So, it completely makes sense if you are a newer producer releasing music in these genres then definitely know your fan base. Cool Million is a Danish and German duo doing just that. Their track 'Stronger' is the track and the title of their sixth full length album from 2019. The album has gained such strong reviews that they put it now as a single along with the Dub version on the reverse side. Review: Is there a more positive, soulful and life-affirming dancefloor anthem out there than Roy Davis Jr and Peven Everett's 1996 jam "Gabriel"? As many will be aware, it has long been sought of as a classic, with soulful house, deep house, US and UK garage DJs all championing it back in the day. This white vinyl reissue boasts all of the mixes featured on the original 12". Perhaps the most famous version is the rolling, bass-heavy two-step flex of the "Live Garage" mix that opens side B, but there's plenty to set the pulse racing elsewhere. The driving, jazzy-but-stomping "Words To Give By" version has been annoyingly overlooked over the years, while the "Tambourine Dub" is deliciously sweaty and driving in the best possible way.

Review: The exact backstory of this one is hard to pin down but suffice it to say if you haven't heard Darondo's 'Didn't I' before then as soon as you do you will fall in love. It has previously been released on a 7" entitled 'Edits' by Stefan Trischler aka Trishes back in 2010 but with a different B-side. Here it comes on TLM with a 1773 remix on the flip. The original is a hard-ass funk cut with raw and tough drums and splintered hi-hats all topped off with the aching and soulful vocal sample and some distant lavish strings. The flip side version features Cerebral Vortex and has extra bars that add a hip-hop touch.

Review: A welcome return to action for Nashville scene stalwart DeRobert Adams and his faithful backing band the Half Truths, who between them have released countless revivalist soul gems over the last decade. '100 Yard Dash' is a fiercely up-tempo affair, with Adams' powerful vocals (he's somewhere between James Brown and Teddy Pendergrass) and the band's 1960s style soul instrumentation riding a breakbeat so fast that you could probably play it in a drum & bass set. It is a genuinely ace track all told, as is the more punchy, semi-stomping flipside funk workout 'It's All The Time'.

Review: This record is a re-make of a Carmen Amez disco and boogie gem from 1983. The original goes for well over L200 and isn't even that good a pressing. This cover first saw the light of day as a 12" in September that was only acquired by certain DJs. It soon started trading for high prices as people wondered what the hell it was, who it was by, and whether it was a shifty bootleg. That's all resolved now as it gets a proper out with a freshly re-recorded version with strings, horns, bells, whistles and Vanessa Haynes on vocals. It's a lush bit of floor filling heart swelling disco, funk and soul gold with soaring strings to boot.

Review: If you have ever tried to track down an original copy of this cult Northern Soul classic you will know it will cost you anywhere between L200 and L400 for the b-side, and around L80 for the a-side. They come from 1973 and 1967 respectively and are real classics of the genre now carefully, and cost-effectively, reissued by Deptford Northern Soul Club Records. The opening side is the sound of Jackie in fantastic form. 'Because Of You' is a truly pained tale of love that captures the intensity of such experiences perfectly.

Review: Alfie Davison's "Love is Serious Issue" was famously one of the only records that united both sides of the infamous Northern Soul divide. While the "modern soul" contingent - led, of course, by DJs Ian Levine and Colin Curtis - loved the track's overblown disco production, those still welded to the scene's original sound appreciated the song's driving back track, rousing horns and Davison's impassioned vocal. This timely 7" reissue not only includes the familiar edited version on the A-side, but also the phenomenally hard to find 12" version on the flip. It's this, with its extended instrumental sections and emphasis on the heavy disco-rock groove, which should have you reaching for your wallet.

This time around is Dreamcast who are Davon Bryant in conjunction with Swedish guy Sasac aka King Al. "Liquid Deep" is sexy late night deep funk the way it was always intended and Bryant's smooth as silk vocals are just like... Wow! Review: As the Record Store Day releases keep on getting rolled out at various times owing to various pressing delays, sometimes we're presented with a pearler out of the blue. This is one of them and it comes in the form of a Steely Dan cover. Obviously that is brave territory because not much can be improved upon when it comes to Dan, but Deep Heat's version of 'Do It Again' bucks that trend with super funky styles. It first came on small Detroit label, Cu-Wu, and original copies are hard to find and expensive when you do so be sure to snap this one up.

He was a master instrumentalist who can turn out a tune on any piece of gear and was a regular in his local clubs. He spent time between Selma, Atlanta, where he was born, and Beverly Hills and played with artists like Willie Hutch. This compilation collects together some of his best jams and is an essential pick up for any and all soul lovers. Review: There's a pleasing "going back to his roots" feel about this release from Bristol luminary Rob Smith AKA RSD. Unlike much of the material he's released under the alias, which draws on dub, hip-hop and dubstep for inspiration, this seven-inch recalls the early days of the "Bristol sound", where Smith and Ray Mighty were responsible for producing tons of classic street soul-informed fare. Denise Morgan delivers a superbly soulful, glassy-eyed rendition of Al Green's 'Let's Stay Together' atop an attractive, turn-of-the-90s style street soul beat rich in classic hip-hop breaks, fluid piano and stirring synth strings. The accompanying 'Let's Dub Together' version, a more stripped-back and sub-heavy affair rich in reverb-laden vocal snippets, is equally as inspired.

Review: R&B vocalist Carman Bryant played throughout the United States and was hugely popular. York, Pennsylvania born and raised, she recorded 'Midnight Star' way back when with production taken care of by Cecil DuValle of the Teddy Pendergrass band. The tune never made it out as it was lost when the producer moved to England but has recently been found and gets released here. Review: Sam Diss has a buttery voice that immediately melts the heart. His tunes on the likes of Outta Sight and Kent Dance and albums on Pure Pleasure always sell out. This 7" single was written by the man himself and is one of his many majestic cuts from a career that started in the late 60s and found him recording for the next 30 odd years.
