Review: The Det 313 label is kicking off the new year with a bang and dropping a pair of brilliant new EPs on the same day in late January. This one is a reissue of the esteemed Gary Martin's 'Pimping People In High Places' on 10". It's the Woodword Ave alternative mix that kicks off and is a rough and ready percussive techno looper with hefty basslines underlapping and propping up the floor. 'The Medusa Touch' is a more wily and synth laced-late night jaunt with mystic energy and acid details that make it a deep and dramatic cut with real dynamism.

Review: Greyscale unveils its latest endeavour, the Spectrum Series, as a way to continue to evolve its offerings and this time it is with something that makes a vibrant departure from its traditional black-and-white aesthetic. The inaugural release features the iconic Lithuanian dub track 'Kasdienybes Sventykla' by grad_u & Eazystyle MC as a way of commemorating its 15th anniversary. It came as a double CD in 2011 but now gets a first vinyl pressing on a nice 10" slab of wax. The track itself taps into the earliest roots of dub in the 70s and traces a line through the 80s with its heavyweight drums and endlessly echoing bass topped by great mic work. Review: Phoenix G is of course an alias for the universally claimed rightfully adored Mr G, one of the UK's most long-serving and accomplished underground servants. His views on the game (which you can find on his Instagram) are as worth hearing as his music which this time takes him to his own self-titled label once more. As always it is deep, raw, emotive stuff that stays low but is high on emotion, however subtle. 'What's That Sound V1' is a dubbed-out and grainy basement track with scruffy drums and shards of light breaking through a broken window, then V3 of the same cut has a little more synth detail. Superb.

Review: Very limited double 10" from Berlin based producer Sven Weisemann, who pops up with his first original release of 2010. The self taught pianist, acoustic guitarist and percussionist is just as happy dabbling in jazz and soundtracks as he is piecing together deep house and techno, and across two sumptuous 10"s we are treated to the full breadth of his talents. The ethereal beauty of "Lateral Flection" offers nary a kick drum, with Weisemann instead focusing on layering intricate sonic atmospherics. "Tidal Wave", meanwhile, conjures images of a gentle ocean rather than tsunamis, and the sparse, barely-there percussion and ghostly whispers on "Placid Love" mark it as perhaps the most beautiful moment on the LP. A well worn phrase it may be, but these tracks need to heard through a nice set of speakers or headphones for the listener to fully appreciate the subtle textures and electronic nuances. Simply stunning.

Review: Now down to just Jay Haze, the Fuckpony project ventures into the deepest, darkest realms of the house underbelly to deliver two ruff and raw club tracks on the first of two 10" releases. "Hot Slave" is a pure burner, packing LFO-warped synths, rattling hats and percussion and a distinctive bassline pattern, building with a devastating techno riff. "Tiny Slave" is an equally jacking adventure, with even more warped analogue sounds, spacey echoes, bleeps and fx.

Review: Originally surfacing in 2001 and skimming into landing position beneath everyone's radar, this 10" provides an especially welcome reissue for two killer tunes from the little known Alexander Faehse. The title tune offers anthemic atmosphere with a "disco madness" style synth and emotive chording over a classic Detroit influenced rhythm which sure transports you into the outer realms, with something of a prime period Kenny Larkin feel. Flip for some downbeat science, reminiscent of many a prime Planet E cut.

Review: The second in Mr Stott's occasional series of bass heavy 10" emissions comes to us with little warning and incendiary precision - once again pushing his already heaving envelope further into stylistic progression. "Handle With Care", on the a-side, is a minimal low-end monster, a sort of dub excursion in 4/4 that starts off with a wobbling bassline that's barely containable and gets heavier from that point in. "See In Me", on the flipside, visits the fuzzed-out tape-loop interference of prime Rhythm & Sound, another low-end session that's as deep and emotive as it gets. Another out and out killer from this gifted producer.
