Space Bird (Dubfire Deep Space remix)
Space Bird (Liquid Soul remix)
Space Bird (original mix)
Review: Original live techno duo, System 7 stamp their mark on the dancefloor once again with their new single on A Wave, 'Space Bird', lifted
from their forthcoming album, 'Phoenix', which opens the label's musical account in 2008. Just starting to escape on promo, this buzzing
atmospheric instrumental sees System 7 push the envelope for a minimal sound that embraces trance in truly hypnotic dancefloor style.
'Space Bird' is the first of the two Jam El Mar collaborations on the new album, and straight out the trap is man of the moment, Dubfire's
excellent minimal trance and brooding tech house remix. Liquid Soul toughens it up with a charged, stripped-down affair that rocks the floor,
fuelled by spacey loops; and rounding off is the original version. Its chunky beats underpin the seductive musical loops building into a
full-on floorfiller that's about to start ripping up floors in Europe.
System 7 continue to defy constraints of the 'trend' side of the music scene, having appeared live at a large number of festivals this year.
Highlights include playing twice at Tokyo's Nagisa Festival, this year with Derrick May and Joaquin Joe Claussell; another mighty appearance
at the Glastonbury Festival West Dance Tent in June with A Guy Called Gerald & Trentemoller; the Main Stage at the Glade Festival with
Longrange, Digitalism & Richie Hawtin; as well as Italy's Sonica festival, Harmonia Festival in Spain and Devon's Waveform event with
Eat Static & Banco De Gaia.

CC Is 33 (6:57)
Subliminal 20A7 (6:07)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Margaret Dygas may be based in Berlin but her unique sound can't be tied down to any one city or scene, as she proves on her latest 12" across three tracks for the consistently exciting Half Baked label. Not that there's anything half done here, of course, with A-side tune 'Butterfly Effect' a prime slice of groovy. resonant techno that's understated and restrained enough to gain comparisons to Jaydee's 'Plastic Dreams' classic. 'CC Is 33' is warmer, with nicely slidy, jazzy organ chords and itchy technofunk rhythms, with the most minimal of the three tracks, the static-infused, atmospheric 'Subliminal 20A7', coming last but by no means least. A great showcase for a great, original talent.

At Les (Christian Smith Tronic Treatment remix) (9:45)
At Les (Christian Smith Hypnotica remix) (9:15)
Review: 'At Les' is one of Carl Craig's most beloved productions: a gorgeously dreamy chunk of Innerzone Orchestra style tech-jazz that first surfaced - on a now in-demand compilation - 25 years ago. Craig has revisited it several times since, but it's Christian Smith's 2010 reworks - reissued on this 12" for the first time since - that are arguably the most peak-time ready and dancefloor-centric. On the A-side 'Tronic Treatment' version Smith layers the track's iconic synthesizer motif - heart-achingly poignant and drenched in delay - and deep, spacey chords over deep, rumbling sub-bass and a crunchy deep house beat. Smith ups the tempo and intensity on the arguably even better 'Hypnotica Mix', which is closer in tone to pure Motor City techno and features a genuinely spellbinding breakdown.

Semitone Cycles - "Elusive" (6:29)
Review: Following excellent appearances from the likes of Roger Gerressen, Thor and Alessandro Crimi, the OHM Series continues to explore mellow threads of techno from emergent talents and established craftfolk in the outer reaches. This new release kicks off with Soela offering up a slender, seductive trip through dubby moodscapes before Dawn Razor digs into a hooked groove coursing underneath big swathes of icy ambience. Stelios Vassiloudis creates a heavy stomp around 'Live In Fear' without losing the delicacy which has defined the OHM Series to date. Semitone Cycles completes the set with 'Elusive', an elegant tripper with one eye on the wooziest end of the after hours.

Review: WAREHOUSE FIND!: OZY is an electronic musician and dj from Reykjavik. In the early years of his career, OZY released a series of influential records on the Icelandic dub techno label Thule Records, paying homage to the Berlin dub sounds and the abstract shuffle rhythms of Cologne techno. In 2002, the legendary Force Inc./Mille Plateaux label released OZY's debut album Tokei, bringing Ozy to the attention of a wide international audience. Orignialy released in 2000 The release "No Undo" is yet another step further, in fusing techno with new and fresh elements of drum&bass music, making the music incredibly dark and funky. The outcome is a wicked concept of futuristic tribal techno, designed strictly for the dancefloor:

Review: The unstoppable and irrepressible Louie Vega has commissioned a bunch of remixes of Tony Touch's 'Sacude' for his own Vega label. The man himself opens things up with a Brooklyn mix that is heavy on raw beats, percussion and Latin rhythm. Manoos goes for something a little more smooth and shuffling, while Oscar G's 305 remix is a deep, elastic groove with eerie synth work. He also serves up a dub, Tony Touch reworks his own original into something full of fire and a dark Louie Vega Bronx mix closes out the package.

Review: Move over Ross From Friends;' Brain De Palma is the newest and most hilarious dance name to hit wide-scale public consciousness in recent memory. This time, the fun and slippery house music producer stops off over at Peggy Gou's new Gudu Records, delivering yet another lovable pun - 'Purple Brain' - to a surrealists' pipe dream, and four tracks of synthpop preciousness. Beachside cocktails and jelly glimmer in the sun as we take in the sonic glory of 'Purple Brain', which reminds us equally of the style of mysterious artist E. Myers blended with the 8-bit uplift of Cold Beat or Anamanaguchi. Choice cut two is 'Once Were Dancers', an arpy, farty, renegade dance bit suitable for much fruity ocean-skimming and saucy skinny-dips.

For the next release on the rightly acclaimed Delsin Sterac series, he dives into his archives to unearth two timeless dub techno classics. Opener 'Helix' is perfectly smooth and serene, with frictionless drums and shimmering synth work braking back to prime era Detroit techno. 'Gnosis' picks up the pace, is a little more hurried, but still just as gorgeously sleek and soulful' This is the sound of someone speaking ably through their machines, and what a conversation it is.

It's one of those trippy gems from yesteryear which DJs covet for their extended sets, perfect for heavy-lidded morning moments when the immersion can't go deep enough. Now La Bella Di Notte are doing a reissue of this mysterious gem, finally scuppering the sharks to make this delectable 12" available for the masses once more. Review: It's over 25 years since Baby Ford decamped to the studio with, alternately, Mark Broom and the late Ian 'Eon' Loveday to re-examine the depths and possibilities of collaborative underground techno. The result, as we now know, was a giant step forward into a new sound, with a new label, Ifach, that would go on to define the blueprint for a more minimal sound it would take others a decade emulate. Monolense, four bittersweet, emotional, stripped bare explorations of techno has long been sought-after, commanding high prices on the secondhand market, and is finally getting a re-release. This is not just a moment in time, but a bookmark in UK techno history.

Review: Roy Of The Ravers takes a break from his mischievious outings on Acid Waxa et al to lay down some of his braindance tackle on Emotional Response. White Line Sunrise II.I (Le Roy Soleil) can rightly be considered a follow-up to White Line Sunrise II and indeed it represents a similar kind of spectrum of electronica. Roy's sound is edging further into the kind of 'artist' territory where slower, softer tracks, odd vocal diversions and some pop sensibilities merge with the acid, electro, breakbeat and other well-established tropes of his sound. It's the kind of record which could easily broach this quirky fringe operator of UK electronics to a broader fan base, and there's no doubt he's got the melodic, emotional heft on tracks like 'Versace 101624' to get everyone on board.

Review: Acid Waxa take a break from carrying Roy's mind-warping rave gear to bring you the deep donking, hardstyle hype-up of 'The Kingdom Of Scotland' by Romeo Taylor. You may have already heard the track bouncing around the odd mix or two for those with a penchant for full-fat hard dance with a wry comedic edge. The Black Market EP is an exciting project which illustrates the newly created fabric Originals label. Opening up with the powerful high tech soul epic 'Rising' which will have you reaching for the lasers, A2 cut 'Fulmination' is full impact techno with a hypnotic melody that's sure to move the mind and body. Review: A new label out of Mexico, Short Attention Records launches its second release with a five track offering of proper melodic house & techno from Hector Ram with the word 'quality' stamped large upon them. 'Midnight Sounds' starts things off with the grand rhythmically-building 'Midnight Sounds', almost New Order-esque at times. 'For Our Small Parties' follows, old skool again in flavour, blending subtly employed breaks and a sturdy house framework, then 'Dear Dancefloor', probably the gentlest and most fragile effort here, opens side two. 'On The Road' boasts a more electro feel and Orbital-esque synths, and is deemed worthy of a second airing via a nicely throbbing remix from Detroit's Generation Next closing proceedings.

As such, you're going to want to pay attention to this new release, which revolves around some ear-snagging samples chatting about players playing themselves. It's a hip-hop rooted attitude which extends into the funky cuts juicing up 'Player Three', while 'Player Twenty-Five' turns up the pressure with some loopy madness and then jacks 'Player Three' up by '8%' for those who like it faster. 'Ghetto Bootie' finishes the record off on an unmistakable Dance Mania tip, and it sounds absolutely deadly.

Review: Iceland's Thule offshoot label 66 Degrees was a vital label back in the day. After a 20-year hiatus, it came back strong in August and now follows up quickly with a second superb EP. This one is a carefully curated various artists collection that pulls together some local house anthems new and old. Ozy's 'Sequential Dub' is a super smooth deep house number with lush chord work. Sanasol brings heavier, more raw house drums and grinding bass that will get floors in a sweat. Oz Artists mixes up a raw, mechanical groove with balmy, dreamy pads up top to make for something utterly compelling on 'Atomox; while last of all Terry Cummingz pays homage to dusty Windy City house on his perfectly lo-fi 'Cherry Bon Bon. Classy business for sure.

'Prefix' is an all out techno blizzard as flurries of drums, toms, fizzing hi hats and glitchy claps all coalesce into one powerful linear groove. 'Gateway' brings bleeping and pulsing synths over urgent drum funk while 'Hydrocarbon' is a head wrecker with warped lines and panel-beating drums. 'Prism' is the sublime and seductive seven minute closer that offers a more smooth and minimal techno sound. It's a fourth very different mood on this fantastic record.

It's not hard to see why it was so in demand. 'Total Concentration' starts with drum machines set to stun and the mixing desk pushed to the edge of distortion. 'Deep Meditation' is smoother but still has the speed and crunch of its companion on the A-side. 'Mind Calming' has an almost industrial thump to it, minimal and brutal in all the right ways. It hurts, but it hurts good.

Review: A hard to find sci-fi Detroit techno classic - it's featured everywhere from Marcel Dettmann to Zip's SW sets.- gets a timely reissue complete with a new, super solid Delano Smith remix. It's hard not to love the original in all its futuristic glory, led by a sturdy four-to-the-floor pummelling but boasting a throbbing neo-disco bassline - imagine a lost Gorgio Moroder classic being remade by Jeff Mills in PurposeMaker mode. But the Delano Smith remix updates it for modern palates, ironically by delving back even further, to the early 70s model Kraftwerk from whom he borrows some very austere but classy synth sounds and a touch of electro syncopation. Take your pick according to mood, they both do the job admirably.

Orbitals (7:56)
Leafiness (6:23)
Review: Deepchord serves us the second taster of his upcoming full-length, 'Functional Extraits', out later this year, piling on yet newer layers of texture to his trademark dub techno sound. On this sneak preview EP, 'Glyphs' pulsates through a bed of rattlesnake shakes, swirling ambience, and thunderous knocks, as though it's documenting some bioorganic brain's inner workings. 'Orbitals' entrances us further, inviting us into a melancholic garage rave submerged in a gas giant, while 'Leafiness' barely utters a kick through its emulsive pulses.

Review: Skee Mask's run on Ilian Tape shows no sign of slowing down as his Skee Series clocks up volume seven. As always the sheer weight of ideas spilling out of his studio is remarkable, veering from the gorgeous aqueous tones of 'Daytime Gamer (version)' to the barely there drones of 'MDP93'. Beyond the dazzling acrobatics of his albums and EPs, these kinds of releases prove the range of inspiration the Masked one operates with, where intricate and exquisitely sculpted soundworlds can be as engrossing as the fullest, most dynamic beat construction. Skee Mask, with these sublime ambient drops you are really spoiling us.

A14 vs CB (5:29)
Stoat (5:54)
Type Beat 6 (5:05)
Wiz (4:25)
Review: The inimitable Skee Mask on the peerless Ilian label is one of dance music's best pairings if you ask us. Here the techno and breakbeat astro is in scintillating form across four blistering new cuts. 'A14 Vs CB' opens up at a high speed, with flashes of synth and distorted bass twisting and turning under high speed breaks. 'Stoat' is a panel beater that will boggle the brain with its edgy and ravey loops and then 'Type beat 6' is another melange of busted loops, pinging kicks and frosted synth work from a dystopian future. 'Wiz' closes in high impact fashion.

In From The Night (Adam Beyer & Wehbba rework) (7:22)
In From The Night (PAS edit) (8:19)
In From The Night (PAS live edit) (5:24)
Review: To celebrate the passing of three decades since the release of his first EP as Planetary Assault Systems, Luke Slater has served up new reworks of the single's most celebrated cut, 'In From The Night'. The first to have a crack at transforming Slater's 1993 original, a throbbing techno stomper rich in alien-sounding electronics and razor-sharp TB-303 motifs, are old pal Adam Beyer and Drumcode regular Webhha. They retain the original's intensity and sweaty techno breathlessness, adding raw, tech-trance style riffs and a grand, big room-ready sound. Over on the flip, Slater provides two tweaks of his own: a classic, build-and-release 'Edit' with added murky noises and extra TB-303 tweakery, and a blisteringly energetic, off-kilter, on-the-fly 'Live Edit' that re-imagines the track as a jumpy, broken techno beast.

Your Mind (Charles D Mixes)

Your Mind (Charles D Epic mix) (8:00)
Your Mind (Charles D Acid Line mix) (7:38)
Review: Here's a big old belter on that biggest of techno fortresses, Drumcode. On this two-track slammer, Adam Beyer and Bart Skils' monster track 'Your Mind' gets revisited by New York up and comer Charles D. After releases on Say What? and Pryda, D is able to show off his skills twice over, on the A-side living up to the billing of the 'Epic mix' of 'Your Mind' by bringing in the big, swelling pads that can fill a stadium and get hands raised aloft. On the flip, the 'Acid Line' version unsurprisingly brings a little 303 action into the mix, and makes sure the undercarriage is a thunderous juggernaut of supersized techno.

James Harcourt - "Act Of Resistance" (feat Asyn) (6:53)
Tom Peters - "Two Of Us" (Tim Engelhardt remix) (7:49)
Review: We've been enjoying the first few volumes of Selador Recordings's Magic Black Plastik series and this fourth one keeps the quality levels high. It assembles a fine crew of artists for some quality house steeped in emotion. 'Will We Ever Learn' (Jamiie remix) opes up with some sophisticated string stabs and nice deep groove before a Luke Brancaccio & Gai Barone remix brings a little techno futurism and steeliness to Anthony Pappa & Jamie Stevens's 'Hold You Back.' The B1 is a tune to lock a late night crowd into a melodic haze and the final Tim Engelhardt remix is a chunky but melodic roller.

Convolution (Levon Vincent Scream version) (9:38)
Convolution (Levon Vincent CS-101 version) (7:03)
Review: Convolution (Levon Vincent Versions) is a remix 12' of the Skudge classic that blends techno and house with a dubby touch. Levon Vincent, a New York City native and master of underwater funk, delivers two versions that showcase his signature style and pay homage to the original. The Scream Version perfectly fuses the original's greyscale aesthetic with Vincent's distinct Novel Sound, while the CS-101 Version preserves the atmospheric mood of this timeless track, with the added touch of a euphoric melody. Essential tackle for fans of both of these respected underground artists.

Roll The Dice (6:10)
Piano Power (7:50)
Review: With a career reaching back some 20 years, Bart Skils has remained committed to the art of the techno 12", with not a single album to his name. Instead, his focus has been on a staggering hit list of legendary labels from Pure Plastic to 100% Pure, Break New Soil, and since 2012, primarily Drumcode. As part of Adam Beyer's core contingent he's played a major part in shaping the sound of the label, and so he continues on this exemplary two-tracker. 'Roll The Dice' is a muscular yet lean workout for the bigger kinds of spaces, playing around with some monotonal vocal threads and laying down the b-line throb you expect from a Drumcode A side. The flip offers something a little different as 'Into The Clouds' takes some looped guitar licks as a vessel for transcendence, atop a steady trucking techno undercarriage, of course.

Jarnnatter (Ossia Disoriented dub) (8:07)
Review: Civilistjavel's most recent album, 2022's Janmatter, was a predictably atmospheric and out-there affair that blended suspenseful ambient moods and melodies with occasional IDM rhythms and plenty of experimental chops. Here two giants of leftfield electronic music and experimental techno give their interpretations of the album, crafting 'remixes' based on stems from a variety of different album tracks. Dave Huismans dons his familiar A MAde Up Sound alias on side A, re-imagining Civilistjavel's work as a hybrid deep techno/dub techno/ambient techno epic - all densely layered ambient textures, deep and distant beats, and waves of effects-laden synth sounds. Ossia takes a different approach on his 'Disconnected Dub', delivering an immersive sound design experience built around creepy, effects-laden ambient chords, unsettling rumbles and echoing bleeps.

Review: Yaleesa Hall's track record over nearly 10 years is nigh-on flawless, evolving to form an integral part of the Dutch techno and electro stable Will & Ink with release upon release of inspired edginess from the dark and sticky shadows of machine music. That's as true as it ever was on this latest Will & Ink drop, which follows four variations on an excursion into pneumatic, taut electro loaded with weapons-grade bass throb and bolstered by iron cladding. There's detail and dynamic sound design fizzing in and out of every bar, and that's where the magic lies on this latest transmission from one of the best doing it right now.
