Review: Suburban Architecture is a project from Chris Read and James Curry which seeks to explore the expressive potential of drum & bass as a vessel for soulful musicality and rolling pressure alike. Carrying the torch from atmospheric d&b and the approachable tones of the Hospital Records crew, their latest 10" finds them turning to veritable legends for remixes which cement the angle they're exploring. Blame is up first, reworking 'Visions '96' in his own mould of melancholy, heart-rending composition strapped to the crispest of beats. 'Future Jazz '95' finds DJ Trace taking up the mantle and serving another masterclass in mellow, introspective d&b as pliable for the dancefloor as it is suited to home-listening reveries.

Review: Two of drum & bass' most rabid underdogs, Nookie and DJ Crystl, the latter returning only recently after a two decade hiatus - make a triumphant return to the foreground, joining Suburban Architecture in aid of the third edition of their Architecture Dubs series. A fresh fusion of old and new motifs, Nookie's remix of 'Renegade Horns' pays homage to a select juncture in the genre's evolution, recalling the era of "intelligent" drum & bass while nonetheless playing into the freshness and cleanliness that could only ever have surfaced after the 2010s. Crystl's version of 'New Horizons', meanwhile, is more refractive and dreamy, taking its required time to bask in its artisanal padwork, in contrast to its raw b-boy sample and frank Amen breaks.

Review: It is the Yellow Machines camp that is behind the Modified Magic label. It started way back in 2015 and is only now up to an eighth release some nine years later, but why rush things? This is another quality outing for fans of straight up, no frills jungle. It is helmed by Champa B who kicks off with 'Bleeps' which is indeed riddled with bleeps from a fax machine in meltdown and is powered by bristling amen breaks with drilling bass down low. 'Wake Up' then rides a bumpy and quick stepping low end with rave stabs, crashing snares and fizzing pads all re-wiring your brain.

Review: The dream team Dogger & Mindstate return to TNQ wax with this hearty package of soulful, hip-hop-influenced D&B flavours that was originally unleashed digitally last summer. Representing both their pathways into this music, from north to south, the duo recruit the likes of London's Verbz and Manchester's Sleazy F Baby to vocal and narrate their delicate, subtle but ultimately heavyweight rhythms. Review: The latest drop in the Mysticisms Dubplate series welcomes back Persian for another round of reggae-inspired electronics. Once again the artist draws from across a spectrum of bass, digidub and breaks and also throws some jungle into the melting pot. Opener 'Survival Dub' is powered by classic breakbeats and great mic work that is sure to liven up any party. 'Smoke Mari' then slows it down to a fat dub with a vocal sample from a well-known smoker's anthem with plenty of mind-melting effects and stepping rhythms. On the flipside is 'There Is No Love' with a prime junglist drop and last of all comes 'Zatoichi's Troubles' which has devastating bass.

Forever ahead of the game, Hidden Agenda's role in leftfield jungle soul has been undeniable and hugely influential since the mid-90s and it's amazing to see Jason back now and on such a maverick edge. Both of these cuts hit with a unique vibe and flavour that's so refreshing to hear. 'Dust' is a psychedelic wonderland that slides along with shimmering layers of percussion, guitar and keys. 'Cruel Sea' takes things a little darker as an edgy, unpredictable drive takes the lead. Think Krust's recent work on Crosstown Rebels and you're on the right planet. AKO Beatz never miss a punch.

Review: Sir Hiss and 4AM Kru set up a dialogue between London and Bristol, a stellar dialectic giving rise to a supreme form of lo-fi jungle. 'Earshots' samples a bhangra vocal cry, mixing it up with the scratchy factory movements of cut-throat jungular breaks. Review: As the name of the label well represents, Rasta Vibez out of Holland brings, well, rasta vibes to jungle sounds. The eponymous production outfit steps up here with more highly potent bangers designed surely for the beefiest sound systems to turn up loud and proud this summer. 'Greetings' is both energetic but fun, with wild ragga vocals unfolding at hyper-speed over the tough metal breaks. Flip over this rather nice transparent green 10" and you'll find 'Bam Bam The Alarm' complete with rinsing drum loops, naughty synth explosions and more ragga vocals that will blow up any spot.

Review: Fresh from his mind-melting album Terraform on Yuku late last year, Tenebre returns to his heavier breakbeat roots with this killer dancefloor dispatch on WNCL. Going in hard on the breaks both 'Half Stab' and 'Full Stab' go all-in with no compromises. Both armed with big distorted, bruising basslines, the former is characterised by dubby echoes and shattering breaks while the latter eases up on so many of the bouncing bass hits lets the breaks do more of the talking.

Review: Deep Jungle have delivered once again as some seminal sounds from Lucky Spin have been unearthed and reissued. Destination 1995; a West Country trio named Orca are making their name for themselves in the jungle phenomenon. Featuring early sounds from Decoder (one half of the chart-topping Kosheen years later), each of these breakbeat bust-ups carries a certain air of Bristol grit and euphoric rave energy. Review: Sister Candy's lost gem 'Keep Bubbling' has been dug out from some forgotten vault lost in time, and we're here fort. The killer jam was originally released 1984 on Raiders Records. It's that one which has been remastered here under special licence from Sir Lloyd and Sister Candy. It's got the flabbiest of bass ends you can imagine with great ragga vocals up top. The version is a real head twisting, filter heavy workout and the a DJ Sports remix brings a mad jungle breakbeat to blow your speakers apart and end the EP in style.

Review: What happens if you take a big vocal sample and drop it over a rinsing, old school jungle break beat? The first tune here, 'Opus III', that's what. It's a high energy affair that might well raise some eye brows given the vocal, but you can't help but admire it's all out joyousness and air of celebration. Flip it over and you'll find something just as divisive - another clattering jungle tune filled with kinetic kicks and flurries of snare, and once more a well-known vocal from Whamdo Project's 'Kings Of The Castle.'

Review: Bristol jungle lynchpin Dead Man's Chest is usually found steering the good ship Western Lore, but back in 2017 he did a series of drops for Ingredients billed as Trilogy Dubs. Originally available on the label's Bandcamp site, now the first volume is pressed up on 10" for some deck-based air time. 'Tears (Fantazia Version)' on the A-side leads with a sad-eyed r&b sample and some lingering piano, but when the drop comes its pure Reese power with a slant towards d&b rather than the jungle DMC's more commonly associated with. 'Rinsa' on the flip is a rowdy slice of Mentasm trickery - the perfect counterpoint to the lead track's solemn vibe.

Review: ASC's Waveforms series is yet another outlet for one of the most prolific producers in any genre you care to mention. For the completists it's hard work keeping up, but how are you going to argue with tracks as fire as these? 'Waveform 01' has a lighter feel thanks to the aqueous synth tones slipping and sliding around the crisp breaks, but it still kicks off in earnest when the amens come knocking. 'Waveform 02' is a more heads down affair, but as always ASC creates scintillating atmospheres around the drums which make the listening experience that much deeper.

Review: There's seemingly no end to ASC's offerings to the drum & bass world and so it continues on this beautifully packaged black splattered yellow 10" from the Waveforms series. 'Waveform 03' is an airy jungle excursion with explosive amens set off against vast expanses of pads, while 'Waveform 04' locks into a sleeker, techier approach where the icy atmospherics have more space to stretch out.
