Review: New and exciting Los Angeles label YKW returns with a second release, this time from Montreal's Ohm Hourani who is well known in hardcore circles for his superb jazzy and minimal stylings. He offers one particularly standout track, 'Herbs Miles,' which mixes up a sample of Herbie Hancock discussing the legendary Miles Davis. His own live-recorded and processed trumpet layers in another soulful edge and makes it a brilliantly original jam. G76/Gojnea76 delivers a weird and wonky remix and then 'Down the Syncussion Hole' is another inventive and rather madcap sound from this studio wizard.

Review: All we really know about this one is that The Wolf is an artist based in Berlin. He has started his own label here to serve up his latest studio concoctions and this first one is all about slamming minimal cuts. All of them are untitled in true underground minimal fashion, of course and the first one pairs rickety lines with under-lapping bass and dreamy chords. The second one heads to the stars with Detroit style pads smeared about the mix over punchy but stripped back rubber kick patterns and last of all is a more thumping deep house groove with more liquid pad work and a sense of serenity.

Review: Frank Staniek has previous form in the minimal tech house scene as Frank Sonic, recording for the likes of Trapez and My Best Friend. Now he's helping shape out the sound of new San Jose label Wild Palms Trax by laying down the second release under a new alias, Link Gaetz. This is minimal delivered with a crisp focus, from the deliciously pointed 'El Camino' to the deep-diving 'Floripa'. The rhythm section is precision tooled and the atmospherics walk the line between escapism and restraint with ease. 'Cactaceae' is a freakier offering on the flip, but it's still looped up for a direct hit, while 'Into The Redwoods' plays around with vocal hooks and synth riffs for something more like an end-of-set knees up, minimal style.

Review: Watergate, the cult Berlin club known for its riverside location and legendary LED ceiling above the dancefloor, is also a reputable tech house label that deals in fresh names only. Here it is 8Kays that makes a debut with Falling Down, a selection of superb collaborations including 'Matematica' with Glowal which is tense and electric tech with indie vocals and with Juan Hansen he cooks up the medically hopeful 'Falling Down' which then gets two remixes. Review: Minimal stalwart Jay Tripwire has been as prolific as ever this year, serving up the Narcotic Oscillator EP for The Other Side and collaborating with Cristi Cons on Witching Hour. Now it's time for the Canadian veteran to serve up some boss level beats to emergent label VRNT, holding true to the rhythmic demands of the stripped-down tech house scene while finding plenty of space for expression and innovation in the sound design. 'The Real Life Of John Merrick' is a masterfully sculpted workout, while 'Pleiadian Wavelength' unfurls exquisite melodic and textural synth forms around an understated groove. Herck completes the package with a crunchy, bugged-out version of the lead track which harks back to the crooked computer funk synonymous with Canadian minimal in the mid 00s.

Review: Chris Stussy is very much one of the contemporary scene's most prominent producers. He has emerged from the Dutch underground to take the global circuit by storm as a DJ but also a studio slickster who fuses tech, minimal, house and breaks. His own label deals in just that and here it offers up a trio of trippy and future facing dance floor delights from Varhat. Review: An air of mystery surrounds this new While My Sequencer Gently Bleeps project, but what we do know is that they have two superb EPs dropping at the start of 2024. This one, OK, opens with 'Amber' which is a nice undulating and deep cut with lush synth smears. 'Emptiness' hangs synths in the air over more lithe broken beats and 'Felt' is a stripped back rhythm with majestic chords, blurts, bleeps and more all adding colour. 'Hesitation' and 'Burton' round out this sublimely supple and subtle synth record.

Review: A new year always brings with it a wealth of new labels and 2024 is proving no different. The latest to fall in our laps is Unknown Musik from Spain, and the production credits on this inaugural EP also go to Unknown Musik, although the two edits are actually by Sadkiel. They first tackle 'Latin Flute' which has some nice fresh tech beats run through with Balearic guitars and soul samples that really bring it to life. On the flip is the more minimal styling of 'September' with its pulling low ends and raw percussion as well as some edgy stabs to keep things from being all too sweet.

Unknown Collective kick off with 'Claw' which is a bubbly garage-tinged tech sound with nice bulbous melodies up top. Costas then brings sombre more zone out and bubbly house sounds on 'Are You There' and Felipe Bravo's 'Toxic Coworker' gets pumped up and textured for some more peak time action. last of all is maybe the best of the lot - JNJS brings moody late night house energy to 'Trenta.'

Review: The sixth UFOs outing is another intergalactic adventure in sonic form and this time at the buttons it's New Balaance, a Mexican artist at the heart of a new wave. Space Jungle though is an apt title for this EP, which kicks off with some stylish breaks and nimble basslines overlaid with lush cosmic arps. 'Space Jungle' (feat Parallax Modulators brings a more pensive mood thanks to the sustained chords and deeper grooves, but subtle acid and chattery perc bring it to life. 'Grantourismo' is a lively and dynamic cut with more swirling synth work while 'Redemption' closes down this quartet of excellent explorations with a mix of 90s prog, techno and breakbeats all imbued with plenty of colour.

Review: The fledgling but already notable UFO Series now looks to Italian producer and prodigious underground innovator Riciar Ghir for a captivating journey through the more energetic house realms, all with an outer space feel. 'Niriba Shuttle' opens with tribal percussion and progressive synths that are coloured by subtle acid lines. 'Silenzio' is slow, heavy and persuasive with its old school piano acting lighting up your soul. There's a twisted tech funk to 'Platter Dreams' that makes it perfect for 2am cruising and 'Bad Egg' sets down with plenty of colour. Review: Fledging but already fine young label U.Dig out of Croatia is back with more final gold, this time from a master of the form in Alexis Cabrera. He kicks off with the mini-epic that is '1997.5', a real head-melting and elastic acid tune that is perfectly deep and rolling for the freaky afters. 'Straight Up' is more punchy and taught, with low-slung drums and crisp hits powering it forward. Last of all things get brilliantly unhinged on 'Microrama,' a kinetic and densely packed cut with flappy snares blaring synths, withering melodies and a true sci-fi feel.

Review: New year, new label, and this one is out of Spain. Tiny kick off with an irresistible hand stamped and limited 12" from Ahmet Mecnun. The artist opens up with 'Jungle Park' which is a party starting and brilliantly filthy throwback jam that combines big drums, fat bass and reversed lines with prickly percussion. 'Act Of Darkness' brings some mutant acid lines and pulsing synths to a loose techno rhythm and 'Panic Mode' races ahead to the cosmos on surging cosmic lines and steely drum patter. Review: Baby Ford's Trelik label is as revered as they come in underground circles. Ion Ludwig is not far behind when it comes to his productions and so the two are a perfect match who reunite once more here. This fresh 12" kicks off with the brain cleansing minimalism of 'A Beladen Date 4 Ever', a silky groove doused in harmonic chords, with swirling pads and rubbery bass all tightly intertwining. 'Transport Fighter' is a more punchy cut with thudding kicks and heftier bass, but still a nebulous eco-system of pads and melodies swirling around up top. Two killer cuts. no doubt.

Review: Few labels do minimal as well as Trelik and in terms of artists, Edward is also as good as they come right now. This perfect pairing opens up with the deeply alluring 'Time' with its woozy pads and smeared chords over warm and rubbery drums. It's a hypnagogic affair then 'Vacuum Tube' has a more menacing air thanks to the wispy and unsettling synth details and clunky hooks. 'Watch Out' brings a more spangled and rubbery rhythm that has colourful details peeling off the beats and last of all, 'Stream' ups the ante with some thudding deep house and widescreen ambient synth work.

It is another essential 12' that packs in plenty of heat from the long-time UK favourite. The UK underground mainstay has been behind many cult and much sought-after records over the years and they all fuse obscure dub and acid tech house in smart ways. They were recorded between 1997-2004 and if you can find any OGs then you will be paying upwards of 100 quid for them. This slab has three driving but deep sounds carefully detailed with wispy pads and filtered vocals for perfect backroom deployment.

Evolving his sound since his last outing, here the UK producer crafts a cosmic four-track record that explores diverse territories with refined house textures. The A-side kicks off with the punchy 'Herbies Chanz' featuring an elastic groove and squelchy acid beeps. On the flip side, 'Viennese Whirl' serves up funky vibes for the dancefloor and the title track, 'High Times,' radiates feel-good energy with shining chords and driving beats. Review: Class Compliance's brand of deep house is one embellished with plenty of details and synthetic sounds that sit nicely with the more cuddly depths of the drums. On this new 'Plug & Play' EP for Space Repetitions that is the case once more. The opening title cut is one that rides on smooth drums but has metal textures and sine synths detailing the grooves. 'Dreams' is more zoned out - the pads are soft focus and the drums are super soft around the edges, then 'Mosquito' has a more distorted and lo-fi edge with crunchy percussion and busted kicks.

Review: Those of a certain age might well remember this early trance and breakbeat anthem from Life Form. It landed in 1993 and now on the occasion of its 30th birthday, it has been fully remastered for this reissue on Sound Metaphors. Right now this sort of sound is full back en vogue with all sorts of young producers aping those early glory days but few will match the quality of 'Come Down' with its slick breakbeat loops and alluring female vocals. There are two mixes, a Juan Ramos remix that is more downtempo and the captivating 'Summer's Child' is also included.

Review: The Soul Clap label that was once so hype has admirably rolled on once the headlines passed and anyone not checking in on it since then has been losing out, frankly. Just get your ears around this new release from Tatie Dee for a start - it is a stylish six tracker though warm and bumping house with real heart. 'Nuit D'Menil' kicks off with lush late night chords and slick broken beats and from there things get more heavy and big with 'Bed & Break Fast' and then a Black Loops remix takes it into late night territory. 'I Wasn't Born In 1937' has a classic 90s vocal house feel and is brilliant and '16 Swing-71' brings jazz, Chicago and swing to another characterful cut before a darker, harder Belaria remix.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Admirably no-nonsense house duo Dungeon Meat kick off a new label here, Slabs, which aims to serve up only the chunkiest hulks of wax aimed squarely at the club. Borren takes charge of the first platter and is the latest fast-rising talent to emerge from the ever-fertile Dutch scene. He has come up on a diet of Bret and Slapfunk parties and that shows in the tunes he presents here. 'Up Next' is heavy but silky, with gliding grooves and splashy cymbals next to cut-up vocals that will amp up any party. 'Beat My Shit' is another no-frills hardcore house assault with drums that have just the right amount of swing under old school chords and busy melodies that never rest. A fine first release.

Review: We know you're not supposed to because it's often said to be a cheap marketing gimmick but frankly, we love a good anonymous new producer to get wondering about. And here we have just that in the form of Skat who opens a new series with a one-sided 12". 'Skat 01' is a worthy tech cut with minimal drums loops and brushed metal surfaces all wound up into a tight groove and overlaid with some rudely vocal raps. This is our first brush with this artist but a fine one it is too with classic techno melded with new school ideas to great effect. 'Quantum Infiltration' opens up with thumping kicks and busy synth lines burrowing deep into your brain then 'Ultra Rogue Mission' has a darker and harder vibe with moody pads and ice col hi-hats. Review: You can never stop good music from making it out into the world and so it is that new label Secret Keeper from Ukraine makes its bow here despite what is going on back home. Luschn steps up for the first EP and sets a high standard with it from the off. 'Track 1' is tech with a menacing undercurrent and an undulating rhythm while 'Track 2' gets a little more loose in its loops. The mood switches on the b-side, where disco-tech comes to the fore and some deft melodies bring a cosmic feel to 'Track 3'. Last of all, 'Track 4' is nice and dry, stripped back and whacked out tech from another planet.

'The Next Tomorrow' throws it back to the 80s in its bright synth chords and 'Guitars On The 5th Cloud' sinks into a nice deep and heady mood with its melancholic bassline and skittish synth-guitar sequences panning about the mix over a soft acid gurgle. 'Don't Give Yourself Away' brings a touch of silky electro rhythm though a menacing bassline keeps things firmly rooted on the floor.

Review: Following the release of the (rather good) multi-artist EP, Balance, Satya is back to serving up solo showcases - in this case a third label outing from sometime All Day I Dream contributor YokoO. He begins in typically warm and woozy fashion, wrapping rising and falling analogue synth sounds, cut-up vocal snippets and tech-tinged electronics around a deep-tech groove ('When I Wait Next To You'), before reaching for more minimalistic beats, trippy noises and wobbly, UKG style sub-bass on 'I Look at You'. 'I Want More of You', which boasts selected vocal snippets from a late-80s classic, is pleasingly dubby, dreamy and ultra-deep - the EP's most potent moment in our book. German duo Superlounge's accompanying remix is a little breezier and looser, despite the presence of locked-in tech-house beats.

Review: Joe Babylon's cultured US label Roundabout Sounds has never rushed music out but when it does serve up new material it is always timeless and top quality. This latest EP is the first installment in the new All Hands series and it features some real house heavyweights. Frits Wentink kicks off with the mystic and lo-fi depths of 'Jellyfish, then DJ Aakmael layers up his soft edge chords and cuddly kicks drums with some muted horn motifs that bring the romance. The label head brings some upright drums and spoken word lyrics for a beautifully warm sound and last of all Detroit royalty Rick Wilhite links with Jon Easley for a final blissed-out and breezy deep house day dream.

It features lead cut 'PPPPP' - a smooth, frictionless masterclass in hypnotic sound designs and feathery grooves with occult synth motifs. Berlin's Ian Pooley then offers a moody basement house mix, Cinthie gets into some flailing and dusty breakbeat action and Yotam Avni remixes with a more melodic sound laden with lush bells.

Review: RFXN kicks off life with a new single from David Agrella which has seen early support from Ricardo Villalobos. First off he offers up his own Acid Mix of 'Perro Balearico' and it's a supple, deep and dubby track with liquid synths and prog chords that sound both retro and future all at once. The original is a more dreamy and spaced-out sound for 5 am sessions. On the flip is a more punch but still silky and warmly melodic remix from Mario Liberti before last of all, Gabriel Rai gets darker. His drums hit harder and the synths are moodier as he takes dancers down a late-night path of mystery and intrigue.

Review: Get your stomping boots on for this new pink 12" from the Revival crew out of New York. Bodeler and Manu Desrets link up for some heavy, straight-up tech that lands hard but with funk. 'Impact' makes just that with its crisp snare hats and thudding kicks all underpinned by a loopy bassline. Some trips out synths break out like fireworks at the midpoint before the tough, stiff, brilliant beats return. EPAU Sepp X Nu Zau remix with a more loose and fluid and freewheeling vibe - claps spin out, basslines bobble and freaky vocals all burst out of the mix. A killer two-tracker, frankly.

Review: Minimal heads will be chuffed to see that the third volume of the Dis Chronicles series has now arrived on Repeat. It is another stylish collection of Grant Dell beats starting with a cut as Chicago Transit Authority. 'Emotive' is a perfect blend of jazzy keys and skipping garage drums with deep house vibes and swirling pads to add extra heat. On the flipside, Dell links with Jay Tripwire for 'Cosmic Kebab' which leans more into tech house territory but as the title suggests has nice starry synth work and to close out, Dell goes it alone on 'Rhythmic Science' which looks you into his precise beat work and diffuse late night chords.

This time out Hilit Kole makes a debut with 'Hot Mess,' a raw and jacking house cut with rugged drum loops and a sleazy vocal that turns into an epic wail.
