Review: There was naturally much excitement when A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead's surprise ninth studio set, popped up on streaming and download services back in May. Here it gets a CD release, offering those who prefer physical products a chance to bathe in its' woozy eccentricities. Seen by some as a return to their arty rock roots following an extended period spend exploring electronics, the album's 11 tracks draw on a variety of influences (krautrock, ambient, Pavement, James Blake, Stockhausen, intense melancholia etc.), with predictably impressive results. Occasionally elegant, string-laden and grandiose, always beautiful, and sometimes intensely moving, A Moon Shaped Pool is undeniably up there with the band's best work.

Review: Almost forty years ago now, the legendary pop-rock icons Queen played live at London's Wembley Stadium on Saturday 12 July 1986. This special recording captures the entirety of the show, which was as part of the band's European Magic Tour. Review: Peter Gabriel’s return to the limelight is demarcated by i/o, the latest 12-track album on which he reasserts his voice and compositional skill, delivering a profound and life-affirming new message. Embracing a Wattsian speck-of-dust existential theme, lead cuts like the title track turn the thought of "I’m just a part of everything” into a motif, while also touching on themes of injustice, surveillance and the roots of terrorism. But While reflective, the mood is never despondent; i/o is musically adventurous, often joyous and ultimately full of hope, topped off as it is, by the rousingly optimistic closing song, 'Live and Let Live’. Note that this is the Bright Side Mix of the album: i/o is not simply a collection of a dozen songs. Review: As part of Atlantic Records' 75th Anniversary celebration, the label has launched an extensive year-long vinyl series featuring 90 releases spanning the entire history of the company, from its earliest days until the present. Of these emerges this latest reissue of Crosby, Stills & Nash's self-titled debut album, first released on the label all the way back in 1969. The album features some of CSN's most well known and iconic songs; 'Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,' 'Marrakesh Express,' 'Guinnevere,' 'Wooden Ships,' 'Helplessly Hoping' and 'Long Time Gone.' This album saw a shift in sound to what was popular at the time - blues based rock - opting for a more folk rock, and sometimes jazz-based sound. It would lay the foundations for the California Sound that would be popularised out of Laurel Canyon in the '70s. Artists such as The Eagles, Jackson Browne and Fleetwood Mac would take inspiration from the sound of this record.

Review: One of the most crucial art-pop records of all time, 'Hounds of Love' was British legend Kate Bush's fifth studio album, her most commercial and most daring. "It was just a lot of work" Bush laughed on an interview with Richard Skinner in 1992, explaining the sudden resistance she felt following her polarising 'The Dreaming', the first album she also produced. Despite the fear, the pressure and the workload, 'Hounds of Love' is, without question, her most beloved, opening with one of the most treasured songs of the 20th century, 'Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)' that has been revived time and time again in the soundtracks of TV shows like 'Pose' and 'Stranger Things'. Steadily approaching its 40th anniversary, there's still so much to this record beyond its singles. The latter half of the album contains a concept mini-album, the 'Ninth Wave', a narrative suite of songs based on the Ivan Alvazovsky painting of the same name. It follows the psyche of a woman who is stranded in the ocean, confronted by the ghosts of her past, present and future. I could go on about this album forever, truly, and its constant relevance in the zeitgeist is a testament to the lasting power of these songs. This is the first time this record has been released in over 10 years, featuring the Fish People remastering on a purple 180gm vinyl, an obi strip tied over a spot finish sleeve.

Review: Whilst it's now impossible to view Leonard Cohen's final album outside the context of his passing, the fact of the matter is that this lugubrious sage had been ruminating on the nature of endings and goodbyes for much of his near half-century of artistry, and it's hard to think of a figure who's been quite so eloquent and wise in this endeavour. 'You Want It Darker' seem may a fitting way to bow out, but moreso it bears testimony to the fact that Cohen's questing spirit remained undimmed right until the last, and his travails in the exploration of faith, romance and the human condition were never to lose their finesse and bite.

Review: Emotional Rescue label boss Stuart Leath is particularly excited about this release, and it's not hard to see why. While Spanish singer/songwriter Javier Bergia is not widely known in the UK, his releases - either solo, or as part of the Finas Africae and Arium Musicae groups - are held in high regard by those of a Balearic persuasion. Eclipse is something of a treat, gathering together the best of Bergia's solo work from 1985 to the present day. Featuring Bergia's spoken and sung vocals atop a mix of gentle acoustics, atmospheric strings, delay-laden percussion and subtle global rhythms, Eclipse impresses from start to finish. It should be essential listening for anyone with even the tiniest interest in Balearica.
