Orobas is a dual tube amplifier that is composed of two identical units.

Each channel has two audio inputs with dedicated gain controls and one output volume control.
Thanks to clever routing, a wide variety of sounds can be created. The two channels can be connected in parallel or in series (Parallel / Series). In series connection, the output of channel 1 is still active, good for parallel signals (note: each channel output is phase-inverted in relation to the opposite input). This way, feedback can be generated by feeding back the signal from output 1 to e.g. a control voltage input.

The screen control voltage input determines the gain and the sound characteristics. Additionally, the input is normalized to INPUT 1 of the respective channel.

The Suppress control voltage input is normalized to the input signal if nothing is connected. The purpose of this input is to direct electrons reflected from the anode back to the anode. Turning the knob to the positive does not change as much, turning it to the negative slightly attenuates overtones. With a positive control voltage the change is minimal, but with a negative control voltage you can realize e.g. ducking effects and effectively switch off the tube. Audio Rate Modulation is also possible here and a bit milder than with the Screen CV, but still effective.

The evocation potentiometer controls the feedback of the second output into the first channel. The sonic performance is very much dependent on the Plate Bias switch. The Plate Bias switch effectively controls the headroom. This allows you to use the tubes in three different settings, from fuzz sound to full distortion.

Taking its cosmic inspiration from star charts and ancient astrolabes, Star Song is a rotating optical disc-programmed sequencer with a built-in minimalist synthesizer.

Star Song can be used either to play its own built-in pulsewave synthesizer, or in combination with the A.M.P. electronics Wave Expander (sold separately) to drive external analogue and modular synthesizers.

How it is used

To create sequences on Star Song, the seven translucent rings (orbits) of the optical disc are marked with a marker (included) or opaque tape. The disc is removable and additional discs are sold separately, allowing for indefinite storage of your favourite sequences.

The outer six rings control the tuned note selection and note-on/off sequencing. The innermost ring controls the cut-off frequency for the built-in bandpass filter.

Disc on/off and disc direction are toggled from touch contacts on the front panel, and disc speed is controlled from the central rotary control.

Additionally, there are 1/8" inputs to control rotation speed and rotation direction with an external source.

The addition of Wave Expander makes the Star Song into an incredibly versatile Gate(6 channels) and CV (1 channel) sequencer, as well as providing the Star Song's tuned audio oscillator over five separate octave divisions (four audio and one sub-audio), 12 outputs in all to integrate into your modular system.

Multiple Star Song units can be synced by using an external clock signal, and you can even slave Star Song to your existing Melody Oracle/Wave Expander combo.

Flame "Fire" percussion synth module

The module is a full 8-way polyphonic drum and percussion synthesizer. It offers different digital synthesis algorithms, which can be distributed over 8 channels. The sound engine delivers virtual analog sounds as well as different digital percussion sounds, which are generated with FM, wavetable or virtual analog synthesis. It is also possible to create sim- ple monophonic bass or synthesizer voices.

During development, particular attention was paid to direct and simple usability with regard to live operation. The hardware essentially consists of two parts (which are deli- vered together). On the one hand there is the basic module with all controls, the display, connections for MIDI, 2x CV inputs and 5 audio outputs.

There is also a separate XFIRE I/O extension with sockets for the 16 analog trigger/gate/CV inputs and 3 additional audio outputs. Both modules are connected via a 60cm long ribbon cable. In this way, the XFIRE module can be installed anywhere else in the rack. The base module is therefore only 22TE wide and can also work alone without the extension as a MIDI expander.

A maximum of 8 audio outputs are available. A stereo pair (outputs 7+8), plus 6 additio- nal individual direct outputs. All outputs are freely configurable. Two pages with settings for panorama and volume are available for the stereo main out.

There is a gate/trigger input and a configurable CV input for each channel. Two additio- nal programmable CV inputs can be used for further controls. Regardless of the analog connection, the module offers full MIDI functionality. Two MIDI inputs and a MIDI output/softthru allow integration into an external MIDI setup. The firmware can be upda- ted via MIDI Sysex. The created KIT data can also be saved or exchanged.

UTILITIES contains a set of simple auxiliary modules to expand the functionality of the PULSAR-23 drum machine. UTILITIES modules can also be used with any gear that works with CV signals (Eurorack, semi-modular synthesizers, etc.).

The modules included in UTILITIES can be divided into two groups:
1) Passive elements such as switches, resistors, capacitors.
2) Various types of amplifiers and waveshapers, linear, non-linear, controlled and uncontrolled.
Passive elements are designed to expand the possibilities of switching and controlling the PULSAR.

Linear amplifiers are needed when you need to feed a signal from a device operating in a lower voltage format to the PULSAR inputs. For example, it can be a step sequencer with an output voltage of 5 volts, while the PULSAR needs 10 volts to fully trigger the drum modules. Or it could be the output of a cassette tape recorder, which has an output of 1 volt, while for normal operation the PULSAR needs an input level of an audio signal of 5 volts. Non-linear and controlled amplifiers and waveshapers are designed to control the signal level, while simultaneously changing its spectrum, distorting its shape and adding harmonics. The circuitry of these amplifiers is very simple and based on the early developments of the transistor era, with its inherent beauty and grace.

Explore the sonic space of phase cancellation! Phase cancellation shapes the characteristics of all acoustic instruments. It forms the basis of chorus and phaser effects. It gives vibrancy to detuned oscillators. The vibrant sound of pulse width modulation or the roaring sound of animated supersaws are a small part of a much larger sonic space that the Triphase Oscillator is built to discover.

The Triphase Oscillator produces three different sawtooth waves at the exact same pitch but with independent phase control. These are blended in a bipolar CP3-type mixer, giving a rich waveform at the output. By blending in a wave with a positive polarity, you reinforce in-phase harmonics; by blending a wave with a negative polarity, you reduce in-phase harmonics. The phase differences between the waves distribute the harmonics from in-phase to out-of-phase. The result is a comb-filter effect, like the effect produced by an acoustic reflection, with notches and peaks spaced evenly throughout the frequency range. Conventional pulse width modulation can be obtained by blending two sawtooth waves with equal but opposite polarity. Supersaw-like behavior can be obtained by using phase CV with the same polarity for all three waves. But many other interesting spaces can be reached. For example, by setting the phases correctly you can cancel out the first harmonic and get a saw an octave higher, or cancel both the first and the second harmonic, giving you a saw an octave and a fifth above the fundamental frequency. Modulation then brings back these canceled harmonics.

The Triphase Oscillator is completely analog, built around a sawtooth core that is functionally stable and accurate but sonically alive. It has linear FM on all three waves, and an excellent hard sync that can create shredding harmonic sweeps. The CP3 type mixer gives good distortion at higher levels, allowing you to blend three 5-volt-peak waves without worrying about headroom. All CV functions at audio rate. With an LFO driving the phases, it can easily replace the classic analog three oscillator setup, and in this configuration it's one of the fattest things you have ever heard. But the Triphase oscillator is much more than a thickener, and can just as easily produce thin reedy sounds or subtly shifting harmonic drones.

Drone VCO:

Generates sound based on equations converted to analogue signals, there are sixteen equations selected by algorithm up pot. Four LEDs indicate equation number in binary mode. Three Pots modify numbers used by the equation, A0, A1 and A2, fourth pot Sample Rate controls pitch and speed of the oscillation. There's an expression jack input, EXP2 for controlling sampling rate.

Notes: The Serge GTO is a newly designed, complex multi-functional module which can be patch programmed to provide various slew and sample functions both for audio and CV signals, but also act as a (dual) oscillator or filter or bitcrusher or ... It is one of the essential Serge modules. The GTO is an offspring of the famous Serge SSG.

The Smooth section will place a positive and negative slew on input voltage transitions for lag effects, voltage controlled portamento and for low frequency filter applications. In Cycle-mode (cycle jack patched to the input), the Smooth side “will oscillate yielding a voltage controlled triangle wave LFO. A high level into the HOLD input will enable the Smooth Function to be used as a track-and-hold circuit with voltage controlled slew rate.

The Stepped function can be used as a sample-and-hold with voltage controlled slew rate limiting. In Cycle mode, a pulse applied to the Sample input will generate complex staircase waveforms for control voltage applications and for use as audio signals.

Each side has a temperature-compensated 1V/Oct input for use as an oscillator with a frequency range of up to 20kHz (left) and 8kHz (right). Each side tracks over 5 or 6 octaves.

The Coupler is an internal comparator which compares the output levels of the Smooth and the Stepped Generators. This output is useful for generating complex control voltages or random voltages.

Notes: The Haible VC Resonator is an evolution of Jurgen Haible's Resonator which was inspired by the Polymoog Resonator. As Jurgen stated: The Polymoog, an early polyphonic synthesizer, featured a 3-band "Resonator" section that allows Formant-Filtering in addition to its dynamic Filters. Such a Resonator is a very useful feature for analogue synthesizers. Each of the three (now overlapping) filter bands has a control for frequency, signal gain, and emphasis (resonance). The VC Resonator now not only adds VC control for each band, but also extends the ranges whithin which each frequency band can be set - adjacent bands can now overlap or even cross over, for instance the LOW and MED bands can now be set (or moved!) so that the LOW center frequency is higher than the MED frequency.

Jurgen's original Resonator (like the Polymoog) had a switch to select one of 3 basic modes, i.e. only one mode could be used at a time. The Haible VC Resonator now provids the same 3 modes as separate outputs so they can be used simultanously, e.g. for further processing like crossfading.

- Coarse and fine controls conveniently span the audible spectrum. Ranges further with external CV.

Modulator

An extremely wide range oscillator, spanning from deep LFO frequencies all the way up to supersonic sound! Four base waveforms and diverse internal routing options form a versatile palette of modulations for the CARRIER to feed on.

- Activating hard SYNC on the Modulator locks its core to the Carrier's heartbeat. The effect can be dramatic. Try this while phase modulating!

- Octave RANGE switch lets you quickly flick up and down between octaves. All the way beyond audio-rate and LFO speed octaves. Perfect for experimenting with different PM sidebands and taming the wide frequency range of the Modulator.

- Manual PW (Pulse Width) control and dedicated CV input for PWM.

Waveshaper

This isn't a classic waveshaper! Developed anew from the ground up, this waveshaper is focused on deep harmonic experimentation and audio obliteration. Each waveshaper parameter is capable of being "turned up to 11".

FOLD up to 5 octaves above the fundamental Carrier frequency. A ceiling forms at maximum, imparting additional harmonics.

FEEDBACK the waveshaped and phase-modulated audio through a signal path internal to the waveshaper.

AMPLITUDE modulation spans thru-zero, allowing for full-range ring modulation effects with bipolar CV or audio signals.

CLIP the final stage of amplitude with the switch to introduce a last stage of harmonics before the complex signal exits through the final OUT.

Switchable inverting attenuators on each CV input, for quickly inverting the behaviour of your modulation. The indicator illuminates red to tell you the attenuator has been inverted.

Two distinct waveshaping modes

A press of the shape switch toggles Mindphaser between RAMPOID (green) and TRIANGULAR (yellow) waveshaping modes.

These modes have a remarkable effect on the behaviour of wavefolding and overall character of the final complex OUT, in addition to TZ-PM Bus character.

RAMPOID mode folds more asymmetrically, with raucous, buzzing harmonic artefacts as you sweep and introduce TZ-PM

TRIANGULAR mode folds more symmetric, splitting the complex sine wave at its peak centre of the waveform. TZ-PM character is less raucous, and more smooth.

TZ-PM Bus

Thru-zero phase modulation in the ANALOGUE realm! Unlike its digital counterpart, analogue TZ-PM has its own character we've come to expect from analogue circuitry!

Inputs:

A, B, C, D - buttons for choosing the current pattern. When combined with chain, these buttons can be used to sequence a pattern chain. Individual chains can be support 16 steps and are kept in sync with torus's global clock.

Chain - button for chaining behaviours. Chain + A, B, C, D can be used to sequence a pattern chain. Chain + record can be used to record multiple patterns in series and then chain playback. Chain + clear can be used to clear all recorded patterns. Chain + tap can be used to reset the current pattern when it contains recordings.

Mix - knob and CV used to blend between the input signal and the recorded pattern.

Record - button and gate in for turning on and off recording. When a pattern is not recorded, record will turn on and in sync with the clock. When a pattern is recorded, record will immediately turn on and off overdubbing.

Oct - buttons for octave shifting pattern buffer playback. Oct buttons can be used to clock divide/multiply an input clock signal.

Reverse - button and gate in for reversing buffer playback.

Harm - knob and CV for choosing harmonic pattern playback speeds. Playback speeds include both integer clock multipliers and perfect intervals.

Tap - button for tapping in tempos for the internal clock. Tap will repeat the current note when the current pattern contains recordings. Combine with chain to reset the entire pattern when the current pattern contains recordings.

UTILITIES contains a set of simple auxiliary modules to expand the functionality of the PULSAR-23 drum machine. UTILITIES modules can also be used with any gear that works with CV signals (Eurorack, semi-modular synthesizers, etc.).

The modules included in UTILITIES can be divided into two groups:
1) Passive elements such as switches, resistors, capacitors.
2) Various types of amplifiers and waveshapers, linear, non-linear, controlled and uncontrolled.
Passive elements are designed to expand the possibilities of switching and controlling the PULSAR.

Linear amplifiers are needed when you need to feed a signal from a device operating in a lower voltage format to the PULSAR inputs. For example, it can be a step sequencer with an output voltage of 5 volts, while the PULSAR needs 10 volts to fully trigger the drum modules. Or it could be the output of a cassette tape recorder, which has an output of 1 volt, while for normal operation the PULSAR needs an input level of an audio signal of 5 volts. Non-linear and controlled amplifiers and waveshapers are designed to control the signal level, while simultaneously changing its spectrum, distorting its shape and adding harmonics. The circuitry of these amplifiers is very simple and based on the early developments of the transistor era, with its inherent beauty and grace.

UTILITIES connectors are made in the PULSAR-23 format on pins designed to connect the alligator clips. There are also adapters for 3.5mm Eurorack mini-jacks.

These new beings keep the lifeblood of all who came before in their new skin. These sounds are in part very old, but in part very new. They are referred to as... Fable.

Let your storybook adventure grows with the Fable Granular Soundscape Generator. The Fable gives you five all-new programs centered around sample and chop delay algorithms to create bizarrely beautiful networks of sampled and resampled sounds. The Fable uses a powerful dual DSP architecture to combine delay programs in series with granular sampling algorithms, each with its own analogue feedback path. Find unique soundscapes ranging from smooth, flowing ambience; to bizarre, organic reverberance; to chaotic, glitchy swarms.

So, what exactly is this granular effect and why is it a magical experience when combined with delay? Granular is a digital processing technique of micro-sampling, wherein short samples called grains are read from a delay buffer. In the Fable, players can adjust these grains by manipulating their sampling length, position, and buffer size from which they're read. They can be played at double or half speed for pitch shift and time stretching effects, play them in reverse, read from multiple positions, and more, in order to achieve different effects.

It's a powerful but complex technique and Walrus Audio created five streamlined programs in the Fable that explore different aspects of its sonic range.

Programs

I. Reverse Delay into Reverse Granular

Program 1 runs a reverse delay into a reverse granular algorithm, in which sampled grains are played backwards. Reversal and re-reversal build up in the feedback paths, creating a complex and organically shifting soundscape. Turn grain size down for long, smooth reversed transients, and grain size up for stuttering reverse glitch madness.

II. Forward Delay into Octave Up Granular

Program 2 runs a forward delay into an octave-up granular program, in which sampled grains are played at double speed. Swarms of double-speed grains build up in the feedback path for bright and airy cascades of sound.

III. Analogue Delay into Octave Down Granular

Program 3 runs a warm, dark analogue-style delay into an octave-down granular program, in which sampled grains are played back at half speed. Slowed down repeats combine with analogue-style processing to create deep, thunderous footfalls and thick, murky ambience.

IV. Multi-Tap Granular into Multi-Tap Granular (Grain-Verb)

Program 4 runs two multi-tap granular algorithms in series, in which multiple samples are played back from each granular buffer simultaneously. Multiple points of sampled sound build upon each other in the feedback paths to create glitchy clouds and unique organic reverberance. Time in this program controls time-stretching of both granular algorithms, changing both the length and tonal character of the granular effect.

V. Forward Delay into Randomized Pitch Granular

Program 5 runs a forward delay into a randomized pitch granular program, in which each grain is played back at a randomly selected speed and direction, varying between pitched up double speed, pitched down half speed, normal speed, plus forward and reversed playback from grain to grain. Pitch changes with each new grain, so play with the X knob in this program to control the rate of randomized pitch modulation.

These sounds carry artifacts of notes moving backward and stretching through time. They are referred to as... Lore.

Create the soundtrack to your storybook adventure with the Lore Reverse Soundscape Generator. Made up of five different programs, each utilizes different combinations of delay and reverb that feed into each other for time-warping ambient creations. Featuring two DSP chips running in series, each with their own analogue feedback path, the Lore takes you on an adventurous journey rich with themes of reversing, time-stretching, pitch-shifting, and vast ambiance.

Having two analogue feedback paths allows each program to incorporate a unique mix of affected and unaffected feedback. The two feedback paths interact and build off of each other organically, offering the user a wide array of sounds and behaviours to experiment with.

Programs:

I. Reverse Delay into Reverse Reverb: Program 1 combines reverse delay with reverse reverb with a focus on organically interacting feedback paths. Space and ambiance build as the signal is reversed, re-reversed, reverberated, and reversed again within the feedback network. Experiment with the X knob to control how reversed your delay trails are with left being least reversed and right being fully reversed. Lots of fun with big, eerie minor chords!

II. Reverse Delay into Octave Up Reverb: Program 2 is a "light reverb" that combines octave-up harmonic feedback with an expansive, airy, reverb tank to create a breathy, spacious ambiance. Use the Regen knob to introduce a playful shimmer into the reverb decay. Increase the X knob to control the decay of the reverb. It sounds especially great with delicate fingerpicking parts.

III. Reverse Delay into Octave Down Reverb. Program 3 is a "dark reverb" that combines octave down harmonic feedback with heavy filtering and harmonic distortion, to create a sound that is thick, rich, and murky. Use the Regen knob to bring a lower octave into the reverb decay. Increase the X knob to control the decay of the reverb. Add in some high gain or fuzz to alter the time-space continuum.

IV. Reverse Reverb into Forward Reverb. Program 4 is a dual reverb program, featuring reverse reverb into forward reverb, Dual harmonic feedback paths allow the user to dial in octave up and octave down, and time stretching allows for control of the size and character of the space. Perfect for instantly transforming guitar into rich ambient pads. Use the Feedback knob to add a lower octave to the reverse reverb. Conversely, use the Regen knob to add an octave up to the reverse reverb decay. Control the decay of the forward reverb with the X knob. To channel all things ambient, experiment with dynamic picking and strumming techniques with the mix fully wet for ethereal drones and pads.

V. Pitch Delay into Pitch Delay. Program 5 features two "duelling" pitch delays, which shift the input signal up and down in complementary or opposing directions, allowing the user to create intricate harmonic patterns in the feedback network. Behaves like a sequencer at higher delay times and like a harmonizer at lower delay times. Use Feedback and Regen knobs to control various amounts of pitched delay repeats. Use the X knob to change the order of the 4th, 5th, and octave intervals that the pitch delay steps through. Experiment with short staccato notes to create some very interesting rhythmic parts!

Dive / Rise - Holding down the tap tempo switch will momentarily shift the clock rate of the pedal down or up and will hold it at that rate for as long as the switch is pressed. The direction of the dive can be changed by simply pressing bypass and tap simultaneously. A green LED over tap will indicate rise is set and a blue LED will indicate that dive is set.

The Mod knob will control the amount of modulation applied to the wet signal. Holding down bypass and adjusting the Mod knob will adjust the modulation rate. The bypass LED will blink to show your set mod rate.

Walrus Audio give you the two most quintessential effects that yield unruly amounts of power and influence to an instrumentalist: reverb and distortion. They have been harnessed and woven together for an eternity of ethereal power with The Melee: Wall of Noise. The Melee unapologetically uses a joystick to meld reverb and distortion into one massive blaze of sound. With the flip of the order switch, run the distortion into the reverb or reverb into distortion; signal chain is your call now. For the explorer, the Melee can run one of three different reverb programs Ambient, Octave, and Reverse.

In a less is more approach, Walrus Audio have intentionally decided on controls that are fun to use and will inspire a wealth of creative output. Use the joystick to control the amount of distortion by moving it up and down. Moving the joystick left and right will adjust your reverb mix. The tone and decay toggles have low, medium, and high settings. Modulation can be added to the wet signal by holding down the bypass switch and moving the decay toggle. The left position is no modulation, the middle is a slight modulation, and the right is a high modulation.

Algorithms

The Melee is equipped with three different reverb programs, which can be changed by simultaneously pressing the bypass and sustain stomp switches. Experiment with the order toggle switch to hear how differently these all react in front and after the distortion!

Ambient Reverb (Pink LED) - Huge reverb capable of massive trails and engulfing your chords into an angry wash of sound. Great for soaring melodic lines or shoegaze-driven chord progressions.
Octave Down Reverb (Yellow LED) - Similar to the Dark mode in the Slo, you'll find an eerie lower octave hovering in the reverb trail for a nice and dark atmospheric touch.
Reverse Reverb with Feedback (Blue LED) - Add reversed reverb trails back into your signal, create gentle melodies or push into reverse feedback overload. Big, slow, and sad chords love to hang out here.

Momentary

Press and hold the sustain switch to ramp up the reverb trails. Release and the trails will ramp back down to where the decay switch is currently set. The sustain switch can also latch in all three programs. Press and release the Sustain switch to capture and sustain the current reverb decay for long pad-like sounds in your wet mix. Press again to release the latch, and the reverb trail will taper off based on the position of the decay knob.

The Real World Interface is a 3-channel external processing module intended for connecting with sound sources outside the system. The channels are oriented as vertical channel strips. The left and right channels have a built-in condenser microphone, preamp, envelope follower with variable decay and gate extractor. In addition to a preamp, envelope follower and gate extractor, the centre channel also has an Automatic Gain Control (fixed high ratio compressor), fundamental extractor (tracking lowpass filter), frequency detector and locked oscillator. Internal microphones are useful for introducing electro acoustic room sounds into the modular. Envelope followers can be used to have external signal levels effect parameters such as filter cutoff or level for building dynamics processors. Gate extraction allows external sounds such as metronomes, clicks, claps or room sounds to advance sequencers, trigger sounds or initiate other events. NOTE: USB power has inherent ground noise, so when connecting the UNO Synth directly to your computer via USB, you may hear more noise and interference than when the synth is connected to a USB wall charger or running via batteries. With the direct computer connection, you can reduce the USB ground noise and other interference by either using a USB isolator or a custom TRS cable into a balanced input on your preamp or audio interface where the ground is not connected at the balanced input side.

A serious trigger sequencer for generating complex, multi-layered rhythms. Eight channels of Euclidean pattern generation meet probability, modulation and CV control for real depth and power.

Constellation is all about rhythm. It is an 8 channel pattern generator that works by combining multiple dense and sparse patterns to create long, complex and musically interesting trigger and gate rhythms. Constellation takes a "parametric" approach to rhythm - there is no explicit step sequencing on the module, rather the rhythms are defined by euclidean (and more) parameters that build the rhythm mathematically.

Constellation aims to evolve the concept of euclidean rhythms far beyond the useful but repetitive patterns we often think of when we hear the term "euclidean rhythm". This is accomplished by by combining up to 8 individual euclidean patterns of different lengths and density. Each pattern may provide only a small component of the final output, but together create immensely musical and varied rhythmic material over a very long time frame - up to 999 steps! If each of those steps are 1/16 note in length at 120 bpm, that's a full 2 minutes of explicitly defined, yet non repeating rhythmic material.

In addition, Constellation's parametric approach allows any of these parameters to be modulated with CV through one of 8 freely assignable CV inputs. CV modulation introduces further ability for Constellation's rhythmic output to vary over time. Paired with a Maestro or Navigators, hours of interesting morphing rhythms are possible without the need for tons of step programming or the uncontrollable chaos of a purely generative approach.

When writing music, rhythmic interest is often built through the combination of repeating and non repeating elements that work together to anchor the overall feel but also keep the ear free from boredom over the duration of the piece. Up to eight voices of digitally synthesised drums, percussion and synth sounds from this versatile module, featuring virtual analogue models as well as FM and wavetable options.

The module is a full 8-way polyphonic drum and percussion synthesizer. It offers different digital synthesis algorithms, which can be distributed over 8 channels. The sound engine delivers virtual analog sounds as well as different digital percussion sounds, which are generated with FM, wavetable or virtual analog synthesis. It is also possible to create sim- ple monophonic bass or synthesizer voices.

During development, particular attention was paid to direct and simple usability with regard to live operation. The hardware essentially consists of two parts (which are deli- vered together). On the one hand there is the basic module with all controls, the display, connections for MIDI, 2x CV inputs and 5 audio outputs.

There is also a separate XFIRE I/O extension with sockets for the 16 analog trigger/gate/CV inputs and 3 additional audio outputs. Both modules are connected via a 60cm long ribbon cable. In this way, the XFIRE module can be installed anywhere else in the rack. The base module is therefore only 22TE wide and can also work alone without the extension as a MIDI expander.

A maximum of 8 audio outputs are available. A stereo pair (outputs 7+8), plus 6 additio- nal individual direct outputs. All outputs are freely configurable. Two pages with settings for panorama and volume are available for the stereo main out.

There is a gate/trigger input and a configurable CV input for each channel. Two additio- nal programmable CV inputs can be used for further controls. Regardless of the analog connection, the module offers full MIDI functionality. Two MIDI inputs and a MIDI output/softthru allow integration into an external MIDI setup. Capable of delivering a far more musical natural sounding and sonically transparent compression than competitive units in its class, the Pro VLA II uses an Opto-electronic circuit rather than the more typical design VCA driven level detection circuit. This VCA-less design coupled with a 12AT7 vacuum tube in the gain stage makes the Pro-VLA II the ideal dynamic control device for critical audio applications.

Exceptional signal integrity with extremely low noise and low distortion is achieved in the Pro VLA II by utilizing a transformerless design throughout.

Unlike typical compression units that use Voltage Controlled Amplifiers (VCA's) to handle level detection, the Pro VLA II's Opto-electronic design allows a far more transparent and musical sounding compression without sounding aggressive or un-natural. This Vactrol based optical electronic circuitry is the basic component of the classic highly sought after compressors of past.

The Vactrol design allows the Pro VLA II to react to audio signal in much the same way the eye naturally adjusts to fluctuations in light levels, smoothly, quietly and almost imperceptibly.

The Pro VLA II is a soft knee leveling amplifier by design. Although capable of providing dramatic compression effects, the Pro VLA II was designed to excel in any application where transparent, expressively musical dynamics control is desired.

Large highly visible backlit analog VU meters accurately display input and output levels while extremely fast 10-segment LED's display gain reduction. For added functionality, the LED's display either average level for mastering & mixing applications or peak hold for monitoring individual sources when tracking audio.

XLR and 1/4" TRS balanced inputs and outputs are provided to ensure the Pro VLA II can connect with any audio source or hardware. A +4 dBu/-10 dBu mode switch optimizes the Pro VLA II I/O for either consumer or professional equipment.
