ZZZ (Volta Cab Warehouse mix)
Akom (original mix)
Inc (origina mix)
Review: Commencing the new Italian imprint Frole in style, Danny Ward, better known as Dubble D, is presenting his Moodymanc alias in a convoluted artist mix up that needn't raise concerns about the quality of house music contained within. "ZZZ" is pared right down to a minimal hum, with just the bare essentials of drums at work while developed content thrums away at the core of the track for those that listen closely enough. Volta Cab brings a much bigger sound to the remix, slapping some chunky chords and choice bleeps over the top and beefing the drums up no end. "Akom" returns to more restrained tones, with plenty of space for vocal snippets to echo in and pristinely arranged drums, while "Inc" warms things up a treat with chord-infected smooth house tones and a much breezier outlook overall.

Alles In Allem
Review: The Funke man returns with his first 12" for Kompakt in over a decade! German producer Sascha Funke has a long and productive relationship with the Cologne outpost dating back to the Compass 12" issued through the label in 1999, and lately this has manifested itself through Saschienne. The ongoing music project between Funke and wife Julienne Dessagne, Saschienne 2012 LP was full of deep, sweeping techno and it's an approach he takes with this Zug Un Zug 12". The title cut is pure Funke, gradually building from just a few elements into a hugely dramatic dancefloor epic themed around perfectly placed piano chords. It is complemented well by the more urgent drive of "Alles In Allem" made all the more distinctive by some bizarro, almost Giallo synths.

Review: The little-known Traffic Records are a curious bunch, blending intriguing inner labels, adorned with various art styles, with gregarious dance music. Based in Frankfurt, they always set out to do justice to their homedown, sourcing local artists almost exclusively. New signee Mayell chucks cut-up vocoders and street-traffic basses into a beguiling stew, producing four cuts that would sound right at home in a modern-day spy thriller.

Morning Haze
Spiritu Haret
Review: Romanian producer Adrian Niculae hasn't pulled up many trees in his short production career, but his name has turned some heads thanks to this 2-tracker for All Inn Black. Both "Morning Haze" and "Spiritu Haret" fuse stark, hypnotic, minimalist rhythms with beautiful and engaging musical elements. "Morning Haze", for example, benefits from the combination of deep chord stabs and loose, additional percussion. "Spiritu Haret", on the other hand, has a breaksy shuffle and muted riffs that sound like filtered horn hits. Throughout, there's much warmth, something often lacking from similarly stripped-back productions.

Review: King Unique have cemented a fantastic reputation for themselves over the last few years having made some seminal tracks for labels like Boys Own. Now they have their own brand - Curfew, named after the regular club nights that they put on up and down the country. The first release - "To The Left" got massive acclaim and huge amounts of DJ play. This follow up release under their alter ego - Kupon is also a killer. This has been caned now for a long time since before the Summer by the likes of Pete Tong and Fergie from early CD promos. The two tracks which are both variations on a theme are simply devastating. The A side "Zoom In" starts with its chugging bassline and spacey percussion before building and dropping into some seriously powerful synth edits. The flip side varies the theme slightly with a harder approach and powerful synths. This record has very serious potential and will crossover into many different genres.

But he only puts out a small quantity of tracks a year. Now Chus has signed to Blackout '77 and delivers "Zoom", a storming minimal electro anthem, nearly 10 minutes of minimalistic brilliance sounding similar to some Luciano and Cadenza releases - full on electro beats and catchy and surrounding melodic elements.

Review: Kepler is a man on fire right now - well, he has been for some time in fact. As well as serving up a new collaborative outing with Burnski, he has also put together this solo EP for Pilot. 'Zone' is a twitchy tech cut with bleeping melodies over silvery and silky tech drums. 'Good 2 Me' has a naughty shuffle to it as the crisp drums bring the infectious groove and the smart vocals add human colour. 'The Beat' kicks off the B-side with a nice squelchy bassline and some rude-boy sonic signifiers while 'Back Moving' then has a lovely low-slung swaying funk to it.

Review: Ever since they moved to the UK back in 2000 Italoboyz, aka Marco Donato and Federico Marton, have built a formidable reputation
in the fertile minimal techno scene of their adopted hometown, London. Their energetic DJ sets at Fesh are the stuff of local legend.
Their productions, meanwhile, have seen them gain notoriety around the world.
Now Italoboyz consolidate their position as dancefloor alchemists par excellence with a 12 inch for Berlin's Get Physical.
'Zinga' is every bit as hot as its title implies, and once again proves Italoboyz' knack for sourcing sounds usually foreign to the club
and then making the club wholeheartedly rock to them.

Review: Mannheim imprint Kusi has previously given us a release by David Nicolas featuring a superb remix by Romanian wunderkind Barac; what a debut if we've ever seen one! For their second edition it's Nicolas again, collaborating with Sebastian Werle as Sedee on KUSI 002. "Zib Escort" is the kind of deep and hypnotic, percussion driven groove reminiscent of the aforementioned Barac or Vincentiulian. Druggy and minimal afterhours business executed finely! On the flip, the remix by Understand label boss Lezar Cezar is even more reduced, quirky and bumpy in a way that's undeniably Perlon influenced; are we're liking it!

Tigers Don't Sleep
Review: "Zeugma" is the first EP from Brwn Shoes, an artist discovered by Fondation. This newcomer to the electronic scene was for years an observer, in the sweaty basements of London and Valencia, before getting in to DJing and music production with panache and attitude. The Brwn Shoes sound is based on dirty, insistent monosyllabic basslines, providing moody, stripped-down pieces meant to drive the crowd. "Zeugma" and "Tigers Don't Sleep" are two perfect examples of this new breed of sound he's developing. Crude, raw and sexy - that's how we like it.

Mango Solo (Moebius 123 remix 2 part 1)
Mango Solo (Moebius remix 2 part 2)
Review: Following his recent appearance on DFA, Ricardo Villalobos turns in a suitably epic remix for Endless Flight in the first of two Moebius & Neumeier retweak twelve inches from the Japanese label. To set the scene, Dieter .Cluster' Moebius & Manfred .Guru Guru' Neumeier collaborated with Kraftwerk drummer Conny Plank in 1983 on Zero Set, an album of lean electronic experimentalism. A subsequent Zero Set album from Moebius & Neumeier was recorded in 2007 as tribute to Plank who had passed away some 20 years earlier. And whilst the first album has been treated to several reissues over the years, a blanket of rarity cloaks the second album, with it not being readily available outside of Japan, thus rendering a comparison of the album version of "Mango Solo" and Villalobos' epic reworking somewhat impossible. Clocking in at nearly 34 minutes over two sides of vinyl, this is classic Villalobos built around fluttering percussion, breathy discordant textures and the repetition of "one, two, three".

Review: Berlin's Subtil imprint returns with a new split EP titled Zerno, featuring French minimal expert Doubtingthomas and Siberia's Wyro (Engineer Records). The pair collaborate once again after last year's Unten EP for Metroline Limited. The title track is a long, low-slung and trippy affair that's aimed squarely at the afterhours dancefloor. On the flip we have two more offerings: the rolling, sunny tech house of 'Bloom' which will mix well with you Mulen records, followed by the slo-mo psychedelia of 'Prilivi' which will come in handy during that ambient set you've been eager to play one day.

Review: New label Pointillisme Music return after some great releases by Disuasiv (Andi Parlogea & Dragosh) and the always impressive Ukrainian KiRiK. It's now over to Esoteric Workshop, who has released previously on Sensual and 87 Records and rest assured that the Zern EP certainly follows in suit. Starting out with the deeply hypnotic subtlety of "Travers" featuring a gentle broken beat, emotive pads and tripped out atmospherics: this one ticks all the right boxes. The remix of said track up next by Anestie Gomez stays faithful to the original, but gets dubbier by injecting more tempo and shuffle into the rhythm complete with a rolling bassline which works even better. On the flip, the mysterious producer experiments further with broken beats, like on is the classic Chicago deep house sounds of "Loren" and then back to four/four with the tough, electro-infused analogue driven groove of "Sera".

Review: Poker Flat proudly welcomes Raudive (aka Oliver Ho) with his amazing "Zeitgeist EP"! Oliver Ho has been one of the most creative producers on the electronic circuit for more than ten years now. He has been exploring techno and house in their many different styles. Since 2006 Oliver has been releasing as Raudive focusing more on the dancefloor, but incorporating his explorations of dark and experimental electronic music. The result is a still dark with an amazingly hypnotic blend of techy house-music that always comes paired with a funky attitude. "Zeitgeist" is a dark manic and hypnotic, but irresistibly funky track, that will fully unfold his magic on the dancefloor.

Review: The Botanic Minds stable continue to inject the vague framework of minimal club music with some colour and sass with this excellent EP from Romanian mainstay Sepp. 'Fluturul' is a perfect 10-minute escapade with a seriously funky bassline and dreamy but snappy melodic hooks on top to carry you away in a reverie of sunkissed psychedelia. 'Vulturul' takes things in a deeper direction without losing the panache and personality that made the A side a winner. 'Si Gaita' seals the deal with a sundown delight that weaves together more of those interlocking melodic lines to get bodies shaking in an effortless, day-into-night fashion that spells out a long and fruity session ahead.

Review: Ukranian label Propaganda has made great strides since launching in early 2015. They've previously put out a quartet of quietly impressive 12" singles, and here unleash their most extensive release yet: a double-pack compilation of previously unreleased cuts from their current roster of artists. There's naturally much to admire, from the wobble bass, relentless beats and hushed Rich Medina vocals of Mateo Papachioli's "Journeyman", and bass-heavy, dub-flecked broken techno of Nastia's "Safari", to the bouncy beats and ghostly vocal samples of Yate's undeniably epic "Tooman". NSD's similarly lengthy closer "A Story Behind Everything", which reminded us a little of Don't DJ's recent album on Berceuse Heroique, is also rather fine.

HOSH & Uner - "Sonar"
Review: Subtlety has always been German label Diynamic's trademark, and on this split release, its artists favour a light touch to seduce their listeners. Hosh & Stimming's "My Shadow" is the most full-on track here, its dubby drums and breathy vocal samples underpinned by grinding bass licks. Without this element, "Shadow" is an innocent sounding, summery house groove in much the same vein as Solomun & DJ Phono's "Ice Cream & Bonus Miles". There, choppy drums and a juddering bassline provide the basis for atmospheric chord sequences. A similar approach is audible on Hosh & Uner's "Sonar", which features innocent vocals, while Stimming & David August's "Sexy Biest" completes this understated release with icy synths and jazzy piano keys set to stripped back drums.

"J Strawberry" is just beyond categorisation really and it's easily one of the most paranoid and sinister soundscapes we've heard of late and we love that kind of stuff! Review: Paris' Yoyaku imprint serves up yet another edition in its YYY series, courtesy of anonymous artists or alter egos of established ones on the minimal house scene. This is actually the second part in the limited sublabel series, which was inaugurated last year by Difid aka Dakpa from Palma de la Mallorca. Bumpy and looped up house on the hypnotic afterhours tip is the order of the day on "As I Left College" and reminiscent of Derrick Carter's work as Sound Patrol back in the day. The reduced mini-funk of "Don't Fight The Feeling" is perfect after hours fare that will go down a treat on dancefloors as far as Berlin and Bucharest, while "No Wait" (on the flip) goes deeper down the rabbit hole, taking in some even trippier and hypnotic elements than heard heard even earlier.

You can tell, too... The second the liquid analogue tones drip and melt over the thundering robust kicks and those sinewy atmospheres whisper into the mix, there's a sense of class and weight that can come from no amateur. The same can be said for the more forthright acid house homage "Fune". Loopy and rolling like DJ Pierre at his prime, this could crumble bare warehouse walls within bars. Review: There's been plenty of hype surrounding the YYY Series since it launched earlier this year. So far, information has been limited. We know that the mysterious label is associated with the Paris-based Yoyaku agency and record shop, but not the identities of the producers behind the releases. Still, as long as the quality remains high, few DJs will care. "398A" is a chunky, floor-filling affair, with woozy, Detroit style synth motifs joining forces with a bustling, pleasingly percussive groove. It's not quite deep house, tech-house or techno, but rather something in between. Arguably even better is flipside "398B", whose combination of fluttering synthesizer riffs and two-step influenced deep house beats is both beautiful and floor-friendly.

Review: While we know the identities of those behind the hyped YYY series - Parisian record store, DJ agency and recording studio Yoyaku - they're still keeping tight-lipped about the identities of the producers behind their well-regarded releases. This latest missive - the fourth in the series to date - is also shrouded in mystery. This much we know: it contains two versions of the same untitled track. The A-side is crisp and sharp, with an increasingly ragged acid bassline, slowly emerging chord progressions and clanking drum machine hits combining. It feels a little like a techno head's take on analogue deep house, if that makes sense. The flipside version moves further towards straight-up techno territory, with ghostly pads seemingly floating above a denser, chunkier rhythm track.

It is another timeless fusion of spaced-out beats, prime 90s tech house and subtle minimalism that is designed for heady DJ sets. 'IV Anbus' is quick and slick, with its bouncing kicks and crunchy hits, then 'Balut' is a much more intriguing atmosphere with spiraling ambient pads and a more skeletal rhythm sinking you into a late-night headspace. 'Alpha Corvus' closes with a clatter of DIY percussive sounds, pixelated chord stabs and a sense of cyborg funk that you will not be able to resist.

Ys is steeped in melancholic drama conveyed through warm, full-bodied synths, taking the blueprint laid out by the likes of the Innervisions stable to the next level. The title track lays out its features with poise, lilting between peaks of chords and swells with the most delicately placed drum beats nudging the tidal tech house along. "Are We" follows a similar musical path, although it is embellished by the vocal tones of Egle Sirvydyte, while "Apnea" takes a sunnier tact with the emotive notes it reaches for.

Simmer (Lake People remix) (6:03)
Illuminated (Kettenkarussell Yin Mirror) (8:08)
Review: On this EP, Mule Musiq has gathered together a crack team of artists to rework tracks from Lawrence's most recent album, the fine Yoyogi Park. Kettenkarussell serve up two fine reworks of "Illuminated", first heading into deep space, atmospheric techno territory before breaking up the beats on their dreamier, more fragile Yin Mirror version. The headline attraction is arguably Roman Flugel's rework of "Clouds and Arrows", which wraps sparkling synthesizer melodies and cascading piano lines over a bouncy tech-house groove. Arguably best of all, though, is Lake People's version of "Simmer", which fixes bouncy, old school house pianos to a sparkling electro groove.

Review: Danish duo Lars Gregers and Simon Damborg aka Blagger return to Ripperton's Perspectiv imprint with this dope 12". "Gracefully Yours" chairs proceedings with gently undulating chords and subtle vocal clips working up a serious groove. Sharing the A Side is Anges' remix of "Mine To Keep", which is positively dripping in mid tempo Detroitisms. It's the standout track here, although the original on the flip ain't half bad either. Stimming chips in with a moody reworking which will please the minimal house heads immensely. Top 12" all round!

Your Style (Maya Jane Coles remix)
Review: Echoey claps sooth us into Crosstown Rebel's latest offering from Maceo Plex. Plex's Life Index album on Crosstown, released in January, garnered praise from industry heavyweights worldwide. An undeniably smokey and sensual vocal from Maceo himself holds no barriers as it breathes out "girl I love your style" in a sexual and repetitive moan. Rattling shakers rise up over the deliriously deep and gruff bass line as "Your Style" prowls itself into a sultry trip. On the flip, the much lauded star of 2010 Maya Jane Coles remixes an equally dark and low slung deep house version, chugging along with a slightly clickier edge that compliments Maceo's original flawlessly.

Review: Montreal maven Priori's continued rush of beautifully rendered club magic manifests in a new album on the NAFF label he co-steers with Ex-Terrestrial. As you may well expect by now, his approach balances beauteous ambient passages full of advanced synthesis with delicate techno and rolling broken beat, imbued with a sense of warmth and playfulness but never at the expense of the music's emotional depth. Stand-out moments on Your Own Power include slowly unfurling downtempo bliss-out 'Shkrub' and the brooding, cerebral passages of 'The Village', but truthfully the whole album plays out in a cascade of immaculate production and heartwarming composition. The NAFF gear always flies out, so don't sleep on this one.

Your Love (In A Jam) (Idjut Boys acid version)
Review: Absurd Recordings maintain the standards laid down with the Tin Man & Donato Dozzy shaped brilliance of their first Acid Test release in premiering the sounds of Achterbahn D'amour. A new collaborative project between Iron Curtis and Edit Piafra, it sees the duo explore the jerked out stripped down end of the Chicago House spectrum with the sprawling stuttering acid twirl out of "Talking Acid" a definite highlight. On the flip the heroic Idjut Boys deliver two remixes of "Your Love" which hit the spot with H bomb aplomb. The guttural bass aesthetics of the spinal "Version House" proves to be a nice counterpart to the floating 303 brilliance of the "Version Acid". Free d/l code of all tracks included too!

Yummysweet
Review: Pnuma continues with its third release from techno pioneer Dan Curtin. This exciting new label is building a first class reputation for releasing quality electronic music regardless of genre. The first release was the bubbling, dub soaked techno of "Oce Oce/Ice Ice" by Lee Van Dowski & Quenum. Next was Scape One's "Shockwave Rider EP" - a jacking four tracker of purist electro from one of the UK's masters. For the third instalment the legendary Dan Curtin has delivered the floor-shaking "Your Little Fantasy EP" which contains two tracks of wonky technoid grooves to freak the dancefloor.

200 Grams
Your Face Is A Mess
Review: After his fantastic release 'The Underground Bullshits' on Josh Wink's Philly based imprint, Ovum, this time Gel Abril
comes back with the follow-up to his best selling previous hit on Be As One ('Very Wrong'). 'Your Face Is A Mess' is
another of those rare releases that from the first listen you understand that it's gonna be a big release that brings extra
elements to the game. On the a-side, '200 Grams' cannot be the weight of this heavily bouncing and hypnotizing tune.
With a distinctive quirky line and a typical Abril heavily bouncing groove, '200 Grams' keeps you
moving all the way up to the main break and then takes you back into the dubby old school groove. If the a-side is
freaky and bouncing, well the ep title-track 'Your Face Is A Mess' on the flip can only be described as a dirty mind-blowing
minimal/tech house track with a druggy vocal all over and a very stripped down synth line. This record will catch the
dancefloor's attention, in line with the different and unique approach that's nowadays one of BAO's own trademarks.
Again, Be As One delivers the main anthem of the coming winter season with their last release for 2007 and seals an
amazing first year, ensuring itself a honour spot amongst the top respected labels.

Your Lateral Head
Review: Kenneth James Gibson is a man of many personas. Keeping up with him can be a time consuming, yet rewarding venture into sound. As soon as you think you know him and can grasp what's going on, he puts on yet another mask and becomes something else. Always a surprise and never a letdown, he gives us what we want but don't expect. A rare stone in today's musical climate, Ken is rolling and collects no moss. Ken's first recordings were as the guitarist, singer, part time keyboardist and producer of the 90's indie rock band "Furry Things". He slowly grew tired of being in a "band" and started producing a slew of electronic mish mash on his own as "Eight Frozen Modules". Starting out with a guitar, half broken sampler (given to him by "King Coffee" of the legendary Texas band "The Butthole Surfers"), a drum machine, borrowed synths and a four track, Ken laid down an off kilter mix of electro, abstract hip hop, dub and techno. In 1997 he moved to California and has released music under the names [a]pendics.shuffle, The Premature Wig, Dub Loner, Electronic Music Composer, Reverse Commuter and Bal Cath for such labels such as Kit Clayton's "Orthlorng Musork", "Orac", "Mineral", "Tigerbeat 6", "Skor", "Planet-Mu", "g25/ Very Friendly", "Proptronix", "Headinghome", "Mos Ferry". Next on the Resopal Red imprint is no other than the California based Gibson, this time as the ever reliable [A]pendics Shuffle, who has been presenting some classic releases for several years. We don't know how he's producing that much good stuff under his monickers but we're glad he teamed up with us exclusively for this Kenneth James G. output. The A-side "Your Condition" is a fresh minimal tech track with a steady bass kick, crispy beats, nice vocal snippet and moody, minimal atmosphere. The flip strikes with a condition bouncy bassline, clicking beats and vigorous synth. All in all again really fresh sounds with lots of soul and inspiring depth for the dancefloor. Does all this you just read make sense? Maybe not in your world, but in Ken's world it's just another day.

Re.You - "In My Arms" (feat David Ennio Minor) (5:53)
Florian Busse - "Bodhran" (8:24)
Review: The Younion imprint clearly has big ambitions for 2017, both in terms of musical calibre and artistic selection. Their second instalment drops on vinyl format with a pretty raucous line-up that includes tech-house legends Tiefschwarz, alongside Re.You and Florian Busse. Tiefschwarz appear next to the young talent of Ruede Hegelstein on the wondrous "Jetlag", a powerful, charging bit of techno that's driven forwards by a distinctive house swing. Re.You's "In My Arms" features David Ennio Minor, and it's the sort of dark, brooding, tech-minded house that flows to an excellent tribal motion, whereas Busse's "Bodhran" is clearly more concerned with the beat-swing of traditional tech-house for the peak hours. HOT.

Review: The mighty Get Physical label revisits a classic here with Rework's 'You're So Just Just' from back in 2020 getting some fresh new reworks by Detroit dons Seth Troxler X Ryan Crosson and Berlin fav Cinthie alongside an updated version from the act themselves. That version goes first and on it the bass rolls deep, and the drums are snappy and upright. Visionquest co-founders Troxler and Crosson serve up a remix full of trippy sound designs and wiggling hooks, then Cinthie, who runs the Elevate store and 803 Crystal Grooves label, brings her timeless house sound as its hypnotic loops and punchy kick patterns are draped in old-school chord vamps.
