodic with some boxing little melodic patterns and oscillating bass. Last of all is the most menacing and dark - 'Wildcat' flips into a dub wise swagger mid-way through that is going to blow up the clubs.

Review: After over 15 years and 60+ vinyl releases, Pugilist launches his own label, Ruff Kutz, with the debut EP Monumen laying out his diverse production style and melding of techno, dubstep and 2-step influences. The A-side title track delivers a 10-minute journey of soulful techno drenched in dubby chords, Latin percussion and melancholic pads. On the B-side, 'Mannequin' offers a laid-back half-stepper with staccato sub bass and delicate chords, while 'Run It' presents a hazy 2-step groove with hypnotic bass and off-kilter rhythms. This new imprint marks a significant step in Pugilist's career and is likely to reflect his subtle and ever-shifting evolution as well as a commitment to quality, not quantity.
