Review: Flying Lotus collaborator Thundercat returns to Brainfeeder with his first full album since 2013's superb Apocalypse. Presented over four coloured pieces of 10" vinyl, Drunk is a thrill-a-minute, mix-tape style trip through the multi-instrumentalist and beat-maker's various inspirations (think skewed hip-hop, jazz, soul, funk, left-of-centre electronica, and so on), all of which have been fused and mutated to fit his unique musical perspective. Review: Siouxsie Sioux is easily one of the most iconic musical artists of the 20th Century. By the time Mantaray arrived, circa 2007, she'd been in the game for more than 30 years, a career that erupted as the first sparks began to ignite the fires of punk, and one that still continues to this day. Like many with such longevity, her various projects, from The Banshees to The Creatures, grew increasingly artistic over the years. In many ways, this - her first solo album under Siouxsie, or Siouxsie Sioux - represented a move back towards more mainstream fare, albeit that's comparatively speaking and important to make clear we mean mainstream for Sioux. Nevertheless, as was acknowledged at the time, this is closer to pop than anything else, but still comes with the trappings of alternative, from dark twisted balladry to uptempo wildness.

Review: Zone Black almost never was. The KPM music library originally commissioned Emil Amos to make a collection of new material which could be used in television and film. A little way into this process, the executive who did that hiring departed, and the artist opted to take what was there to the Drag City label in a bid to turn it into a proper album. The end result is something between the two. For all intents and purposes, plenty here fits into the library definition, but this is a far more personal, deeper and coherent take on the format. The foundations of library music - commercial use - soon thrown out with the dishwater, and instead the focus was on creating movements and arrangements that would hold up on their own, and create entire narratives independently, for themselves. Removed from what's happening on screen, you can live in these tracks and nowhere else.

Review: 'Walk Like an Egyptian', 'Funkytown', 'Bette Davis Eyes', 'Physical' - a small selection of legendary songs from this titanic collection of American hits from the 80s that are featured in this compilation. Musicians that have had an international and timeless appeal, influencing modern charting acts to this day like Dua Lipa and even influencing manga artists like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure author Hirohiko Araki, who named characters after bands like R.E.M and AC/DC. There's not much that can be said here that the thousands of litres of ink spilt on icons like Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner - every name here has transcended the traditional pop cycle into household names, almost half a century later. This is a must-grab for the 80s collector, the nostalgic and the uninitiated alike. To call these tracks peak artistry is to put it lightly.

Review: Originally released in 2003 and now celebrating its 20-year anniversary, Indestructible served as the sixth full-length from punk legends Rancid. While initially criticised upon release due to the "poppier" sound certain fans took umbrage with, time has grown kind to the project which boasts some of the most personal penmanship from primary songwriter Tim Armstrong (of Operation Ivy), delving into his divorce from The Distillers' Brody Dalle (now divorcing Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age), as well paying homage to two influential heroes who died during the recording process: Joey Ramone and Joe Strummer, with the latter even being mentioned in the title-track. Known to be the final album with original drummer Brett Reed, and even featuring one of the most underappreciated cuts in their catalogue with closer 'Otherside', written by guitarist Lars Frederiksen about his brother Robert who tragically passed away two years prior, Indestructible deserves your reappraisal as it's slowly become the forgotten gem in the Rancid crown.

Review: This top-drawer reissue digs into the vaults of the legendary UMM Records label. It comes from 1992 and is an impassioned, steamy deep house by Rhythm 3 Request aka Carlo Montagner, Gibo Rosin, Maurizio Sacchi and Paolo Verlanzi. They released just three EPs, all within about a year of each other, but this one has more than withstood the test of time. 'Desafinado' comes in several forms with an After Hours mix laced with lush chords, the Hastenia have more drive but no less romance to it and the Red Zone is only a subtle tweak before Tribal Tracks gets more trippy.
