Originally a band, sometimes abbreviated to NWW, since 1978 the English act has explored a range of dark and brooding styles, including industrial, dark ambient, drone, and noise. Well known for sound collages - usually pretty intense in nature - influences come from the dada and surrealist art schools, cabaret music, John Cage, The Beach Boys, Krautrock, and Musique Concrete. She & Me Fall Together In Free Death is, in this instance at least, the highly anticipated reissue of the landmark album which proved just how good NWW is at all forms of song craft. Work here edges into the eerier end of Liars collaborating with Tom Waits' at his most experimental and that's really clutching for reference points. Quite unlike anything else you'll buy today, we promise.

Review: It's astounding to think that Mother 2 was released in 1994. A landmark moment for the SNES video game system, it arrived five years after its predecessor, and as such enjoyed the benefits of what was then a next generation platform. Felt in terms of graphical and gameplay capabilities, suffice to say the upgraded hardware was also capable of capturing much more engaging and imaginative music. Here we are, almost 30 years on from when this sequel first captivated people, and the score itself gets a re-release on vinyl. Again drafting Hirokazu Tanaka and Keiichi Suzuki as composers, the pair would later explain how much more freedom they had due to the technological progress made between this and its predecessor. Translated into a music review, think deep, atmospheric ambient constructed from many layers of sound. A futuristic sonic trip into the far reaches of the cosmos that still holds up within the genre today.

'Music Fur Cats' showcases Key's songwriting depth, followed by 'Wind On Small Paws' with its electro-industrial sci-fi vibe. 'Meteorite' offers glitchy beats. Familiar tracks like 'Bird', 'Blotter', and 'Greenhouse Gasses' provide accessible listening, albeit experimental. 'Music For Cats' is gritty and against the grain, yet melodic. While not mainstream, it's an intriguing, well-crafted release, appealing to experimental electronic enthusiasts and completists alike.

His adventurous experiments have landed on labels like L.I.E.S. and Kode run by Traxx and collide punk, noise, wave, hardcore, slow beat and jakbeat. Review: The Verve label is pressing up records according to popular demand at the moment and next up is a Wayne Shorter gem. The American great's Footprints Live! is a mix of sounds from three of his European dates back in 2001, a series of shows that also served as an introduction to his 'Footprint Quartet' featuring pianist Danilo Perez, bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade. Each of the talents shines through here with a particularly challenging re-imagination of the title track, as well as 'Masquelero', which are both originally from when Shorter was a part of the seminal Miles Davis Quintet back in the 1960s.

Review: Talk about taking your sweet time. Anyone want to hazard a guess at how long Blinking Lights & Other Revelations took to finish? Thought not. In truth, Eels started work on it in 1998, but it wouldn't see the light of day until 2005. Marking the start of a new era for the band, contractually at least - their deal with David Geffen and Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks Records having dissolved the previous year - the album was high concept, too.
As per frontman E, writing on the band's official website at the time of Blinking Lights' release, the record is about "God and all the questions relating to the subject of God." Suddenly the extended production period makes sense. Then you see it has 33 tracks listed on the sleeve and it all becomes clear. A classic piece of alternative rock with big, bold ideas, it should always be remembered as one of the first landmarks to come from America this millennium.

Review: Fans of Marc Almost rejoice! Tenement Symphony, the Soft Cell singer's seventh solo album, returns via an impressive box set containing little less than six discs of music. The original 1991 album, a thrilling fusion of synth-pop, strings, piano house motifs and muscular dance grooves produced by the great Trevor Horn, sits on disc one alongside B-sides and seven-inch mixes, with disc two collecting extended versions and further B-sides. The remaining four discs showcase the songs contained on the album in various stages of development, with demos and work-in-progress versions aplenty, alongside live recordings and a swathe of previously released - and a smattering of never-released - club-focused remixes. Throw in a DVD of videos and BBC appearances, and you've got a genuinely brilliant box set.

Review: This has been a year of celebration for hip-hop with artists, labels and festivals all marking the still standout genre's 50th anniversary. As part of that, Def Jam has put together this Hip Hop's 50th Anniversary Edition of Young Jeezy's Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101 album on limited and gatefold triple fruit punch vinyl. It was originally released in 2005 by indie label Corporate Thugz and marked a fine commercial debut for the artists who'd already put out two mixtapes at that point. IA raw and hard hitting mix of gangsta and southern rap and trap, it's a high watermark for those styles, with singles like 'Soul Survivor' and 'My Hood' performing well.

Review: Bassnectar goes deep into his own take on dubstep here with a new album The Golden Rule on Amorphous Music. It comes across a triple selection of coloured vinyl and wastes no time in getting heavy. 'The Golden Rule' rides on saw tooth synths and slapping synths with 'Unlocked' (feat Rye Rye & Jamalski) bringing some vocal energy and 'I Am Another Yourself' then gets all screwy on some mad bass mutations. Elsewhere Bassnectar collaborates with Rebelwise on the exotic sounds of 'Prayer Song' and Hyper is peak time and maximal jump up for rave times only.

Review: Queen's The Works in Concert is a powerful and legendary capture of one of the best pop-rock bands this country has ever produced. It is packed with refined sounds mastered by the maestro Stefano Amerio and features Older on piano next to Yuri Goloubev on double bass and Mauro Beggio on drums. They are a virtuoso collective who drop the first two of the three, Moonlight Echoes and Starlight Reflections, on the same day at the end of December while the third, Pure, comes in early spring. This album is another masterful mix of romantic jazz sounds, gentle tinkling piano keys and sublime sophisticated lunge sounds that allow the mind to wander up amongst the stars. Review: Alex Font is charged with serving up the MINIMALER Factory label's first release and an ambitious one it is too - Cross The Limits: Chapter 1 (we wonder how many chapters there might be?) is a minimal and tech house triple pack that offers a wealth of club-ready sounds. They are embellished with all manner of abstract details and creeping sound designs, from trippy pads to whispered vocals. Each one is intricately designed and carefully arranged to be in a constant state of flux that very much keeps you locked from start to finish. A trio of fine remixes from Dubtil, Franco Cinelli and Alexis Cabrera add further gravitas to this strong album.

He worked with the Wynton Kelly Trio back in the mid-sixties and that is when he played a set at the famed Half Note jazz club in New York City with drummer Jimmy Cobb and bassists Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Herman Wright and Larry Ridley. The show was more than two horns long and was for radio broadcast and now it has been remastered for this triple album Maximum Swing: The Unissued 1965 Half Note Recordings. A booklet with new essays and interviews adds extra context to a classic album.

Review: Originally released in 2017, async was the 19th studio album from Japanese heavyweight Ryuichi Sakamoto, breaking a near-decade-long hiatus during which he was treated for throat cancer. And it's incredibly dense stuff to dive into, with genius on display both in terms of theoretical approach to recording, and avant-garde thinking behind what a record could and should be. Of course, that's hardly surprising for Sakamoto, whose legacy as one of Japan's foremost sonic adventurers may still not be stated enough, even after all the post-humous repressings and tributes. On this outing, then, we have strange, otherworldly interpretations of everyday instruments, a heavy focus on playing with textures of sound, bits of artists such as David Sylvian and Paul Bowles reading texts, found noises from city streets and themes of mortality, and our difficulty in accepting that truth.

Review: It is now a full three decades since Australian industrial trio Snog debuted with their still brilliant album Lies Inc on Machinery Records. To mark the occasion it gets a special 30th anniversary remastering and reissue on purple vinyl courtesy of Metropolis with all new artwork. Interestingly, not only is the searing, sarcastic, nihilistic electro contained within still relevant these days, but so too are the anti-establishment references in the track title from 'Corporate Slave' to 'Control' and 'Bank.' Some of those became rather unlikely global hits back in the day and their dark sense of humour and body poling rhythms will make just as much impact again now.

Review: In the mid-80s, Svitlana Okhrimenko, Oleksandr Kohanovs'kyi, and Tamila Mazur, students at the Reinhold Glier Kyiv Academy of Music, formed the foundation of Cukor Bila Smert. Their blend of music and camaraderie led to the addition of Eugene Taran, who further helped shape the band's vision. Dubbed Sugar - White Death, their ironic moniker challenged media sensationalism and amidst endless musical exploration, they crafted two albums in 1988 and 1989. The band's unique "sugar calypso sound" emerged, a blend of Kohanovs'kyi's music and lyrics by Okhrimenko and Taran. A significant studio session in 1990 yielded tracks featured on the Mannered Music compilation which sparked international interest. Their journey concluded in 1993 with the release of "Selo" by Koka Records, and now some of the best bits make it onto this new collection.

Review: Fresh off the acclaimed reissue of his Feuerfalter LP in both parts on Harthouse last year, the legendary Frankfurt label presents another reissue of a classic LP by hi-tech minimalism engineer Boris Brejcha. Die Maschinen Kontrollieren Uns ("The Machines Are Controlling Us"). was the Frankenthal native's second album released in 2007, where the masked crusader presented a whopping sixteen tracks. A true zeitgeist of a golden era in minimal techno, tracks like 'Brainstopper' with its atonal assortment of blips and bleeps underpinned by clipped rhythms will really take you back to the old says, as will the glitchy micro-funk of "Die Maschinen sind Gestrandet" (Second Edition) or the deep tech house of "Wellenreiter (2.0)" could have been played aboard a Sunday boat party along the River Main circa 2008.
