You Came Thru
Hurry Up Tomorrow
Review: This is a reissue of a rare soul single by The Nu' Rons, a vocal quartet from Salem, NJ who recorded only around four singles in their still-strong career. Surprisingly, 'You Came Thru' was not one of them, and is yet another new single to be issued for the first time via Cannonball, after renewed interest in the band came about sometime in the late 2010s. 'You Came Thru' is a slick and uptempo expression of gratitude for love, while the bundled-in 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' is a comparatively slow and sweet, yet no less tight, paean to the a golden era of love.

Review: The debut solo album by David Crosby of Crosby, Stills & Nash fame, If I Could Only Remember My Name is an ironic title for an artist first striking out on their commercial own. But despite its faux-amnesiac title, this freak-folk opus is actually a striking claim to, not a loss of, personal musical identity. Following the success of 1970's Deja Vu with Stills & Nash, Crosby sought to expound on that album's methodology - hard psychedelic drugs, brushes with insanity, copious studio time - to produce a crisp, profound and multifaceted vision on the intersection of blues, folk and collective music-making, with every legend from Neil Young to Joni Mitchell to Graham Nash in tow. The highlight has to be, above all, 'Tamalpais High (At About 3)'.

Review: Brazilian producer Zopelar is a real wizard when at work in the studio. He has done disco-tinged full lengths, synth-laced house sounds, deeper than deep grooves and now steps up to Sudd Wax with another brilliantly musical EP. It opens with the shimmering pads and free-flowing keys of 'Papaia' which then gets a Byron The Aquarius Jazz Twist mix that cuts even more free and gets even more cosmic. 'Jazz Class' is a funky one with golden chords and astral pads and the flip brings three more house gems laced up with the sort of meaningful melodies you don't often hear in this genre.

Review: It might be one of the most famous hotels in Las Vegas but now the Bellagio lends its name to this new label. The first missive is a delightfully deep and classic house sound from Jacy. 'Sound Of Eleven' is coated in dusty chords and dreamy pads with an early 90s Italia feel, then 'After Dance' adds to the serene sense of hose escapism with more lushness. 'Sometimes' has a nice heavy groove and soft pads that linger in the air with real class. Last but not least is something of a Chicago jacker with 'It's You' layering up the toms. A sophisticated EP with a traditional bent.

Review: Euphonics, an EP released via Restless Planet, is three artists coming together to create a strong look at minimal music today. Adam Collins' 'Drexel' sets the tone with its quirky, minimal grooves and a captivating blend of the strange and the familiar. Christine Benz's 'GB3' offers a melodic respite, showcasing her prowess in tech house. The final track, 'Effluxion' by Intensive Purposes, emerges as the standout piece for us, transporting listeners to an idyllic island paradise with its tribal house rhythms. Together, these three tracks showcase the diversity and innovation within the electronic music scene.

Review: Acid Machines Vol 1 by G303 is the latest release by the long time Dutch label Zodiak Commune and these four tracks, combined, add up to one heck of a wicked acid techno record. 'Acid Dropping' is a crushing piece of acid trance. 'Power Corrupts' is a breakneck speed techno killer - you've got to love the classic Belgium sounding doom to it, it takes us right back to 1992. ' Beelzebub Rising' is a nasty breakbeat heater that is sure to pound down some doors when played loudly. The Squarepusher like 'Walk On By' adds a nice comedown IDM touch to the close of this vinyl. Review: Somewhere between a sauerkraut connoisseur, an ancient Athenian philosopher, and a crate-digging obsessive (we'll assume this is the threefold meaning of the nominal pun until we're course-corrected) Saukrates returns with a new single 'Driftin'' via Love Touch Records. This new limited 7" is indeed as, perhaps even more so, delicious as a jar of pickled cabbage considered in Socratic dialogue. The Juno-nominated Canadian icon is here heard teaming up with producer Gil Masuda, who provides a neo-eighties synthfunk bomb over which Sauks flaunts his singing chops (this is a surprise delicacy, as Masuda is not often heard since his 2006 Big Black Lincoln project). Bursting pianos glide over huge gated digi-snares on this gem, the featureless version of which also appears on the B-side.

Review: Recorded and released in The Netherlands by Gerry Teekens for his Criss Cross label in 1985, Chet's Choice marked one of the best studio albums from Chet Baker's final years. He would die in The Netherlands after falling from the window of his hotel room in Amsterdam on May 13, 1988. Chet's Choice presents Baker, beautifully captured in stereo, singing and playing the trumpet in an intimate trio format with guitarist Philip Catherine (born in England but raised in Belgium, Chet frequently worked with him from 1983 to 1988) and Belgian bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse on most of the tracks (three tunes were taped during a second session with Dutch bassist Hein van de Geijn). This expanded edition presents the full seven tunes from the original album plus three songs that only previously appeared on the CD edition of Chet's Choice, as well as five amazing never before heard alternate takes, which add nearly 40 minutes of unreleased music to Chet Baker's superb catalogue.

He lands on My King Is Light here with a nice and stylish EP that brings dub and minimal to his usual tech sounds. 'Hoarfrost' is an icy and frictionless opener rippled with soft melodies that soothe the soul. 'Hoarfrost' (Meditation dub) is a beatless lullaby, and 'Point Of View' then brings a little more drive but still has plenty of depth to its designs. 'Breeze' is the best of the lot - a nice Bluetrain-style dub-out for the afters.

64-voice 37-key polyphonic altered FM keyboard synthesiser
Notes: A Full-Spectrum Sound Experience

Opsix mk II is a digital synth like no other. Based on the sound engine of the original Opsix, the number of simultaneous voices and voicings has been expanded to an astounding 64 voices. The result is superior performance and precise control.

The Opsix Operator Mixer simplified FM synthesis for the first time, making it not just comprehensible but also controllable. With the addition of extra synthesis capabilities and programming, it offered a more efficient workflow and an even richer sound.

And, it is fully compatible with the sounds and samples from both the original opsix and the opsix Native software, including numerous high-quality libraries.

Evolved to an astounding 64 voices

The Opsix mk II has 64 voices, twice as many as the original 32 voices, allowing users to enjoy tone editing without having to worry about the number of simultaneous voices. In addition, the operator-mixer section, the most distinctive feature of this product, has been accented with a new image colour, green.

Get Illuminated with the Operator Mixer

At the heart of every sound is Opsix mk II's Operator Mixer - a simple set of six faders and knobs that invite exploration. Each part lights up red to indicate carriers or blue for modulators. Manipulating them opens up new sound-shaping possibilities to breathe fresh life into your musical ideas. This straightforward, hands-on workflow is part of what makes Opsix mk II so unique, just like the sounds it offers.

Direct Hands-On Control

Whether you're tweaking a preset or building a patch from the ground up, the six data entry knobs on the right give you quick access to the parameters you need and seamlessly sync with the large OLED display, giving you a clear, focused direction to your workflow. Coupled with the mixer, it makes creating fresh sounds super easy and, most importantly, fun!

Select from a full range of analogue-style filters, from the radical Korg MS-20 low-pass/high-pass filter to the powerful yet smooth KORG Polysix low-pass filter that gives your sound a vintage feel. There are also two or four-pole low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and band-reject filters with resonance.

There's even a built-in spectrum analyser and oscilloscope that gives you visual feedback via the screen on the music you're making.

Six in One Synthesis

The core of Opsix mk II is nothing short of exponential. Since waveforms can be arranged and modulated in nearly infinite ways, Opsix mk II can easily do the sonic work that is similar to numerous types of synthesis:

Subtractive

Removing parts of the sound to get the sound you want; the most widely-used synthesis. Opsix mk II uses up to six envelopes and multi-modelled filters to achieve many cutting-edge and classical analogue synthesis tones.

Semi-Modular

Rerouting signal paths to change the sound. A spin through the Algorithm section will dramatically reshape the sound by changing how the signal routing between the operators work together, and no patch cables are needed. Analog-style controls and plenty of stackable waveforms take you from digital to analogue-sounding in no time. Enjoy deep basses, crisp leads, thick pad sounds, fuzzy brass tones, and so much more.

Analogue (Modeling)

Analogue-style controls and plenty of stackable waveforms take you from digital to analogue-sounding in no time. Enjoy deep basses, crisp leads, thick pad sounds, fuzzy brass tones, and so much more.

Waveshaping

Adding intentional distortion to the waveforms to achieve aggressive overtones that are either harmonic or inharmonic. This will help you achieve gritty, bitey tones dripping with character.

Additive

Stacking waveforms and blending their harmonics is key to an expansive range of harmonious, dissonant, and tension-driven sounds. With six operators available, the complete FM experience is possible, including the ability to go back in time for classic sounds you have heard throughout recording history.

Classic FM

Last but certainly not least, Opsix's highly flexible and powerful architecture starts with true six-Operator FM. As a result, it easily delivers signature sounds you have surely heard on thousands of hits from the '80s on through today, and with far more polyphony than other standalone FM synths available today.

With all of these ways to realize and explore sounds, Opsix mk II is uniquely suited as a "future-modern-classic" synth!

Altered Reality

What started as a legacy synthesis has evolved into something completely different. Opsix mk II is FM-based, but the similarities to the classic synthesis end there. The Altered FM architecture delivers sounds across a vast spectrum, far wider than any single synthesis has been able to cover before, thanks to new sound components; new waveforms, filters, shaping, effects, LFOs, envelopes, modulations, and more, all translating to its broad assortment of sounds.

Powerful Effects Processing

Opsix mk II provides three blocks of 30 types of high-definition effects that you can use together to enhance your sounds even further. There's everything from a great mix of usable standard effects like chorus, phaser, delay, and compressor to some world-class shimmering reverbs that will elevate your sound to the next level.

Polyphonic Motion Sequencing

Opsix mk II features an incredible step sequencer that rivals groove boxes for flexibility and power. Press the PLAY button on any sound and experience the complexity of the sequences! Every Program has its unique sequence stored with it, or create your very own.

You can record up to six notes per step and edit each note's velocity, gate time, and playback timing. Create long phrases or make subtle shifts in timing to emulate strums or drum rolls, something that's not possible on a typical 16-step sequencer. The motion sequencer of the Opsix also lets you record changes of up to six parameters, creating smooth motion changes in sound within a phrase or building rhythms that change dramatically with each step.

Monster Modulation Matrix

The Opsix mk II 's modulation possibilities are genuinely mind-blowing. With six operator modes and 40 preset algorithms, plus the ability to create your own, Opsix mk II offers you dynamic sonic options.

This synthesis is supercharged with the processors that come at the end of the signal chain. The MOD section works separate from the operators, with three EGs and three LFOs; and 12 virtual patches for a wide variety of routing possibilities. Use these features for a huge range of modulation to create swirling soundscapes or add rhythmic motion to your sounds.

Throw the Dice

Use the Randomize feature if you're in the mood for unexpected sonic discoveries. Press the button marked with the die icon to completely scramble the synth's parameters, generating a new, unique sound. You can use the Randomize feature for all parameters or just for the operators, the algorithm, or the sequences.

You might strike gold with your roll, but if not, just try again or use the result as a starting point for your next new sound.

Review: Contemporary drum & bass bringers Response & Pliskin take a break from their pressurised plus-170 numbers for a dreamy foray into atmospheric breaks and liquid jungle. 'Live Ur Life' is a varied EP, beginning with the opening new age breaks of the title track, upon which we're geysered on high over humid rainforests of sound, while an ascendant vocalist - capable of wingless flight and incorporeality at will - accompanies us on our aloe vera-doused journey. Once we approach our quest's mythical, live-giving source, we're met with 'Virtuous' and 'Over The Hill', two raw yet revelatory Pandora's boxes uncovered somewhere deep in the heart of said jungle, and which both channel a dialectically calming yet ominous sound. Closer 'Hate Is Reality' refuses to deny hate as a fundamental composite of our lives, healthily channelling this extreme affect into a measured but heavy amen riffer.

Review: Costin RP may be well entrenched in the Romanian scene, but his sound isn't particularly beholden to the assumed Rominimal sound. On his latest missive for Pleasure Zone he demonstrates this perfectly with the limber synth flex of 'Take Eat', the kind of stand out slice of after hours brain fodder which absolutely deserves its own side of vinyl to stretch out on. The flip side cut is pointedly titled 'Last Moments Of Sunset' and while the balmy, woozy sound may well sink into the horizon comfortably you could just as easily picture it working a warm-up slot in a club or lighting the way through a murky after hours set.

Review: Rupert Hartick made quite an impression with his debut release on Pleasure Zone in 2022, and the eagle-eared out there might have copped his drop on Konfus last year. Now he's graduated to the unstoppable Rawax with a four-tracker of sophisticated tech house for the discerning dancer. 'Sweet Dreams' has a meandering, hallucinatory quality helped no end by the amorphous synth tones shimmering over the top of the slinky, shuffling beat. 'Wiggle System' is an entirely different proposition marked out by snaking electro with a mellow demeanour. 'Smokin Kims' is also electro in its construction, but there's a very different flavour to the synths, which warp and writhe through some exquisite sound design. 'Leftback' maintains the thoughtful, original approach Hartick takes across the release, all while offering a different slant to his productions focused more on brittle percussion and FX tweaking.

Review: Danielle Boutet's Pieces is a mysterious artifact of Quebecois marginalia, self-released in 1985. Seeming to land squarely in the French no wave niche, yet nonetheless defying it through sinister inversions of the form, the reissued album comes as a reminder of Boutet's impressive command over atmosphere and narrative. Arabesque monologues in her native French soar over warblingly warm arpeggios, which sound ready-primed for traversals of Transylvania, while the more languid cuts make use of impressively synthetic emulations of what could otherwise sound like affectedly acoustic instruments, such as the "harmonica" on 'En attendant l'aube'. This is a welcome unearthing of an otherwise unconscious album, made in the space between REM sleep and authentic, out-of-the-limelight living.

Review: Contemporary D.C. punk gets another run for its money with this seven-year anniversary of No Man's 'Glitter And Spit' EP. Emerging from the city's punk scene with the collective voracity of a starved vat of piranhas, the four-piece band came together amid the fallout of prior project Majority Rule, albeit with a similar set of musical-political aims. The EP evidences No Man's sound as huge and clunking, thanks to the nearly slowcore-esque drums and guitars of Pat Broderick and Kevin Lamiell (in its slower moments, at least), yet coming fronted by a toothy, harpish snarl by vocalist Matt Michel, backed up by guest vocalist Maha Shami on one track. The faster moments are monumentally cathartic and powerful; this is by far one of the most intense punk records we've heard all year so far, carrying enough home-headbang potential to evince many a rageful family moshpit from the sound alone, let alone the commentary over the Israeli-Palestine conflict it also bears.

Review: Unlike some edit imprints, Light Touches Records doesn't tamper with classics by adding unnecessary house beats or cheap production tricks, choosing instead to deliver scalpel style reissues whose dancefloor power comes from smart rearrangement and subtle re-EQing. The imprint's latest missive sticks to this tried-and-tested method, offering up a quartet of gospel-fired edits from Andrea Passenger. The producer begins with 'The Top (Higher)', a fine rearrangement of a righteous disco number, before successfully re-animating a bluesy soul shuffler ('Hear My Prey'). Elsewhere, 'Lil Longer' sees Passenger make merry with a Clavinet-heavy soul workout, while 'Giving It Up' is a straight-up, piano-sporting, choir-heavy treat.

Review: More Specials is the second studio album from the Coventry band, originaly released in 1980 and reportedly splitting opinion among their fanbase, although it's come to be seen as a classic containing many of their best loved songs, from ska knees up 'Enjoy Yourself' to the deadpan reggae of 'Do Nothing'. Produced by the band's own keyboardist Jerry Dammers, it had a more eclectic and less obviously punk sound than its Elvis Costello-produced predecessor, with the band's constant disagreements on the direction of the sound proving a creative rather destructive force here, even if it would - barely more than a year later - cause them to eventually split.

Fans of Chicago house that are on the jazzy tip are sure to like the title track and 'Work On That Soon' for their ability to move people yet still be deep enough for the discerning house music heads. Our favourite of the lot just might be the ender 'Dreamsville' for its super cool bassline and catchy piano use. This is a strong four tracker that can do some dancefloor damage. A great find.

Review: The debut LP from Oakland, California based collective Leaving conjures the spirit of retro, esoteric doom metal yet repurposed for ethereal, melancholic shoegazing. Formed in 2021, and made up of a plethora of seasoned musicians who've previously cut their teeth in the likes of Noothgrush, Amber Asylum, Graves At Sea, Lycus, and Funerary, the group marry the aggressive post-rock shoegaze of modern peers in Nothing and Whirr, with the oppressive meandering doom of Saint Vitus or Reverend Bizarre. Gloomy, lengthy, dirges of nocturnal depravation, unpacking feelings of isolation, desolation and the looming presence of shadows within our own psyche; a towering debut of cavernous composition, refracted riffage and sonic malaise.

Review: The upcoming eighth and final studio album by Canadian punk and metal rockers Sum 41, Heaven :x: Hell centres on the ultimate duality of their sound. Divided into two parts, the first disc, Heaven, hears a return to the pop punk cant of the band's earlier career, while the Hell-ish second disc reflects their latter-day exploration of heavy metal. Though the name references a dualistic theme, the ultimate goal is the synthesis of the two sounds, showing just how far the band have come in their nearly 30-year career. Lead single 'Landmines', which on the surface of things tends more towards the aforementioned pop punk heaven, captures this tendency, incorporating rapidfire metal fills and deathly vocal snarls.

Review: Tour-Maubourg has been receiving quite a bit of press since their very first release. Often, their records quickly become sought after for their amazing beauty and genre-washing abilities. 'The Panorama Sessions' aims to continue the strong promotion and deliver another home run. Like the name suggests, these are alternate versions of other treasured Tour-Maubourg tracks that were featured on different releases, with this 12" bringing in the talents of the Ismael Ndir on saxophone. 'The Opening' gives us At Les vibes with the brilliant melodic touch, a smoothed out Balearic track that is nothing short of sublime, while 'Ode to Love' is another goosebump creator. These sunset styled interludes expanding into a feeling of light jazz and pseudo house, really work well on our mood receptors. 'Saint The A La Menthe (Panorama version)' is perhaps the most soulful track here, making it a perfect way to close things out. All and all, four unique, terrific new versions of classic Tour-Maubourg material to enjoy.

Review: The debut album from Mississippi soul legends The Natural Four, Good Vibes! deserves this full reissue on Wax Trader, which puts a dent in its former obscurity and rareness. An early LP incarnation of Chris James, Allen Richardson, John January and Al Bowden in unison, the album delivers the posi-vibes it promises and then some. But despite its commitment to a good time, the Four don't fall prey to the idea that such vibes necessarily mean avoiding of slow jams; indeed, star cuts like 'Why Should We Stop Now' are as pleading and longing in tone as they are premonitory of the relationship at hand going well; things get even wild-Wester on 'Message From A Black Man', amounting to a multifaceted take on the stated good vibe.

Review: The highly anticipated debut full-length from Oakland, California esoteric doomgazers Leaving, melds classic psychedelic proto-doom metal with the swelling bombast and mercurial pace of post-rock and shoegaze. Since forming in 2021, the collective made up of seasoned veterans in their own realms from acts such as Graves At Sea, Lycus, Noothgrush, Amber Asylum, and Funerary, have been hard at work crafting the type of menacing melancholy popularised by modern grungegaze peers in Whirr, Cloakroom or Nothing, yet fused to the blues-laden macabre retro doom of Reverend Bizarre and Saint Vitus. Delving into harrowing moments of desolation and the war with the darkness within ourselves, emboldened by meandering, lengthy dirges that offer shimmering sonics and triumphant crescendos both warming and oppressive, Liminal is the type of insidious opus that requires repeat attentive listens before utterly revealing itself.

If you're always searching for those cool and deadly, sexy vocal minimal joints which inject some sass into a long-trucking DJ set you're going to be all over 'Piesa Cu Story', which takes a soulful female vocal lick and builds a slinky, moody groove around. Antraum then shifts the key of the track and adds some trippy shimmer for a perfect after Horus remix. 'Cu O Voce' on the flip is again charged by a strong vocal sample, but here the production is a more bubbling, acid-speckled confection perfect for a late night brain massage, which Ted Amber dutifully buffs into a pinging freak-out for a spicier kind of dancefloor.

Review: Magick Brother & Mystic Sister took inspiration for their name from a serial Gong album, and sure enough this Barcelona-based four-piece know exactly where they're aiming with their heavily psychedelic, tripped-out strain of cosmic rock. Following on from their self-titled debut, now the band are back with the first instalment of a two-part album release called Tarot - so far, so mystic. The groove on 'The Hierophant' is a great place to start in diving into the intoxicating headspace of the band, where some outernational instrumentation collides with the propulsive krautrock-informed rhythm section and the Canterbury scene's affinity for funk. It's a visceral trip no self-respecting pscyhonaut should be without.

Check first A-side 'Keep Marching', where a lightly beefed up and housed-up semi-acoustic groove offers a platform for sweet, bilingual female lead vocals, jaunty guitars and simmering strings. It's a genuine dancefloor revision, but one that will suit Balearic DJs and confirmed party starters as much as dusty-fingered crate diggers and selector sorts. 'Shuffleupagus', meanwhile, sees the mystery artist cut up and tool up a vaguely familiar Latin workout with predictably energetic and party-starting results.

Neo Tantric Parts draws from the deep well of Millsart archives, with 'Tear Drop Nebula' especially benefitting from a new mix as it shuffles percussion and vibraphone chimes around microtonal cascades which give the music a particularly giddy quality. 'The Phonetic World' has a punchy presence without losing that lighter style Mills adopts under this alias, while 'Neptunian Landing' heads into spookier territory with some faithful 909 hats for guidance. The compilation showcases the talent and creativity of several female groups and presents a diverse range of styles from Afrobeat to funk and disco. Review: The clandestine Xenia Reaper comes forth with their debut LP proper, a sprawling anthology of pulsating, sensual neu-ambient beatdowns for club and spa play. Across nine tracks, they traverse terrain from pensive, windswept chordscapes underpinned by resonant carpets of sub, to pummelling, stroboscopic workouts a la Basic Channel. It's a super accomplished tripp, full of pleasure centre-probing sonic shrapnel, waterlogged voices, saccharine synthwork and skittering percussion. A perfect soundtrack for the advent of longer evenings and resurgence of chlorophyll.

Review: Sheffield-based producer Tommy Vicari Jnr. continues to be a wildly prolific producer, bouncing swiftly from a standout EP on the mighty SlapFunk to a link up with another European luminary, Body Parts. There's an instantly identifiable touch to Vicari's approach, where crunchy, crooked swing and squelchy funk loosen up the structures of minimal tech house to become warmer and more soulful than the average functional fodder. 'No You Needn't Explain' is absolutely built to work the floor, but it's also led by a downright nasty synth line taking its cues from electro funk, while 'Issacgroove' reaches for dizzying heights with its own snappy, Moog-esque licks. 'Anytime' feels like a slippery house inversion of Prince's approach to funk and 'Chapter And Verse' offers up something a little smokier for the later end of the dance.

Review: Talented LA producer 1morning makes his debut on the well regarded Character label here and brings plenty of the know how he has picked dup while laying down his superb vinyl DJ sets around the world. He fuses new school funky and tribal techno with subtle hints that suggest he has a love of 90s originators like Ben Sims and Dave Angel. 'Samba De Verao' is a dense, high intensity sound with skewed synths and dusty hi hats while 'Flux' is more deep and has throbbing drums and smeared pads fleshing out the groove. On the flip are two more emotionally intense and fantastically engaging techno cuts.

Review: Now this one's one to feast your ears on. After successful releases on Ba Dum Tish, What NxT, Dark Side Of The Sun and Interweaved Records, Boss Priester comes back strong with the 'Trixy' EP on Salty Nuts. A four-track bonanza of whimsical whackouts, the concept here could be described as speed garage blended with a sound effects board controlled by Mr. Oizo in a Banana Splits outfit. 'Trixy' is the right name for it; though not itself a word, the coinage captures something of the trickiness of 4x4 and the tricksy connives of a psychedelic con artist. Indeed, Priester acknowleges this one's 'Not 4 Every 1', but that doesn't stop him from engaging the lightest-footed and -hearted samples and one-shots, whether they're chimpunked aporias or springy fidgets.

Ride The Night
Review: Barcelona mainstay Baldo originally released 'Ride The Night' as part of digital single Saturdays Come And Gone on Permanent Vacation in 2022. As a fierce and fabulous homage to Hi-NRG, it showed the most muscular, nocturnal side of Baldo's sound and the track took on a life of its own. Now the label have decided to give the track more prominence with this heavyweight vinyl remix package, which kicks off in style with a suitably throbbing workout from Red Axes before switching to the strutting big room style of Alex Neri. Jennifer Loveless zeroes in to the sensual heart of the track with a thrumming low end and a powerful command of the tension in the track, leaving it to Baldo's original to close the EP out in style.

This 13th release showcases Eloi's mastery of deep house and jazz influences. 'The Great Delusion' sets the tone with its soulful touch and jazzy undertones. Finally, 'I Hope It Ends Well' exudes a laid-back cafe house vibe with its jazzy nuances. Review: The duo of Jim Kotsis and Kate Soulthorn, better known as Saturday Night Satan, live up to their 70s style moniker with a retro-fitted occult-influenced collection of fuzzed out proto-doom death rock. Led by Soulthorn's Wiccan cadence and gothic lyricism, whilst emboldened by the insidiously catchy riffs of Kotsis that squelch with authentic psych bombast, All Things Black offers up a hypnotic dirge of sultry Satan worship that's simply too groovy and and enticing to ignore; like the music we imagine was played at the Manson Ranch.

Review: Baton Rouge, Louisiana based sludge metal behemoths Thou are notorious for their ludicrously prolific nature and the abundance of EPs, splits, collaborative projects and cover versions they insist on peppering around their full-lengths. Ceremonies Of Consolidation offers up a beastly compilation of the three sonically disparate EPs the band would release throughout 2018 in the run-up to their fifth album Magus, which then morphed the differing styles into one cohesive cacophony. Compiling the ambient drone The House Primordial EP, the acoustic Inconsolable EP and finally, the heaving grunge Rhea Sylvia EP onto three individual LPs along with a bonus 10" of previously unreleased acoustic demos from the Rhea Sylvia sessions, this is a weighty, monolithic fan service collection. Limited to only 300 copies, be fast before you end up seeing these flipped on Discogs for thrice the price.

Review: Florin Buchel's work as Contra Communem Opinionem has bridged the gap between seemingly disparate labels like Lux Rec, Mathematics, Drumpoet Community and Photic Fields without missing a beat. More recently, he's funnelled the CCO output through his own label Silum to bring us some EPs of dazzling hardware tech house with ample melodic content to keep the dark clouds at bay. 'Atmospheric Inversion' toys with jazzy discord, but the vibe is primarily soulful and synth-driven, while 'Atmospheric Extinction' heads wholeheartedly towards uplifting chord sequences to get your hair standing on end. 'Atmospheric Pressure' takes a snappier, techier approach but the tools and signal chains are the same, so the pervading warmth of the tracks maintains. This is house music which instinctively connects back to the gritty strain of machine soul pioneered in Detroit - if you're always searching for that quality in your club tracks you won't want to overlook this one.

Review: Florian Meindl has assembled a captivating ensemble of musicians for a remix project that breathes new life into his works. The label Flash has released nine invigorating techno tracks that showcase the limitless creativity of these artists. U Umwelt's remix of 'Assembly Line' is a relentless and percussive techno assault, while Volpe's interpretation of 'Synthetic Memories' charms with its infectious tech house groove and melodic flair. Other great examples are Beau Didier, who injects 'Reconstruct' with a wicked loop that propels the track forward, while Decka's 'Chord Raider' remix exudes a sinister and heavy atmosphere that culminates in a banging crescendo. Schott's remix of 'Metaphysics' transports listeners to an eerie, sci-fi realm with its industrial undertones, while Garb's 'Galaxy Storm' remix ascends to a melodic techno and trance peak time that leaves an unforgettable impression. This remix album is a testament to the versatility of Meindl's original compositions and the talent of the artists who have reimagined them. It is a must-listen for fans of techno and a compelling demonstration of how collaboration can elevate musical boundaries.

Review: Sascha Funke is a long time master of the deep who arrives on the always tastefully diverse Running Back label headed up so expertly by Gerd Janson. He brings a slightly different look here with the wonky, twitchy and tech infused rhythmic stomp of 'Reality'. There is more melody on display on 'Fantasy' with its ever rising synth loops glowing bright with a celestial hue and on the flip-side 'Puzzle' pairs some subtly joyous piano chord stabs over prickly disco-tech beats with molten arps underneath. 'Halle Weissensee' then closes down with a nice stiff and rave ready house sound, snappy beats and tight bass.

Review: Casio City Rockers offers a glimpse into the eclectic mind of Brother Lee, unearthing a treasure trove of musical fragments captured on various devices. Despite the makeshift nature of its creation, the album exudes a raw charm and originality. Lee's sonic experiments blend elements of funk, psychedelia, and lo-fi soul, creating a captivating soundscape that's simultaneously nostalgic and refreshingly unconventional. The album's title track epitomizes this fusion, effortlessly merging Casio's signature sound with the pulsating energy of acid house. Lee's disregard for sentimentality has allowed him to craft a truly unique and unfiltered sonic experience, inviting listeners to embrace the imperfect beauty of his creative process. If you are looking for something unique, look no further than this.
