Review: You'd be hard-pressed to find a collection of euro house and dance music more chock-full of hits than this. In the vein of the early 90s dance compilations, Music On Vinyl gathers two discs packed with landmark dance records and massively popular crossover tracks like Haddaway's 'What Is Love', 2 Unlimited's sports arena classic No Limit', Snap!'s timeless 'Rhythm Is A Dancer' and the worldwide hit 'Pump Up The Jam' by Technotronic. The great thing about this release is the inclusion of many other lesser known but memorable gems like T-Spoon 'Sex On The Beach' and Twenty 4 Seven's 'Slave To The Music'. A whopping 27 tracks in total to take you back to the days when dance music owned the airwaves and the clubs.

Review: King's debut album, Steps In Time, is an infectious energy bomb of new wave dance pop. Led by the standout single 'Love & Pride,' the album delivers a vibrant collection of tracks that are sure to delight fans of the genre. While 'Love & Pride' undoubtedly steals the spotlight with its irresistible hooks and infectious energy, the rest of the album holds its own as well. The songs are all well constructed and grow on you with repeat listens like longtime fans of the album have realized. After 40 years, they still hold plenty of entertaining moments for those who appreciate the new wave meets pop sound.

Review: Originally released at the turn of the new millennium, America's Volume Dealer marked the sixth full-length from North Carolina sludging southern metal legends Corrosion Of Conformity, and would be the last to feature longtime drummer Reed Mullin before his return a decade later in 2010. Noted for being the band's most accessible or "radio-friendly" project due to the more polished production and increased reliance on melody, there's no denying that while the dank stoner-heft grooves of old are largely absent, the more alternative rock-leaning approach to their signature brand of metallic, southern blues, in hindsight, was a remarkable breath of fresh air within their back catalogue.

Review: A great choice by Music On Vinyl - whom at this point have proven their mettle at sating the desires of almost any type of past music enjoyer - Chapterhouse's 'Whirlpool' is the debut studio album by the English shoegaze band, and thoroughly deserves this case of retrospection. In just nine tracks, the quartet of Andrew Sheriff, Stephen Patman, Simon Rowe and Ashley Bates established a hugely maximal sound, stylistically nailing the form by pairing its vacuuming vocal washes with more propulsive, hard-limited mixes and masters, informed by industrial and dance music most notably. Contemporaries of similarly tersely-named bands like Lush, Moose, Ride and Curve, Chapterhouse were indeed the most multi-syllabic, not to mention least restrained band out at the time; standouts 'Pearl', 'Autosleeper' and 'Falling Down' nailed the explosion of '90s indie ferment and the overflow of emotions that came with the decade.

Review: You can trust Music On Vinyl to put out the very best soundtracks, from the least likely sources. That Blade Runner soundtrack reissue a few years back was an absolute treat for us, to cite an example, but this edition of the Call Me By Your Name soundtrack is even more leftfield. After all, it's no surprise because the film had an insanely on-point score that never made it onto vinyl format; songs from the likes of John Adams, Giorgio Moroder and Franco Battiato are a wonderful thing to own on wax, within the concept of this remarkable movie, alongside other great tunes from coveted producers like Japan's Ryuichi Sakamoto. All in all, a fine catch.

Review: Message From The Country marks a pivotal moment for The Move in 1971, signaling changes on the horizon. The album showcases the band pushing their sound to its limits, incorporating intricate harmonies, lush arrangements, and Beatles-esque influences. Led by Jeff Lynne's songwriting and arranging, the record exhibits a charmingly ornate yet accessible blend of rock and pop-psych elements. Despite facing challenges as a reduced trio and shifting away from live performances, the Move delivered their most complex and cohesive album. From the post-psychedelic title track to the driving energy of 'Ella James' and the airy pop-psychedelia of 'No Time,' each song contributes to a unified and powerful listening experience. Message From The Country holds its own against the White Album with its blend of musical innovation and accessibility. While it may have been overshadowed by the emergence of Electric Light Orchestra, the album remains essential for fans of the Move, ELO, and Roy Wood alike.

Review: You don't have to be a film score obsessive to recognise the name of Hans Zimmer; the man who has practically created a monopoly out of the craft. While his work on the recent Denis Villeneuve adaptations of Dune has currently ended his creative partnership with auteur filmmaker Christopher Nolan (who has since enlisted the exceptional Ludwig Goransson in his stead), during their collaborative tenure, no particular score garnered the adoration and passionate praise that still continues to be heaped upon 2014's sci-fi spectacle Interstellar. Featuring some of Zimmer's most mercurial work to date, swaying from lilting hues of delicacy to bombastic, palpable, otherworldly dread, without ever veering into alienating sonics; the pieces still receives copious applause, instigate enthralling discussion and continue to be repressed to vinyl. In short, the Interstellar score is the outlier soundtrack for every collector.

Review: Formed in the early 60s and initally recorded at the now world-famous Studio One studios in Jamaica, Heptones are most famous for bridging the genres ska and rocksteady.. In 1971 they left to work with Lee 'Scratch' Perry and found international success with re-recording and or updating many of their tracks again. Cool Rasta was their first new recording for the legendary Trojan Records in 1976, an album that has all the hallmarks of early ska - see 'Do Good To Everyone'. Elsewhere, 'Dreadlock' is a great example of their rootsier side, and the the album is not short on political, conscious messages either with tracks like 'Black On Black' and 'Suffering So'. Cool Rasta is an album that always hits the mark - and this version comes with limited hand-numbered copies on 180-gram orange vinyl.

Review: It's surprisingly not that common for a director to pick music for their movie. There are accomplished experts at scouring and sourcing the most powerful and moving tunes for cinema, and, of course, composers who have established themselves as maestros of silver screen scores. Luca Guadagnino is an exception to the rule, then, with his coming-of-age drama, Call Me By Your Name, soundtracked via his choices. And what choices they are. The film itself is beautiful and incredibly moving, adjectives which also apply to the accompanying sounds. From the theatrical pop of Loredana Berte, to the staggering instrumentation of Ryuichi Sakamoto and heartfelt cries of Sufjan Stevens, this collection of tones is as varied as it is captivating from beginning to end, and - whether you've seen the flick or not - deserves a place on everyone's shelf.

Review: A year shy of its 40th anniversary, Inspiration Information enjoys a reissue and it's still as sparkly and soul-laden as it was in 1974. Ranging from the guitar-twanging smoky blues funk of "Rainy Day" to the sultry, strutting title track, it's largely regarded as Otis's most comprehensive work of that time. According to legend it took him three years to create... 39 years later and it still sounds as good as this? We'd say that's time well spent!

Cuckoo
Review: Cuckoo was their second full length from Curve - Toni Halliday on vocals and guitar with Dean Garcia - and saw its release in 1993. This album was heavier, focused and featured stronger, more aggressive rhythms that evolved from their first album. Heavily influenced by bombastic urban and electronic beats but favouring shoegaze effects on the guitars, making for a unique combination that made Cuckoo stand out from the rest, ultimately predating similar sounds from bands like Garbage. This album holds key tracks like the amazing 'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus' as well as the singles 'Missing Link' and 'Super Blaster'. The effects of Curve are still being felt today by those who discover them and fans of the producer Flood should definitely be aware of this album if they are not already. This reissue comes on limited numbered 180- Gram pink & purple vinyl LP complete with an insert.

Review: On Your Feet Or On Your Knees was the band's first compilation and helped them shoot to stardom. With the rise of successful greatest hits albums, the label at the time pressured the young band to bring out a collection of previously released music, with then 12 songs featured here the result of collecting three songs per prior album that the band felt were their strongest. This album features some of the most beloved live songs by the band like 'Buck's Boogie'. For those that are new to the band, this is a great introduction to the history of BOC prior to their landmark hit 'Don't Fear The Reaper' smash the following year and this reissue comes on silver & black marbled vinyl.

Review: US3's debut album Hand On The Torch was a landmark record when it dropped back in 1993. At a time when the world was getting to grips with sample culture, Blue Note reached out to the London-based crew and gave them access to the archives. With such a rich pool of source material, they got busy strapping iconic breaks and licks from one of the great jazz stables to crisp beats. There's a lot of ground covered, with hip-hop jams sidling up alongside funky beatdowns and plenty more besides. It's a stone cold classic given the reissue treatment, bringing the likes of 'Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)' back to life for a new generation.

Review: For many young film lovers today, Call Me By Your Name might have just been their first ever experience of homosexuality represented on film. It also put heartthrob Timothee Chalamet on the map, so it's not a film without its dues owed to it. Few still know of the star-studded cast of soundtrack pieces cobbled together for the film, in some cases commissioned, in others licensed from prior recordings. Notably, original compositions from the likes of Sufjan Stevens and Ryuichi Sakamoto make up the atmospheric bulk of it, largely centring on hauntingly beautiful piano pieces tempered by transitional voices and well-controlled rooms. Elsewhere come a smattering of romantic, synthy, Euro classics from FR David's 'Words' Franco Battatio's 'Radio Varsavia'.

Review: Toots and the Maytals were sent back to Dynamic Sound Studios in Kingston for new recordings that eventually gave rise to the album after their Funky Kingston success. It features a number of covers of material aimed quite specifically at the English market such as John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads." Though first recorded in 1974, it still packs a punch and of course delivers plenty of the Jamaican band's melodic reggae with beautiful vocal harmonies. The whole thing oozes soul and is underpinned by a certain sense of spirituality that makes it all the more alluring and enduring.

Review: Following on from 1989's majorly successful and admittedly more commercial sounding fourth full-length Intuition, Trondheim glam metal-tinged hard rock heroes TNT would find themselves on the radar and eventual roster of Atlantic Records, who in 1992, would distribute the band's fifth album and first on the major label, Realized Fantasies. Praised by fans for its exceptional production with ludicrously bombastic percussion the whole way through, the project saw a sonic retracing of their more hardened edges, so as not to lose sight of their creative prowess. That being said, cuts such as the cheerful 'Easy Street' and epic ballad 'Lionheart' seem like they were purposefully designed to keep snooting record label execs off their proverbial backs. Never mind what glassy eyed nostalgia-baters say, Realized Fantasies goes hard as hell while delivering barrages of riffage, melody and playfully epic grandeur.

Cutting founding member Graham Oliver's almost two decade tenure short by one year, the LP would be the guitarist's last with his bandmates after it was discovered that he had overseen the sale of a 1980 live bootleg to which he kept all profits. Not very cool, and not very metal, but thankfully his last licks across this record are very much both.

Silver Town is their fourth studio album and it gave rise to several singles including 'A Place in the Sun' and 'Rain Steam & Speed.' There is a distinctly British feel to the happy-go-lucky tunes, with musings on plenty of uniquely English things grooves that bring to mind a good old knees up in a barn. Review: Nina Simone has rather been written out of popular music history because of quite how confrontational and proudly Black she was. She was just as far ahead of her times musically too and this legendary album Baltimore shows why. It arrived with no promotion and no lead singles and so it was an utter commercial failure, but the sleuths of the internet have rediscovered it over the 45 years since its release and helped to make it a cult favourite now regarded as one of the best in her oeuvre. It has distinctive reggae production and of course plenty of beautiful vocals from Simone as she tackles songs written by Judy Collins, Hall & Oates, and Randy Newman.

Review: Eddie Harris was an iconic American jazz musician who revolutionised the genre by introducing the electrically amplified saxophone. With a prolific career spanning over 50 albums, Harris seamlessly blended jazz with funk, earning Grammy Award nominations for two of his groundbreaking records. Among them, the 1983 release People Get Funny..s' stands out. Featuring tracks like 'People Get Funny When They Get A Little Money' and 'La Carnival' which exemplify his signature jazz-funk fusion with captivating vocals and scatting, it las has other gems like 'Silver Plated,' which showcase a more traditional jazz-hard-bop style. Accompanied by talented musicians like drummer Carl Burnett, electric pianist William S. Henderson III, and bassist Larry Gales, this limited edition release of People Get Funny... is pressed on translucent pink vinyl.

Review: British rock band Atomic Rooster - made up from members of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown aka organ player Vincent Crane and sticks man Carl Palmer - had success in the 70s and 80s. They went through some mad stylistic changes in that time but remain best known for their hit singles 'Tomorrow Night' which hit number 11 in the UK charts and number four gem 'Devil's Answer', which both came in 1971. Neither of them feature on their self-titled album and debut from 1970 which itself made the Top 50 of the UK album charts, but it still packs a real punch with a prog rock feel.

Review: Armin van Buuren has had the fortitude to stay true to his values throughout an unrivalled DJ career, in which he was voted DJ Mag's #1 DJ more times than anyone in history. In addition to never-before-seen techniques in his live shows and concerts, Armin has always had his number one priority be the music itself. And so, with a deep respect for his loyal fans, Armin set out to create a different kind of record: one in which the fans played a key role. He reached out during his radio show and through his website and social media, giving the fans and the fans alone the chance to determine the tracklist of this compilation album. And they responded in droves. While each listener's top five Armin-favorites may be different, combined these are the fan-voted, greatest Armin Anthems of all-time.

Review: Donald Byrd's Street Lady was released originally in 1973, and at that point the American great had already penned some 20 odd albums. But the 70s marked his move into the funkier side of things and to this day, this album remains one of his most widely loved and important. It's a rich source of samples for a wide range of artists and the opening tune was used smartly by Detroit great Theo Parrish, while tunes like 'Miss Kane' and 'Sister Love' are still huge. Street Lady is as iconic now as it was back first time around with the same going for the experimental sounds of 'Witch Hunt, while 'Woman Of The World' ends on a gentle, euphoric stride.

Review: It could have all been so different when Death In Vegas first formed. Richard Fearless and Steve Hellier spawned the project in 1994 and got signed under the name Dead Elvis, but legal wrangling got in the way and they used the name for their debut album instead. Now Music On Vinyl have repressed the 1997 classic so we can revel in the grizzled take on big beat and trip hop the pair cooked up. It's very much of its time, but there's a snarl to the production which sets Death In Vegas apart from their peers at the time, opting for the dive bar ambience over the festival main stage you'd hear when playing The Chemical Brothers or Leftfield. For that reason Dead Elvis has aged very well indeed.

With seamless transitions and expertly curated selections, van Buuren captures the essence of the trance scene in 2023 with all the usual hallmarks - from uplifting melodies to driving beats, euphoric atmospheres to epic synth lines. As such this it a must-listen and more proof no one quite knows the genre like Armin.

Review: English heavy-metal band Diamond Head was formed in Stourbridge by guitarist Brian Tatler and drummer Duncan Scott in 1976. Part of the new wave of British heavy metal, even the most famous bands in the category - Metallica, Megadeth, etc. - acknowledge Diamond Head as among the few pioneers to popularise the sound after a long nascence, not to mention their creditors. On Borrowed Time, one can hear that Diamond Head are still informed by ballad rock, highlighting the mid-heyday developments of the sound in the 1970s. Now reissued by Music On Vinyl, this edition is faithful to later versions, adding their signature song 'Am I Evil?' into the mix; the cherry on top to an already amazing, formative heavy metal album.

Review: American r&b and jazz fusion singer, arranger, musician, composer and conductor Dexter Wansel made an indelible impression with his debut album back in 1976, Life On Mars set a new standard for fusion sounds while also serving up what is still considered a space-funk classic. More than that, though, the album which was inspired by David Bowie's Life On Mars also has the seminal 'Theme From The Planets' on it - the drum beat from which is often said to be one of the foundational beats for the hip-hop scene that emerged soon after. As such it's not a shock to know that the record has been sampled endlessly by greats like Drake, Ice Club, Lil Wayne and Kanye. Stick this one on and prepare to be wowed all over again by Wansel's masterful use of his ARP 2600 synthesizer.

Review: Recognised as one of the most prolific jazz pianists of all time, Herbie Hancock played with greats such as Donald Byrd and Miles Davis. He was one of the first to embrace and master the electric piano. He bounced back and forth between his electronic and acoustic sound, touching upon almost every development in R&B, funk and jazz while retaining an original and distinctive voice. Fat Albert Rotunda is the eighth album by Hancock, released in 1969 and his first release for Warner Bros. since his departure from Blue Note Records. The music was originally done for the TV show 'Hey, Hey, Hey, It's Fat Albert' and was a noticeable change in style - incorporating soul music as the basis of his compositions.

The slick licks of a young Mr Lif on "Nosferatu", the post-apocalyptic tension of "Univearth" the sludgy, swampy cosmic hip-hop of the Aesop Rock-featured "Kill Switch" and the unashamed sax sex of "Slit Of Cloud"..... Do we need to go on? Limited edition, 180g transparent vinyl; even if you already have this in your collection this is a very, very appealing investment.

Review: The US' Music On Vinyl always provides the quality reissues, and best of all, they do it quietly, leaving the diggers and owners of the original copies still relatively chuffed with their treasures. As such, it's the Yellow Magic Orchestra that receives the reissue treatment this time, a Japanese electro-pop outfit formed in 1979, and which includes the great Haruomi Hosono on bass - producer of the timeless and mind-bending "Hosono House". Solid State Survivor was the band's second album, and although it was released before the start of the '80s, it already contains remnants of electronic dance music as we know it today. The glassy opener is called "Technopolis", for example, and the majestic synth twists of "Rydeen" are a pleasure to our ears even today. There are slower, more magical moments such as "Castalia", but the winner for us is probably "Insomnia", a great piece of drunken drum machine drums and wonky melodies. An absolute must, even for the non-Japanese heads.

Through his Dread At The Controls label he released reams of incredible dub and roots reggae himself, with World War III surely one of the highlights. Review: It's difficult to understate the originality running through everything Tim Buckley wrote, played, and sang. Tragically invited to join the 28 club back in 1975, in the nine years he was actively recording and touring he offered some of the most forward thinking folk music of that time. Which, considering just how busy that scene was then, is certainly saying something. Goodbye & Hello is an archetypal example, because in many ways it feels so anarchic.Yes, this is definitely a product of its day, but in the best possible way. Sending ferocious rock 'n' roll crescendos crashing into country-hued journeyman stuff, traditional folk, jazz, psychedelia and so much more. A testament to just how fertile the decade was, it's remarkable that today his name is often only referenced by the most devoted music historians and back catalogue diggers. So, if you're new here, this is an introduction you should not turn down.

Review: An artist so effortlessly apt to reinvent herself such as Laurie Anderson should be more than any other worthy of the reissue treatment. Music On Vinyl here present the legendary New York musician and performance artist's 1989 avant-garde album 'Bright Red', which followed a brief stint in the chart-worthy realm of pop. Co-produced with Brian Eno and informed by her then relationship with Lou Reed, Anderson's musings on love, landscape and death are more than submerged in Eno's proto-ambient pop and reverb techniques. It's also yet another stalwart album in vocal synthesis, with cuts such as 'Puppet Motel' showing off Anderson's longstanding penchant for gender-bending throat mods.

Review: K's Choice released their ten-year retrospective compilation back in 2003. It drew together all their finest moments from the proceeding decade but gets the full reissue treatment here with limited numbered gatefold 180 gram and coloured wax. The Belgian rock band hail from Antwerp and in their heyday mixed up alt-rock, post-grunge and folk rock on a series of albums that went gold and platinum in various countries around the world. This collection has all the big, stadium-sized tunes as well as the more quiet moments of introspective calm. It's a great reminder of a band that had a big impact at the turn of the millennium.

Review: J.J. Johnson became an acclaimed talent after working on several best-selling rock steady and proto-reggae 45s by the likes of Lee 'Scratch' Perry, the Rulers, Carl Dawkins and the Kingstonians. His productions had never before been collected together until this compilation from Trojan Records in 1969. It showed the reggae master's new and fresh take on the tried and tested sound and was dominated by tunes from well-known and frequent hit-makers the Ethiopians. The likes of Roy Shirley and the J.J. All Stars also feature and are taken from 1968 to 1972.

Review: We can only begin to image how Silverchair felt taking to the stage at Chicago's legendary Cabaret Metro. It's 1994, and the band aren't even old enough to buy a drink (members are still only 15), but their spectacular debut, Frogstomp, has already positioned them as Australia's great post-grunge hope, meaning a venue famed for seminal shows by scene deities like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins - among others - would mean the world to the young upstarts.
Live was the resulting album, initially released on promotional CD only, packing seven tracks of pure on-stage energy, cacophony, and guitar-first dirt, alongside a special bonus bit at the end. Available now for the first time ever on black plastic, with just 5000 copies pressed, it's what you might call a veritable piece of 1990s rock history.

Review: Americana, also known as American roots music, is a mixture of genres that blend together into a distinctive roots-oriented sound, culminating in what might also be understood as 'all the microgenres that went into the melting-pot that was the USA before it had established any semblance of a national musical identity'. This compilation for MOV collects all of the musical ingredients that went into this melting pot: a foot of newt from John Mellencamp, an eye of bat from Towned Van Zandt, a tongue of dog from Gene Clark, and a final sprinkling of contemporary national identity from Band Of Horses. A nostalgic experience, full of reverence for days past (and present).

Review: Huge guitar solos, a not-so-subtle hint of seduction and romance, rousing choruses and an attitude that screams: "I'm gonna make that heavy metal hand signal every five or six minutes." Warrant may not be the first name on everyone's lips when it comes to the heyday big room, sexually charged glam metal, but when all is said and done they did pretty well during their seven years in the game.
Emerging from the Los Angeles scene of the mid-late-1980s, a city that has a lot to answer for in these musical ends, by the time they packed up their Fenders and called time more than 10million albums had been sold, with the double-platinum Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich the real gem of the lot. Dog Eat Dog came along a little later, in 1992, and by this point the group had really got into gear. Don't expect the same tangible hunger and impact as the inaugural effort, then, but in many ways this is far more complete example of what they were gunning for.

Review: American soul man Bilal dropped his debut album in 2001. Back then, r&b and neo-soul were in their golden times and Bilal was one of the best in the game. The singer songwriter was of course part of he influential 90s collective The Soulquarians alongside members D'Angelo, Q-Tip, Common and Questlove and some of those feature here as well as the likes of Robert Glasper. Production was taken care of by none other than Dr Dre alongside Raphael Saadiq and J Dilla. Lead single 'Soul Sista' toped the US charts and remarkably this is the first time the album has ever been available on vinyl.

Review: Sopwith Camel are one of the pin-ups of the San Francisco psychedelic rock scene of the late 1960s. Their debut album came in 1967 but it is their second and last full length The Miraculous Hump Returns From The Moon from 1973 that gets reissued here. Fans consider it a next level work which might explain why a good copy of an original will cost you a few quid these days. It's a record - and really one of the lost classics of the era - that has stood the test of time and still bangs today for the way it so uniquely mixes up FM schmaltz, prog-rock, jazz, showtunes, Krautrock and Indian classical music.

Review: Ministry have always enjoyed playing with album titles - 1989's The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste being one of the best examples. They've also evolved from a synth pop outfit at the turn of that decade into one of the pre-eminent industrial rock and metal bands of the following ten years, a process that helps them stand out among a scene that became increasingly saturated as time progressed.

Never by-numbers, then, and always looking to experiment with effects, samples, and structure, on stage their reputation for being uncompromisingly Ministry precedes them, and here's at least some form of proof. Sphinctour (lol) is an 11 track album containing recordings from various live shows across the globe, each of which invokes the atmosphere and gargantuan power of the outfit in question, with the only real problem being the fact you probably weren't there to see these shows happen.

Review: The second full-length from New Jersey thrash metal outfit Whiplash arrived courtesy of Roadrunner in 1987, a mere year after their breakneck paced debut 'Power & Pain'. At this point in the late 80s the scene already had genre classics such as Metallica's 'Master Of Puppets' and Slayer's 'Reign In Blood' to contend with, making it a free for all of pummeling thrash acts doing their utmost to not get lost in the ether. While some often cite 1989's 'Insult To Injury' as the total showcasing of their prowess, Ticket To Mayhem is testament (no pun intended) to the myriad of vital bands that kept the thrash movement pulsing beneath the major heights and laurels of a select few, with Whiplash finally receiving the praise and credence they had initially earned so many decades prior.

Review: With roots in a band called Shake Appeal, who were informed by The Stooges and MC5, among other late-60s garage rockers, by the time we got to Mezcal Head, Swervedriver's second album, the group had turned their attention to what was blowing up Stateside. Taking a lead from the likes of Dinosaur Jr and - to less of a wall of sound extent - Sonic Youth, they combined elements of then fertile grunge and shoegaze scenes, to make a noisy but coherent whole. Released in 1993, the sophomore record first hit on the mighty Creation Records, which is a seal of approval if ever there was one. While still failing to really penetrate the mainstream, everyone from NME to Alternative Press heaped praise on the work, and listening back it's easy to hear why. Rough and ready guitar work meets a lackadaisically cool atmosphere, energy like a coiled spring at times.

Review: Although they're widely considered to be a shoegaze band, Chapterhouse were quite wide-ranging in their sound, and that's best demonstrated on their run of EPs. Music On Vinyl continue their mission to reissue all these landmark records from the early 90s, and so we come to the third record, Mesmerise. Ahead of their debut album, this four-track selection speaks to the unique space the band occupied between the baggy sound from Manchester and the ethereal grandeur of shoegaze. It's a sound which has a strong nostalgic tint from a modern perspective, truly a product of the time with a rose-tinted power to sweep you away. Just put on 'Precious One' and try to resist the sentimental swell.
