Review: Benny Rodrigues is Rod20 and boy has he been busy this year. He started his own self title label to put out some of the 1500 tracks he said he recorded during the lockdown. They all pay homage to techno's functional roots and were made using analogue hardware - always just one specific synth from a selection including Korg Monopoly, Yamaha DX100, Roland Jupiter 8 and others, along with his 909. This is the ninth EP in just a matter of months and they are all brilliant - pure, potent, head melting, high functioning techno with no fads but plenty of character.

Reality (8:04)
Winx (6:52)
Leaves (4:48)
Between Worlds (4:05)
Review: On his previous Exo Recordings Intl outings, the impressively named Ludwig A.F. Rohrscheid has offered up a slew of psychedelic dancefloor workouts shot through with subtle - and, to be honest, not-so-subtle - references to various styles of 1990s electronic music. He's at it again here, too, romping his way through acid/trance/early progressive house fusion ("Reality"), clanking, sub-heavy UK techno (the spacey "Winx"), intergalactic ambient techno/IDM heaviness (EP highlight "Leaves"), and bombastic, out-of-this world, Rephlex style "braindance" (the mid-to-late '90s Aphex Twin goodness of "Between Worlds"). It's a good collection of tracks, with enough variety and inventiveness to avoid the pitfalls of hollow stylistic pastiche.

1994 Is Gone (4:10)
Review: Jack Roland invites us deep into his star-gazing world of "darkness and distorted cosmic visions" on this scintillating new EP for Lonely Planets. 'It Felt Like A Kiss' is one of those quietly intense tunes that trap you at the centre of the spiraling synths and douse you in warmth. There is an aloof feel to the breakbeats of 'Fresh' while 'The Eye Opening' brings subtle vocal sounds and smears them into the cosmic mix. '1994 Is Gone' rounds out with more deft designs and infinite deep techno horizons.

I Am A Dancer (Marc Romboy & Sinisa Tamamovic mix) (6:55)
I Am A Dancer (Skatman remix) (7:04)
I Am A Dancer (Dense & Pika remix) (5:58)
Review: The already well-travelled 'I Am a Dancer' cut that was originally produced by Marc Romboy and C.A.R. and debuted on Kompakt's acclaimed Total 21 album now undergoes some vibrant transformations with three new mixes. Marc Romboy & Sinisa Tamamovic goes first and make it into a steamy, weighty but deep and pulsing track that drips with sweat and lust. The Skatman remix is much more for the big room with its grinding low ends and epic breakdowns and Dense & Pika then bring some unstoppable and rolling waves of techno power to their version. Cheers.

Die Zeit (7:18)
Die Zeit (Synthapella) (6:24)
Review: Names don't get much more titanic when it comes to techno than old school German dons Timo Maas and Marc Romboy. They join their considerable skills for a new single here which is the first of a few to come. 'Die Zeit' does everything you would expect a track from this pair to do - it has the powerful linear drums, the rumbling bass lines and the epic synth craft that lights up a vast sky above. It's a tense rollercoaster with a grand ambition and lasting impact. A Synthapella is also included on the flip for even more of that melodic intensity.

Der Rhythmus (Dense & Pika remix)
Review: Six months after their first collaborative outing 'Die Zeit' in May - also on thyme Systematic label - two bonafide German techno titans have been busy in the studio once more. This time they offer up 'Der Rhythmus' on limited edition splattered vinyl and it is another timeless, terrific and peak time cut. The drums and snares are snappy as you like with distorted bass down low and suspensory arps keeping you on edge as a libidinous female vocal adds the final touches. UK duo Dense & Pika remix with a more stripped-back but not less slamming sound.

Don't Let Go (5:24)
Koox (6:38)
Sanity Regard (5:28)
Review: Mote Eovler has only ever dealt in serious techno and that's what we get here from Roogunit. Across four fierce tracks various different moods and grooves are offered up. It is the brutal drum patterns and brushed metal textures of 'Bash Box' which open up with urgent siren sounds up top, then 'Don't Let Go' is more fulsome and freaky, with funky drums and dark vocals looping up top. 'Koox' then layers in glassy melodies and silky synths that unravel in linear fashion and 'Sanity Regard' is the eerier and edgy closer. This is some serious techno for those who like it proper.

Most Monkeys Live In Trees (Ritzi Lee remix) (5:49)
Stinger (Vil & Cravo remix) (6:06)
Lucid Mind (Mario Berger remix) (5:47)
Review: Leipzig hard techno devotee Oliver Rosemann knows what he wants in his club tracks, and so his Recorded Things label continues to lay out a provocative, potent strain of looped up intensity which keeps a necessary funk in its groove. On this latest release, his collaborations with Alexander Kowalski from last year have been picked up by a host of remixers bringing the heat in their own unique ways. Roll Dann does incredible work creating slippery, grinding hooks in the midst of thunderous propulsion on the remix of 'Stinger', while Ritzi Lee opts for tension and hypnotic pressure creating a new version of 'Most Monkeys Live In Trees'. Vil & Cravo's own version of 'Stinger' keeps the kicks super punchy and lets some catchy riffs circle overhead, while Mario Berger turns 'Lucid Mind' into a tunnelling, disorienting wormhole of the highest order.

Eighty Four (6:34)

Review: There are few more decorated and respected electro artists than Anthony Rother. He has been kicking out the jams for decades and seen many electro trends come and go while doing so. His own sound is in constant flux and next up is an out on Bad Manners that finds him in fine form over four cuts. First is the fizzing and visceral 'Trooper', with bumping drums and robotic vocals firmly nailed to the floor. 'Male Function' is another bulky and macho cut with blistering bass and 'Eighty Four' has thundering synths over rugged drums. 'Com' closes out with an industrial edge.

Burning (6:04)
You Know You Want It (5:12)
Maybe It's Love (5:01)
Stereo Love (3:40)
Review: The highly respected and busy ARTS label has released their latest What Will Remain When We're Gone by Paul Roux. The title track is a melodic burner that succeeds triumphantly with heavy percussion, anthemic crescendos and at a blistering pace. Amazing! 'Burning' is a fantastic as well. Dramatic and engaging, we love the way it favors melody over the supporting rhythm giving it a more atmospheric sound. On the B-side, 'Maybe It's Love' adds some soft-spoken female singing to it giving us strong 2000s era flashbacks. This is a really strong and perhaps underrated 12". Give this the opportunity to play through and you will want to revisit these often. ARTS continues to come through with excellent techno.

Craft Control (7:26)
Review: The eighth missive from Alan Fitzpatrick's We Are The Brave comes from the ascendant Paul Roux, a Barcelona-based producer who follows up impressive efforts on Arts Collective and Rapid Eye Movement. 'Emperia' is an austere offering balanced by majestic Millsian style strings and underpinned by a steely rhythm department, while 'Cosmic Blues' conjures up an evocative and sensual atmosphere on this restrained cut, before returning to the main room with the pummeling peak time onslaught of 'Loveland' which will have you losing your mind under the strobelights.

The Star Masters (7:26)
Hyperion (7:47)
Beyonder (6:52)
Review: Strap yourselves in for this one because the 29th EP from Eartoground is an absolute riot. Rove Ranger hits the ground running with 'Galactus' which is big room, unrelenting techno with giant drums, warped synths and pulsing synths that race along without a hitch at 100mph. Things cut loose on 'The Star Masters' with its hammering drums and twisted metal hooks, 'Hyperion' is back to tunnel vision techno that opens a door to another dimension and last of all 'Beyonder' explores the sort of mind melting, time warping melodic techno that Jeff Mills is so famous for.

Rodiaz - "Space Methods" (5:29)

Rodiaz - "Output Methods" (5:29)
Review: 'Workout' is a driving hard anthem with a relentless beat, ideal if you are looking for prime time techno. Veteran electro/techno fusionists The Advent deliver a remix that adds a chunkier, more loopy dimension, creating a powerful dancefloor weapon. Rodiaz takes a different approach with 'Space Methods', incorporating industrial sound effects and sci-fi elements into a hard-hitting techno groove. The Slam mix intensifies the track with a harder edge and a hypnotic loop, meaning that overall, this EP offers a dynamic blend of hard techno, a perfect addition to any techno enthusiast's collection.

My Brother & His Mate (2:36)
Review: Roy Of The Ravers takes a break from his mischievious outings on Acid Waxa et al to lay down some of his braindance tackle on Emotional Response. White Line Sunrise II.I (Le Roy Soleil) can rightly be considered a follow-up to White Line Sunrise II and indeed it represents a similar kind of spectrum of electronica. Roy's sound is edging further into the kind of 'artist' territory where slower, softer tracks, odd vocal diversions and some pop sensibilities merge with the acid, electro, breakbeat and other well-established tropes of his sound. It's the kind of record which could easily broach this quirky fringe operator of UK electronics to a broader fan base, and there's no doubt he's got the melodic, emotional heft on tracks like 'Versace 101624' to get everyone on board.

Review: Roy Of The Ravers may be best known for his lysergic rave pelters, but there's always been a hint of grandiose melancholy in his synth work that suggested there was more to the machine botherer than tear-out acid beats. Emotional Response worked with the artist in trawling through a vast archive of material recorded between 1997 and 2017, rescued from hard drives once thought lost, and now gathered as a compelling ambient release with the full fat hardware veneer of Roy's work to date, but coming from a more reflective angle. From cathedral-quaking drones to deeply submerged aquatic excursions, this album has plenty to draw you into the inner world of an acid hero.

Furious Frank - "Dripp" (4:15)
Review: The Paper Cuts label has been doing a fine job in putting out head-tripping club and chill-out styles for a fair stretch now and following the Ivy mixtape released earlier this year they're back with this outstanding split release from Roza Terenzi and Furious Frank. Terenzi takes the A-side with her trademark line in electro-minded machine funk rhythms powering gorgeous back room moods, keeping the mix dubby and with plenty of ambient sparkle on top of the punchy drums. There's even space for a little d&b trippiness on 'Total Recall', which also features Noff. Furious Frank gets busy on the flip with 'Splash', a blissed out beatdowns with more than a little Balearic magic in its bones, while 'Moss Rock' turns the heat up for a distinctly 90s slice of acid trance. 'Dripp' seals the deal with another low slung roller from the chill-out room of your dreams.

From the hypnotic and frenetic polyrhythms and psychedelic percussion of 'Infinity Is Natural' to the deep contemporary dub and low end immersion of the title track 'Hara', each cut is inspired by rrao's passion for nature and the infinite loop of energy of past, present and future. Each cut weaves a different south east Asian spell but the big hitter for most will Ramanujan Prime thanks to its unique character, fast-paced energy and beguiling vocal texture.

The Smallest Footprints (7:40)
The Ends Of Weather (6:42)
Nest Of Queens (7:08)
Review: Probably for good reason, techno deviant Rrose isn't as active as he was a few years back. However, we see this as a winning strategy - building and maintain momentum up until the very moment the bombs drop. Back on his own EAUX label, we have three new, blurry technoid structures made for the more finessed ears. "The Smallest Footprints" dazzles and confuses with its constantly shape-shifting groove, guided and supported by an ocean of deep-water sonics and atmospheric harmonies, whereas "The Ends Of Weather" itself sounds like the beginning of the perfect storm, gliding with tenebrous might across its six minutes and 42 seconds of instability and beatless sway. On the B-side, "Nest Of Queens" manages to do very much with very little, launching a minimalistic percussion flex that evolves at its own pace, twisting and convulsing more and more with each new bang of the beat. What a stunner. Be quick, these will go!

Review: TRNWORK is a brand new label from Detroit native Pablo R Ruiz which he says will explore the darker side of the dance floor. The first release sure is a head-turner that opens with 'Bust It Out' (Raw mix). The drums are militant and scuffed up while off-grid claps and woozy pads bring extra dynamism. The Deep Mix then pairs it back to twitchy synths and minimal drums, and then a RELB Infinite Jek remix quickens the groove but keeps it dark, late night and moody. 'Vivelo' is the closer that will trip out any floor with its whirring synths and bleeps over crunchy drum funk.

Contrast
Review: It is a testament to Adam Beyer's enduring love for techno that he continues to serve up choice cuts from his long-running and influential Drumcode label on vinyl. He looks to the talents of Victor Ruiz and Modea for this new two-track 12". Firstly the pair hook up for 'Bloom', a cavernous techno sound that sweeps dancefloors off its feet and floats them amongst subtly uplifting chords while the drums toll on. There are epic melodic overtones to the flip side track 'Contrast,' too. This one will get heads held high, hands in the air and crowds fully taken in with its celebratory atmosphere - until the monstrous drums and acid arrive, that is.
