Review: Loraine James continues to trust her instincts and serve us some of the most honest and original music within the leftfield electronic sphere right now. Having recently paid tribute to the work of Julius Eastman on Build Something Beautiful For Me, now she retunes to Hyperdub with the record she claims the teenage version of her would have made. The label text makes explicit reference to the likes of DNTEL and Telefon Tel Aviv as well as math rock, but James is also way out in her own zone metabolising such influences into unique expression. There are some wonderful guest spots from the likes of RiTchie, Marina Herlop and Eden Samara, while James herself centres her voice for some of the album's most poignant moments. Gentle Confrontation is another outstanding chapter in James' ever-intriguing story.

Review: Now more than 45 releases deep into their journey, Apron Records have teamed up with Patta Soundsystem to work on their first various artists release. To celebrate this monumental milestone, both camps have collaborated to create a clothing capsule to accompany the release. Better Together is the slogan that runs throughout the entire collaboration, stressing how unity makes us stronger as individuals. A diverse array of offerings are featured here: experimentally minded offerings by Ashtrejinkins and Brassfoot, System Olympia does slo-mo electro, while sublime deep house comes courtesy of Shamos and Shy One, and label chief Steven Julien provides some emotive broken beats.

Review: In order to mark their 20th release, Invisible Inc has put together this tremendous compilation loosely inspired by Philip K Dick's dark, retro-futurist sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner. It's a willfully eclectic and hugely atmospheric affair that tends towards the cosmic and otherworldly, with contributing artists including a mix of experimental pioneers, lauded experimentalists and contemporary rising stars. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, with notable cuts including a languid, pitched-down Afro-cosmic remix of Richard Bone's "Saiyuji Dawn" by Daniele Baldelli and Marco Dionigi, the sludgy mix of field recordings and tropical ambience that is Komodo Kolektif's "Fire Walk", a glistening chunk of West Coast bliss from Secret Circuit, a deep space ambient dub masterpiece by Bal5000 and some impeccable ambience from long-serving electronic composer K. Leimer.

Review: Given the upsurge in interest in all things disco and boogie in recent years, it's perhaps unsurprising that Ibiza's Glitterbox night - established in 2014, and returning for a second season this June - is one of the White Isle's most hyped events. Here, the brand delivers its' first compilation, a two-disc mix-up of disco, house and electrofunk from Defected boss Simon Dunmore, with a third, unmixed disc thrown in for good measure. Packed with disco classics (Chaka Khan, Todd Terje's rub of Chaz Jankel), synth-heavy boogie (World Premier, Skipworth & Turner), breezy soulful house (Ultra Nate, Ten City) and stone cold anthems (Ashley Beedle remixing Bent's "Magic Love", Sure Thing, Storm Queen), it's an enjoyable romp through smile inducing, goodtime pastures.

Review: Paradise On Earth is Hot Creations' new DJ mix series, with the title doffing an over-sized cap to Jamie Jones' semi-regular Paradise club events. Volume one is mixed by two rising stars of the colossal-room house scene, Patrick Topping and Toronto-based Nathan Barato. The latter handles disc one, moving from the post-boompty beats of Derrick Carter and Moritz Piske, to the throbbing techno of Robert Hood. Along the way, Barato finds space to squeeze in cuts from Ian Pooley, Green Velvet and ItaloJohnson. Topping takes a different tack on disc two, regularly breaking up the 4/4 rhythms with older, breakbeat-driven house cuts, while also finding space for the previously unreleased "Acid Gadaffi" by Jack N Jerk, and Metaboman's deliciously woozy "Next Please".

Review: On this superb two-disc compilation, Opilec Records boss I-Robots shines a light on the Piedmomt area music scene in the 1970s and early '80s, showing how Italy's own Motor City, Turin, helped give birth to the Italo-disco scene. It's a killer collection, showcasing a range of obscure, little-known records that joined the dots between U.S funk, soul and disco, German krautrock, the proto-techno of Kraftwerk, and the synthesizer sounds coming out of the U.K. Remarkably, the 38-track collection contains numerous demos and unreleased alternate versions, drawn form the archives of the original producers and labels involved. If you're at all interested in the Italo-disco sound, Turin Dancefloor Express is an essential purchase.

Review: Dan Piu wrote this album during the "dark, dystopian times" of the last year. The record's themes take in nature, human life, sci-fi, cyborgs and plenty in between with opener 'Tru Confession' being a robust house track stacked with throwback breaks, futuristic synths and old school vocals. There is a real warmth and soul to the machine sounds of 'Un-X-Plored Exodus' while a certain sense of 90s New York house colours 'Upgrade System M59'. 'System Of Ethics' shows off a fine mastery of synth craft that brims with emotion and 'Asteroid Blues' is like a lost Kerri Chandler cut. Essential.

Review: Given Sven Vath's unique and long-standing career in techno, it's fascinating to think about what he was playing in the early years of the Dorian Gray and Omen, two pillars of Frankfurt nightlife. This unique retrospective looks back over the 80s and early 90s, touching on the early EBM, new wave and industrial sound Vath first came up through, capturing the early wave of Detroit techno and Chicago house, the first whispers of European trance and techno and lots of curveball selections in between. Review: Discophilia Belgica is a collection of 'next-door-disco and local spacemusic' from Belgium circa 1975-1987 - compiled by Loud E & The Wild. The compilation is not indicative of any actual 'scene', as most of the bands featured had probably never performed live. The selection of tracks featured here are the result of a decade of crate digging in flea markets, charity shops and vinyl trades - picking out what might appeal to a contemporary dancefloor or just to their own eccentric tastes. Highlights include R. Roland's French-pop inspired "Ethero-Disco" and Carl Watson's sleazy jazz-flute heavy "King Kong" to the C.C. Band's disco floor filler "Be My Love Tonight".

Review: The third album by IDM's next-gen darling Loraine James is here and similarly to her last works, Gentle Confrontation is an ever-shifting, collaboratively-focused album. If the name is anything to go by, then the aim of the game is to offer a sonic blueprint for artists trying to quietly, subtly, resist the status quo, while also keeping the family close and remaining level-headed and happy. Examining her past and present, James offers with everything from transstep trances made with RiTchie and George Riley, to math-rock and emo-infleuenced tracks ('One Way Ticket...') and even self-sung ballads ('2003').
