Pimping People In High Places (Woodword Ave alternative mix) (6:51)
The Medusa Touch (6:51)
Review: The Det 313 label is kicking off the new year with a bang and dropping a pair of brilliant new EPs on the same day in late January. This one is a reissue of the esteemed Gary Martin's 'Pimping People In High Places' on 10". It's the Woodword Ave alternative mix that kicks off and is a rough and ready percussive techno looper with hefty basslines underlapping and propping up the floor. 'The Medusa Touch' is a more wily and synth laced-late night jaunt with mystic energy and acid details that make it a deep and dramatic cut with real dynamism.

Review: Greyscale unveils its latest endeavour, the Spectrum Series, as a way to continue to evolve its offerings and this time it is with something that makes a vibrant departure from its traditional black-and-white aesthetic. The inaugural release features the iconic Lithuanian dub track 'Kasdienybes Sventykla' by grad_u & Eazystyle MC as a way of commemorating its 15th anniversary. It came as a double CD in 2011 but now gets a first vinyl pressing on a nice 10" slab of wax. The track itself taps into the earliest roots of dub in the 70s and traces a line through the 80s with its heavyweight drums and endlessly echoing bass topped by great mic work. A pared-back instrumental features on the flip of this latest crucial drop from the dub dons at Greyscale

Paean (Lone remix)
Paean (Coda)
Paean (Lukid remix)
Review: Given that the precocious Nathan Fake was a pioneer in the area of melodic, indie meets electronic, it's strange to hear him calling a release Paean. Despite this, it's business as usual for the UK producer, with a cascade of melodic lines and psychedelic modulations unfolding over a rattling break beat. By contrast, the Coda remix is but a short, noisy outro and Lukid's version is a noisy, bass-heavy broken beat reshape. It's the Lone version that most articulately captures the spirit of the original version. The synth sounds redefine the term 'breezy' and, over brittle break beats, veer into melodies so sweet that they could replace the sugar in your morning cup of coffee.

I Don't Feel (Deetron instrumental remix)
Review: An Aeroplane classic gets the Deetron treatment on the second limited edition 10" release from the Eskimo label. Originally released as part of Aeroplane's ambitious debut LP We Can't Fly, the Merry Clayton featuring "I Don't Feel" had never been remixed before the Swiss producer was invited to rework it as part of the exhaustive, multi disc ten year anniversary Eskimonde compilation from the seminal Belgian imprint. No doubt the track had previously remained untouched due to Clayton's powerful vocal turn which melded perfectly with Vito De Luca's rubbery Hi NRG production, but you can't fault the way that Deetron has reworked it, laying down an extended intro that burns with intensity before dropping a thumping, precision tooled beat. A previously unreleased Instrumental version adds some heat on the flip.

Let's Talk
Vicodin
Review: Naked Lunch unleash two effortlessly cool, idiosyncratic productions from Instra:mental. "Let's Talk" is an ocean deep, slow burning crossover between house and dubstep. It utilises the warm, clicky tone of the constant kick drum that penetrates the atmospheric soundscape of background chime and tension building static. Echoed melody snatches and pulsing synthesized bass stabs create an ominous sense of foreboding that is heightened by the somewhat unsettling, down-pitched vocals. On the flip, "Vicodin" picks up the tempo as the duo indulge their dubstep palette once more. Keeping their futurist sentiments in hand, they keep the sound unique and fresh with some intricate percussion and beatless structure. Wrapped around thumping sub bass and Detroit styled piano chords, this is an atmospheric stepper that moves with a fluid arrangement for the deepest part of the night.

They Prove here that they are big talents with their release 'Was Berlin', the 6th release of the very successful Minisketch 10inch series. Hate Internet (Claro Intelecto remix)
Review: Autoreply Music marks the coming of the summer season with a very tidy little 10" from OCH. This man recently recorded for Baby Ford's PAL SL imprint, gaining support from a diverse range of DJing luminaries including ZIP, Sammy Dee and Efdemin. Now the mysterious producer steps up with a big room floor rocker that has been described as Ian Pooley's "Chord Memory" meets Christian Vogel. Thunderous drums, hypnotizing chords and a cheeky sample that the old house heads will be sure to recognise make this one for the peak time. Claro Intelecto's Warehouse Sessions on Modern Love is regarded by many as one of the most definitive collections of contemporary techno to hit the shelves in recent years. Fresh back from remixing Depeche Mode he takes time out of his busy schedule for remix duties. Taking his cues from the warehouse classics that accompanied him through years in Manchester's revered clubs like the Hacienda, Home and Paradise Factory, he serves up a powerful, stripped down reworking of the original track that is equally suited to sweaty dance floors. Fasten your seatbelts.

Review: The Sushitech festivities continue unabated with this bittersweet repress of an all-time classic from the much-missed Detroit figurehead Mike Huckaby. 'Baseline '87' ranks amongst his most fabled works, riding as it does around an irresistibly catchy square wave bass hook and one of those no-nonsense beats that the legendary producer did so well. For the sound of Huckaby in full flight though, 'Musik For The Dancefloor' on the flip soars thanks to the interplay between the pads and chords while retaining that steadfast focus. In memory of a true dance music hero, why not revisit a classic that should be comfortably sat in every record bag?

Review: Sushitech continue to celebrate the depth and breadth of their catalogue with another 15th anniversary reissue in the form of this surefooted two-tracker from Delano Smith and Norm Talley. This is the sweet spot where Detroit house and Detroit techno intertwine, leading in with the dreamy haze and steady trucking groove of 'Constellation'. 'Detroit 2-Step' has a spicier demeanour which artfully merges sultry sax with an ear-snagging riff which sounds organic and metallic all at once. Again, the groove is locked down and impossible to shake off course, making this heady club tackle for those who want to season their set with some of the finest rollers in the game.

Mystic Funk (7:26)
Review: We've previously enthused about Markus Sommer's seemingly innate ability to combine funk-fuelled house and techno rhythms with dreamy and melodious musical elements. He's at it again on this first outing on Twig. A-side "Mystic Blues" is a near perfect example of this trademark trait, with whistling melody lines, warm bass and undulating electronic motifs riding a snappy, Chicago jack style drum machine groove. He flips the script slightly on "Mystic Funk", fixing his dreamy chords and starry electronics to a drum track that sits somewhere between two-step garage and bumping U.S house. In other words, it's another rock solid outing from the fast-rising producer.

Heal (8:29)
Plight (8:27)
Review: From his appearances on Aesthetic Audio and Ornate through to his own Atmospheric Existence label, Miles Sagnia continues to be one of the best kept secrets of British deep techno, and that's no more apparent than on this stunning release for Common Dreams. There's a looped up insistence to "Heal", but it's offset by emotive movement in the synth lines and an overall spiritual quality that escapes much cyclical techno. "Plight" takes a slightly slower path, amping up the early UK electronica tones for an immersive experience shaped out by interlocking rhythms and snaking melodies. It's a truly classy statement that stays true to techno while saying something original.

Review: Some fresh material from Maayan Nidam is always welcome here at Juno HQ. It's approaching cliche but Nidam trades in quality not quantity, her two solo albums augmented by a smattering of singles across Perlon, Freak N Chic and Wolf N Lamb and the recent signing to Nina Kraviz's TRIP label. Of course Nidam has a strong relationship with Perlon, extending beyond her solo work to encompass the Mara Trax collaboration with Vera, and this latest record is a fine addition to both artist and label's discographies. Arriving in 10" format, Deep Under Sobriety Regime pairs the deep, trippy driving sounds of the title track with "Looking Through A Glassy Mind" which sounds like an abstracted take on Mr Oizo classic "Flat Beat." Perlon also include two locked groove loops from Nidam for the more adventurous DJs out there.

On the A side, we've got the bouncy and funked up tech house of "Down With Tha" where that very vocal loop is chopped up to perfection. Review: Borne out of the Glasgow, London and beyond-based parties of the same name, the Huntleys & Palmers label is an intermittent yet worthy sonic companion, notable for introducing the wider world to the talents of Auntie Flo and SOPHIE. Having re-emerged from the party season with some Highlife Edits from the aforementioned Auntie Flo, Huntleys & Palmers now usher in the full label debut of Comeme's Buenos Aires-based correspondents DJs Pareja. The production and DJ pairing of Mariano Caloso & Diego Irasusta, DJs Pareja are no strangers to H&P having played their events previously and the two track Steps 10" pairs a title cut grounded in kwaito and UK Funky with the oddball "La Risa" which has trace elements of Detroit electro amidst the slightly foreboding laughing that runs out throughout.

This instalment finds the producer in fine fettle as he delves into his measured and atmospheric take on pristine house and techno. "Starts From Now" opts for a more concise kind of deep house, all elegiac pads and rock solid swinging groove.

Roman Flugel is a special kind of talent whose work should always make the cut to vinyl so it's great to see his rework of the 2012 Glimpse and Martin Dawson (RIP) production "Fat Controller" for the HypeDigi label transferred to 12". Review: Iceland's Thule imprint is back in action with a string of welcome reissues that shed new light on an impressive back catalogue of dub-infused techno from the late '90s. Sanasol were one of the main operators on said label, and so their a.m.e.p release gets a remastering treatment here and it's not a moment too soon. "Glow" rips into action on a surging tempo even as the cyclical percussive and melodic hits fall with a light tough, making for the perfect kind of uplifting dub techno without all the leaden sub bass and overbearing feedback. "Five AM" is a highly advanced track for its age, moving with the subtlety and dexterity of Livity Sound material albeit some fifteen years ahead of the curve. "Matrix Noise" too finds an interesting, unconventional groove to latch on to, yearning to merge into the hybrid techno-bass contortions of the present day.

Review: Leading up to James Holden's long awaited second album, Border Community offer the Holden obsessive with a remix 10" featuring new scores of "Renata" by Daphni and Steve Moore. Daphni's remix is executed in typically unpredictable fashion by the Caribou frontman Dan Snaith, as the melancholic and euphoric fervour of Holden's consuming original is calmed by a breathy vocal choral and scissor-cut salvos lifted from an early UK Garage style. Steve Moore's alternate version offers a tom drum melodic and dreamy ambient wash of hyper-coloured synths that whiz and whirl to the point of ecstasy just before climax. A essential for Holden completists.

The 10" Mindisc EP is their second release for the aforementioned Minibar and it sees Copacabannark return to a quirky and minimal squirt-effect aesthetic. "Cave" softly throbs to the sound of a tonal bassline muffled by woofy filters, as a three dimensional scope of trippy sound bites circulate the background like a confusing dream. Placid Love
Review: Very limited double 10" from Berlin based producer Sven Weisemann, who pops up with his first original release of 2010. The self taught pianist, acoustic guitarist and percussionist is just as happy dabbling in jazz and soundtracks as he is piecing together deep house and techno, and across two sumptuous 10"s we are treated to the full breadth of his talents. The ethereal beauty of "Lateral Flection" offers nary a kick drum, with Weisemann instead focusing on layering intricate sonic atmospherics. "Tidal Wave", meanwhile, conjures images of a gentle ocean rather than tsunamis, and the sparse, barely-there percussion and ghostly whispers on "Placid Love" mark it as perhaps the most beautiful moment on the LP. A well worn phrase it may be, but these tracks need to heard through a nice set of speakers or headphones for the listener to fully appreciate the subtle textures and electronic nuances. Simply stunning.

The Vulva String Quartett - "Parle Avec Moi"
The Possibles - "Elektrische Fische"
Review: This is the second part of our compilation 'Traffic III'. Douglas Greed from Jena starts off the second 10" with 'Brush', a stoic groove-mountain and techno-march that burnishes the rising sun at the open-air of your choice. The B-side begins with a track by one of the currently most productive German electronic artist: Hanno Leichtmann (Static, Kosmischer Pitch, White Hole). With his project The Vulva String Quartett, multiinstrumentalist and skilled percussionist Leichtmann has generated further room for the creation of an own universe inside a music genre - in this case it's house music. The Possibles are some kind of a supergroup of serious humour inside electronic music. Fuschi Muschi Math-Ice and former Viva-head of programming, Stefan Kauertz have grown Elektrische Fische in MPC. These fish possess specific organs with which they generate electric signals and they also have electronic receptors for the perception of signals - their own and those coming from other fish. Stefan and Futschi have found out that it's the same with themselves, therefore they named the track "Elektrische Fische" and made sure that it perfectly hits the point.

the finest of minimalistic techno sounds. Tuane has been working hard for the past three years and
this hard work resulted in high quality releases like the single '8 Years Old' featuring Alberto Andereoni.

Very deep bassline with a drifting typical melodic pattern on top. Ripperton explores the moments we all enjoy: feel it.

Tiny Slave
Hot Slave
Review: Now down to just Jay Haze, the Fuckpony project ventures into the deepest, darkest realms of the house underbelly to deliver two ruff and raw club tracks on the first of two 10" releases. "Tiny Slave" is an equally jacking adventure, with even more warped analogue sounds, spacey echoes, bleeps and fx.
