4ms Ensemble Unified Polyphonic Voice Of 16 Complex Oscillators Module 4ms Ensemble Unified Polyphonic Voice Of 16 Complex Oscillators Module
Cat: 762166 Rel: 18 May 20 • View all Synth modules

polyphonic oscillator module
Notes: Seriously potent polyphonic voice built around 16 sine-based oscillators. Capable of a huge range of tones thanks to FM, phase distortion and wavefolding. Another cracker from a consistently reliable brand.

Supplier's notes:
The Ensemble Oscillator is a unified polyphonic voice of sixteen complex oscillators combining additive, FM, phase-distortion and wavefolding synthesis techniques in new unorthodox ways. By quantizing the oscillators to scales or series of harmonics, the Ensemble Oscillator allows you to explore the sonic boundary between musical chords and rich evolving textures. Easily create a wide variety of sounds ranging from aggregates of pure sine waves to pulsar synthesis or pristine harmonic tones and lush wide chords to rich dirty drones and rumbling glitches. Custom scales can quickly be "learned" and saved using a CV keyboard or by manually entering notes with the controls.

The Ensemble Oscillator is designed by Matthias Puech and 4ms Company.

30 factory-programmed, user-writeable scales organized in three groups:
12TET: all notes quantized to equal temperament, repeating over octaves
Octave: unquantized notes, repeating over octaves
Free: unquantized notes, repeating over the interval between the lowest and highest note

4ms Pingable Envelope Generator Dual Envelope Generator Module (silver) (dual/stereo/envelope generator/clock generator/clock modulator/LFO synth module)
Cat: 589495 Rel: 10 Dec 15 • View all Synth modules

Dual envelope generator synthesiser module - 20HP wide
Notes: The Pingable Envelope Generator (PEG) from 4ms is a dual envelope generator whose envelope lengths are set by incoming clocks or "pings".

The PEG has full CV control of envelope shape, skew, and ping (clock) division/multiplication, as well as a plethora of triggering and cycling options (AD, AR, quantization, cycle), and a tap tempo button for each channel.

Scaling/shifting:
- Scale knob is an attenuating inverter for main envelope output (Maximum 0V to +10V non-inverted, and Minimum -10V to 0V inverted).
- Bi-polar button centers main envelope output around 0V (-5V to +5V output)
- "+5V ENV" jack is a non-scaling output that always produces a 0V to +5V envelope, regardless of Scale and Bi-polar settings
- "OR" jack outputs an analog OR of the two scaled envelope curves. This outputs the highest value from either envelope at any given moment, taking into account the Scale and Bi-polar controls.

Gate outputs:
- End-of-Rise (EOR) gate output goes high when envelope finishes a rise portion, and goes low when envelope begins a rise portion
- End-of-Fall (EOF) gate output goes high when envelope finishes a fall portion, and goes low when envelope begins a fall portion
- Jumper for each channel changes EOR output to a Half-Rise gate output. The Half-Rise jack goes high when 50% of the time of the rise portion has elapsed, and goes low after 50% of the time of the fall portion. Using the Skew parameter, this jack provides a variable phase gate output useful for quadrature effects and clock phase shifting and trigger delay effects. Factory setting is EOR for red channel, Half-Rise for blue channel.

Triggering/cycling:
- Cycle button for each channel forces envelope to self-cycle in sync with the ping clock (LFO mode). Button lights up when in cycle mode.
- "T" jack toggles the state of both channels' Cycle button when a gate is applied
- "QNT" jack for each channel triggers an envelope to start at the next quantized beat, with respect to the divided/multiplied ping clock. Holding a gate high on this jack causes the envelope to repeat.
- "Async" jack for each channel causes an envelope to output immediately (asynchronously). Holding a gate high results in an AR envelope (rise-sustain-fall). If cycle mode is enabled, the envelope will continue to cycle at this new phase with respect to the ping clock. Phase can be reset to being in sync with the ping clock by pressing the cycle button or applying a pulse to the QNT jack.

CV input jacks:
- CV control of Ping Div/Mult, Skew, and Curve using the CV jacks. Respective knobs set the center offset for the applied CV
- CV of 0-10V will modulate the parameter's full range However, a 0-5V CV will modulate the parameter within a very useful range.

4ms Sampler Mono/Stereo Triggered Sampler Module
Cat: 944892 Rel: 06 Jul 23 • View all Synth modules

A variation of the Stereo Triggered Sampler module in 16HP.
Notes: Great value from 4ms's twist on the Stereo Triggered Sampler module, this time capable of playing and manipulating stereo or mono WAV files from an SD card.

Supplier's Notes:
The Sampler is a variation of the Stereo Triggered Sampler.

Record, play and loop stereo .wav files with an SD Card. Includes the same 2022 Sampler Pack from the Stereo Triggered Sampler.

Features:

The Sampler plays stereo or mono .wav files from an SD Card. Samples are arranged into banks by placing .wav files into folders (each folder is a bank). A maximum of 10 samples can be loaded in a bank. There is a maximum of 60 banks (600 samples maximum total).
Sample files are limited to 4GB each, which is over 6 hours at 44k/16b/stereo.

Hundreds of samples included on microSD card
Extremely quiet, low noise and low jitter design
Stereo or Mono output

A knob and CV jack selects the Sample to play, and the Start Position knob and CV jack control where in the sample playback will begin. The Length knob and CV jack determine how much of the sample is played back: from tiny grains, to percussive hits, to longer loops... or just the entire file.

Pressing Play or firing a trigger into the Play Trig jack will play the sample. Holding the Play button down for a second will toggle looping.

There's also a Reverse button and jack for backwards playback, and an End Out jack for synchronizing loops, or cascading sample playback with other events.

To record samples, hold Play and Reverse for two seconds. Press Play again or fire a trigger into the Play/Rec Trig jack to start and stop recording. Each recording will create a new stereo 48kHz 24bit .wav file in the current bank's folder. Recordings can be as long as your card has the capacity for: a 256GB card is 18 days of continuous recording (432.9 hours). Audio data is split into maximum 4GB wav files on the microSD card.

Play button/trigger jack: Tapping the button or receiving a trigger starts/re-starts the sample
Sample CV/knob: select which sample within the channel's bank
Pitch CV and Pitch knob: playback pitch (-10 to +4 octave range)
Start Pos CV/knob: position in the sample to begin playback (loop start point)
Length CV/knob: playback time (loop end point)
Length knob at max: entire file is played
Length knob 50%-99%: 200ms - 5s of the sample is played (beginning at the Start Position)
Length knob <50%: Percussive decay envelope is applied to the playback (attack-only envelope if playing Reverse)
Length <1%: Tiny grains are played (can be used to sweep through sample file data manually)
Reverse button/jack: toggles forward/backwards
Bank button: selects channel's bank
Reverse + Start Pos button/knob combo allows for setting volume of playback
Maximum file size for playback: 4GB per file (6.7 hours per file at 44.1kHz/16b/stereo)
microSD Card is hot-swappable when Busy light is off: no power-down required to change cards.
Samples that are pre-loaded into memory can continue playing while card is swapped.

File Organization:

Using a computer, the intuitive automatic bank loading features make dragging and dropping your entire sample library a snap. No files need to be renamed. Just create folders and put up to 10 samples in each. If you want a folder to be associated with a particular colour of the Bank button, name the folder a colour name (such as "Blue - Loops").

Ships with a high-speed 16GB microSD card, loaded with hundreds of samples created for 4ms, from musicians such as Richard Devine, Wobbly, Moor Mother, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Joseph Pailo, Russell E.L. Butler, Hugo Paris & Marc Kate, Paul Barker, Baseck, Animal Collective, Cristian Vogel, Jay E, Marcus Fischer, Chris Carter, Daedelus, Nero Bellum, Anna Sitko, Thomas Fang, Bogdan Raczynski, and more (Sample List)

Intuitive bank/colour organization system; no need to rename your wav files
Record new samples directly to a bank with the Record Input jacks...
... or drag your folders of sound files onto the microSD card, and each folder will become a bank.
Folders starting with a colour name will be loaded into that colour bank

ACL Gate Mix 4-Channel Audio Signal Mixer Module
Cat: 665164 Rel: 04 Oct 17 • View all Synth modules

4-channel audio signal mixer - 12HP
Notes: Our Gate Mix is a high quality four audio signal mixer with CV/Gate muting, ideal for stacking up super uber patches, cascading other mixers, and, you won't be astonished to read, much much more! A mixer with benefits, you might say. But first let's follow some audio signals through to see how everything flows.

Incoming audio is received via four mono inputs, each of which can be switched on and off manually, or by a CV or gate signal. And because the only thing nature loves more than well specified equipment is childish humor, we made sure each input also has its own large knob (an attenuator, to be precise).

Next, these four inputs are summed into two grouped pairs (1+2 and 3+4), each representing the sum of, you guessed it, inputs 1+2 and 3+4. These two groups are then further mixed into the main mono output signal.

Individual outputs are provided for both of the groups and the main output, all of which sit to the right of an auxiliary input. This simple but elegant configuration allows a number of possibilities, such as sending a signal from the groups to an external effects device and then using the AUX input for the effects return. Or the AUX may be used to receive the signal from another mixer, allowing you to cascade as many as you like. Or you might just want a fifth input for emergencies. And those subgroup outputs also mean it can even operate as a simple but high quality two stereo channel mixer: Channel One's left and right would go into inputs 1 and 3, Channel Two's left and right to inputs 2 and 4, and the sub groups would thus provide the mixed stereo output (1+2 = left, 3+4 = right).

The sound quality throughout Gate Mix is, as with all of our equipment, second to none, and great attention was paid to the switches. Thanks to slew-ramping (essentially a very fast fade in/out), switching a channel on or off (whether with the manual switch or with CV/gate) will never result in unpleasant clicks, allowing real time modulated gating fun - anything from simply switching channels on or off to avoid unwanted noise in quiet sections, right up to full-on choppy gating. Furthermore, the muting can be set to be triggered by high control signals or low control signals for added flexibility. Finally, LEDs for each channel let you know when audio is able to pass through.

We've already given some practical use examples, so rest assured, we won't patronise you by listing all the other cool and useful things our Gate Mix mixer brings to your modular system. That said, stacking up monophonic VCOs to create up to five note polyphony, or summing percussion and bass modules, would not be out of place on such a list! Okay, sorry, we won't list any more...

ACL KAZU II Switching Mode Power Supply Module ACL KAZU II Switching Mode Power Supply Module
Cat: 824261 Rel: 30 Apr 21 • View all Synth modules

Switching mode power supply module - 4HP
Notes: KAZU is our party-size switching power supply for smaller Eurorack modular systems. Top or rear mounted, it provides up to 1A at +/-12V and 0.5A at +5V, with an exceptionally low noise-floor,
and the kind of reliability you want from a small, portable system.
When we sat down to create our first complete system, System 1, we quickly realised there was something vital missing from our line-up: a compact power supply suitable for smaller Eurorack systems. So we sat down, again, and designed one.

(NOTE: If you read our System 1 page we claim we didn't need to make any modules specifically for that system. Alright, you've got us... this was the only exception! Okay? But at least it sticks to our 'problem solving' design philosophy!)

Anyway, so there we were, sitting down to create a power supply. And this wasn't quite as easy as it sounds, of course - there were some things to consider.

Clean energy

Our slimline PSU had to match the quality of the rest of our range. It needed to provide very clean power, with minimal interference, noise, and ripple. Even at high loads, there had to be very little heating, so as to ensure optimal performance of our other modules, without influencing their sound, and avoid damaging them, even in compact enclosures. For the same reason, it needed over-voltage protection and short-circuit protection. Naturally, it needed to be compatible with international voltages. And it needed to do it all in an ultra-slim 4HP format.

We're pleased to say we achieved our aims, and KAZU is the result. As is shown in our System 1 and System 2, it is even versatile enough to place on the rear panel of a compact skiff enclosure, freeing up even more space on the top panel for more interesting things than power switches!

Now, if you buy a System 1 or System 2 you'll get a built-in KAZU anyway, but we recommend it for any small Eurorack case where reliability and consistency are important. And surely that should be every small Eurorack case?

ACL M/S Matrix Module (silver)
ACL M/S Matrix Module (silver) (dnamics/effect/mixer synth module)
Cat: 665160 Rel: 04 Oct 17 • View all Synth modules

Synth module for converting stereo material into M/S format - 10HP
Notes: The ACL M/S Matrix module is able to deconstruct a conventional stereo signal, consisting of a left and a right channel, into its mid and side signals. The other way round it can convert a M/S stereo signal to L/R stereo.

For that reason the module has four bi-directional sockets which carry the left, right, mid and side signals and are either inputs or outputs, depending on the mode of conversion.

When you play with the individual levels of left and right, classic panning happens. Something different happens with M/S: A change of the Side signal's level will change the stereo width while changing the Mid signal's amplitude will make the centre more or less present but the side signal will remain unchanged!

For instance turning up the S signal from zero to max will continuously convert a centre mono signal into a wide stereo signal.

The module offers individual level control for each stereo channel which can be controlled with potentiometers and voltages

Besides the aforementioned different compression of mid and side you might as well process stereophonic reverb and change the stereo width of the reverb tail.

ACL Mini MIDI USB MIDI To CV Converter Module
Cat: 776679 Rel: 06 Aug 20 • View all Synth modules

MIDI to CV converter module - 4HP
Notes: Mini MIDI
Want to connect your modular system to USB MIDI equipment or computer-based DAWs? Simultaneously? We did too.

With over 20+ modules and three complete modular systems in our portfolio, you'd be forgiven for thinking we're a bunch of purists, roaming the studios of Berlin by night, looking for unsuspecting copies of Ableton Live and Cubase to infect with viruses.

But nothing could be further from the truth. We love analogue hardware, and we also love the power and creativity of DAWs. We love the power and creativity of DAWs, so we've long dreamed of a module to bridge the gap between our computer, modular system, and USB MIDI devices. So we made one.

It's small, and it's MIDI

Mini MIDI draws aesthetic inspiration from a runway model... or a drumstick... or the Taipei 101. Basically it's tall and thin. Nevertheless, this simple, space-saving format contains no less than seven connections: Pitch, Gate, CC, Start, Clock, USB Device, USB Host.

Pitch and Gate are self-explanatory, taking MIDI note information (pitch and note-on/off) from your DAW / keyboard / keytar / USB-whatever, and turning it into something your modular oscillators understand.

CC receives note velocity, aftertouch, or continuous controller information from USB and spits out modular-friendly CV, ready to command anything from filter cut-off to LFO rate.

The CC value to be converted is set using rear panel DIP switches, allowing multiple Mini MIDIs to respond to different CC values from the same DAW / instrument source. You can select from 13 different CC values (if you're superstitious then Mini MIDI is not for you).

The remaining three DIP settings access three additional modes: Note Velocity and Aftertouch modes convert those signals to CV, while Calibration allows precise setting of scale and pitch offset.

Start(stop) and Clock offer no surprises, but if you have a sequencer in your rack you aren't looking for surprises, just a way to trigger it and keep it in time from your DAW and other kit. If this is you, you won't be disappointed.

USB Device lets you connect... wait for it... a USB MIDI device! An obvious use is when you want to use your favourite, gig-friendly, USB controller on stage to control that cut-off, thus keeping your real-estate-guzzling modular rack out of the way (and out of reach of that beer you have perched on a cheap M-Audio controller).

USB Host is the heart of Mini MIDI, bridging the gap between your modular system and a MIDI host device, such as a DAW or hardware MIDI sequencer.

Channel X

We thought hard about MIDI channel assignment. DIP switches are wildly impractical, as you often need to change MIDI channels. A front panel selector would increase the size of a module that's designed to be squeezed into the far left of your rack. (Far left, BTW, because then you can use angled USB connectors and avoid thick cables trailing all over your rack... ). In the end we used 'first come, first served'.

On powering up, Mini MIDI sits patiently waiting for a MIDI signal. Whichever channel it detects first - from Host or Device - is the assigned channel (if your kit is dishing out ALL channels, Mini MIDI will pick the first one... which is 1). And this assignment applies to both USB MIDI connections.

Play nicely with others

Mini MIDI also works perfectly in conjunction with other Mini MIDIs (via multiple computer USB ports or USB hubs). They show up in your system with unique IDs, so each can be triggered by different MIDI channels and/or CC controllers. This can be used to send the same information to different modules/racks in your modular set-up, different information to the same module/rack, or any combination of these. And it can incorporate other USB devices.

Another insanely useful feature is the ability to play your modular set-up live, with a MIDI keyboard or controller, whilst simultaneously recording this information into a MIDI track in your DAW.

Some ultra-modular-types might complain that this is cheating, but they should remember that our grandparents insisted anything made with machines wasn't 'real' music. Chill out and enjoy the possibilities!

Size isn't everything (and other cliches)

Despite its modest appearance, diminutive size, and total lack of front panel controls, Mini MIDI is an exceptionally powerful, highly flexible, and immeasurably useful little module. We designed it to solve the kinds of problems we encountered when using similar modules, and, critically, the kinds of problems our users said they had with other such devices. Consequently, we've exceeded our initial expectations. We hope you feel the same!

ACL Pan Mix Stereo Mixer Module
ACL Pan Mix Stereo Mixer Module (dual/stereo/mixer module)
Cat: 776671 Rel: 30 Jun 20 • View all Synth modules

Stereo mixer module - 12HP
Notes: Pan Mix is an expandable solution to two simple problems: How can I manipulate multiple audio sources in the stereo field with minimal fuss? What happens if the number of audio sources increases?

Sometimes you don't know you need something until you need it. And so it was when we built our acclaimed stereo-focused System 1. This dual-oscillator system can pump out 10 simultaneous waveforms... so up to 10 mono audio sources, even before you add the Dual Delay and other modules.

So we soon realised that it's all very well having huge potential for dynamic and evolving stereo patches, but you need a simple, expandable way to mix, pan and balance them in the stereo field. And, those of us with additional instruments and kit need an easy way to combine and mix our sexy stereo patches with the rest of our gear.

What we need is Pan Mix.

Side-to-side and up-and-down

The connections and controls couldn't be simpler. Four inputs let you combine four mono sources, two stereo sources, or one stereo and two mono sources, or more (for more, scroll down).

ach input lets you pan the signal left and right and control the signal level (with about 1.5dB of signal gain beyond 1).

Then comes Pan Mix's ace-in-the-hole, an Aux input. This takes a stereo input and adds it (at unity gain) to the output. You can cascade as many Pan Mix modules as you like, creating a versatile and expandable mixer that grows with your needs. And the Aux can also be used to integrate other modular racks or external instruments and effects.

Dare to mix different

Pan Mix is a simple module with a simple purpose, but there are always creative ways to use it. Its four mono plus stereo auxiliary inputs can be pressed into service as independent mono summing mixers too, so you might use it for 2x 3-into-1 mono summing, or 1x 2-into-1 and 1x 4-into-1, or a single 5-into-1 (with various possibilities for the other mono path).

And these are just the options with a single, un-cascaded Pan Mix in your rack...

And that's it...

In the end, what Pan Mix lacks in the 'imaginative name' stakes, it more than makes up for in the 'really damn useful' and 'surprisingly versatile' realms.

ACL VC Dual Amp Dual Discrete Linear VCA Module ACL VC Dual Amp Dual Discrete Linear VCA Module ACL VC Dual Amp Dual Discrete Linear VCA Module
Cat: 734882 Rel: 18 Jul 19 • View all Synth modules

Dual linear voltage controlled amplifier module - 10HP
Notes: VC Dual Amp is not just a VCA, it's two great VCAs. Amplify signals with unrivalled, oscilloscope-grade accuracy, free from colouration, distortion and bleed. Meanwhile, the DC-coupled signal path allows CV-scaling while the dual topology allows creative crossfading and more.
There's an old saying in modular circles: you can't have too many VCAs. But we think that should say 'you can't have too many great VCAs'. And that's what we set out to make - two great VCAs, in one!

Dual VCA delivers unrivalled clarity of sound, amplifying an input signal insanely accurately, without any colouration, distortion, or bleed.

But before we explain why, let's be completely clear: we know VCAs are one of the least sexy elements in a modular system (although slightly more interesting than power supplies and busboard, perhaps). Still, they are essential, and have a dramatic sound-shaping role.

And there's always room for some new ideas, as we've set out to show.

Classy form

At a glance, things still look pretty simple - four knobs, five inputs and three outputs - but below the surface is what we believe to be a completely new approach. Let's take a closer look...

The ACL VC Dual Amp module comprises two identical fully discrete linear VCAs. The VCA design is an entirely new circuit, unlike any we have encountered before, based on the kind of circuits found in highly precise measurement devices like oscilloscopes, then adapted to allow gain change with external CV.

A VCA with benefits

And we didn't just go to all this trouble to be different! Our design offers significant performance advantages:

very low THD (in the whole linear gain range)
lower noise than conventional designs
no crossover-distortion (thanks to a class-A operating mode)
no overshoots or ringing (because we avoid global feedback for operating point stabilisation and linearisation, using local feedback instead)
very low CV-feedthrough (due to excellent common-mode rejection)
no audio-feedthrough from the Input to the Output
very high dynamic range, offering plenty of headroom
extremely high bandwidth (0 Hz to 20+ kHz, with no amplitude drops, phase-shifts, or filtering)
completely DC-coupled signal path (consequently there's no high-pass filtering of low frequencies and the unit can also be used for CV-voltages).

Elegant form

Layout-wise, VC Dual Amp has matching controls for both VCAs: manual control knob for gain and an attenuator-control for scaling the CV-input.

The audio and CV inputs of VCA 1 are normalised to VCA 2. In other words, if nothing is plugged into Audio 2/CV 2, then the signals from VCA 1 will be recreated there. This is very handy for creating voltage controlled crossfade effects, voltage controlled stereo panning tricks, and other similar processes for which one or both VCA 1 and VCA 2 utilise the same signal.

VC Dual Amp also features a completely DC-coupled signal path, which means it can also process control voltages via the audio in, further expanding the creative possibilities. For example, it could be used to modulate the depth of another modulation, such as velocity-modulated amplitude or the LFO modulation depth of a VCO pitch.

Finally, in addition to the individual outputs for each VCA, there is a Sum-output combining the signals of both, plus the signal from an Aux-input, allowing three different signals to be mixed together. And, of course, these can be audio or CV/control signals.

Smart is sexy

Okay, so we've already admitted that no VCA is pin-up sexy, but by now we like to think you'll agree that this is the kind of VCA that is attractive, fun and interesting enough to have a long and meaningful relationship with. And at some stage we'll all be glad to have some of that in our lives.

ACL VC Panning Amplifier Audio Signal Processor Module
Cat: 665163 Rel: 05 Oct 17 • View all Synth modules

Audio signal processor module - 14HP
Notes: Our Voltage Controlled Panning Amplifier is unlike many of our modules in that it actually sounds more complex than it is, as opposed to the other way around. But that doesn't mean it's not powerful!

It is designed, quite simply, to dynamically position audio signals in the stereo field. It can operate on either stereo or dual mono signals (in effect, turning the module into two standalone VCAs), and can accept two simultaneous independent CV controls in either configuration.

At first glance, there may seem to be an awful lot of inputs, outputs, and knobs for such a simple purpose as panning, but they allow a number of creative possibilities. And you probably won't be surprised to hear that we backed it all up with a secret weapon (more on that in a minute).

Feature-wise, the module has two exponential response VCAs, each with a manual or CV gain control and input level attenuators. You can pan these two signals manually or using CV (with a dedicated knob to control the amount of CV panning control). In addition, the CV1 and IN 1 signals are normalised* to CV2 and IN 2 (allowing, for example, simple mono-to-stereo panning effects without additional signal splitting/doubling). Finally, once you have achieved the stereo perfect balance, both channels' gain can be simultaneously adjusted with a single pot (or CV), preserving the relative levels of both.

Naturally, there are many potential uses for this module, including even some not confined to stereo processing (simultaneous gain processing of two different audio signals using one CV control, for example). Panning is what it's really about, though, and so a more conventional use example might involve applying fast panning modulation. With this in mind, our secret weapon ensures that neither manual nor CV panning causes a level drop in the centre of the stereo image.

Correcting for this 'pan-power-law' is far from standard in such modules, but ensures the perceived volume of a panned signal will not change, even if panned hard left or right. This has an especially noticeable effect when the panorama is modulated. It goes without saying, as with all of our modules, the VC Panning Amplifier is designed for low distortion, low CV feedthrough, and low noise, and features overload indicators, ensuring that any extremely intense signals running through the modules are entirely intentional!

ADDAC System ADDAC107 Acid Source Synth Voice Module ADDAC System ADDAC107 Acid Source Synth Voice Module
Cat: 944224 Rel: 14 Sep 23 • View all Synth modules

A synth voice module in 9HP.
Notes: A fresh twist on a simple 303-style acid synth, featuring a triangle/sawtooth/square wave VCO, multi-mode resonant filter, simple AD envelope and a VCA which can be overdriven. Excellent value.

Supplier's Notes:
ADDAC started this module with the idea of developing a complex drum source however, somewhere along the process, it was clear how much better it performed as a synth voice and this lucky accident was embraced.

It features a VCO with a [FREQUENCY] and [FINE TUNE] knob plus a dedicated CV Input and Attenuator knob (tunable over 4 octaves).

The VCO waveform output is achieved by selecting either a Triangle or Saw through a switch. the selected waveform can then be mixed/balanced against the square wave. The resulting mix is then sent to the Filter.

The Filter features a [CUTOFF] and [RESO] resonance knob plus a Cutoff CV Input and Attenuverter knob.

A 3 position switch is used to select the filter type: Highpass, Bandpass or Lowpass.

The resulting output is then sent to the VCA.

The VCA features an Input with [INPUT GAIN] knob which at maximum can amplify the incoming signal by a factor of 2.

This is a very important control, it accepts any signal Trigger, Gate or CV. Whatever input is plugged in the signal is then fed through an AD with a very short attack and controllable decay through the [VCA DECAY] knob plus the CV Input and Attenuverter knob. The resulting slewed signal is then used to control the VCA gain.

This signal is also sent to the CV OUTPUT as well as the LED monitor.

The Accent input adds to the Input signal creating a different amplitude output.

The CV OUTPUT is normalled to the Frequency and Cutoff inputs.

Tech Specs:

4cm deep
80mA +12V

The [INPUT GAIN] knob

Usually Attack/Decay envelopes have a maximum voltage of +5v, no matter if the input gate is +5v or above the AD will clip at +5v. In this case, this clipping method was not used, and instead ADDAC allowed the incoming voltage to determine the maximum AD voltage, meaning that if a +5v gate is present then the AD maximum voltage will be +5v but if a gate of +10v is sent then the AD maximum voltage will be +10v.
This also means that with higher input voltages the decay, although falling at the same speed, will be longer than with lower voltages as it has a longer range to go back to 0v.

As previously mentioned, The [INPUT GAIN] knob can amplify the incoming input by a factor of 2, allowing to use a standard +5v gate or envelope and being able to make the resultant AD go up to +10v.

The AD signal is responsible for opening the VCA. Up to +5v the VCA will open to unity gain above this value the VCA will start to amplify and eventually saturate and distort. This saturation will add harmonics to the signal which will change its gentle timbrical nature to a more unique and peculiar timbre that will make the module shine in Acid contexts.

Adding high levels of Resonance or even filter self oscillation in combination with high VCA saturation will create even more harmonics that ADDAC highly encourage the user to explore.

Clock generator/clock modulator/LFO/quad/comparator synth module
Notes: Complex gate and CV generator designed as a trigger source and modulation tool. Based around four sine wave LFOs that mix together and interact to create ever-changing patterns.

Supplier's Notes:
In 2009 John Berndt coined and defined the term Relabi in his essay "Relabi": Patterns of Self-Erasing Pulse, these are his own words: "Relabi, Def.: The experience of a palpably coordinated plurality of events that appears to be cyclical but simultaneously suspends identification of a uniform pattern, preventing a resolved sense of pulse. Relabi therefore seems equally pulsed and unpulsed at the same time. It is an experiential gestalt, a quality of experience, greater than the sum of its parts (it forms a sustained unity in experience, albeit of a new kind)."

He also makes the question: "Why would anyone want this Relabi experience? I maintain that much of what is exciting in musical forms involves an interplay between the setting up and denying of pulse expectations."

Inspired by this idea, ADDAC System developed this module that is both a gate/trigger and cv generator that can be freely used to trigger events or act as a complex modulation source. Four Sine LFOs are internally generated, each has controls for gain, frequency and mute(off). These 4 LFOs are then mixed together to generate what Berndt named the "Relabi Wave" this "wave" becomes a complex bipolar CV source. This i5v bipolar "wave" can be monitored on the 2 dedicated leds and is also available at its own Output.

Make sure to check the User's Guide for indepth description, working behaviour and diagrams.

ADDAC System ADDAC702 Dual VC Filter Module (black faceplate)
Cat: 776359 Rel: 08 Sep 20 • View all Synth modules

VC filter module
Notes: Here's our first Voltage-Controlled Variable Filter, inspired by the original MS-20 filter.

This module features:

Two independent filters, a High-Pass and a Low-Pass with dedicated audio inputs and outputs.

Besides individual outputs the HP and LP are also sent to a voltage-controlled Mix between the HP and LP filters.

Both Cutoff and Resonance are voltage-controlled with dedicated cv attenuator pots.

Switch for selecting between normal cutoff behaviour and an adjustable Smooth circuit to simulate a vactrol behaviour for cutoff control.

Switch for setting filters Filters in Parallel (independent) or Series (HP > LP).

Inspired by the Oscar synthesizer we added a Coupling switch to tie the HP Cutoff control to the LP Cutoff control, in this case the LP cutoff controls act as an offset from HP setting.

Three position switch selects different resonance clipping paths: diodes / no clipping / leds.

Both filters features a post Distortion/Fuzz circuit that adds extra harmonics adds an even deeper growl or extra gritiness to it.

All audio outputs (HP, Mix, LP) feature a switch for choosing phase output, allowing additive or subtractive mixes.

Three Leds monitor the amplitude of the three outputs (HP, Mix, LP).

ADDAC711 is a dual channel Isolated DI box and is all about keeping the sound coming into your Modular free from any undesired noisy interferences, making sure that what you’re getting from your inputs is what your external hardware is actually producing.
Notes: ADDAC711 is a dual channel Isolated DI box and is all about keeping the sound coming into your Modular free from any undesired noisy interferences, making sure that what you're getting from your inputs is what your external hardware is actually producing. It provides galvanic electrical isolation between the Modular system and external sources preventing impedance mismatch and ground loop induced hum. ADDAC's 711 circuit is designed around a unity 1:1 type Low-cost Audio Transformer operating in the 20 Hz to 20 KHz range, this impedance matching transformer provides two fully balanced outputs (via XLR connectors).

There are two independent channels on the module with:
Audio Output
Signal overload warning led
LIFT/FLOAT/GND toggle switch
Gain control
XLR Input

The LIFT/FLOAT/GND 3-way switch lets you choose between lift, ground or floating ground. In the LIFT position (left) the module circuit will be "lifted" to ground through a 100R resistor and a 10nF capacitor. In the FLOAT position (middle) Ground will not be shared leaving ins and outs grounds completely apart from each other fully isolating both signals.
In the GND position Ground will be shared between inputs and outputs, here no isolation is used. Any of these three positions may be the best form of avoiding ground loops or any other undesired interference occurring between your modular and the external hardware. Try out which one of these options will work best in any given situation.

The importance of using Audio Transformers

Applying a transformer balanced input isolation has lots of advantages over other less expensive ways for dealing with ground loop issues. This method provides the chance to set a very simple and cleancircuit in which the signal transfer process develops smoothly and humming free. The transformer is a device that performs both signal balancing and high-to-low (or vice-versa) impedance conversion, while rejecting straggled DC voltage and Radio Frequency Interference from signal passing through a magnetic bridge. In a transformer, two (or more) coils (called windings) of insulated wire wound around a magnetic metal core allow for its input(s) and output(s) not to be physically connected together. When an AC signal passes through the input winding (the primary), a perfectly related AC signal appears on the output winding (the secondary). This way, by the fact that signal flows via inductive coupling between the two windings of the transformer, this module presents a most accurate electrical isolation between its input and output. A same number of windings on each coil guarantees that there's no gain loss when audio signal passes from the primary to the secondary windings. Furthermore, since these two windings are insulated from each other, the transformer will electrically isolate ADDAC711 from any other device, preventing hum problems coming from an outsider ground. Being a low-cost transformer the frequency response curve is not completely linear, still the -0.2dB
attenuation at 50Hz feels negligible.

ADDAC713 stereo discrete mixer
Notes: Inspired by the legendary Moog CP3 mixer, the 713 tweaks the old-school discrete circuits into three stereo inputs and one mono channel, summing to stereo with adjustable feedback and clipping to add character.

Supplier's Notes:
ADDAC713 is the stereo version of ADDAC System's 703 Discrete Mixer.

Inspired by Moog's CP3 mixer, this is a fully discrete analogue mixer and it's not, by any means, your standard breakfast mixer, although it can behave like one.

This is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Despite its harmless looks there's a dark snarly soul behind that panel that wants to take your sounds into a realm of gritty gnarly growls.

This new version was initially thought of as a percussion mixer, with mono inputs and panning, to allow placing percussive voices in the stereo field, while keeping channel 4 in mono for low end sources like a kick drum or Bass. In the development process ADDAC System slightly changed this initial idea, adding stereo inputs for the first 3 channels, but still kept the 4th channel in mono.

All four [GAIN] controls go to extreme levels, the first 3channels also feature [PAN] controls. Feedback is used to overdrive the whole mix. As the control is turned clockwise the sound will be clipped harder until it goes completely off, this happens as feedback is increased the audio bias reference also moves up, at extreme levels it offsets the whole signal upwards until it completely goes above the top rail clipping the whole signal hence the resulting gate effect.

The [MASTER OUTPUT] sets the overall output gain of the mixer, the two leds monitor the audio output signal. The Soft clipping switch engages an anti-click circuit which adds a low pass before the output, the switch allows 3 states: Soft low pass / Off / Hard low pass.

Features:

Three channels with stereo inputs, gain and pan knob
One channel with mono input and gainknob
Feedback/gate knob
Master output volume knob
Soft clipping switch
Two Led Monitors for Left and Right channels

Four channels of function generator, oscillator, slew limiter, envelope, and VCAs.
Notes: A clever hybrid of quad VCA, function generator and more in this chunky module. Four channels of oscillators, envelope generators and VCAs, plus slew, voltage sources and plenty of CV control.

Supplier's Notes:
Four channels of function generator, oscillator, slew limiter, envelope, and VCAs. This module brings the ultimate in flexibility as it can be used as a standalone synth voice, a massive amount of modulation, or a four channel envelope generator w/ mixer. We believe this makes QARV a great first module and a great addition to the largest of systems.

All four channels have the following features:

Uni-polar oscillator mode
Attack and release time control via potentiometer and via input jack
Shape control that controls shape for both attack and release
Output attenuverter
VCAs that normal to each subsequent channel (CH1 -> CH2, etc.). So you can get a mix of all four channels out of the CH4 VCA output (unless you patch a VCA output from an earlier channel)
Channels 1 & 4

Voltage source (CH1 - 5V & CH4 - 10V)
CH1 & CH4 can be switched between IN (slew mode) and TRIG (envelope) mode
RISE and FALL gates. You can use our G&T module to turn these gates into triggers.
Channels 2 & 3:
