Beware Of The Bird
Beware Of The Bird (Justin Martin remix)
Review: The flagship track from the album that has been called both "Bird Brained Genius" and "A highly seductive affair". "Beware Of The Bird" builds and falls like a techno electro car chase, working perfectly with a big sweaty dance floor. The ever so funky Justin Martin also brings us a rare mix of nice and nasty that is not often heard these days.

Review: "Sick Sick Sick!!" says US house master, Johnny Fiasco. "Can I please come over?" asks the creepy but lovable voice throughout Claude VonStroke's new 'Deep Throat'. It was first played by Brett Johnson to a screaming crowd of freaks at the Miami Winter Music Conference.

The Whistler
Who's Afraid Of Detroit?
Review: Forget Peter, Bjorn and John. This is the whistling tune of the summer. This is Claude VonStroke's long awaited follow-up to last summer's smash "Deep Throat". Claude VonStroke is positioned for an explosion this year, his debut album received rave reviews in UK press (4/5 in Mixmag/DJ/IDJ plus features), he recently recorded a live hot mix and interview on Pete Tong's Radio 1 show (went out July 14th), he has tracks on 4 Fabric compilations, album tracks have been remixed by the likes of Sebastien Leger, DJ Sneak etc. A side "The Whistler" is Detroit booty meets Jiminy Cricket; with a memorable hook that sticks to your shoes long after you've left the club. It has already generated complete mania at the biggest parties in San Francisco and now has big international support from the UK crowd like Damian Lazarus and Nic Fanciulli. The B side is just as deadly, but deep and sultry, like an old Carl Craig track re-worked and updated for 2006. "Who's Afraid of Detroit" has the makings of a deep classic anthem and is being dropped by everyone from Paul Woolford to Ben Watt. It is an homage to Claude's hometown Detroit, the city that inspired his music career.

Review: The first CD album release on Dirtybird features the wildly creative mind of Claude Von Stroke. "Beware Of The Bird" is a cohesive mixture of sexy tech-funk and raw electro soul that ranges all the way from catchy dancefloor hooks to heartfelt emotion. Described as "Bird Brained Genius" Claude Von Stroke's underground sound is both refreshing and genre bending. "Beware Of The Bird is a killer." - DJ T (Get Physical), "Quirky, Bird Brained Genius" - M8 magazine, "This is one perfectly produced set that smacks of sophistication without ever taking itself too seriously." - DJ Mag.

Who's Afraid Of Detroit (Audion remix)
Who's Afraid Of Detroit (Tanner Ross remix)
Who's Afraid Of Detroit (Kevin Saunderson remix)
Review: It was always going to be a tough job working out a way to improve on the original, voted by Richie Hawtin as 'best track of 2006', and it's debatable whether these three huge remixes are actually any better than VonStroke's original anthem. What is indisputable however is that with names like Audion (who had probably the biggest selling underground techno record of 2006 with "Mouth To Mouth") and Kevin Saunderson (where do you start?) on board you will get versions stamped with their sound and authority. And without a doubt both come up with very strong mixes that hold their own against the original. The real surprise here though is the Tanner Ross remix. This relative newcomer brings the track bang up to date with a bass-bumping re-rub that will without doubt be rocking dancefloors worldwide.

Review: Chimps has been a huge crowd fave all across the world on Claude Vonstroke's album tour, chock full of influences from drum n bass and hip-hop, while rocking a hard acid line and jungle congos. Two very heavy remixes by Connoisseur's Jochen Trappe and Liebe Detail's Alland Byallo make this one of the best Dirty Bird releases yet!!

Review: At last the new album from the somewhat legendary Claude VonStroke of the San Francisco labels Dirtybird and Mothership is here. Remaining ever inventive, the clever production techniques used to make his inimitable breed of minimal tech-house are no disappointment on Bird Brain.

From the epic opening track, the aptly-named “Monster Island”, we hear an instant representation of the creative array of sounds he’s been perfecting over the last years, dipping into dramatically dark tones amongst wonkier tracks like singles “The Greasy Beat” and “Beat That Bird”. The disgustingly catchy

“California” and “Big ’n’ Round” mix bassy kickdrums whilst playing with echoing and rising vocals, while “Vocal Chords” terrifyingly pitches them in scales. Far from a one-trick pony, the album features the softly ambient “Aundy” and hip-hop tinged “Bay Area” whilst the end track is an almost percussion-less piece with subtle vocal samples.

LFO I Love You (David Mayer edit) (6:31)
LFO I Love You (Andrea Di Rocco remix) (6:47)
Review: Back in 2014, Italian Andrea Di Rocco and the notorious Claude VonStroke's old school club tool "LFO I Love You" appeared on the latter's 7 Days Of Dirtybird compilation alongside the likes of Kyle Watson, Sonny Fodera and Christian Martin. It now gets a bunch of wicked remixes that are just as good as the original. We personally enjoyed fellow Italian duo NiCe7; their driving, four to the floor electro rendition is reminiscent of early noughties shenanigans by The Hacker or Vitalic. Keinemusik's David Mayer turns in a nice edit of the original, pretty handy we must say. Finally Andrea Di Rocco himself steps up to the challenge and gives us a new take on an old classic.

Make A Cake (6:03)
Review: Claude Vonstroke, the American minimal house and techno sensation who has always released quality output through his very own Dirtybird imprint and who has also catered us with a vast collection of previously unknown artists from around the world. While he has been keeping busy doing a&r work in recent years, the man returns with two of his own tracks, a pair of ingenious little floor stompers to blow your speakers out. "Barrump" is classic Claude, where miniscule vocal samples are torn down and manipulated into quasi-melodies amid his inimitable blends of tribalism. On the B-side, "Make A Cake" is similarly playful in its sampling approach and it's sure to work wonders on those August beach parties on the Balearic islands.

Review: Much of the press leading up to the release of Barclay Crenshaw's third album under the Claude von Stroke moniker (the last, Bird Brain, dropped in 2009) has concentrated on his rediscovery of his little-known drum & bass roots, and his flirtation with Juke-influenced rhythms. While you can certainly here these influences - check the pared-down synth melodies and skittering 808 rhythms of "The Bridge" and the jungle revival of "Oakland Rope" - Urban Animal is about a lot more than that. Its' influences are many and varied - deep house, UK garage, crunk, P-funk, even organ-heavy funk (see "The Clapping Track") - giving it a rounded, "proper dance album" feel. It's also arguably Crenshaw's strongest set to date.

The Clapping Track (Solomun remix)
Urban Animal (Dixon dub mix)
Review: Given the respect of his peers Claude Von Stroke brandishes, it's little surprise to discover the high standard of contributing artists involved in Urban Animal Remixed, a self explanatory addendum collection of remixes to the Dirtybird boss's third LP Urban Animal. Photek, Jimmy Edgar, Krust, Dixon, and Solomun all contribute to the upcoming collection, offering both pedigree and diversity, with the efforts from the two latter producers included on this 12" sampler. In Solomun's hands "The Clapping Track" is transformed into a floor friendly house cut that will be servicing many Croatian evenings this summer, whilst Dixon works his magic on the album's title track.

Review: While he's been relatively slack on the original release front in recent times, Dirtybird boss Claude Von Stroke hasn't slacked when it comes to knocking out remixes - as this 12-track collection of CVS Makeovers proves. As an audio calling card, it's quietly impressive, pairing rhythmic diversity with floor-friendly builds, breakdowns and grooves. Few of the reworks stick too closely to the original material, resulting in some surprising interpretations. So, Gonzales' oddball "I Am Europe" is turned into a quirky midtempo swinger, Cajmere goes fidget, Girl Unit's "Wut" gets a sparkly electro-meets-rave re-boot and Katy B's "Easy Please Me" is reinvented as a bubbling UKG roller.

The End Of The Lime (6:03)
Review: Enthusiasm is the new EP from Los Angelenos Claude VonStroke and Walker & Royce, described as 'a primal celebration of life and the return of the rave.' The title track is a boompty, bass-heavy and downright orotund dancefloor shaker delivered in the idiosyncratic Dirtybird style that you have come to know and love. Whereas the A side offering was aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor, B side cut 'The End Of The Lime' caters for the afterhours crowd on this druggy minimal house jam that goes blip, blurp and bleep well into Sunday morning.

Seven Deadly Strokes (Patrick Chardronnet remix)
Review: Kung Fu fan Claude VonStroke offers something very special with 'Seven Deadly Strokes' which teases the mind into creating pictures of fighting scenes Bruce Lee would be proud of. VonStroke's production on this piece is nothing short of spectacular with attention to details so precise that you discover something new about the track with each inspection. Patrick Chardronnet's remix builds and builds a deep rich atmosphere by keeping some of the original elements, adding a subtle deep bassline to this irresistibly grooving techno gem and a final magic breakdown that pleases every crowd from Barcelona to Glasgow.
