Review: WaWuWe is one of many alias of dub techno stylist Sebastian Mullaert. It is revered for his most deep techno cuts and this fifth missive on his own self titled label is another deft and atmospheric offering. 'Track 1' pairs the sort of deeply buried drums that get anyone in a trance but layers some celestial keys way up top. The second tune is less smooth, with a more turbulent bassline and drums that rock back and forth on their heels. 'Track 3' closes with sombre synth drones that make a devastating emotional impact.

Review: An air of mystery surrounds this new While My Sequencer Gently Bleeps project, but what we do know is that they have two superb EPs dropping at the start of 2024. This one, OK, opens with 'Amber' which is a nice undulating and deep cut with lush synth smears. 'Emptiness' hangs synths in the air over more lithe broken beats and 'Felt' is a stripped back rhythm with majestic chords, blurts, bleeps and more all adding colour. 'Hesitation' and 'Burton' round out this sublimely supple and subtle synth record.

Review: Waajeed's Memoirs Of Hi-Tech Jazz came out on Tresor in late 2022 as a definitive statement from a true Detroit original. Following the Motor City Madness remixes 12" which accompanied the album drop, here comes a follow up single shining fresh light on the project via a whole new set of remixes. There's no need to introduce a legend like Mark Broom - a stalwart of UK techno who brings his decades of experience to 'Right Now' as he remains in an enduring purple patch. Staying in the UK but coming from a whole different angle, Yazzus brings her upfront flair to one of the most compelling, emotionally charged pieces on the album, 'The Ballad Of Richard O'Bryant'. Then it's left to Jensen Interceptor and Assembler Code to link up for a remix of 'Memoirs Of Hi-Tech Jazz', complete with some of Black Nix's original poetic flow over the top.

Review: Waage is a firm favourite amongst dub techno fans. The Icelandic producer has long been turning out icy and atmospheric rollers for the heads and here he works alongside a fresh name, Quantal, who is sure to go on to big things. Here they land on Thule Records, a legendary label in its own right with roots going back to 1995. They kick off with the textured dub of 'WQ1' which has glitchy sounds paying over the rolling drums. 'WQ2' is much more smooth and streamlined, with an underwater current that sweeps you off your feet, then 'WQ3' leans into the wind with hypnotic techno drums and vamping chords that melt the mind. Last of all comes 'WQ4', a timeless dub with infinite horizons and the most frictionless drum loops.

Review: The Take It Easy label returns with a red hot one and limited edition one-sided 12" that features a Bugsy 'ReDrum' of Wema's 'Kiherehere' cut. The original artists are a five-piece Tanzanian outfit founded on community and they have a global approach to sound that plays out here. In Bugsy's hands, it becomes a club-ready cut that fuses house and techno with the original's traditional Tanzanian instrumentals and Afro-Latin rhythms. Add in a fiery vocal and the sort of unrelenting drum funk that sends crowds mad and you have another standout from this fledgling label.

Review: Wheelman started the Glasgow club series Stereotone almost six years ago, which then evolved into a label in 2016. He has since become a staple of the local club scene and released music on Studio Barnhus, Don't Be Afraid and Belters - which furthered his standing in the UK scene and beyond. His latest release is titled Reaching For A Higher Place, which features a selection of emotive cuts: from the dark melancholia of 'Hit' and its factory floor aesthetic, to the low-slung funky disco loops of 'Grey Vision' and the Basic Channel influenced closer 'Train Track' hypnotising you into submission with its cavernous and glacial cyclicality.

Review: On the latest missive from his energy packed Power House imprint, Rene Pawlowitz - he of Shed and Head High fame - has chosen to showcase tracks from two of his lesser-celebrated alter egos, WK7 and Zigg Gonsalezz. As befits the peak-time ready, party-starting nature of the label, A-side 'Wait' offers an addictive blend of bustling, beefed-up house drums, glassy-eyed female vocal samples and sleazy, rave-igniting riffs. Over on the flip we get two distinctive takes on 'Sunday': the classic New Jersey garage meets Nu Groove style deep house warmth of the '3pm' version, and a stomping late night revision (entitled 'Work It') that peppers a chunky, extra-percussive beat with tight electric piano stabs and booming bass.

Review: US techno legend Josh Wink is back on his esteemed Ovum imprint with another potential anthem for the ages in the form of 'Balls Back', a proper heads-down affair with furiously syncopated rhythms underpinning Wink's signature druggy vocals with acidic motifs. Review: Better-known in the Motor City as DJ Gusto, August Williams makes his bow on Detroit's original techno imprint, Juan Atkins' much-loved Metroplex. He first offers up 'The Hook Up', a relaxed electro workout marked out by hip-hop tempo beats, sparkling synthesiser arpeggio lines and gorgeous electronic melodies, before opting for a more hypnotic, dark, clandestine and minimalistic techno sound on superb machine jam 'Dark T'. Williams successfully blurs the boundaries between late-night deep house and sci-fi techno on 'Pushback', while 'Submission' pairs a vintage Motor City techno style groove with discordant, mind-mangling motifs.

It's a five-track with four of them by Max Watts, who has a rueful and synth drenched sound on voyaging deep techno opener 'Small Axe'. 'Dimensions' is a slow and heavy house beatdown, then 'Cherry' brings chugging deep house funk and 'Car Show' is a loopy, ramshackle Moodymann-style bit of house voodoo. Review: Limited Network's Max Watts has cooked up an EP here that has been written with a very specific use in mind - party rocking and DJ battle deployment. it is fair to say these timeless cuts tap into universal feel-good vibes with opener 'Immortal Funk' a perfectly acrobatic and supple wedge of techno funk. 'Karma' has icy drum machine sounds and 80s electro-funk overtones with bright digital synths and a killer bassline all ensuring you cannot help but move. 'Network Not Found' gets more weird and textured for the afters - the writing acid lines and gurgling dub undercurrents kept down only by a sneaking and cosmic lead synth.

It's a mid-tempo electronic sound with dwarves of fizzing synth and filtered robot vocals that bring a melancholic note to the wavy beats. Then Hell himself steps up with his own flipside remix. Review: Mancunian Walton heads to Munich label Ilian Tape for anther of his cutting edge EPs. No stranger to esteemed labels like Hyperdub and Techtonic, this soundsmith once again draws on ambient, techno, bass and IDM across six immersive and cinematic tracks. The first two are largely wide open, cavernous, ambient affairs in which to allow your mind to wander. The inventive rhythms and powerful drums then arrive on 'Dread II' and remain throughout the skittish synth energy of 'Rewind Riddim' and automated factory floor sounds of 'Overload Destruction.' 'Unknown Territories' ends on a more far gazing vibe with pensive pads over scattered kicks.

Review: Todmorden quartet Working Men's Club have long held a soft spot for Sheffield, with much of their music being recorded in the city under the watchful eye of producer Ross Orton. It makes perfect sense, then, that they'd commission an EP full of reworks from Steel City producers. Toddla T kicks things off in fine fashion via a rave-igniting, dancehall-tinged SoYo bass rendition of 'Money Is Mine' tailor-made for the city's Kabal parties, while bleep & bass godfathers Forgemasters deliver a drowsy, atmospheric, post-industrial deep house tweak of 'The Last One'. Elsewhere, Diseasa opts for an angular, industrial electro flex on a fuzzy re-wire of 'Rapture', Orton squelches his way through a tough-as-steel acid house remake of 'Plays', and Charla Green gives 'Fear Fear' a dystopian post-jungle makeover.

Review: Since 2020 Wachita China has been piling on the electro deviance through their own WC label while also moonlighting on the likes of low income $quad. This latest record keeps up the edgy aesthetics and uncompromising machine pressure, veering from the techy stomper 'Along Dancing In The Shoegaze Tample' to the thumping intensity of 'Chinese Takeover', stopping by the broken beats and metallic pings of 'Strobe Sword' and welcoming DJ Disappointed to collaborate on the slightly sweeter synth flourishes of 'Dorsal'.
