Notes: The Z2040 is TipTop Audio's redesign of the most famous analogue filter from the polysynths of the 80's and features Tiptop Audio's signature lush, big, and creamy sound. Its frequency sweeps make thick bass lines and leads with great dynamics. When modulated with audio frequencies through its various inputs, the Z2040 gets quite colourful and is capable of creating many new sounds and textures as the forces of the incoming waves and their harmonics blend through the filter's non-linear circuit. When set with Resonance feedback fully up, the Z2040 transforms into a pure sine-core VC-Oscillator, great for making snappy percussive elements and whistling sounds.

A look under the hood will find that the heart of the Z2040 is a discrete design 4-pole low pass filter with a core similar to that of the SSM2040 filter chip, used in the 80's Prophet 5 Rev 2 synthesizer, and its brother the SSM2044, used in the famous early EMU samplers and PPG synthesizers of the 80's. Both filters are considered by many to be, "the best sounding filter ever".

The Z2040's four modulation inputs are built to handle CV and audio signals, enabling deep modulation of the filter core and passing signals. A VC resonance input is provided to modulate and even clip the sine wave produced by the filter feedback loop. A Frequency Modulation input (FM) provides dynamic filter sweeps and the unique VC-FM index allows modulation of the incoming FM signals. On top of that, the Z2040 comes with an audio VCA that can be configured to act upon the input or the output of the filter.

Perform a variety of mixing and sound design duties ranging from subtle brightness and clarity adjustments to low-end rumble removal, boosted low-pass filtering and sweep EQ.

In the default tilt mode, turning the control knob clockwise simultaneously boosts treble and cuts bass. Turning anti-clockwise boosts bass and cuts treble. These boosts and cuts are pivoted around the mid-range. With the control knob at 12 o'clock the frequency response is neutral.

With Baxandall high-shelf mode enabled, turning the control knob clockwise past 12 o'clock introduces and gentle high-shelf EQ weighted around the upper mid-range. Turning the control knob anti-clockwise results in a wide high-shelf cut with subtle bass and mid-range adjustments.

Patching the channels in series allows for radical sound shaping and band-pass responses. Each channel provides up to +/- 8db of low and high-frequency gain control, summing into a low noise output stage. Hot input signals over 15vpp are saturated by active Zener diode clipping.

Michel Waiswisz's Cracklebox in a modular format - 12HP.
Notes: Introducing a limited edition re-release of this iconic electronic instrument in a modular format.

This limited edition of 75 units is a tribute to the pioneering work of Dutch musician and instrument maker Michel Waiswisz (1949 - 2008), who first invented the Cracklebox with Geert Hamelberg in the late 1960s.

The Cracklebox was a small, handheld device designed as a way to explore new sonic territories. It was one of the first electronic musical instruments to use circuit bending techniques in the creation of electronic music. It allowed musicians to manipulate and control electronic circuits in real-time, creating a wide range of unique and experimental sounds. He used a circuit from a toy piano as the basis for the instrument, and then added a series of touch-sensitive pads that were connected to the circuit. When a player touched one of the pads, the circuit would be completed, producing a crackling sound.

The Cracklebox was probably the first commercially available portable self-powered alternative 'keyboard' analogue electronic instrument with inbuilt loudspeaker.

In the 1970s about 4000 Crackleboxes were built and sold by STEIM in Amsterdam.

Nowadays many people refer to the The Cracklebox as the archetype of 'glitch' or 'circuit bending'.

In the decades since its invention, the Cracklebox has continued to be an important and influential instrument in the world of electronic music. It is still in use today, and is considered a classic example of the potential of electronic music to create unique and innovative sounds.

This Eurorack recreation includes a 9v battery, swappable through the front panel, this allows to isolate the current flowing through the user's fingers from the Eurorack frame PSU, protecting the user from undesired electrical shocks. The internal speaker has been removed, a transformer has been used instead to isolate the output signal.

The output generated can be used as an audio, as a gate or a cv signal, when using it as a cv source, due to the specific qualities of the signal, users may want to send it through other modules as slews, sample and holds, quantizers to tame/control it's peculiar cv output.

Controls:

- The module features an on/off switch to turn off the 9v battery (remember to turn it off when you turn off your Eurorack system).
- A Power Starve knob, reduces the 9v voltage feeding the circuitry changing it's overall timbre/pitch
- An Output Gain knob to control the output volume.
- A Boost switch to add more presence to the signal.

Less density, but a much higher degree of patch control is the key point of the Helios, which complements other MMI devices very well, and can be joined with other Helios (Helii?) to form larger and creative control surfaces.

The design is greatly simplified compared to the original MMI, with only two I/O jacks - either can function as input and output, and their interaction with each other is determined by touching both plates simultaneously to form a connection, or in cooperation with other MMI devices.

With operation identical to it's little brother, the MMI Matrix allows the user to patch inputs to outputs by connecting zig-zagged patterns together with fingers, fruits, cables, pizza slices or any other conductive source. The labyrinth patterns will immediately connect the zig-zags immediately adjacent, whether above and below, or on each side. Furthermore, the two labyrinths within labyrinths will connect ALL adjacent inputs and outputs, which may lead to beautiful disasters or otherworldly insights.

As with its predecessor, the MMI Matrix is fully touch and pressure sensitive, reacting to the amount of pressure exerted, the amount of skin connecting, and the resistive quality of your body. Incredibly easy to perform with, the MMI Matrix offers new and far more advanced ways to patch your performances, whether CV, triggers or audio signals. Create reverb swells that vary between different types of reverb, use multiple fingers and labyrinth patterns to mix trigger signals into complex polyrhythms or create beautiful chords by combining various pitch inputs with a chord oscillator. The MMI Matrix also integrates very well with it's little brother, so there is absolutely no need to hold back!

Oh, and as always, it uses NO power! But it will take up 10hp of space in your system. A fair deal!

Notes: The MMI Maxima is the final word in MMI technology. Beautiful gold patterns form gradients of touch sensitive surface areas, each connected to an input/output. Drag, rub, pinch or tap your fingers across to form connections, and create evocative and unique performances. Utilize the various pattern densities and shapes in your performance, or create installations with whatever conductive material is to hand.

Operation is easy: simply plug any audio, LFO, CV, trigger, gate, offset or clock into any of the inputs on the front panel, and connect one or several outputs to destinations in your system. The symbols near the sockets correspond to the shapes on the panel, and all that remains is for you to form the connection between the desired symbols with your hand, or any other conductive object you may have. Connect multiple at the same time to achieve liquid, gradual mixing, evolving rhythmic patterns, mixed LFOs and more. Furthermore, touch the pressure plates more firmly or in more dense areas to form stronger connections - in practice, this means a signal will pass with more or less intensity, based on the pressure you apply.

There are countless possibilities here: the shapes make it easy to memorize your patch, and the many inputs and outputs allow for enormous creativity. Eight inputs and one output? No problem. Maybe you want eight outputs sharing one input? Also no problem. Why not patch in an offset voltage, and then use the pressure sensitivity to sweep a filter with the offset patched into the filter resonance CV control? Or maybe create volume swells by patching audio into a VCA, or even an effect, for reverb or delay swells. Maybe you want to create chords, crescendos or chaotic and swiftly changing drum patterns?

Although practice helps, there are no rules for playing the MMI Maxima. Use it upside down or downside up, rack it, tape it to your body or drill it into your guitar and use it with the expression input on your pedals (yes, this is actually possible. Seriously.) With no external power needed, it makes an excellent performance companion for any system, big or small, modular, semi-modular or even not-modular-at-all.

Intended as a controller for musicians and non-musicians alike, the purpose of the MMI Maxima is to put emphasis on your performance and expression, rather than your competence at the ivory keys or dexterity at a drum pad. Let your hands, slices of pickled cucumber or other conductive everyday objects do the talking, through a combination of clever patching and expressive play - with the MMI Maxima, you have a performance tool unlike any other at your disposal.

The MMI Maxima comes in a custom case, and does not require external power to operate. Enjoy the Maxima either as a standalone controller, or rack it in your system if you desire.

In a convergence of old-school LPG design and more modern components, the Om boasts a single -6dB resonant filter, custom hand-built vactrol and no less than three cutoff modes designed to inspire your next sounds.

Although the little brother of the Omen, the Om brings a distinct sound to the table. Do not mistake the Om for an Omen sawn in half, as they will both provide musically interesting and useful sounds to your setup.

Exactly as with the Omen, care has been taken to create a circuit with near-zero audio bleed and the best possible characteristics for a passive LPG. Of course, many of the natural features of vactrols remain, such as subtle memory effect when engaging the vactrol for long periods.

Introducing the Herzlich PSA, a simple solution to a problem you might not even realize you had. Far from just useful as an attenuator for audio sources in mixdowns, the PSA can also be used to bring audio down to more managable levels (such as line level), attenuate multiple signals simultaneously (like increasing the modulation depth of two LFO's at the same time! It's like having two hands, but with one hand!) and even function as a multiple: Attenuator 1 is normalled to Attenuator 2, so multing your stereo signal (or two mono signals) while attenuating the two signals individually is easy as pie.

Attenuate your Eurorack signals down to line level, or even all the way down to instrument level, and get a nice, clean boost back up to modular levels, with this dead simple and highly useful device from the R&D department at Herzlich Labs.

You can even use it to integrate external stereo line level signals into your Eurorack, which is both nice and convenient, and also useful. Finally, you have an easy way to get the sound of your JV1080 into your Clouds.

The scientists have been working overtime to produce this unit, and were fed extra rations of maize and millet gruel just to bring you this circuit. Notes: The Low Fat is a new 2hp Eurorack module by AJH Synth, it's a High Pass filter, with frequency control by either manual pot, and/or external CV with attenuator. It's intended to compliment other filters, particularly low pass VCF modules, in practical tasks such as removing excessive low frequencies, for example when the bass is swamping a mix. It can be switched between 6dB (1 pole) response and 12dB (2 pole) response.

By patching a CV signal to the FCV input it can be voltage-controlled and used musically as with any other VCF. When used in conjunction with a LP filter it forms a fully customisable band pass filter, allowing the range of passbands to be cherry-picked. Feeding in a 1V/Oct pitch CV and setting the FCV pot to a suitable level allows it to track an incoming pitch CV, so the amount of High Pass filtering remains constant as the pitch of the incoming VCOs traverse up and down the frequency range. This can be particularly useful in creating percussive sounds, such as snares and hats, but also on sequenced bass lines. Since it is only 2HP it's a great way to occupy one of those frustrating gaps in your eurorack modular case with something that is deceptively useful, and adds another dimension to the classic bass monster that is the Transistor Ladder Filter.

Explore the sonic space of phase cancellation! Phase cancellation shapes the characteristics of all acoustic instruments. It forms the basis of chorus and phaser effects. It gives vibrancy to detuned oscillators. The vibrant sound of pulse width modulation or the roaring sound of animated supersaws are a small part of a much larger sonic space that the Triphase Oscillator is built to discover.

The Triphase Oscillator produces three different sawtooth waves at the exact same pitch but with independent phase control. These are blended in a bipolar CP3-type mixer, giving a rich waveform at the output. By blending in a wave with a positive polarity, you reinforce in-phase harmonics; by blending a wave with a negative polarity, you reduce in-phase harmonics. The phase differences between the waves distribute the harmonics from in-phase to out-of-phase. The result is a comb-filter effect, like the effect produced by an acoustic reflection, with notches and peaks spaced evenly throughout the frequency range. Conventional pulse width modulation can be obtained by blending two sawtooth waves with equal but opposite polarity. Supersaw-like behavior can be obtained by using phase CV with the same polarity for all three waves. But many other interesting spaces can be reached. For example, by setting the phases correctly you can cancel out the first harmonic and get a saw an octave higher, or cancel both the first and the second harmonic, giving you a saw an octave and a fifth above the fundamental frequency. Modulation then brings back these canceled harmonics.

The Triphase Oscillator is completely analog, built around a sawtooth core that is functionally stable and accurate but sonically alive. It has linear FM on all three waves, and an excellent hard sync that can create shredding harmonic sweeps. The CP3 type mixer gives good distortion at higher levels, allowing you to blend three 5-volt-peak waves without worrying about headroom. All CV functions at audio rate. With an LFO driving the phases, it can easily replace the classic analog three oscillator setup, and in this configuration it's one of the fattest things you have ever heard. But the Triphase oscillator is much more than a thickener, and can just as easily produce thin reedy sounds or subtly shifting harmonic drones.

Inspired by the legendary Moog CP3 mixer, the 713 tweaks the old-school discrete circuits into three stereo inputs and one mono channel, summing to stereo with adjustable feedback and clipping to add character.

Supplier's Notes:
ADDAC713 is the stereo version of ADDAC System's 703 Discrete Mixer.

Inspired by Moog's CP3 mixer, this is a fully discrete analogue mixer and it's not, by any means, your standard breakfast mixer, although it can behave like one.

This is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Despite its harmless looks there's a dark snarly soul behind that panel that wants to take your sounds into a realm of gritty gnarly growls.

This new version was initially thought of as a percussion mixer, with mono inputs and panning, to allow placing percussive voices in the stereo field, while keeping channel 4 in mono for low end sources like a kick drum or Bass. In the development process ADDAC System slightly changed this initial idea, adding stereo inputs for the first 3 channels, but still kept the 4th channel in mono.

All four [GAIN] controls go to extreme levels, the first 3channels also feature [PAN] controls. Feedback is used to overdrive the whole mix. As the control is turned clockwise the sound will be clipped harder until it goes completely off, this happens as feedback is increased the audio bias reference also moves up, at extreme levels it offsets the whole signal upwards until it completely goes above the top rail clipping the whole signal hence the resulting gate effect.

The [MASTER OUTPUT] sets the overall output gain of the mixer, the two leds monitor the audio output signal. The Soft clipping switch engages an anti-click circuit which adds a low pass before the output, the switch allows 3 states: Soft low pass / Off / Hard low pass.

A knob and CV jack selects the Sample to play, and the Start Position knob and CV jack control where in the sample playback will begin. The Length knob and CV jack determine how much of the sample is played back: from tiny grains, to percussive hits, to longer loops... or just the entire file.

Pressing Play or firing a trigger into the Play Trig jack will play the sample. Holding the Play button down for a second will toggle looping.

There's also a Reverse button and jack for backwards playback, and an End Out jack for synchronizing loops, or cascading sample playback with other events.

To record samples, hold Play and Reverse for two seconds. Press Play again or fire a trigger into the Play/Rec Trig jack to start and stop recording. Each recording will create a new stereo 48kHz 24bit .wav file in the current bank's folder. Recordings can be as long as your card has the capacity for: a 256GB card is 18 days of continuous recording (432.9 hours). Audio data is split into maximum 4GB wav files on the microSD card.

The Wave Transformer is a complex single oscillator with 7 audio outputs. Its method of wave shaping differs from other complex oscillators in that it is not based upon classic wave folding such as is common in West Coast synthesis, or filtration such as is common in East Coast synthesis.

This analogue, vintage-voiced, voltage-controlled oscillator features over 8 octaves of accurate pitch tracking. Its 7 simultaneous wave outputs include a unique Complex output. This strange and novel output varies between a simple waveform (triangle, unless you patch a signal into the Shape Insert jack) and a complex transformation of the harmonic structure of the original waveform. It contains a unique mixture of the fundamental frequency, odd order harmonics, even order harmonics and subharmonics. The Sub Octave panel control will determine whether the sub harmonics are derived from one octave down, two octaves down, or are muted altogether. It will vary from a simple waveform to a silhouette of your cat watching you as you react to a "present" that it left for you on the counter. No, seriously.

The module's Transform control morphs from a basic waveform through many strange iterations into a complex, gnarled mass of audio mutations at the Complex output using an asymmetrical multi differential audio transmutation circuit. You can yield countless variations on these permutations by combining this novel circuit with Hard Sync, Soft Sync, Linear FM and Exponential FM.

Additionally, you can mute the source waveform to use the circuit as a harmonic gate/VCA, rendering the Wave Transformer a voice unto itself.

If that is not enough, there is a Shape Insert that allows you to transform external oscillations and modular-level audio sources.

The BXx2 is a dual channel preamp, EQ and mixer based on the classic Boss BX series mixers. With the inclusion of both input gain and level controls, each channel can be overdriven, producing the signature saturated and lively sound the BX mixers are known for. The EQ controls provide the channels with simple but great sounding high and low shelf EQs for emphasising and shaping sounds and an additional 'Aux' input allows another mixer or extra sound source to be chained in.

Input gain controls

Sets the input gain of the channel preamp. Higher settings will cause source to overdrive the channel.

In 1 - Input to channel 1 of the mixer.

The usual idea is that you put all your DROID controllers into a skiff case and mount your DROID master, X7 and G8 into another case, together with all your fancy Eurorack sound modules.

R2C is module 2 of a pair of two 2 HP modules that allow you to connect a chain of controllers to your DROID master through a standard 3.5 mm stereo cable (sometimes also called aux-cable).

The usual idea is that you put all your DROID controllers into a skiff case and mount your DROID master, X7 and G8 into another case, together with all your fancy Eurorack sound modules.

While you could do this with the typical 6-pin ribbon connector (e.g. the 80 cm version that we offer), using the R2M/R2C combination has some serious advantages:

The connection cable can be almost arbitrary long (20 m have been tested and works perfectly).

Since the connection is done on the front of the modules, you can quickly disconnect your skiff for the purpose of travelling to a gig.

You can use a standard 3.5 mm stereo TRS cable for the connection.

These modules are not just passive connectors but contain special driver ICs that transform the electronic voltage levels, which run in the 6-pin ribbon, to something more stable and reliable that is fit for longer distances in a more hostile environment.

The controllers do not receive their power from the master but from the R2C module, which has a power connector and a voltage regulator for that purpose. Each chain of the R2C module provides the same power to its controller chain as the master does (it contains the identical voltage regulator). That means that you can connect up to 32 controllers (!) to one R2C.

Another nice thing: The R2M/R2C combination allows for two of these master / controller connections in parallel. That means that you can have two masters being attached to their individual controller chains. That does not mean, that each of the masters can access each of the controllers at the same time, however. Both master / controller connections work completely separately.

The Expandoor can be used as a standalone tabletop box, or mounted in a 3U 10HP rack space.

Three independent GATE outputs:

Just as the three "Register" zones on your AMP device gate the audio for the three octaves of the built-in synthesizer, there are three corresponding gate outputs on the Expandoor. The 1/8" jacks labelled "BS" "LH" and "RH" output ~11V DC gate signals whenever those zones are gating "ON" on your AMP device.

CV output, tuners and LED indicators:

The jack labelled "CV" outputs a tuned set of CV values (0-11V), tuned independently but correspondingly, to the set of tuners on your AMP device. The row of multi-turn tuners on the front panel allow fine tuning of each CV state. One tuner is active at a time, depending on the state of the "INTERVAL" zones on your AMP device. The active tuner is conveniently indicated in real time via lights found to the right of the tuners. The indicator lights serve a second function of showing you which tuner on the controlling AMP device is also active in parallel.

AMP LINK jacks

The AMP LINK jack on the bottom left of the front panel (with the arrow pointing IN) connects your controlling AMP device into the EXPANDOOR. Use only shielded CAT 5 or CAT 6 cables and connectors (the correct cables will have metal end connectors). The AMP LINK jack on the right outputs a signal identical to the input, allowing chaining of multiple Expandoors and/or Wave Expanders. Do not plug more than one AMP controlling device into a single Expandoor simultaneously, or damage to the devices could occur.

Each controlling device requires its own Expandoor or Wave Exapnder, but multiple expansion modules can be chained from one controlling device. One potential benefit to chaining expansion modules is the ability to output multiple tuned, corresponding but independent, CV channels. Meaning multiple sets of harmonic values could be tuned and accessed at the command of the single controlling AMP device, or accessed via other modules in your system.
