Review: Forget Peter, Bjorn and John. This is the whistling tune of the summer. This is Claude VonStroke's long awaited follow-up to last summer's smash "Deep Throat". Claude VonStroke is positioned for an explosion this year, his debut album received rave reviews in UK press (4/5 in Mixmag/DJ/IDJ plus features), he recently recorded a live hot mix and interview on Pete Tong's Radio 1 show (went out July 14th), he has tracks on 4 Fabric compilations, album tracks have been remixed by the likes of Sebastien Leger, DJ Sneak etc. A side "The Whistler" is Detroit booty meets Jiminy Cricket; with a memorable hook that sticks to your shoes long after you've left the club. It has already generated complete mania at the biggest parties in San Francisco and now has big international support from the UK crowd like Damian Lazarus and Nic Fanciulli. The B side is just as deadly, but deep and sultry, like an old Carl Craig track re-worked and updated for 2006. "Who's Afraid of Detroit" has the makings of a deep classic anthem and is being dropped by everyone from Paul Woolford to Ben Watt. It is an homage to Claude's hometown Detroit, the city that inspired his music career.

Review: It's been a while since we last heard from deep cover tech house crew OdD, but finally they're back on their own label OdD Music. As demonstrated throughout their discography, the pairing of Damian Daley and Danny Dixon have a unique touch when it comes to their craft, edging a little bite and verve into their productions which is instantly more interesting than 90% of music in the close vicinity. Even the comparatively minimal '1m Pendulum' has more than enough intrigue in the looping phrases darting around the groove. 'Hotep' has an almost French micro house flavour to it, but with a little UK rudeness when it reaches the final third. 'Obelisk' takes the prize though, edging some genuinely moving keys into the mix across a long form, live-feeling techno trip-out.

Review: In the lead up to the release of their debut album early next year, Mandar has decided to out a trio of 12" samplers. This is the first of the three, and contains two fresh new cuts from the four-man outfit. On the A-side you'll find "La Bocca", which craftily works dub-influenced textures and fluid electronic motifs around a bold, bumpin' and bass-heavy groove. The inherent dreaminess of their productions can be further admired on flipside "Lawed Mack". It's notably deeper and hazier than its' predecessor, with a groove that shuffles, rather than bangs, but retains a percussive solidity that suggests it would sound fantastic over a decent sound system.

Review: "Allied" is dynamic breakbeat techno from T++ on Erosion.

Review: Chymera's debut for Ovum, "Umbrella", is a power packed release with remixes by the legendary Funk D'Void and Spooky. The original mix of "Umbrella" is a beautiful deep techno journey. The track has a very emotional feel and is clearly influenced by the sounds of Detroit. Funk D'void steps in on the remix and pumps the energy up, making this a stormer. On the b-side Spooky funks the track out with a synth bass line that completely changes the vibe. This is an amazing package and should be rocking the dancefloors all summer.

Review: Syncom Data Records delivers three excellent new takes of the excellent, genre-defying and astounding "Beyond The Stars". Speedy J takes off with a deep, dark and minimal techno track from the industrial realms of Rotterdam. This will freak the crowds. Syncom Data go as deep as they can with the pulsating, low-end, trippy "SD Mix". Finally Legowelt proves his love for dirty, pumping Chicago jack with this constantly rising techno mix that builds to a superb climax that will lift the roof and rock the floor.

Review: A very mysterious release from Berlin, produced by Torsten Pröfrock of the Hardwax crew. Along with Robert Henke, Torsten is one half of the infamous Monolake production team. The sound is deep, textured and rich. Two tracks that will appeal greatly to fans of Deep Chord and Basic Channel etc, but it has that little something extra, pushing it a little bit further. It's very good and is one of those that will be remembered for years to come. If ever the term "future classic" was apt, that time is now. Recommended.

Review: This weapons grade follow up could well be knocking on as a prime contender for single of the year.

Review: The long awaited return of Rick Wilhite, Marcellus Pittman, Theo Parrish and Kenny Dixon Jr. (aka Moodymann), four of Detroit's hottest musicians jamming on live instruments in one studio. The 3 Chairs are back with three new tracks.

Review: A great compilation EP with some beautiful techno tracks. Deep driving percussive techno tracks with nice warm and emotional strings. Amazing tracks for the mind and soul, but without forgetting your ass and feet! A lovely release.

Review: Another beautiful record with some of the nicest techno ever made. Nice warm techno tracks with its roots in Detroit but with its flowers growing in the Eastern parts of Germany.

Review: New from tech house producer Adryan, "The Jazzer" features some distinctive one-note organ stabs that drive the tune nicely, with uplifting beats propelling it even further. Russ Gabriel's mix is almost unrecognisable at first, keeping the vibe more intense and hypnotic as the bassy strings grow and swell over the top of a nu-disco beat. "Slight Return" is another winner that winds itself down to just the barest keys and then builds up again.

Review: The success story of the two guys from Karlsruhe Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann (aka Ame) is showing no signs of waning. Having led the annual charts of Groove and De:Bug magazines, provided Pete Tong with a single of the month and even making a DJ mix for said DJ's BBC show, the Essential Selection. Their hit "Rej" has been christened by Louie Vega and Danny Krivit (Masters At Work) as the "Plastic Dreams" of the new millennium. So here is their first official mix-compilation! Their DJ sets are currently being celebrated everywhere from Miami to Paris and Helsinki, so it was only a matter of time until they immortalized one of their kicking mixes for home use on an official mix album. Sonar Kollektiv label bosses Jazzanova delivered the first in this "...Mixing" series and in so doing earned worldwide thanks for making one of their eclectic DJ sets available in digital format for the first time. The duo from Karlsruhe selection is no less varied as they switch from old to new, through house, disco, minimal and techno. Synth pioneer Laurie Spiegel, who already presented a prototype of the Detroit techno sound in the 70s, sets things off with her "Appalachian Grove 1" which was written in Fortran (an old computer programme, long before Basic or C). The unusual track "24 Hours From Culture II" from 80s Dutch wave band New Musik is to this day a favourite of DJs like Daniele Baldelli and DJ Harvey. He later also used the classic "Woman Of The World" by Swiss group Formation Double on his legendary "Sarkastic Disco" mix. "Stand Up" from Nexus could easily be mistaken for a Metro Area number. Besides Ame another name that is often being mentioned with regards to the deephouse renaissance is Henrik Schwarz. His most striking remix to date is also his most timeless. The way he accentuates the voice of Robert Owens with opulent strings on Coldcut's "Walk A Mile" means it'll still give you goose bumps in ten years. Ben Westbeech is the star of Gilles Petersons new label Brownswood Records. His track "So Good Today" unites the typical Yoruba style with analogue Chicago sounds. God of remixers, Carl Craig's version of Jonny L's This "Time" was previously only available as a promo so for some the search for this jazz, house and techno hybrid ends with this release. The latest addition to the Innervisions label which Âme started with Dixon is Gilb'R & I:Cube (aka Chateau Flight). Their wide tune "Baroque" makes the perfect bridge to Luciano's "Stone Age" which has been a central part of the Ame DJ set for over two years so could not have been left out of this collection. "Flashback 86" sounds, as the title suggest, as though it might have been made in the late 80s, however actually it is produced by Jonathan Burnip who can otherwise be found behind the counter of London's Soul Jazz record store. Derrick May's Funtopia featuring Jimi Polo remix was also previously only available as a promo. It was given to Ame by Dominic Capello, manager of Glasgow's Sub Club. Of course Ame's own breakthrough track, "Nia", must be celebrated once more before it gets slightly quieter, although no less exciting, with Jump Cutz "Deep Introspection #5". This track is another true classic and favourite of Needs Crew that has long been almost impossible to get. And as true Manuel Gottsching fans Ame of course had to include an Ashra number in the mix. Their track "Sunrain" has been a big influence on the club music of today. As a whole, Ame's "...Mixing" is not just a bridge between old and new, club and home stereo. It also serves as an interesting connection between various musical genres which are currently dominating the good metropolitan clubs.

Only 2000 of the original LP were pressed. Full picture gatefold sleeve with blue and yellow coloured vinyl. Limited pressing of 300 so snatch these up!

Review: In the last four years, Dominik Eulberg has been releasing on his native label Traum. His previous nine 12"s have made him quite a hotbed for music, which has lead to an international following of his unique style of "wild life techno" To copy him seems impossible, as there is no other DJ/producer who can represent this style so authentically. The influence of nature and his domestic grounds, the bird twitter and nature sounds in general have made his music easy to identify with. The "Heimische Gefilde" (native habitat) LP takes the concept of his debut album "Flora & Fauna" a step further and at the same time is a retrospective of his major hits. Dominik Eulberg's music is much more that just a straight bass drum enriched with samples. Every track is presented and each animal is introduced by Dominik, expressed in a lyrical, almost poetic form. Nature does it all by itself as Dominik states.

Review: From the studio of Scott Grooves comes this exclusive repress for Clone of this very hard-to-find house track, "The Journey". This was originally released in 2004 and responsible for countless joyful moments on dancefloors worldwide. On the flip you'll find the beats mix. This was used on Carl Craig's Fabric mix album and with big support from Ame, Dennis Ferrer, Sydenham, Omar S, DJ Rolando, Charles Webster and many others. Glad to see "The Journey" finally available again.

Review: "Deep In Mind" is a nice EP from this stunning label, Styrax Leaves. This is deep, dubby techno with warm sounds that seem to keep on going forever. It is for all the cats who can't get enough of that addictive sound of Deepchord, Maurizio and Basic Channel.

Review: Redshape's profile is still rapidly growing. Bearing in mind that it has been just over one year since Redshape's first EP was released on Delsin - a lot of things have happened! This new EP, "Steam", comes in clunky and rough. "Light" is a deeply beatless synth excursion while the flip brings more hot stuff. This is catchy stuff.

Review: After the stunning Dapayk & Padberg project from last year (#3 Groove Mag Year 2005 Charts). Here's the new strike: Dapayk Solo!! "This shit rocks like hell! The pre single 'Marek Stolpert' is mad and bounces straight into my ear! My absolute favourite track though is definitely woo!! Awesome and will be played for sure!! The vocal is not too intrusive and leaves a little glitch in my heartbeat. Normally I have a hard time with break beat inspired tracks but you make the sexiness in 'Didn't I' last and so it also gets played to show the whole gang of minimal sounds what's really going on." - Anja Schneider, "Really wicked album here from one of my favourites. He always manages to walk the line between really rough experimental sounds, and nice quirky functional funk, and this album is no different. Review: Gene is back again fresh off his Abe Duque Records contributions. Best known for his voodoo style techno on labels Cocoon and Stripped. "Off the Wagon" is quite a journey with a rolling bass thump leading into swirling synths and mysterious stabs grab hold of the sound. A long build pauses the mix and the hair raising twist begins. On the flip "Tantra" is sexy, very in tense and very voodoo just perfect for ADR.

Review: After their very successful last 12" 'Ojomo/Nia' (SK027), the boys from Karlsruhe present us with their follow-up on Sonar Kollektiv,
two new tracks taken from their upcoming album 'Ame' (SK044CD). Basically this album is more a collection of their 12"s, but these
two tunes are fresh and new. Ame show us their evolution in composition, arrangement and production with each release. And they
are already working on new stuff. No more words are necessary, please just have a listen to the music. Thanks.

Review: The runaway success of Metro Area 4 EP (released November 2001) surpassed all expectation, not least the Metro Area's own. The feature track "Miura" - a sinister, sparse and absolutely unique piece of dance music - captured the imagination of a broad cross-section of DJs, dancers and listeners from almost every genre. Ubiquitously charted and still played with reverence today, "Miura" unwittingly broke Metro Area's music out of the underground. Nonetheless, in keeping with the duo's low profile approach, not a single promo was mailed out to stimulate sales and the frenzy was created purely by word-of-mouth. Don't sleep on the two boogie gems that back the A-side: "Let's Get..." and the Preludesque "Strut."

Review: Shortly after his introduction to the audience the Fluxion project presents its first long play release which consists mainly of the previous 12" releases on the label. Influences of projects like Maurizio (aka Basic Channel) or Substance are present, but Fluxion manages to bring in enough additional aspects and the depth of its productions are at least impressive.

Review: Delayed for over 1 year. Side A's 'Man On Fire' is a battle between man and sound. Running xylophone solos and a mean bassline take shape over a stomping kick. 'Schmoov' slows things down for a warm, calming experience. Support from Joe Claussell, Spinna, K Carvajal and Glenn Underground.

Review: This EP sees the track re-worked and re-edited by some of electronic music's greatest innovators. Carl Craig's epic mix is absolutely astonishing, floor shaking stuff. Baby Ford drops a futuristic minimal masterpiece, while The DFA's take is another definitive disco moment.

Review: Redshape's first appearance on this new German label is filled with subliminal funk. "Pink Dust" stepping in dirty and rough with analog energy and sharp synths, mighty force for every dancefloor. "Requiem" is a short, heavy - Food & Art - influenced, moment of breath in intergalactic wars. On the flip "3 Spin Dust" is a bad monster of beat and noise, made for the third turntable. Finishing with title track "Telefunk" on B2, deep deep, scary chords, old school percussions, dark pianos from another reality, step into the funk!

Review: Two raw house tracks heavy influenced by the early sounds of Chicago and Detroit. Raw jacking bassment trax which shake like there is no tomorrow. The perfect balance between soulful beauty and total chaos.

Review: Side A unleashes a monster by the legendary Larry Heard (aka Mr Fingers aka Gherkin Jerk). Think 'Acid Indigestion' with a different banging 909 drum track. Side B is the highly sought-after Kenny Larkin remix of 'Share My Life' by Inner City.

Review: Solid, solid sampler of dope house tracks from the UK's Greenhouse imprint, with some mighty talented producers contributing killer cuts here. Loads of flavours on this one, from the tough and jacking to the more smoothed out spliffed up tip. Demarkus Lewis laying a dancefloor smackdown with "Hide Go Seek", while Just Jason's "Every Generation" is more of a jazzy-flavoured late night gem. Throw in the minimalist, Freaks- ish bump of Vernon and Dacosta, plus newcomer Glen Goates, and you've got a ridiculously good taster of delicious beats Greenhouse again bringing the quality appeal for the Troydon, Inland Knights or Littlemen heads.

Review: Anders Trentemøller is one of the rising stars of the dance music scene, his remixes and productions have gained critical acclaim from a broad range of DJs and producers including Pete Tong, Sasha, John Digweed, Switch, MANDY, Mylo, Nathan Fake and Freeform Five. Released on the influential Poker Flat label this is set to be one of the definitive releases of 2006. Available as a limited edition double CD and double LP. Trentemøller is currently the most in-demand remixer (recently delivering critically acclaimed mixes for The Pet Shop Boys, The Knife, Royksöpp, Sharon Phillips and Moby) with releases on Naked Music, Get Physical, and of course Poker Flat/Audiomatique.

Review: Dave Seaman's Audio Therapy is the forward thinking label that keeps on delivering cutting edge progressive house. The long awaited second instalment in Audio Therapy's Sampler Collections, "Autumn/ Winter 2006", is finally here. These are the samplers to accompany the 10 track CD compilation, full of hot remixes and unreleased tracks exclusively commissioned for this release. Bringing the production talents of Pole Folder, Shlomi Aber and 16 Bit Lolita's to the Therapy fold, alongside long time Therapy stalwarts such as G Pal, Habersham, Stelios Vassiloudis and Oliver Moldan's Prawler.

Review: The classic song, Miranda which hasn't been available on wax in over 10 years, finally resurfaces with new mastering and a new package. This song was originally released as Untitled from the first Convextion release in history (MATRIX 1). One of the most sought after and beautifully composed works to come out of Detroit in the 90s. Played by everyone across the globe, luminaries such as Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, Kenny Larkin, Carl Craig, Chain Reaction Crew, DJ Rolando, Swayzak, Mad Mike Banks, James Pennington, Felix and countless others. If you are a fan of Basic Channel or Carl Craig this release is one of the most important pieces to the puzzle that is Detroit techno!

Review: The journey continues. After the successful start of Diynamic 001 and 002 are followed by the third release. This time Solomun is joined by HOSH - who is reknown for his "Venuswelle" on Oliver Koletzki´s label "Stil Vor Talent" and as a member of Motion040. 'Sonnenbrand' was my summer 06 - sexy, warm groovy housechords - hot and happy. On the flip, 'Hanseknaller' is a deep prime time track with a surprising emotional turn at the end. Lastly 'Dunkelkammer', a groovy, monotone housetrip.

Review: The last 4/4 techno release was his amazing release on KMS "The Book". While busy running his own cool Vmax label for his obscure and more freaky electro-techno experiments, Heath drops some amazing techno tracks on Frantic Flowers that will be appealing to a much wider audience then his release on Frantic Flower's sister label Frustrated Funk. Classic Detroit techno energetic and uplifting with smooth effective basslines.

Review: After his successful singles on Amsterdam's Delsin and his own Wabi Sabi label, DJ Yoav B, return to drop three more house dancefloor anthems. His previous releases were played out and charted by Derrick May, Shake, Webster, Luciano, Dan Curtin and others... This release: side A is fully reserved for this thick, thick, thick bassline, which will be fired at you at many dancefloors around you. Coming slow, but with full intensity, in old Chicago style. Side B brings on two more uptempo lo-fi house tracks, both spaced-out, but both with this natural feel, which trademarks his previous releases. Bang, bang, watch this man!
