Review: One of the most notable voices of his generation, Jonny Clarke's tender tones have soundtracked many a crucial reggae record. His 1982 album Can't Get Enough is a fine statement of his skills and an original copy will cost you a pretty penny. Thankfully it has been remastered for this reissue which has the original tracklist intact. Opener 'Can't Get Enough' sinks you into a reverie immediately while it's like 'Morning Star' are slow motion rollers with buttery vocals over lazy dubs. Elsewhere classics like 'Give Me Love' and 'You Better Try' keep the good vibes going on this essential bit of reggae history.

Review: The Roots Unity label is in a real purple patch right now and has multiple 7"s dropping in quick succession. The one here is part of a slew of four drops from the Dutch label and it features esteemed roots talent, Bunnington Judah, with the in-house production team. 'Jah Children Must Rise' is organic island music with wooden, tumbling percussion and natty chords. The drums have fleshy bass and plenty of swagger next to the hypnotic flute leads. The vocals from Judah are the impassioned icing on the delicious cake. Flip it over and as always the Roots Unity crew serve up a bottomlessly deep dub version.

On the flip is The Rits Riddim Force with their 'Forward Lewi', a fleshy, warm and cavernous rhythm that invites you to sink in deep.

Review: A year after we fell for the first volume in this series, the Tarfari All Stars are back with Rarities From The Vault Volume 2 and another collection of earthy roots and lovers rock from an array of foundational artists. It is another deep dive into the vaults of the Safari label with music by the likes of Pau & Paluka, Leroy Sibbles, John Clarke and Maurice 'Scorcher' Jackson. 'Make You Move' kicks off with dusty and earthy riffs that are deep cut and topped with lo-fi vocals. Elsewhere 'Give Me Love' layers up the chords and wispy hi hats and Tafari All-Stars' 'God Is Love' swaggers slowly and seductively.

Review: Carlton & The Shoes were a Jamaican vocal group also known as The Manning Brothers. After debuting on Studio One in 1978, they followed up in 1982 with This Heart Of Mine, a now much sought-after slice of sweet, heavy lovers rock and roots for serious reggae diggers. Japanese label Overheat are doing the right thing and reissuing this absolute treasure of a record on the 40th anniversary of its release, letting smouldering joints like 'Never Give Your Heart Away' come back to life and charm a whole new audience.

Review: This 1978 gem from the legendary dub band The Upsetters gets a top reissue job on limited and numbered heavyweight orange vinyl. That is the perfect medium to experience these heavy dubs - many of which have been crafted by the late great Lee "Scratch" Perry. Originally this one came in small numbers as a Jamaica-only press but was then reissued by Trojan. Next to originals by The Upsetters are feature tracks by Dillinger and Sir Lord Comic. A real doozy, then, with a custom-made new sleeve.

Review: West London label D-Roy and their sub-label Niagara are in the process of putting out a top series of seven reissues with names like Freddie McKay, Al Campbell, Gregory Isaacs and Junior Reid all making the cut. This one is a gem from Barry Brown that finds him in full-on soul mode as he draws out his languorous vocals over a classic lover's rock rhythm. Swirling horns add extra luxuriousness and on the flip, we get the Dub Plate Mix. This one has drums tumbling over themselves, endless amounts of echo and head-twisting effects for the late-night smokers.
