Louca (4:31)
El Es (5:50)
Skittles (6:11)
Review: Aussie producer Jarred Beeler aka DJ Plead returns to Livity Sound with the Quick EP. On the first side, you've got the contorted yet playful groove of 'Come Quick' and its nice steel drum melody, followed by the woozy cut 'Louca' taking you deep into mystical realms. Over on the flip, there's a dubby and slow burning stepper in the form of 'El Es' getting you into a deep medi state of mind, followed by the sublime 'Skittles' with its subtle bass pulsations underpinning a rich tapestry of melodic sequences.

RT6 (6:53)
Review: A very special set right here from Melbourne's DJ Plead for Boomkat's Editions series. Relentless Trills is a loosely woven menu of beats that dig into Plead's own heritage but also his love for dancehall, dub and hip-hop. All named by number in true beatmaker fashion, the focus is on the scenery each cut sets as we gently duck and dive from the subverted ESG-style basslines and eastern horns of 'RT1' and Saharan march of 'RT2' to the heavier Timbaland-reminiscent beats of 'RT5' or the dreamier delights of the decaying euphoria and ambient nature of the finale 'RT6'. Relentlessly good.

Going For It (5:07)
Rough Text (5:06)
Espresso (5:51)
Ess (4:56)
Review: DJ Plead (real name Jared Beeler) has won plenty of praise for his EPs to date, and especially his recent hook-up with Anunaku on AD 93 (the imprint formerly known as Whities). It's likely that critics will purr about this Livity Sound debut, too, because it's really rather good. Over the course of four tracks, the Melbourne man confidently strides between ultra-percussive, polyrhythmic techno brilliance (the Joe Clausell-meets-Kowton flex of 'Going For It'), bustling broken techno weightiness ('Rough Text'), bass-heavy business built around Stomp-style pots-and-pans percussion (the seductively sweaty and energetic 'Espresso'), and synth and guitar-fired, loose-limbed bounciness (the impossible to pigeonhole 'Ess').

Liquify (5:45)
Shoulder Pop (4:40)
Crush & Burn (4:37)
Review: Melbourne beat fusionist DJ Plead taps deep into his Lebanese roots for this truly body blowing middle eastern infused bass EP. Six tracks of fractured, freeform fun, you're spoilt for choice here. The spasmodic breakbeat freakery of "Salt And Pepper", the rolling momentum and molten hypnotic percussive layers of "Liquify", the rattling drums and staccato flare of "Shoulder Pop" and the strange blend of turbo focus but offbeat funk of "Baharat" are just some of the instantly hip-switching highlights. Essential.

Breakbeat
Studio Pressure (7:17)
Studio Release (4:39)
Studio Pleasure (6:35)
Studio Relief (5:27)
Review: OK Spirit's latest admirable - and hugely entertaining - release sees label co-founder DJ Neewt join forces with fellow off-kilter club cuts specialists Plead and DJ Slyngshot. Ignore the tongue-in-cheek EP title, because the four tracks on offer are pleasingly wild, weird, intoxicating and packed with brilliant ideas. They hit the mark with opener 'Studio Pressure', a breakbeat-driven hallucinatory trip full of effects-laden electronics, mutant sub-bass and trippy ambient techno melodies, before opting for a much more intergalactic and dubbed-out flex on the SW-esque 'Studio Release'. 'Studio Pleasure' is a rolling chunk of bouncy, hot-stepping techno/bass music fusion, while 'Studio Release' is a manic slab of flute-sporting, shroom-fuelled jungle insanity.

Techno
Celestial (6:47)
Read Wrong (8:24)
Round Echoes (4:46)
Review: DJ Plead & rRoxymore make for a fascinating duo and take aim squarely at the floor on this new outing, Read Round City, for Smalltown Supersound. Opener 'Celestial' is a loose-limbed rhythmic jumble with hand claps, trippy xylophone patterns and deep bass that lulls you into a trance while 'Read Wrong' is a more reggaeton-inspired sound with snappy snares and warped synth sounds. It's gluey and gloopy and subtly colourful. 'Round Echoes' is a third and final cross blend of techno, dub and house that picks up the pace and heads off into the cosmos but retains an organic feel thanks to the marvellous wet hand claps.

Triple It (5:00)
Swanky (5:04)
Gallop (4:56)
Breath Work (4:35)
Twos & Fours (4:46)
Review: AD 93 is fast approaching a century of releases and helping them on their way is this fresh 12" from TSVI and DJ Plead. It brings plenty of bouncy to the party with elastic opener 'Triple It' layering up big kicks and hits with playful bass. 'Swanky' is another blend of Afro rhythms and UK funky, fizzing synths and heavy bass and 'Gallop' picks up the pace with a more lithe and loopy groove. 'Breath Work' flips the script with Eastern string melodies and percussive beats and 'Twos & Fours' is a fourth and final fantastically inventive sound that will stand out in any set for all the right reasons.
