It was a place of legendary magic, as this series shows on its fourth instalment. All the big dogs like The Upsetters, Augustus Pablo and Junior Murvin are present with their own distinctive takes on dub. Carlton Jackson also comes correct with his soul soothing "History" while a special 7" edit of Truth Fact & Correct's "Babylon Deh Pon Fire" is a rousing anthem for serious smoking sessions.

Plenty of the guests helped bring him rightful acclaim and this collection has all the rare highlights with Bonny Gayle, The Abyssinians, Junior Murvin, Max Romeo and more all making the cut. Review: Burning Sounds pay tribute to some of reggae's most crucial DJs with this new album The Magnificent 7. It is packed with artists inspired by the fundamental elements of Rastafarianism and they all speak loudly of the virtues of "living upright in those dread times." Jah Walton - later known as Joseph Cotton - kicks off with the positive vibrations of 'The Seed You Sow' before Big Youth gets deeper and darker. Review: Digikiller Records, perhaps suggestive by the name, are keen purveyors of proper organic roots reggae. This new one comes as a collection of dub versions by Jamaican producer Ivan 'Lloydie Slim' Smith, and compiles 10 of his best and most rootsy originals - not only his own tracks but also versions of tracks by fellow legends, including Sparkes, The Upsetters, Solid Explosion Band, and King Tubby. With its advanced harmonics and emotive lilts, this one rightly forms part of the Record Smith Production series, which continues the work of Smith's eponymous label started in the early 1970s.

Review: Since launching late last year, Harlem Shuffle Records has reissued a string of killer reggae recordings from the 1960s and 70's. Here the imprint offers up its first compilation, a 14-track selection of early reggae, dub and rocksteady hand-picked from the vaults of such legendary labels as Black Swan, Blue Cat, Duke, Doctor Bird, High Note and Trojan. It's a fine and hugely entertaining collection all told, with highlights including the easy, laidback skank of Stranger & Patsy's 'Tell it to Me', the trumpet-laden instrumental shuffle of 'Walk With Des' by Des All Stars, the Hammond-powered dancefloor heaviness of Clancy Collins' 'Brother Moses' and the prototype dub brilliance of 'Black Out' by the Hardy Boys.

Review: Philip 'Fatis' Burrell, producer extraordinaire, was founder of the iconic Jamaican label Xterminator, which began its quest for legendary status in the early 1980s. The label started life as Vena Recordings, before becoming Kings & Lions and then Xterminator. At the time, there were interesting movements taking place in black music all over the world, from funk to r&b to hip-hop, but the digital era of reggae and dancehall would soon follow with Xterminator playing a major role in its development. Fatis' core philosophy was perhaps what propelled him into the forefront of the music and drew a multitude of talents, who became some of the biggest artistes in Jamaican music history; the likes of Luciano, Sizzla, Mikey General, and Capleton. This vinyl compilation hears a thorough delving into the vaults of Xterminator, sifting tracks recorded from as far back as 1994 until 2003; a feat embarked upon by Fatis' son Kareem 'Remus' Burrell. Remus has been going through Fatis' 24-track analogue tapes; these must go through an arduous process of baking in an oven before being transferred digitally, hence the name Fatis Tapes In The Oven. Many Xterminator family members are included in this compilation, including Ini Kamoze with 'They Don't Know This', Marcia Griffiths with 'Jah Is', Charlie Chaplin and Josey Wales with 'Only Jah', and Wayne Wonder with 'The Way I Am'.

Review: It's no secret that reggae and dub are male-dominated, despite women playing pivotal roles in both genres (What would dancehall be without Sister Nancy?) The undisputed king of British dub production and remixing Adrian Sherwood invites 10 women from across the globe to sing in their native language, a project prompted by repeated experiences of feeling intimidated from dub due to the severe gender imbalance. Hindi, Arabic and even Romani are just 3 of the tongues across this project, of which there are no English lyrics. 'Haste Makes Waste' from Japan's Likkle Mai and 'Chavale' from the Romani of Kerieva, who has a certain Bjork quality to her powerful vocals. This record is powerful and beautiful, a perfect celebration of what community and music can achieve in tandem.

Review: Peckings salutes the great Justin Hinds - world-renowned as one of the foremost pioneers of ska and rocksteady - with a Treasure Isle showcase of six lesser-sung original vocal tracks, followed by dub or instrumental of each track on red vinyl.
