Agonis - "Black Swans" (5:02)
Konduku - "Liquidity" (6:24)
Lemont - "Cascading Mistakes" (6:49)
Varuna - "Speculative Communities" (6:24)
Review: Basel-based experimental labels Amenthia Recordings and A Walking Contradiction join forces for their first collaborative release here in the form of the Flash Crash/Hack Crash EP. Both labels are known for pushing boundaries within their close-knit creative circles and this one features Agonis' heavy stepper and Konduku's whirlpool of low frequencies on the Amenthia side, while Lemont continues the low-end, tripped-out vibe. Varuna represents A Walking Contradiction and delivers swampy, slow-motion sounds in their signature style. This release embodies both labels' commitment to daring, unconventional electronic sounds.

Dreadmaul & Tobe:n - "Homunculus" (6:08)
LCP - "Off Limits" (5:22)
Books - "Cosine" (4:57)
Review: Fresh off the back of Cryptographic's intense 'Echo' release comes this fitting V/A from the ever-intriguing Swiss experimental 170 label Re:st. Music to realign our Covid-ravaged chakras to 'Re:align' introduces three new names to the label; Alternate Current steams out of the gates with a dub techno juggernaut 'Borrowed Language' while Dreadmaul & Tobe:n whip a rhythmic stampede that's screaming to be unleashed on a big system with 'Homunculus'. Flip for two slightly more cosmic tales as label founder LCP gently pats us down with the trickling lolloping loops of 'Off Limits' before Books signs us out with the sparse and skippy 'Cosine'. Refine your alignments.

Review: By now you should all know that the MDR imprint is associated with Berlin's finest, Marcel Dettmann After a year of sporadic releases - the dude has probably been busy spinning menacing techno seven nights a week - comes this new double 12", a sort of hello from himself and his tight-knit crew over at Berlin institute of techno Berghain. All the bad boys are here, including Answer Code Request with his very singular brand of techno, The Corner man Anthony Parasole who has now become synonymous with the Berghain sound, Norman Nodge, Milton Bradley aka Alien Rain, and a few lesser known producers such as Lockertmatik and FBK. Big release, cop on sight!

Linear System - "0724am" (5:50)
Tangram - "Variant Trials" (6:09)
Review: After the success of their last outing, A New Chapter, from this label, Balders Audio offers up a second various artists 12" with some punchy techno for loud sound systems. Audio Units opens up with the thrilling drum programming and intense synth textures of 'Transmodality.' Linear System then keeps up the pace with '0724am' which is a sleek, linear, heady techno roller marbled with eerie little cosmic details. Tangram's 'Variant Trials' shuts down with what is a deep, dark, moody acid-laced techno mind melter. Perfect 5 am tackle if you ask us.

Simina Grigoriu - "Flight Tracker" (6:14)

LAAT - "The Age Of Juno" (6:05)
Review: Mighty European powerhouse Drumcode rolls out more of its techno tsunamis here with part one of the 12th volume of its A Sides collection. The boss himself, Adam Beyer, offers up one of the biggest cuts - 'Heading South' is a surging, straight-up techno weapon rippled with deft synths that ever forever on the move. Danny Avila's 'My Crew' (feat Flowdan) is built on a foundation of earth-shattering kicks and rolling bass with hellish stabs and vocal fragments making for an intense atmosphere, and Simina Grigoriu's 'Flight Tracker' is the sort of quick-moving techno sound to lock you into a trance. Add in LAAT's 'The Age Of Juno' (oi oi!) and you have a very useful and high impact EP of contemporary techno.

Omar Akrhif & Lucretio - "Orlu Pensylvania" (6:08)
Review: This new collection offers up a quartet of tracks that are all tailored for slightly different moments on the dance floor. On side A, Dani Casarano kicks off with deep, hypnotic grooves that make for an immersive atmosphere before transitioning to punchy, bass-driven energy with other cuts. Side B introduces a new alter ego from Felian and Bruno Schmidt and the pair explore a robotic, looping groove with incidental breaks and nostalgic synths in the euphoric third track. Closing the release in style, Omar Akrhif & Lucretio present a minimalist masterpiece that is aimed at heady after-hours sessions.

Review: Colossio and Luke Garcia combine on this new EP for Microcastle and offer up a mix of solo and collaborative cuts. Musically, techno is the foundation sound here but is explored far and wide. Colossio gets things underway with 'Amen' which is all fizzing pads and buzzy synths over tough drums. Luke Garcia's 'Ryen' is then an explosive mix of strobe lit and peak time tackle with writing lines and freeform energy. Then the pair combine for 'Situation' which is more white knuckle techno and finally 'My Body' which is a dark industrial cut for tense moments.

Bobby Strong (Anthony Naples remix)
The Night Patrols (A Man Asleep) (Bookworms remix)
Review: Following the Woolford and Vynehall takes on Shit Robot and The Juan Maclean that surfaced last year, DFA come through with another interestingly themed remix release for their latest 12" offering. Taking on a more esoteric approach, tracks from Eric Copeland and Larry Gus are reworked respectively by Anthony Naples and Bookworms. Copeland and Gus are two of the more psychedelically inclined artists on the DFA roster and it makes for interesting listening to hear their music beaten down into the sort of shapes that work in clubs. The remix of "Bobby Strong" from Anthony Naples continues the young Brooklyn producer's penchant for sinking the propulsive elements of his productions deep beneath sonic grit and it's complemented well by the Bookworms take on "The Night Patrols (A Man Asleep)" which configures Larry Gus into the sort of booming, hypnotic techno you want to hear at Berghain.

Cybernetik Synergy is their latest and it's a collaborative affair between Dawe and Luca Lozano that brings out the best in both. 'Data Transfer' is electrified broken beat techno with fizzing synth malfunctions, wispy stabs and fractured vocals for raw rave vibes. 'NRG' is a more stripped-back but no less edgy sound, with spare hits riding a slick broken beat and mournful pads adding atmosphere. There's a remix and further rugged techno on the filpside with 'Virtual Space'.

Deepnaut - "World Crisis" (5:36)
Braulio Lam - "World Crisis" (5:28)
Deepchord - "World Crisis" (6:59)
Pulshar - "World Crisis" (4:26)
Review: One of the leading dub related labels to emerge in recent years, Avantroots project of taking dub as a genre to its furthest and freshest perspectives, while still showing the utmost respect for the history and the figures inside it, continues with this eye-opening contribution, 'Linval Thompson Meets Avantroots'. Featuring tracks from the likes of Deepchord, Pulshar, Deepnaut, and Braulio Lam, this latest project (as the name suggests) was led by the dub legend himself, Linval Thompson, who's list of credits and those he's influenced is pages and pages in length. 'World Crisis' is Thompson's key message, running like a refrain, re-emerging throughout the EP and finding new shapes with each artist's fresh approach. Deepchord's iteration, unsurprisingly, is the deepest of the collection, encircling and hypnotic it orbits Thompson's echoed vocals to perfection. Pulshar's take offers greater lyrical clarity, keeping the surrounding production minimal and delectably slow-paced, giving room for each element to breathe. Deepnaut's version is brighter, bubbling with the plucked samples of spaced-out electric guitar and expanding synth pads. Braulio Lam's offering, the final track on the release, is a more experimental, broken groover - chopping and shifting the vocals in a collage effect, refracting Thompson's message in order for it to be seen in a new light. A fantastic release to sink into - fully immersive and richly detailed.

Andrea Bertoli & DJ Bogdan - "Extremely On Line" (5:36)
Review: Exxtra Beats Records backs up its commitment to pushing things on with a new four-tracker of minimal and tech cuts. Edo Ecker's 'Extraluxxo' has warped synth lines that encourage introspection while the snappy beats make you move physically. Leff's 'Future Problems' has hazy and positive arpeggios that toot away over sustained chords and move at a nice inviting pace. Little Sea offers the snappy drums and gurgling acid lines of 'How I Wanna Feel' while Andrea Bertoli & DJ Bogdan's 'Extremely On Line' is a snappy and upbeat cosmic tech cut with wonky lines adding the charm.

Lapucci - "Mystic Beat" (5:49)
Review: Like its' two predecessors, this third EP from the shadowy Cimedirapax label offers-up brand-new cuts from a multitude of little-known producers and rising stars. The compilation-style EP is led by Elias, who impresses with the hybrid electro/techno/acid brilliance of 'Dance Deceiver', whose moody motifs, sci-fi chords and twisted acid lines are enticing in the extreme. Stigma then steps up with the retro-futurist electro urgency of 'End of the Data' - all mutant sounds, body-popping beats, fizzing synth sounds and vintage EBM chords - before label regulars Do Or Die join the dots between TB-303 fired insanity and Nitzer Ebb on 'Drk101'. To round off a quietly impressive EP, Lapucci delivers the subtly new beat-influenced throb of 'Mystic Beat'.

Here he branches out with a new label 9FINITY which takes its name from his young daughter's mispronunciation of 'infinity'. He says the name aims to capture the label's MO, which is to offer up "no-nonsense, discerning dance records from artists at the vanguard of modern club music." The first outing is a fine various artists collection with Eoin DJ's 'Red Rubber Roses' going deep yet driving, DJ Life twists melons with his cyborg house stomper, Luca Attanasio explores a futuristic tech house sound with a killer bassline, Coffintexts lays down filthy bass and Latinx club sounds and E-Talking cruises through the cosmos with some turbocharged prog-techno. Review: You always know what you're going to get with Drumcode and that is drum led and heavy techno that is rhythmic, weighty, and designed for big clubs. This latest slab of just that is from Oscar Escape and Linear Phase and opens with 'Recoded.' It's a paired back sound, relatively, with pulsating synths and tiny bells over the rolling drums. 'Irrupcion Beligerante' is a wall of rusty synth energy with more block rocking and bulky beats and 'Controlled Damage' burrows deep into the brain with industrial textures and unrelenting energy.

Review: Second time round for the much-loved "Ways Of The Sun", Frankey and Sandrino's 2015 collaboration with vocalist La Oberg. This time, there's no original mix to admire, but rather a quartet of fresh remixes. Jimi Jules steps up first, wrapping dubbed-out synth splashes and La Oberg's evocative vocal around a loose and languid dub disco-meets-deep house groove, before Peter Kruder re-imagines the track as an acid bass-propelled chunk of analogue deep house goodness. Over on side B, Manuel Fischer dishes up a sunrise-ready organic tech-house take while Armitage slams down a loopy and hypnotic peak-time revision that subtly builds throughout.

Heavy Mental kicks off with 'Dabro', a colourful and loopy house jaunt for sunny days. Twowi's 'Metaverse' takes off to the cosmos on lithe electro rhythms with ice-cold beats and widescreen pads. And that is Artificial Dance, where he hooks up with Loradeniz for this interesting take on cold wave and synth. The tracks are underpinned by contemporary bass and deep groves which makes them perfect for club play but not at the expense of the melodies. Review: The DEXT label serves up a firing Limited Compilation here for its fifth outing and it calls upon several serious bass heads for the beats. K-65's 'Heavyweight' is brilliantly energetic and lithe, with lurching loops and slamming hits, ten bass and twisted vocal stabs. There is real pace and punch to the drums that underpin the title cut, but it's the distant screams and wails paired with swirling pads and restless bells that really make it come to life. 'Permian-Triassic' is just as intense but inviting with its pinging kicks and rippling synth lines and then as is often the way, things take a freaky turn on the B-side. 'In A Tizzy' has plenty of carries texture and the synths take on a hellish energy, while 'No Expectations' rounds out this full flavour and impactful techno offering with broken beats and industrial grime.

Review: There is a very grand back story to this EP that is worth finding but is too lengthy and conceptual to go into here. Assessing the release on its musical merits alone still results in high praise: this is no-frills techno with great style at its heart. 'Vincitori' is a menacing, ritualistic dance through minimal drums and moody pads. 'Vinti' has a more driving rhythm and molten synth lines while 'Alba Longa' gets abstract with slithering synths and surging, swamp sounds all making it a brilliantly unusual track. 'Trigemini' shuts down with spacious, eerie, dubby atmospheres that are hugely evocative.

Review: Lag brings his distinctly textured techno to Swedish label Pohjola here. 'De Intros' fires out of the blocks with tightly stacked kick drum pressure under synths that peel off the groove and flashes of urgent laser. 'Kolibri' is a more stripped back cut, with rusty textures and prickly metal skating over a rubbery groove that seems to float as it races on wards. There is plenty of energy in the pounding, off-grid kicks and hits of 'Ples Sloevna' which has vocal stabs and urgent sirens again adding to the intensity while closer 'Kolo' is more scuffed up broken beat techno machismo.

He exhibits that again on this new EP for Atlantic Thunder which kick off with the gurgling synths and tanging bass notes of 'First Contact'. Silky arps are what ensure it takes flight through the cosmos, though. 'Niburi Ritual' has a darker mood and heavier kick patterns and 'Ionosphere' is a supple and lithe electro workout that channels the best of Detroit. A fine sense of menace and end of the world finality then characterises the excellent closer 'No Escape.'

Review: Laska returns to his and Re:Ni's RE:LAX imprint for the first time since launching it with 'Body Score' 18 months ago and once again it's a powerful dispatch that manages to hit so many spots without falling down any genre category trapping. 'Wonda' is a mystical, tribal weave of textures and energy underpinned by some booming, warm bass tones. For a slightly slower, more cosmic tango in the stars head for 'Kwaze'. Complete with guidance from Phelimuncasi, this is a beguiling trip into the dreamiest side of the dance without so much as lifting a toe from mother earth. Imagine if Andrew Weatherall and Muadeep once collaborated and you might be dancing the same dance...

Review: Munich's mighty Ilian Tape is the next label on which Laksa impresses with this new Voices 12". First out of the blocks is the sound system bothering 'Tech Steppas' with its wobbly low end and percolating dark drum funk. 'LEO' brings a more brutal broken beat with elastic bass that makes you move in many different directions at once while 'The Art Of Slip' is a pounding mix of thudding kicks, tripped-out vocal loops and moody synth menace that never lets up. Last but not least is 'Enjoyment' which rides on a thrilling and airy half-speed percussive rhythm that has plenty of height to it. Another inventive EP from the Ilian crew.

Review: The fourth release on Sicknote and Dexta's Disc World comes from Edinburgh legend Neil Landstrumm who presents four typically singular takes on electronic music with the Fang Man EP. Whether it's the harcore rave throwback of opening cut '80 Click's Of Your Hand' or off-kilter electro funk on 'Cash Crew' featured on the A side, or the frantic bass assault of B side cut 'Desperate' where he presents his take on the footwork sound, or the depth charged breaks of 'Eskva', Landstrumm is still quite the outlier who continues to play by his own rules - respect!

First up is fellow Italian Denato Dozzy who flips 'Hidden' into an all-out techno stamp-out with a relentless build-up while Reeko takes this year's single 'Tensor' and pressurizes it into a rolling tech hybrid that's laced with swathes of haunted amens. Review: This fresh four-track EP Reinos Elementales opens with 'El Descenso de Inanna' an electrifying piece featuring dark atmospheres and a powerful rhythm that is simultaneously energetic yet introspective. 'Uroboros' (named after the snake which eats its own tail and is a symbol of the cyclical nature of life) the EP's second track was the first that emerged from the duo's initial jam session and blends cyclical dub sounds with organic elements for a warm, vibrant feel. 'Malachite' delivers a fluid and urgent rhythm perfect for the dancefloor. Closing the EP, 'Stato Liminare' features deep but fractured rhythms and a hypnotic mantra in the composers' native language that creates a magical atmosphere somewhere between reality and the ethereal.

Review: Last year Berlin institution Ostgut Ton marked their ten-year anniversary with an extensive 30 track compilation housed across the width of ten 12"s and packed neatly in a rather fancy looking box set. Long since sold out, Ostgut have done the right thing by commencing a series of individual 12" reissues featuring all of the music for the label fans who missed out first time around. After Eins and Zwei, we arrive at Zehn / Drei which features a triplet of modern techno productions from four of the label's closest associates. Up top Len Faki remixes the LB Dub Corp and Function collaboration "Roller", adding a subtle few notches of intensity to the original, whilst Dave Sumner goes alone on the lead B-side track "DX3_Analog_Bass_Seq". Lastly Substance aka DJ Pete offers up "Keine Angst," a fleet-footed tribal stomper and jacking vocal samples.

Similar Familiar (Benedikt remix) (6:09)
Review: Lea Porcelain, the new wave retroverts from Frankfurt am Main could very well be the next big thing that you've never heard of. The original version of "Loose Life" itself is quite difficult to locate on the interwebs but we're sure it's hard to compete with local legend Roman Flugel's slow burning remix on offer here. Darmstadt's finest Benedikt Frey is onboard too, giving "Similar Familiar" a makeover that's as unique as pretty much all his other work: part techno, part cosmic or even industrial. It's brooding, wall of sound guitars and vocals drowned in reverb battle it out against pounding 909 snare attacks and screeching synth leads. Awesome!

For that reason, Clone Records have been digging in them and now offer up 'Slam Jack Deep Chicago Ghetto Technofunk' tracks from the archives and have remastered them for the occasion. Originally crafted in the early 2000s as a tribute to the Yamaha DX synth, these tracks now sound better than ever and will jack any set. 'Dx Days' is a deep and mystic one, 'Bayville Cove' has swirling cosmic pads and chattery drums and 'Colorado Snow Music' is atmospheric and menacing.

Review: Danny 'Legowelt' Wolfers may be the only man in the world capable of carrying off an album cover that features him sat in a forest, eating pancakes, alongside one of the many vintage synthesizers he owns. The eccentric Dutch producer has a near faultless discography, too, with each new album - and there have been rather a lot over the years - being as quietly impressive as the last. There's much to enjoy on his latest full-length, which sees Wolfers giddily flit between rap-sporting electro-punk quirkiness ('Under a Golden Dome'), sci-fi-seeped Italo-disco revivalism ('Edelweiss Reingold', the tongue-in-cheek title track), sparkling deep electro (the starburst sweetness of 'You Are Just a Sad Hologram Projected From The Edge of the Universe') and acid-flecked techno ('Side By Side We Ride Against The Hordes of EDM').

The Dutch wonder producer has got almost as many aliases as there are days of the year and nearly as many releases out in the world as there are grains of sand on a beach. And importantly they are all excellent, as is this new one which finds him turning on his machines and cooking up fine fusion of electro and techno that head off to the edges out our known universe. Colourful, characterful and potent for DJs and dancers, this is another essential 12" from the indefatigable synth king, not least because of the great track titles.

Review: Dutch wizard Legowelt has no bounds to his musical creativity, and no limits to the amount of music he puts out. His next sonic trick comes on Altered Circuits and finds him exploring the Ruins Of Cracktopolis. As always his track titles are as good as his musical concoctions with 'Do You Know Who You Never Be' mixing up fizzy pads and sci-fi synths with bustling drums. 'In A Trance Dance All Night' is cosmic electro-tech, 'Ruins Of Cracktropolis' rides on silky arpeggios and bubbling melodies and 'Like Twin Peaks' shuts down with a more edgy techno sound.

The title cut 'Vael Method' opens up with squealing electronics and scruffy techno drums all wired up with some elastic synths. The brilliant 'Routine Procedure' is another heavy roller that is run through with paranoid pads and sci-fi bleeps while 'Self Hitting Anvil' is another spitting, menacing mix of rusty sound designs and malfunctioning electronics over linear beats. 'Atavism' and 'Luminous Angle' shut down with more kinetic energy and twitchy futurism.

'Odd Glyphs' opens with dark and potent techno that is in a real rush. 'Cauterized' has the distant sounds of a factory in full swing while the punchy drums provide plenty of forward motion. Review: Planet Rhythm's approach to techno is pure and simple, but always effective. The label's sub-series hits an eight relate here with Lenny San serving up some monstrous and macho dub tackle across both sides of this new white 12". 'Matrix' has grainy, gritty chords and hurling great kicks that cannot fail to make a vast warehouse march as one. 'Suggestion' is another economical yet efficient dub techno banger, 'Acryl' has subtle distortion and rusted metal texture bring the forceful groove to life and 'Antagonist' shuts down in fierce fashion.

Review: There's something pleasingly primal and no-nonsense about Amelie Lens' brand of nostalgia-soaked big room techno. As ypu'll no doubt be aware, Lens specialises in banging, rave-igniting workouts which combine nods to the glassy-eyed, early-90s Belgian club sound with blisteringly big, booming 21st century techno beats. 'In My Mind', the title track from her latest EP, is another breathlessly excitable variation on this energy-packed formula, with atmospheric spoken word snippets, jumpy electronic riffs and twisted 'Hoover' noises riding a bowel-bothering bassline and insanely heavy drums. Lens opts for deeper, spacey-sounding chords and psychedelic acid motifs on the similarly breathless 'First Light', before opting for an even more hallucinatory, brain-melting distorted techno sound on 'Trippin'.

The latest artists to step up to tweak the hugely successful formula are Alex Lentini and Stomp Boxx. hey pair up on four fresh cuts that right from the off show some nice invention, with fizzing textures and wooden, block beats defining 'Solstice.' 'Equimulate' closes out one of the better Drumcode EPs for some time.

Review: TraTraTrax is a Colombian label run by Nyksan, DJ Lomalinda and Verraco. It presents its first edition in a new vinyl series here: Los Totes. On the A side, rising Miami-based talent Nick Leon is all over it with the euphoric bass-heavy dance of 'Xtasis' (feat Venezuela's DJ Babatr) which gets a remix by UK post dubstep stalwart Pearson Sound up next. Over on the flip, Nicola Cruz delves deep into the exotic on the hypnotising and drum focused psychedelia of 'Se Pone Caliente' and finally some deeply meditative techno by Sao Paulo's Badsista on their remix of Luca Duran's 'Metal Parce' (feat Parco Palaz).

Review: Lerosa has a flexibility in his sound which can reach from immersive techno pastures (as on his album for Acid Test) via exquisite deep house on to true-school electro and Italo. It's the latter formation which takes the lead on this new 12" for Welt Discos, with 'Karnak' revelling in a cascade of heart-wrenching synths with a snappy funk to the drums. 'Pledge' strikes a unique sweet spot where minimal wave and dubwise steppers meet, offering a hitherto unexplored dimension to the Italian man in Dublin town. '893' brings a more classic electro-techno flavour for the uptempo crew, and then 'Universal Balance' smooths things out with blown out piano chords atop a relaxed machine funk beat.

Review: Undersound Recordings have got some heat on their hands here thanks to Levat who does not much about four fulsome techno fusions. The first is freewheeling and has wild synths spraying about the mix over hefty drums. 'Greenumb' then has an edgy feel with more electronic-sounding synths and keys bringing unruly energy to the thudding kicks. 'Plazma' is dark and menacing with its coarse hits nailing you to the floor and 'K-Kraze' is an electro-tinged pumper with frazzle chord vamps. 'Oddlove' shuts down with withering sci-fi sounds and a future feel.

Review: Belgian-based producer Ilario Liburni brings some great sophistication to this new blend of techno, acid and bass. 'Tivoli' has a polished aesthetic - an air of serenity exudes from the bouncy drums and sleek synth pules that bring to mind the crisp Alpine air of the European Alps. 'Agree' is another smooth but not overcooked sound with more sonar-like synth pulses, dusty hi-hat adding a counterpoint and rubbery drums propelling things on. 'Wonderful Transmission' has a grubbier acid line and wonky leads while 'Haunted' is dubby, fulsome house with techno futurism and daubs of molten melody.
