100th Monkey & Tristan - "Gobi Desert" (Parallax Deep edit) (7:51)
Four Carry Nuts - "Bunker" (Parallax Deep edit) (9:08)
Review: There is a great backstory to this new one on Blue Hour: when Stockholm producer, DJ and promoter Maya Lourenco aka Parallax Deep was digging for music in the local Snickers Record store, she found two classic goa and psy trance tracks that particularly interested her. As such she snapped them up, took them home and began to work on her own distinctive edits of them, rearranging sections, cutting up bits and adding extra details while never getting too far away from the essence of the originals. Her edits of those two originals - 'Gobi Desert' by 100th Monkey & Tristan from 1995 - and 2000's 'Bunker' by Four Carry Nuts - are pressed up here and both sound brilliant.

Windmill (8:24)
Review: Heaven Smile is a Nduja-affiliated label that is back with a second offering that takes a trip into futuristic techno as well as offering up some superb abstract outings. 'Hold-1' is an ambient soundscape that draws you into a filtered synth that pulses as changes shape. 'Track 2' is dubby, techno-leaning house with diffuse chord vamps and 'Aliasing' is a distorted, scruffy collage of broken beats and knackered claps with a fuzzy pulse running through the middle. 'Hold-3' offers another ambient moment to catch your breath then 'Windmill' suspends you in amongst the stars.

Acid 01010 (6:14)
Review: Portuguese duo 2JACK4U go straight for the dance floor again here with a quartet of acid laced techno cuts. The first is edgy and eerie with bleeping synths and caustic snares bringing tension to the spookiness. The second track ups the pace and intensity with more fat, bobbling techno drums which are interlaced with all manner of bendy synths and jackhammer hits. On the flip side, 'Acid 01001' then layers up more loose and elastic synths and drums into something that bends space and time while 'Acid 01010' closes on a more minimal vibe, with pulsing synths and mind melting drum loops.

Selador Decade Vol 1
3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Ask Isadora (4:41)
Conga Banana (4:35)
Middle Eastern Cooking (4:58)
Mode (4:43)
Review: Under the alias 4E, producer Can Oral created his own unique sound of raw, futuristic acid-electro. The A-Side tracks "Ask Isadora" and "Conga Banana" first appeared on the album, Blue Note, released on Home Entertainment in 1996. On the flip are two unreleased tracks picked from his extensive archive and edited by FIT Siegel. These were also recorded during this era, which Can describes below:

"In the 90s I moved to NYC to start a band with Jimi Tenor. I had a small flat in the East Village with the apartment number 4E and that became my artist name for the downtempo and electro material I was working on. The style I called Futuristic Electro because I didn't want to relate to the old school with this. I had my studio on the kitchen floor and pretty much only used EMU SP-1200, TB-303, TR-808 and SH-101 by good ol' Roland. In a way NYC was still developing because it was all about house music. In 1995, I opened Temple Records in Manhattan with Dr Walker from Air Liquide and DJ DB from Smile Communications. The record shop was inside the Liquid Sky clothing store. After a fire in the shop, along with a falling out with the owner I decided to talk to a fortune teller to find out what the future held. Her name was Isadora, and she had a TV show called "Ask Isadora." She told me on live television to move out, have my own shop and be independent, so I did. Thanks Isadora!"

Review: 4E used to be Khan's apartment number in New York City's East Village back in the late 90's. 4E became the trademark sound for his downbeat acid infused electro work. On his kitchen floor he produced a very unique brand of futuristic funk tracks with only a ROLAND TB-303, SH-101 and the Hip-Hop fundamental SP1200 drum sampler. Besides a couple of 12"s for Force Inc. Music and the "Gentle Killer E.P." on Freddy Fresh's Socket imprint, 4E released the highly acclaimed downbeat electro album "4E4ME4YOU" on German glitch label Mille Plateaux. Back in 1998 4E shared the now legendary 12" with I-F "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass" on the "From Beyond Series" by Ectomorph's Interdimensional Transmissions. Pills & Thrills" on Temple Traxx is four previously unreleased acid-electro stomper that are as funky and noisy as it can get on an East Village kitchen floor.

Review: 6SISS is a Belgian producer who creates incredibly raw, generative electro; their latest 'Bots' explores the concept of artificial intelligence and machine learning through sound design and rhythmic structures, while each track recalls the intrusive nature of the many kinds of bots found on the net - be they chatbots, spambots, web crawlers, or social bots. Backing up the mood comes the oppressive, in-your-face transitory metallics of 'Cluster' and the brain-frying zappage of 'Networks'.

Review: Watergate, the cult Berlin club known for its riverside location and legendary LED ceiling above the dancefloor, is also a reputable tech house label that deals in fresh names only. Here it is 8Kays that makes a debut with Falling Down, a selection of superb collaborations including 'Matematica' with Glowal which is tense and electric tech with indie vocals and with Juan Hansen he cooks up the medically hopeful 'Falling Down' which then gets two remixes. Colyn & Beswerda make it into a moody and deep groove, Chris Avantgarde brings some peak time prog energy and solo cut 'Lyra' has a warm, paddy broken beat to cruise on through the stars.

Review: Fresh from serving up some savage "Rave Reworks" on an ultra-limited 12" single, techno's leading number crunchers return with an EP of fresh studio jams. As usual, what's on offer is intense, full-throttle and mind-altering in the extreme. Check, for example, opener (and title track) "000000005", where increasingly ragged, wayward and psychedelic acid lines surge forwards over a stomping, kick-drum dominated beat, or"000000006", an acid techno onslaught that waves a glow-stick towards the Halcyon days of German techno-trance. The acid-fired '90s techno revivalism continues on the flip with two more chunks of sweaty, mind-altering peak-time insanity. Not one for the faint hearted.

Review: Adding yet another record to the pile that has so far been provided by the label A_A, the experimental dub artists behind said outfit (Satoshi Tomiie and Nao Gunji) have really outdone themselves out here. On pink splatter vinyl comes 'Dissonant', one of many EPs to have emerged from the same heads-down studio session that saw to its predecessor, 'Radiant'. Tracks 1-4 lock in a slew of impressive ear-scourings and dub-delayed experimentations, with the first and last tracks particularly blowing us away with their broken beats, which allow for more attention to be paid to every undulation, crackle and knock.

Review: The second release on the fascinating Mooziken Analog Room label comes not from Detroit-based Iranian Salar Ansari, who delivered the imprint's debut release, but rather British acid house, techno and drum & bass pioneer A Guy Called Gerald. The Mancunian channels the raw, analogue-rich heaviness of his early work throughout the EP, which sees him skip between twisted, cunningly swung, acid-fired heaviness ('Old Skool'), pleasingly metallic blends of electro, clonk and house ('Sugoi'), trippy and hypnotic early morning mysticism (the Berlin-friendly haziness of 'Flash Fight') and chunky, funk-tinged tech-house (the 'is it heavyweight house or light-touch techno' of 'False Religion', where Gerald makes a rare appearance on the mic).

Cosmic Trigger (8:33)
Review: While it's become fashionable to release records that draw on the more psychedelic musical elements evident in vintage techno, electro and trance records, A Sagittariun has been ploughing that sonic furrow for many years. He successfully dips into this pool of influences once more on the Strange Brew EP, whose title may be a reference to a club in his home city of Bristol. He begins by enveloping a punchy, rolling electro-breaks groove with cosmic-sounding pads, bubbly electronics and slivers of TB-303 tweakery on 'The Mind Blanks at the Glare', before opting for a sweaty, rave-era-house-goes-acid-techno sound on the chugging, mind-mangling 'Don't Look in the Freezer'. Best of all though is flipside 'Cosmic Trigger', a deliciously immersive chunk of deep techno rich in trippy electronics, sumptuous pads and tactile grooves.

An Education
Review: Since its emergence in 2011, Shifted and Ventress's Avian and Mira labels have become outlets for like-minded producers to express themselves in different creative manners, some choosing to work anonymously (Bleaching Agent) and others not (Burma Camp, 440PPM). A Vision Of Love falls in the former category, with the producer surfacing on Avian earlier this year with the first in a series of a series of self-styled "S & M techno tools" under the banner of Lessons In Hate. With the true identity of A Vision Of Love still very much under wraps, Part Two of the Lessons In Hate series now arrives with chiselled techno drums traversing squalling, savagely equalised electronics crafted using vintage gear and driven by a passion for classic second wave Detroit techno, whilst further alluding to A Vision Of Love's basic themes of S&M.

On RM 12015, feel the low-slung and funky dub of A2's 'Open Your Mind' which they follow up with some moody computer funk on the next track 'Entity'. Review: UK artist David Duncan recorded only one EP as Ability II but it is one of those which has become an utter cult classic and much sought-after 12". The story goes that the bassline on this one was so deep the mastering engineer had a problem cutting it. There is no evidence of it on this reissue though - that bassline powers the tune perfectly as the plunging kick drums and dancing synths get you moving your body. Perfectly deployed vocals bring heart-aching soul as this most warm and dubby cut drowns you in timeless deep techno. Next to the gorgeous original mix is an extended dub for even more drawn-out late-night dance floor pleasures.

It opens up in dubbed-out and stripped-back fashion with supple rolling rhythms way down below the most deft of pads. 'Anaesthesia' brings some fizzing static electricity to the mix but the mood remains foggy and bleak in beautiful ways then 'Learned Behaviour' brings a little more thump to the low end but the atmosphere remains sparse. Blending hard dance and techno, the Berlin-based producer showcases her signature style on four powerful tracks. With a background in DIY rave culture and a dedication to community-led electronic music, Valerie's sound is a contemporary fusion of genres. Review: Some six years after debuting via a deliciously angular and energetic EP from Jaquarius and Mono-Enzyme 307, the Acid Avengers imprint notches up release number 20. Like most of the label's EPs, it's a multi-artist affair. Sometime Balkan Vinyl and Bass Assault artist Acidulant handles side A, bouncing between rushing, piano-sporting 1992 hardcore revivalism ('Super Rave'), sub-heavy deep electro haziness ('Save The Last Rave') and throbbing, arpeggio driven trance/breakbeat techno fusion ('Hauz Trax'). Voiron, who last graced the label back in 2016, takes over on the flip. The Paris-based producer first fuses glistening, spacey melodies, twisted acid lines, post-electro beats and dirty bass on 'Bon Kick Voiron', before opting for deep acid house on 'Digital Voiron Workstation' and atmospheric, Orbital-meets-'90s tech-house on 'Sugar Voiron'.

This 11th Acid Worx transmission does all sorts of wild things with the machine. Firstly it gets prickly and loopy over textured techno drums. Then it takes on a retro video game feel on the pulsating 'Track 2' and again on 'Track 3' which is even more full throttle. It has been that way since a debut release in 1999 and even 21 years later the artist still finds new ground each and every time. The Lost Tracks Ep is presumably old but never before heard tackle from the vaults. 'Lifelines6' pairs punchy kicks and woody hits with a nice wonky synth phrasing, while 'The Hunter' has a more glitchy and mechanical beat with another bendy synth lead. That duality is pleasing indeed before 'Burial Ground' gets deep and heady and 'Hand Prints' closes on tripped out and airy afterparty tackle.

Still inflected with the mega-drops and hoover-risers endemic to much of EDM, there's a refreshing dryness to ADHS' sound, not normally traversed in much big room techno. The love-em-or-hate-em label always deliver a rave romp for titans, barging past polite types with frick-off bits from A.D.H.S., Julian Jewell, Marco Faraone and Gary Beck. Topping off a project originally conceived in 2012, this is a pulsing sensation suitable for both budding techno enthusiasts and chinstokers willing to let their hair loose for once.

Nulla Resta (3:22)
Sospesa (4:31)
Parole (3:05)
Notturna (3:23)
Review: Adiel's Danza Tribale adventures continue apace as she delivers the fourteenth release on her label. As well as exploring immersive, non-standard rhythms in her well-established style, the Italian artist is also folding some more emotive, trance and pop-informed elements into her sound. 'Nulla Resta' has a bombastic, main stage festival quality to its composition, while 'Sospesa' edges some brooding songwriting qualities into an intricate, elegant d&b-styled production. 'Parole' switches things up with a lighter mood led by organic instrumentation and plucked string leads and 'Notturna' closes the EP out with yet more epic production that confirms the techno stalwart heading into fresh pastures away from the strictures of pure club music.

Review: Remastered and reissued with new a new album cover via the Clone West Coast Series, Adult's 'New Phonies' EP first appeared in 2000 as the duo moniker of Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller, two legit electro stalwarts. This is a proper snappy electro EP - of the least sympathetic and most coldly calculating kind - evoking the fright of becoming trapped inside an inescapable subliminal-sonic cybernetic feedback loop, with all human faculties thrown to the wayside. 'Hand To Phone', for example, locks us into a communicative-cybernetic stasis, with spitty acid 16ths betraying the mood of becoming affective chasers of electromagnetic signals, unwittingly carrying out the bidding of our new techno-evangelist overlords. The A-sider 'New Object', meanwhile, with its sizzling 808s, transitional fluctuations and hip-hop vocal refrain - "I need you to accommodate my comunication needs" - touches on several layers of objectification at once: sexual, commodification, loss of the ability to speak. Adult truly dealt with adult themes and embraced their recapture into the machine - now you too can own their New Object.

Review: Coyu's Barcelona-based Suara label continues to push the thresholds of hard techno, with this new one by legend Cisco Ferreira under his reknowned The Advent moniker. Brace yourself for The Movement EP, featuring heavy duty sonic artillery that must be handled with extreme caution. From the brutalist dystopian slammer "Witches Spell" to the unrelenting peak time fury of "Live 98 Tour" which is reminiscent of timeless classics like "Bad Boy", to the Detroit style breakneck electro funk of "Same 4" which is a collaboration with his son Zein. Ferreira proves yet again that even after 30 years in the game, he is still miles ahead of the rest - respect!

Review: A new project based out of Copenhagen - Aether's Spring comes shrouded in mystery but makes a bold statement with this first transmission. WATER: Dancing Moon 12" leads in with "House In Blue Rain," a downcast track bathed in melancholic pads and blown out percussion around a steady 4/4 tick. "Dancing Moon" is a more kinetic affair that works with all kinds of synth shapes alongside some primal drum machine percussion that lends the track a new wave quality that suits it just fine. Closer "Throne Of Clay" spreads across the B side in a brooding, journeying epic fit for the likes of classic James Holden or a more wave-minded Jon Hopkins.

Dreams Of Wrestlers (5:44)
Review: A new collaboration of Philoxenia Records founders Luigi Di Venere and Neu Verboten, Affekt Unit is informed by an aim to "spark new feelings on the dancefloor". The three track Discorgy EP celebrates their musical obsessions - Italo house, Frankfurt EBM-house and trance - with the result proving an electrifying crossover of these classic genres together with surprising new sounds. 'Oct-Opus' boasts a serious electro component, fused with progressive trance, UK bass, techno, transcendental rave and even a climactic outbreak of rave-era breaks. The title track 'Discorgy' draws from Euro dance and EBM, experimenting with a polyrhythmic bass line and bringing the kind of 'stadium house' that The KLF were always aiming for. Closing track 'Dreams Of Wrestlers' is cosmic house at its sweetest and beefiest, spruced here and there with Italo stabs and pianos, drum machine fills and some lovely subtle filtering. Not so much a case of something for everyone than everything from everyone, you might even say.

Review: Thankfully, Richard D. James has decided to finally release at least some of the output that he's been banging on about since mid-2000s. In a number of interviews, the might Aphex Twin hinted that he has vast artilleries of tracks stacked up and unreleased, probably more on purpose than out of laziness...or maybe not. What we do know is that AFX is reborn after the string of acid 12"s released about 10 years ago on Rephlex, that saw the alias become one of the most popular of James' alter egos. Orphaned Deejay Selek is a collection of tunes that contain all of the Twin's magic and unpredictably, but that also cut straight to the point and head to the middle of the dance floor. This is banging brain dynamite coated in the man's iconic style and flair. Welcome back AFX, and many hats off to Warp for making it happen.

Review: Fresh from the label's second release 'Robot Romance', supported by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Fred P, Jane Fitz, Jennifer Cardini, Rossko and more. David Agrella returns via his spaced-out house EP 'Freedom Unfolding'. Remixes are delivered by London favourite N-Gynn (Pleasure Club) known for drawing on left-field, ravey sounds and esteemed German live techno act and Muller Records/Acid Orange boss Beroshima.
Elastic basslines and tumbling percussion unfasten the A-Side with 'Walking Loud' as sinister synths convulse around the beat before N-Gynn provides a frisky reshape with sharp snares, golden keys and subtle, loopy vocal samples on a chuggier tip. The eclectic experience continues on the B-Side with title track 'Freedom Unfolding' as swinging basslines carry dream-like pads and fluttering samples, while Beroshima's acid-infused, broken beat rework provides an anthemic finale to the release.

Review: There sure is an appropriate sense of futurism in these new breakbeats from Ahu. Opener 'Jina' is run through with far-sighted chords that bring to mind the glowing metropolis of Ridley Scott's 'Bladerunner' - it even feels like there's rain falling in the tune as well as subtle celestial vocals and deep, driving bass. and spoken word samples to add that cinematic ambiance. 'Jina (Mahsa)' is soulful machine music - fans of the glorious 69 project of Carl Craig will doubtless dig it - and then 'Nika' rides on a much more rubbery and lovely, lumpy Herbert-esque beat with molten synth melodies and a darker energy. A stylish EP, no doubt.

Review: Spanish artist Aiken returns to his own Timeline label with a searing new four track EP that burrows deep into the night. 'Instruction' is a race to the bottom on spangled synths and baselines that are so tightly woven your mind will fall in on itself trying to keep up. 'The Lesson' is an exercise in tripped-out melodies and hamming hits that never let up and 'Assimilation' is antlers proudly futuristic techno cut that sounds like a factory floor in overdrive. 'Denial' is possibly the best of the punch - a track with scuffed-up broken beats skating over ice as bright little melodic phrases hint at hope up top. Sublime stuff.

Review: Japanese artist Hirotaka Umetani serves up four club ready joints here all though a rather distinctive UK bass lens. The Albino Sound EP on Turnend Tapes finds him "translating visual into sound through his own experience. The sound designs is immense, from crystalline leads to hallucinatory synths, tiny bits of sonic grit to perfect designed drums. The rhythms are inventive and minimal to make for hi fidelity and frusta techno that wouldn't sound out of place on Livity Sound. 'Jarring' might be the standout with its twisted metals and tribal percussion over a hefty groove.

On its first release titled 'Techno Mafia', he explores 'mega hypnotic minimalism' as heard on the A-side title track, which makes for the perfect afterhours jam which to get those heads down on the dancefloor. Review: Glasgow based DJ and producer Harvey McKay is up next for Drumcode, with a bit of help from his brother Ryan here as Alias. This will be his fourth release for Drumcode since making his debut for the label back in 2013 with the terrific Lost EP. A staple of such esteemed imprints as Soma, Suara and Bedrock in recent times, the Visions EP is packed full of perfect big room bangers: much like you'd expect from the guy. Kicking off with the industrial strength stomp of "Pentatonic" which is stripped right down to the bone and full of "Spastik" style snare rolls, "The Truth" then gets some Robert Hood style adrenalised cyclicity going on. Finally on the flip, we've got dark and slamming tool techno of "Dream Taker" that goes straight for the jugular. A grinding, hypnotic and downright riveting thriller for the peak time.

Burbling Detroit voices command us to 'attack' through the opening droner 'Attack', an inception boomer if we've ever heard one. Review: Charlotte De Witte's KNTXT label is one of new school techno's most influential and has very much helped to take techno into harder, darker, trance-tinged realms in recent times. Alignment is one of the artists who has helped with that and now serves up more blistering cuts on the Close Your Eyes EP. The title track is a monstrous opener with bright synths and serrated saw-shaped sounds cutting up the flat-footed drums. The hard techno vibes continue on 'Deep Space' and more trance energy washes over 'Dance For Me' which is decidedly 90s in vibe. 'Fight For A New World' closes down with the sort of hands-in-the-air energy of an epic festival anthem.

Review: Word on the street is that Alister is the next big thing to come out of the Motor City. The song writer and producer must be hotly tipped, frankly, because the one and only Omar S has taken him under his wing and recorded and mixed these two new tunes, which are tasters from his full length album to come in the spring. They bare all his hallmarks too - crunchy, dusty drums, rugged chord vamps and prickly perc. 'Starlight' is all that with an added vocal, while 'Matador Beach' is more trippy and nocturnal, with a delicate falsetto lost in pinball melodies and ricocheting hits.

Review: Darren Allen has always operated in his own sonic world with high-fidelity electronics and cultured grooves taking you on deep trips through the cosmos. The Underlying Form label head is now back on his own outlet with another timeless EP that takes you deep down the rabbit hole. 'Over The Rainbow' is deep, warm techno with plenty of deft details over a thudding groove. 'Time Dissolves' is a psychedelic 5am wig out with twisted synths warping around the rubbery, linear drums and bass. 'Think Schwarma' ups the ante a little with more tech-leaning drum slaps and nice smeared synth work and 'Electric Sun' closes out with a skittish percussive energy.

Review: Back in 2016, legendary Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen approached techno pioneer Jeff Mills with the idea of working together. A series of live gigs and off-the-radar studio sessions followed, with the first fruits of their joint efforts finally appearing on this must-have 10". As you'd expect, the duo's collaborative work combines Allen's traditional Nigerian polyrhythms, traditional Afrobeat instrumentation, and the far-sighted, sci-fi inspired electronic futurism that has always marked out Mills' work. The result is a quartet of cuts that could arguably be described as retro-futurist Afro-tech - all delay-laden beats, basslines and organs subtly sparring with gentle acid lines, Motor City electronics, beguiling deep space textures and shimmering, 31st century motifs. It's arguably Allen's stylistic contributions that dominate, but that's no bad thing.

This is an EP of stylish and subversive techno that is meticulously designed and all named after plants. The rhythms are suggestive rather than in your face but never fail to lock you in while you gaze at the fresh synths and unusual sound designs all around. 'Hedera' is first up and floats on air with skittish hits and detuned chords, then 'Oxalis' slows to a crawl that melts the mind. 'Aquilegia' has a sub-aquatic dub techno feel and 'Paeonia' is a double-time stepper.
