They are also mad consistent both in style and quality which means they never age. Here he steps up to Lempuyang with his Blue Channel alias alongside Jonas Schachner aka Another Channel for more silky smooth fusions of authentic dub culture and Maurizo-style techno deepness. Watery synths, hissing hi-hats with long trails and dub musings all colour these dynamic grooves. They're cavernous and immersive and frankly irresistible and the sort of tracks that need to be played loud in a dark space. In that context, you'll never want them to end.

'Every Knee' is an archetypal roots reggae anthem that has everything you want in a tune. Review: 1994's original pressing of Steely & Clevie's outstanding leftfield production with Johnny Clarke's vocals is well worth inspecting, but you might struggle to find one these days, and it'll be pricey if you do, because it's become something of a classic 45. Thankfully it gets reissued here with A-side original 'Leggo Violence' rolling lazy drums while the Clarke vocals soar high and sweet despite what they sing about. On the flip is a smooth rolling version that allows that super bassline to do its thing free from any distraction, and all with extra dub goodness.

Imitation Love (reissue) (limited 12")

Review: Mellow Rose and Seargent Pepper's 'Imitation Love' proved a big-hitting reggae 45rpm when it first dropped and so now it has been reissued on this sweet, limited edition red vinyl 12". It first came on Studio 16 back in August of last year and is already worth a pretty penny on second hand markets. The A-side is a super sweet lover's rock sound with falsetto vocals up top, acoustic guitars and fleshy low ends sinking you into a romantic rhythm. On the flip, Seargent Pepper gets to work on 'Dub And Rub Ina Imitation Way' which is more sci-fi and futuristic in its sound designs, all with a hazy and stoner edge.

Review: Prince Chamba joins forces for a superb new roots cut here with Slimmah Sound and Ital Horns. Their 'Secret Light' is a smoky and seductive sound with wobbling low ends and impassioned vocals delivered with a heart-aching twist as the melanotic horns fly up top and rousing chords add some hope. Slimmah Sound & Ital Horns then add their own heavily reverbed dub version and Slimmah Sound offers 'Melody Of Light' which is full of hypnotic harmonica leads. A second dub version once again reworks it into a stoner's delight that will sink you deep into the sofa.

Review: Prince Fatty's 'Mercedes Benz' with Shniece and Horseman is a rub-a-dub version of a 1970s hit from Janis Joplin that now gets a very special pressing courtesy of Lovedub Limited. The A-side kicks off with the spine-tingling and epic original vocal before disappearing into a world of reverb. At that point the dubby low end arrives and brings a different vibe to the stunning vocals but one that really makes a mark next to new bars from Horseman, police sirens and funky riffs. It's a tough sound system groove that is backed with a fine version and has been a firm fixture of Prince Fatty's record box for a while now.

Review: Seafront International is "honoured" to unveil a poignant tribute to the late, great Sandeeno, who left us far too soon. In that regard, and with the legacy he leaves, he joins the ranks of many other reggae legends. This long-awaited release originates from a recording session a decade ago at Backyard Studio UK, and since then it has lay patiently awaiting completion. Renowned Belgian producer Martin De Ronne, also known as Unlisted Fanatic, has impeccably handled production and mixing duties. Review: Shades of Black is producer Paul Fox. He is based in the UK and makes roots, reggae and dub with a global fee. It has been that way since he debuted in 1992 and in the ensuing hears has worked with the likes of Nick Manasseh, Robert Tribulation, Michael Rose, Alpha and Omega and many more. Here he is dropping one of a couple of new tunes on the Africa Mae Do Leao label out of Brazil. 'Promised Land' (Binghi Mix) is super slow dub with Indian melodic references. 'Promised Dub' (Stepper Mix) is heavier and darker and more for the club.

Review: The excellent and brilliantly consistent Shades of Black brings together many Black musical genres and messages on this new 7" for the Africa Mae Do Leao label out of Brazil. It is dub with a global twist - the dig-dub low ends paired with mystic synth leads, organic percussion and echoing hits. Vocals speak with conscious messages about being the enemy, fighting back and plenty more. If you prefer it more direct then check out the dub on the flip which has more rich melodies that ring out above the tight rhythms.

Review: Bim Sherman and Sound Iration came together for this one in 1989 on WAU! Mr. Modo Recordings. Since then it has become a cult classic that will cost a few quid on the second-hand market. But it's not easy to find and so now comes a reissue by Partial. It features two of the three tunes that were on the original with identical artwork. In original form, 'Dream' is a blissed-out bit of sun-kissed electronic reggae. The drums are crisp, Bim's vocals are clean and the organ chords suck you in deep. 'Dream' (version part 3) is a subtle rework that brings out different leads.

Review: King Shiloh is back with more heavy and modern dub sounds from a range of talents who all add their own spin to a couple of heavy rhythms. Tiger Simeon & Brada Jahziel's 'Rastaman Vibration' gets underway with some bold, brassy horns and natty pianos that make for a full fat sound. Jah Works gets to work on the mixing desk and dubs it out to perfection while Lavosti brings a more modern sounding digital synth sheen and rousing vocal top line to the delightful 'Real Reggae Warrior.' Again it is Jah Wrks who steps up to do his thing and strip it back to deep dub vibrations.

Review: Merge Productions comes through with a special red vinyl release here of a new version from the album originally recorded by Earl Sixteen and Brazilian producer Lucas Kastrup. 'I & I' is a timeless bit of roots lovers' rock with gentle percussive tumbles and earthy guitar riffs detailing a fat bottom reggae rhythm with some sweet and soulful vocal sounds up top. It's rich island music and flip it over and you will find a deep and warm dub version for even more stoned late-night sessions.

Review: Flower Records fusion masters Masato Komatsu and Ryo Kawahara are Slowly and are adept at everything from dub to disco, soul to post-rock. They have been turning it out at a steady rate recently on labels like Oscarson but mostly Flower. Following a couple of standout 7"s in 'Tripping Out' and 'Let Some Love In' already this year comes 'Time Trip.' It is a lush bit of slow motion big beat and dub, with heavily treated Japanese language vocals over a fat, churning rhythm. An instrumental is also included on this crucial 7".

Review: This cracking Leroy Smart tune was recorded at Wackie's and has never been on its own 45rpm before. It was cut to the killer Love Joys' 'Studio Man' rhythm and is a mid-tempo jam with tumbling sou bass and natty chords hanging in the air above the rhythm. The vocals muse on the power of reggae music while some nice tinkles on the keys bring a bit of light to the dusty drums. Flip it over for a more paired-back dub version, 'Reggae Man.' Two timeless sounds for sure.

Review: Japan is well known for doing things with a truly distinctive and often slightly out-there twist. Reggae and roots are no different and are sounds that have long been explored by artists in the Far East. Muffin is a new label from Japan that will allow us to Delbert into the scene's latest works and now they return with a second curious and lovely 7". It opens with Sonia's 'Cloudy' (feat Emi & Gel) which has angelic pop vocals and a nice earthy dub rhythm below next to bright synth chords. The flip features 2shanti with 'Bongo Dub' (feat Goja Bongos) which slows things down to a nice heady crawl.

Review: 10000 Lions Sound System brings some serious heat to their final release of 2024. It's a various artists affair with four artists offering up one heavyweight tune each. Spectacular's 'Big Bold & Brave' opens up with raw, guttural vocals over mid-tempo digi-dub rhythms. Bulby Yorke's 'Big, Bold Dub' stirs it back to a more low-end heavy roller but the bright melodies remain. Reemah's 'Run Dem Down; adds some nice female vocal soul next to big horns and raw percussion before a final dub again pairs things back to the rich basslines.

Review: The well-regarded Digital English label has got a couple of crucial 7"s dropping at the moment and this one is a standout. It's a two-sided 45rpm that opens up with Chazbo in fine form on the A-side. His gem 'Chazbo In Session' has elements of everything from dub to reggae to lovers' rock. The dub is fat and lazy, the chords are natty and the vocals are soulful and expressive up top. Flip it over and you will get a fine version from Lin Strong named 'Unity Is Strength' that brings even more soul power to the rolling rhythms.

Review: VP have got some special and long-lost roots reggae classics here on 45rpm for the first timer in forever. The A-side here first dropped in 1979 and was recorded at Channel One, mixed at King Tubby's and produced by Prince Jammy not one before he went digital - something of a holy trinity of top-class reggae quality. The original is full of proper good and authentic dub flavour with fat bass and smoky atmospheres. Prince Jammy's own superb dub cut features on the flipside which is full of his usual mixing desk magic.

Review: Original 70s roots reggae label Phase One has prepared a number of reissues this month and they all serve up some quality sounds direct from the source. This one from Leroy Swaby is a lovely vocal cut that was crafted by producer Roy Francis and was originally recorded and released in the late 70s on his excellent label. As with all most of the recordings the label put out, this one comes with a dub done at King Tubby's and arrives in a hard colour company cardboard sleeve.

Review: It's time to take a trip back to the legendary 1980 production era of Sly & Robbie's Taxi label. By 1980-81, Taxi's stripped-down, heavyweight drum and bass sound ruled the dubplate scene at Channel 1 and while tracks like 'Heart Made of Stone' and 'Black Uhuru's' saw official releases, others like 'Warrior' and 'Rocks and Mountains' remained elusive and only surfaced decades later. 'Don't You Cry' by The Viceroys is one such raw, haunting roots track from that time with a thunderous drum and bass version also cinder. Straight from the dub room at 29 Maxfield Avenue, this long-lost gem is another special delivery.

Review: Black Uhuru and Sly & Robbie was a powerhouse collaboration that gifted reggae some of its most vital anthems. Backed up by the toughest rhythm section in the business, Black Uhuru were able to push a new urgency in Jamaican music which has lost none of its power over 40 years later. This compilation on TABOU1 gathers together a treasure trove of A-sides, dub mixes and even especially resotred dubplate specials from Black Uhuru's purple patch between 1977 and 1980, when they were recording almost exclusively for Sly & Robbie's Taxi label. Some of these tunes are beyond the wildest dreams of any reggae devotee who knows their onions, but even for the casual listener there's magic in every riddim.

Review: Disco-infused reggae and soulful grooves are on the agenda as Prince Fatty takes to the controls with regular vocal colllaborators Shniece and Horseman along for the ride too. For the Disco Deception album, he raids the reinvents various classics in the image of his own signature low-end energy and impeccable production, giving us original and dub mixes to choose from in several cases. His version of Krfatwerk's 'The Model', which features both Shniece and Horseman, was an underground smash when it emerged a couple of years back and sounds as vital as ever. 'Fever', made famous by Peggy Lee as far as 1958, gets some soul-stirring vocals from Shniece, and Tom Browne's 'Funkin' For Jamaica (NY)' is a glory of funky basslines to shimmering horns. A magnetic atmosphere that keeps listeners engaged from start to finish, all with character to spare.

Review: This is the first reissue of Scientists' groundbreaking 1983 LP The People's Choice, which was the debut album created on King Tubby's then-new and soon-to-be legendary 16-track mixing desk. Featuring ten powerful dubs from the dubmaster himself, it opens with the masterful 'Everlasting Version' which is a fierce take on the iconic You Know A Rude Boy/Survival rhythm. The tracks were produced by Roy Cousins and recorded with the Roots Radics at Channel One and then taken to Tubby's studio for final dubbing perfection. This release really is a cornerstone of dub that very much captures the vital era's sonic innovations and Tubby's unmatched production skill.

Review: Sexo Y Fantasia previously released one EP of brilliantly eccentric music on Glossy Mistakes - in the press release accompanying their debut album, Oneirotic, they're described as a 'Belgian-Italian aural freak show', a fantastic description in anyone's book. It's certainly an inspired, hard-to-pigeonhole set that sees them cloak sparse, shuffling rhythms, tongue-in-cheek spoken word vocals, sun-splashed synth-sounds, baked acid lines and memorable melodies in plenty of delay and reverb. It's a little bit Balearic, a touch new wave, and undeniably quirky. As you can see, we're struggling to accurately describe it, but the key thing is that it's really good - one of the most imaginative, entertaining and off-kilter albums we've heard in 2022.

Review: Soffplaneten takes us deep into a world of downtempo delight with the Samlar Damm LP on Sunken Rock Recordings. It is an eight-track odyssey that veers from the gentle rhythms of the opener to the languid dub rotations of 'Kom Till Mitt Talt' complete with twanging guitars and soulful vocal seductions. 'Hoga Mamma Moln' is a more percussive and upbeat cut built from loose drums and tin pot percussion but held together with smeared and heat-damaged chords. 'Tunnelbanan' is a whacked-out and laid-back stoner joint while 'En Suddig Musik' gets more experimental and unusual in its sonic collage. A wonderfully irreverent new take on Balearic overall.

Review: Steely and Clevie were amongst some of the most supreme rhythm makers in all of Jamaica in the 1980s and on into the 1990s. They worked together at King Jammy's in the aftermath of Sleng Teng with Steely doing the synth work and Clevie making the magic on his drum machines. They wrote a wide array of essential rhythms for the day's best emerging dancehall tautens and At The Top is a collection of crucial digital dub workouts "that strips bare the computerised wizardry at the duo's core." Review: Paul Dickow is the man behind the Strategy project and this album was first released by Khaliphonic in 2018 and now reissued on wax. The artist has long been thought of as a musical polymath who has spent his life immersed in hardware and crafting unique sounds across the dub spectrum. This record proves that and then some with a mix of dub techno, digi-dub and everything in between. The rhythms are deep and involving, the synths often icy and the percussion is just enough to elevate each tune next to sci-fi signifiers and cosmic motifs.

Review: It is still rather cold here at Juno HQ, but the days are starting to feel little longer and brighter, which means we're ever more open to Balearic reveries. Few are better than this one from Studio, the Swedish duo of Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Hagg who created a sound bridging indie, electronic and psychedelic music. Their 2006 debut blended Balearic romanticism with Krautrock, disco, dub, afrobeat and pop lyricism influenced by new wave and has been hard to find in physical and even streaming formats over the years. Inspired by DJ Screw, J Dilla and European live DJ sets, Studio embraced an "anything-goes" ethos, unbound by musical borders, and the results have stood the test of time.
