Review: Eight years after their ground-breaking "Resolution 653" full length, pioneering duo Instra:mental make a welcome return with their new album Timelines, and this first selection of tunes from it gives you a good idea why. "Pacific Heights" is a jumble of minimal drum beats and futuristic synth smears that is atmospheric, while "Sakura" is more sparse and zoned out thanks to forlorn chords which speak of romantic pain. Things slow down into deep rubbery rhythms on the lush "Photograph" while "End Credits" has an unexpected Balearic vibe to it, with breezy chords making for a mood that feels akin to gazing out to sea.

Review: Czech label Detach launched back in 2015 with some low key firepower from Moll+, and now they're back with a split release that showcases some fiery upcoming talent in the field of experimental electronica. The sound DYL is exploring on "Phrases" is rabid and deconstructed, but equally bristling with analogue energy. Senking jumps in with DYL for the more rhythmically structured "Destroyed City Lights", which balances sweet and savage tones beautifully. DYL and DB1 create a stern, percussion led variation of electro on "Uniformity Of Nature" and Senking's solo piece "Launch" jettisons off into misty blue pools of synthetic expression, making this a record that surprises and satisfies at every turn.

Review: Following her arrival on the label in January, south coast soulstress SOLAH delivers her first full Hospital EP. Flexing the most musical, shiniest sides of the genre, positive vibes flow from edge to edge as she takes centre stage over a range of sweetly treated beats. 'Everything Is Possible' is all about the big harmonies, 'Fly' is a light, skippy bubbler with LSB style flurries and big subs humming beneath the textures while her arrival track 'Constant' still sparkles like it did back in January before 'Elevate' closes the 12" on a dreamy note. The vocal side of drum & bass has never been as healthy as it is right now.

Review: Random Rap Records offshoot Dinked 45 has hit gold with 'Happy (Hammond)', the first single in seven years from Chris Read and keyboardist Rob Barron's occasional So Much Soul Players project. As the title suggests, it's a cheeky and cheery Hammond funk reinvention of Pharrell Williams' classic which features Barron playing the famous melody - alongside a few wild solos - atop a sweaty, bass-heavy, breakbeat-driven dancefloor groove. It's a simple idea brilliantly executed all told and a guaranteed party-starter to boot. Over on the flip you'll find a slightly tougher, shorter 'Instrimental Mix' that cuts down the use of the melody in favour of elongated Hammond chords and more prominent beats, as well as a short 'Bonus Beats' drum track for DJs who like to get busy in the mix.

Review: Keppel was last on this label with a contribution to a various artist collection but now steps up with a full solo EP of his own. His unique take on techno is exhibited from the off on 'Stanley Knife' with its scurrying synths, drunken synth loops and drums that go nowhere fast but still draw you in. '194' is awash with kinetic synth sequences and distant dub chords that bring colour and 'Life Takes Rise' rides on another inventive and alluring rhythm pattern while the warming synth work gets you lost in thought. Closer 'Diesel', meanwhile, is tough, frosty, and more techno-leaning.

Review: Since signing to Hospital last year Krakota has delivered a progressively on-point stream of rollers and bubblers. Hot on the heels of "Ice Hands" and "Ghosts" comes the Bournemouth artist's first fully fledged EP and it's something of a vibe marathon: "In The Area" soothes with soft harmonic basses in a similar way to early Netsky or perhaps Nu:Logic material, "Citadels" is a floaty, cosmic meander through the jungle milky way. Looking for Krakota's harder side? Look no further than "Crash Pads"; all Experience-era detuned synths and swashbuckling amens, it's undiluted rave juice. Finally "Lazy Bones" brings us back to earth with a piano-shaped cushion... Before packing us off to sub boot camp with some very devious but subtle bass dynamics. Krakota's best release to date, without question.

Review: We can happily confirm that Enei is in startingly good form on his first solo release for nigh on 12 months, delivering a quartet of cuts rich in bombastic bass, punchy D&B drums and his usual aggressive, forthright electronic sounds. He hits the ground running with opener "Voices", a peak-time ready affair where quick-shot Amen fills and echoing vocal snippets occasionally punctuate a typically rolling affair, before reaching for one of the biggest and darkest basslines known to humankind on the enormous "Recoil". Veteran Bristol mic man Jakes lends his distinctive rap flow to hot-stepping Particle collaboration "Fame", while skittish closing cut "Rollin Machine" very much lives up to its title.

Review: Absolute flames from the Transmute crew as they put together this sweet trippy VA three-piece. Booca takes the lead and sets the tone with "Breath Of My Spirit". Jazzy keys and baggy breaks, there's a lush summery feel running throughout the blend and it's backed by the much more direct and classic sounding jungle of DSP's "Just A Touch". It's a various artist affair that kicks off with Simply Dread's old school roller, complete with summery flute lines and old school vocals that bring good time vibes. Review: UK meets Finland meets Poland by way of Germany: Alphacuts have recruited a crack team of forward-thinkers for their latest dispatch. Ridgway pushes the button with a star-lit halftime hybrid that borders on pure trance such is it euphoric width and scope. Deeper again Out Of Fuel provide the most junglistic cut of the EP with echoes of Photek in the drums and spatial dynamic. On the B: Elemental balances an unforgiving experimental aesthetic with a bassline that bounces with London pride and we finalise with Material's DBR-style doomy halftime roller "Tons Dub" that was tailor made for deep mix pleasure. No swift cuts needed here.

Review: German beat mutant Acid Lab dents the discogs on provocative burgeoning imprint AGN7 with four cavernous beasts. All flexing around the Samurai/Metalheadz axis in terms of space and palette, each cut hits hard with authenticity. "Secret Weapon" hits like it's 97 but on a halftime flex. "Unleash" is a savage Rupture level piece of breakbeat chaos. "Shadow Recruit" goes on some cosmic 160 Tipper style elastic bass funk while "Before The Storm" takes you right into it eye then blasts you out with a creepy breakbeat hurricane. Serious tackle, this.

Review: Moscow-based producer Marco Lazovic has scored a few significant releases over the past five years, landing on Lobster Theremin and appearing alongside Minimal Violence on a cassette release back in 2016. After Funkyjaws' opening missive, DJ Craft's Craft Music label has invited Lazovic to throw down his bold and brassy take on soundsystem dynamics in a modern context. This is mellow, melodic music with a hefty bottom end touching on red-lining electro and electronica in equal measure, slipping into ambient jungle territory here and there and overall creating a delightful trip for the mind, body and soul.

Review: 2020 has been a toilet for us all but the sounds of Zero T on labels like Sofa Sound and Metalheadz has been a much needed silver lining. Upping his consistency even more than usual, every release is pure gold... Especially this new one on Lenzman's The North Quarter. "Lonely Night" sets the tone as he remixes Mango & Mathman with soulful style before linking up with old friend Steo for the piano-tickling "Moments Fade". Review: Here's a blast from the past: an un-credited "mystery" 12" single featuring stunning bootleg remixes of a simmering R&B/soul jam. The "Vocal Mix", featuring slightly pitched down, echo-laden excerpts from said modern soul classic, is particularly alluring. The vocal brilliantly winds its way in an out of a punchy, jungle-influenced rhythm track, gut-wrenching sub-bass palpitations and just the right amount of illicit, urban noise. The quality of the mystery producer's work shines brightly on the accompanying Dub Mix, which naturally keeps the vocals to a minimum and adds extra percussive pressure. Impressive stuff, all told.

Review: All bless Synkro and his brand new label Synkro Musik. It rises off into the ether with two more truly startling, stop-what-you-are-doing-and-listen compositions. "Luminous" is a twinkling nod to the autonomic golden age with its layers of textures and rolling sense of momentum and soft urgency. "Weakness" is so much more delicate and emotional. Hazy, mournful and poignant, it's Synkro in stop-what-you-are-doing-and-cry mode. Finally the legend that is Paradox steps up for a beautifully spacious remix that teeters mischievously on his Alaska remit with a touch of Seba to the bounding energy and atmosphere.

Review: Denting the discogs of Repertoire, Samurai and UVB-76 in the last 18 months, Manchester's rising deepsmith Artilect brings new blueprints once again, this time on Horizons. Four cuts heavy, it's nothing but an all out love letter to the drums as we're ricocheted from break to break; "Black Fire" is a dizzying blur of Q&A edits and pranged out spatial textures, "Hoax" is pure bittersweet jungle rollage (think Skitty or Seba when he's in a particularly dark mood), "Deep Signals" flips with a stripped back stepper riddim allowing the atmospheres to blast in and coat the groove with illustrative ice while "Tryptamin" closes the show on the darkest note as shades of dub are added to the mix. Think 4am locked in with Loxy at Rupture and you're down the right rabbit hole.
