Lead track "Juju" takes its name from the French word joujou, and refers to the supernatural power ascribed to an object or being, and on this occasion it seems the producer is referring to the hypnotic power of a woman. Review: The See-Saw label calls up a hit list of disco edit dynamos to bring a little party rocking magic to their latest 12", leading in with the looped up funk of Hotmood. 'Seductive Look' is the perfect insistent groove to get lost in, which contrasts with the bold and feisty 'Time To Move' by C Da Afro. Keeping things mixed up on the B side, Ziggy Phunk brings something special in the pattering, bongo-laden roller 'Space Ranger'. Alexny rounds things off with the low slung thwack and transcendent sax of 'Umbele', a track humming with the energy of Afrobeat at its source.

Review: The first of two vinyl samplers that act as accoutrements to the Defected main course that is Tensnake's In The House mix. Naturally Niemerski's "Coma Cat" is here and everyone has heard it or seen the questionable video so there's no need to discuss that. It should be noted that the track is without doubt the crossover hit of the year though. It's complemented on the A Side by the satisfying deep acid bump of Zev's "Don't Break It" as remixed by Messrs Glasgow and White aka Art Department. The brushed warm tones of Mount Kimbie's "Carbonated" open proceedings on the flip whilst the inclusion of the reverberant acid flux of Armando's epic "Don't Take It" is further proof of Niemerski's old school credentials. Top 12".

Review: Already an early contender for the hottest tune of 2006, "Edge Of Space" is the stunning next single from Zirenz to follow up the massively received "Utopia". Review: Brazilian producer Zopelar brings oodles of South Hemisphere sunshine to his splendid debut outing on Mother Tongue Records. Theer is so much goodness packed into his 7" its a surprise they didn't have to make it 12"s. 'Entre Viagens' is a languid dance with nimble percussion, sun worshiping synths and jazzy broken beats that keep you on your feet. 'Vista' is high class space funk with rugged analogue textures, crispy hits and plenty of Detroit electro funk stylings in the drums. It's a perfect meeting of Brazil, London and the Midwest.

Review: Zepherin shows off some different sides to his sound with one tune offering up what he does best and is well known for and one a classic remake of and already brilliant source tune by Leo Sunshipp. 'Give Me The Sunshine' is that exquisite eight-minute make over and it features help from rising US talent Russell Taylor and is a sunny kissed, drawn out and majestic jazz funk and disco fusion. Taylor also features on the A-side 'Ain't Gonna Do You Wrong' which is all big horns and elastic house bass. Two red hot gems.

Review: ZHU is something of an album specialist. This latest full-length, Grace, represents his fourth overall and is a rather special triple vinyl affair on heavyweight wax. It comes some two and a half years after his last back in December 2021 and arrives once more via Astralwerks. The GRAMMYr-nominated artist has revealed that he recorded most of this one in his hometown of San Francisco at the celebrated Grace Cathedral, which is where it gets its name. He also worked with others at points, including Devault and BabyJake on his first album single 'Revelations'. This one has already performed well and claimed a spot on Rolling Stone's list of "All The Songs You Need To Know This Week" upon release.
