Review: Who doesn't love Toy Story? It's an on going classic with a heart of gold, some of The best animation in the film world and most loveable characters to ever make the silver screen. Whether young or old, snuggling down to watch this sone is always a treat, and now you can bring some of that magic onto your decks with the red vinyl compilation album. It brings together some of the best tracks and favourite musical moments of the movie such as, of course the most notable song of them all, 'You've Got A Friend In Me (Para El Buzz Espanol)' as well as 'I Will Go Sailing No More' and 'We Belong Together.'

Review: Rock Hall Of Fame nominee Todd Rundgren is an accomplished songwriter and ever-innovative producer. Here he links up with someone just as talented in the shape of Sparks, who is an eclectic and quixotic creative and pillar of the modern musical world. 'Your Fandango' (served up here on a limited coloured vinyl 7") is the third single from Rundgren's forthcoming Space Force album. It's a wall of sound with space rock riffs, gauzy textures and freaky vocals. After this comes the album with guests spots from Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo and Muslim hip hop artist Narcy amongst much more.

Review: Caito Sanchez lives in New York but was born in Panama and is a dedicated drummer who has spent years as a sideman. He's been honing his craft since the early 2000s and has played with the likes of Charles Bradley, Lee Fields and Brian Jackson. Now he finally makes the big step of going it alone and this debut single shows what he is capable of. He takes care of drums, but also bass, guitar and lead voice on a pair of nuggets that are heavy and psychedelic Spanish rock tunes full of fresh new wave sounds.

Review: Well, the festive season is encroaching and so here comes a chance to nab another one of those perennial hits that sets the perfect jovial mood for one and all. Slade's 'Merry Xmas Everybody' might just be the definitive, ubiquitous Christmas anthem, and if you're partial to a bit of wax-based entertainment around yuletide, you can't say fairer than this singalong classic. Pressed up on a fetching marbled 12" with some other favourites for all the family such as 'Okey Cokey', this is your seasonal party soundtrack sorted.

Review: Limited edition, hand-stamped white label 12"s from Smoove, reworking as though each of its remixed originals were axiomatic expressions of sonic perfection. 'Dance', for example, has a well known 80s classic reworked to stomping, heavyweight perfection - stretching its vocals to breathy ecstasy. Meanwhile EWF's 'Can't Hide Love' and 'Playing Your Game, Baby' by a certain Mr White, unite over a similar subject matter; there's no point in hiding your love. All aboard the underground love train.

Janko Nilovic & The Soul Surfers have already turned our ears this year with a super 7" on Funk Night. Now they're back with another limited bit of 45rpm heat on Broc. Review: He might be a wise old rock and roll figurehead now just as well known for being a famous friend of former Present Barrack Obama (if you haven't already, check out the pair's podcast, it is well worth hearing) but the age-defying voice behind enduring anthem 'Born in the USA' still knows how to have a little fun. And it comes in the form of this special bit of white festive wax (a picture disc version is also available on Juno) featuring his take on two Christmas classics. These tracks throw it back to the heyday of the sound in 1970 but were recorded in Brooklyn, NY as well as Accra when Korankye linked up with Super Yamba bandleader and drummer Daniel Yount for a few gigs in New York City in 2017. Review: For those who prefer their soul kept raw and cerebral, Synod have got you covered. A formerly unreleased track by a band of humble origin - they first came together while at Concordia Teachers College in the 1970s - 'Anchors Away' and 'Sheryl Song Is Gonna Do My Dancing' are technically masterful, quirky AOR songs, packed to the brim with extra harmony and melodic ornaments, as well a pair of incredible synth solos, both of which cement a uniquely cosmic edge. Now released for the first time via Tramp, this delight of a band are set to enjoy a mass rediscovery.

The 10-man band recorded the sounds live at Rick Rubin's Shangri-La studio in Malibu, California back at the end of 2019. Their own unique cover of Cat Power's 'Metal Heart?' is the lead single and opening track and from there covers come thick and fast. Review: Buoyed by the international success of the band's unique blend of psychedelic Latin rock and jazz fusion, Santana landed in the UK in 1976 for a series of concerts. One of these, at London's Hammersmith Odeon, was captured on tape for broadcast on British radio. It's this incendiary and freewheeling set - or at least a big portion of it - that's presented on this fantastic live album. Starting with a rendition of their heavy, funked-up, Latin-tinged take on Fleetwood Mac's 'Black Magic Woman', Carlos Santana - whose expressive, stretched-out guitar solos take centre stage throughout - and his band-mates laid down exceptional, extended and partly improvised versions of such classics as 'Gypsy Queen', 'Revelations' and - most explosively - 'Soul Sacrifice'.

Review: Santana's Amigos album from 1976 stands out as a Latin-infused rock masterpiece that often goes unnoticed due to the absence of their most popular hits. Nonetheless, it is regarded as one of their most captivating albums, resonating with listeners through its infectious energy and musical prowess. The opening track, 'Dance Sister Dance (Baila Mi Hermana),' showcases Santana's exceptional guitar skills, complemented by a solid rhythm section that propels the melodies to new heights. The album features standout tracks like the heartfelt ballad 'Take Me With You,' the dynamic 'Let Me,' and the grandiose 'Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile).' With its recent reissue on vinyl, Amigos becomes essential for both loyal Santana enthusiasts and those discovering the band's music for the first time. Embracing the fusion of Latin rhythms and rock elements, this album continues to captivate audiences and solidify Santana's legacy in the realm of musical excellence.

Reissued by Demon over a decade ago on CD, a vinyl repress is long since overdue and now the beautiful people over at Music On Vinyl have opted to re-distribute the underrated seasoned gem on translucent blue vinyl with the 180 gram numbered audiophile treatment. Review: Philip Sayce's highly anticipated new album, The Wolves Are Coming, is more powerful, unique, and brash than anything he has written or recorded to date. In Sayce's own words, the album came into focus during his darkest times, and represents a bridge - a connection between despair and hope - that invites broken spirits into transformation and healing. The likes of 'Oh! That Bitches Brew' and 'Backstabber' hit like hurricanes, while 'Lady Love Divine' explores light in contrast to darkness, deploying an uplifting, foot-stomping funk groove that lands its hooks in all the right places. Ballads like 'It's Over Now' and the magical instrumental 'Intuition' round out Sayce's signature fuzz tones and sledgehammer mountain- sized drum grooves with delicate, intimate, and dynamic performances.

Review: Shango is the name for the Yoruba 'Thunder God' in Nigeria and Ojo Okeji, the leader of the Shango Dance Band was all about injecting military power and warlike energy in his own strain of Nigerian highlife and afrobeat. However, apart from all of Okeji's cult-like stories involving him and his part in the Nigerian army during a time of civil unrest in the late 60's and through to the 70's, and his often troublesome relationship with the great Fela Kuti, the truly special aspect of the Shango Dance Band album is that it was never properly released following its production in 1974. Comb & Razor have done the right thing here and, without them, this magical LP would still be locked away in the never-ending vaults of Nigerian music. This is very personal, incredibly singular African jazz-dance with a raucous psychedelic edge that lifts it high and mighty above the competition. A truly special album - DO NOT MISS IT.

Shinedown make just the kind of heavy electronic rock that could put Bring Me The Horizon to shame. Boundless and headbanging in scope, their new album 'Planet Zero' explores an American pre-apocalypse - "there might be no tomorrow" - inspired by the band's exasperation with the American political climate emergent over the course of the past few years and into the present. With the US referred to by the band as "planet zero", here's an emotive rock album that makes bittersweet do with the face of things.

It was the first tune to have frontman Erik Gronwall after ZP Theart was dismissed from the group in March 2022. It got an overwhelmingly positive reception from fans and critics alike. The ensuing album is just as much of a hit with Skid Row fanatics. It has an upbeat feeling nod to their most classic sound with plenty of big vocals, charismatic deliveries and standout tunes that hark back to the 80s and 90s heyday.

It paid off and the album that was originally released in 1991 became a classic with fans old and new. As far back as 1973 they put out this collection of their sounds and it was certified Silver the same month and remained in the UK charts for an impressive six months. It is a glam rock masterpiece that actually came with a very different tracklisting in America. This UK version though features the band's eight hit singles up to the time of release and five tracks that came before they found their first commercial success. It's a fine testament to one of the UK's best loved bands of the era.

Yet fear not: on the evidence of Monuments To An Elegy, the combination of riff attack, fragile melody and plaintive melancholy that was at the heart of the Pumpkins' classic work is very much present and correct, not to mention Corgan's charismatic songwriting suss. Monuments To An Elegy is a fitting title, for both the rock solid and emotionally engaging elements of classic Pumpkins are here explored anew.

Review: A new Bruce Springsteen album is always exciting. The Boss' hardworking and hard-done-by fables, touching on the politics and socio-economics tearing America apart, still resonate. If anything, they have become more relevant in an age when class struggles have created deep cultural divides, meaning any reminder of the real enemy is a welcome release.

Save for 2014's collection of covers and alternative versions, High Hopes, Letter To You is Springsteen's first full length since 2012, and will delight die harders - this is what they've been waiting for. Opening with 'One Minute You're Here', gruff rock 'n' roll set among the railroad tracks of Nowheresville, post-industrial decline, sets the tone. This is the artist on full power, an orator of broken dreams and heartfelt promises, a guy who will always be there for us because it feels like he's one of us. The king is back, long live the king.

Review: The Boss wouldn't know how to quit even if he fancied trying - maybe it's the leftover work ethic of the humble upbringing that has been a consistent theme throughout his work since we first heard Greetings From Wild Asbury Park, N.J.. 20 studio albums or so later, and we have a fittingly titled new addition to the LP discography, Only the Strong Survive, a rare example of Bruce Springsteen performing and recording work by other artists.

Apparently spurred on in part by memories of his experience working on We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, his 2006 ode to Pete Seeger, and the mixed bag of largely negative and unnerving emotions we all went through in lockdown, the Great American songwriter set about not writing but singing and playing a load of covers in a series of studio takes. The result is a gem - tracks by Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Frankie Valli, The Commodores, Four Tops and Ben E. King prove, if there was ever any doubt, that Springsteen can turn to anything and make it his own.

It all began in January 1973 when the legendary rocker dropped his debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ which is now back in print in several different formats as a "hybrid" remastered version that brings together both regular and "super audio" versions. Bluesy rockers, semi-acoustic treats, funky workouts and plenty more all feature on this limited edition 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

Review: Bruce Springsteen's celebrated debut album returns to stores, this time in a "hybrid" remastered form, which features both regular and "super audio" versions. Released way back in January 1973, the set announced the arrival of "the Boss" as a future great, received warm reviews (at the time, Rolling Stone critic Lester Bangs highlighted the dexterity and social commentary of Springsteen's lyrics), and is now considered one of the greatest debut albums of all time. It has certainly held up well, with Springsteen and has band delivering a mixture of bluesy rockers, semi-acoustic treats, surprisingly funky workouts, and songs that still sound as fresh and potent as they did half a century ago.

Review: Ace Records continue their series of compilations from Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, tapping into unique niches of British music culture under titles like English Weather and The Tears Of Technology to arrive at this latest joint, Fell From The Sun. This is a specific trip into the downtempo, after hours sounds prevalent in 1990-1991, as the acid house wave broke and Balearic selector ethics seeped into studio practice. The selections are absolutely on point, from The Orb's majestic remix of Primal Scream's 'Higher Than The Sun' to Saint Etienne's own moody roller, 'Speedwell'. It's bouncy and boundlessly optimistic as well as being supremely chill, absolutely of its time but still ringing with an eternal charm that feels ready for a revival. Let this compilation be your guide.

Review: Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs of Saint Etienne fame are the diggers behind this new rock assemblage which pays tribute to mid-afternoon set times at lesser-known festivals from years gone (well, the 70s) such as Deeply Vale, Bickershaw, Krumlin, Weeley, and Plumpton. They were just as important to those who attended as the more celebrated likes of Glasto' and this collection shows the sounds were just as good, too. The sounds - from big names liek Deep Purple, Hawkwind and Alan Parker & Alan Hawkshaw to lesser known acts like Jonesy, will appeal to hippies and bikers alike with big riffs, funky drumming and some psyched-out sounds.

Review: The classic 1977 album Aja by Steely Dan gets a deluxe reissue treatment from Analogue Productions, reminding us once more of its stellar jazz-inspired arrangements, complex harmonies, and impeccable composition. Known affectionately as a 'studio is an instrument' album, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker were meticulous and uncompromising at the time of its crafting. It's for these reasons alone that Aja remains a masterpiece, in which titles such as Peg, Deacon Blues and Josie resounding again with blues-pop-rocky flair.

Review: Every Steely Dan album is a world within itself - part of a broader galaxy of planets that share the same energy source, but ultimately unique and never interchangeable. Can't Buy A Thrill was the very beginning of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's revered project, fabled for its exacting studio prowess and ruthless commitment to perfection. There's immediacy to the likes of stone-cold pop classics 'Do It Again' and 'Reelin' In The Years', but this is still sublime and subversive music from a band who flew out of the gate fully realised. Now the album has been given a shiny fresh pressing so if you don't own it already, this is the time.

Review: Did Steely Dan go Bisto on us and save the best for last? Maybe, just maybe. While Pretzel Logic didn't mark the end of all things The Dan, it was the final album to feature the full lineup - Walter Becker, Donald Fagen, Denny Dias, Jim Hodder, and Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter (prior to the latter joining The Doobie Brothers). It was also the last to be released while the group were actively touring, and as such can be seen as something of a swan song. Perhaps Magnus Opus is a more appropriate turn of phrase. Critically acclaimed at the time, the record sees the jazz rockers opt to tone down the instrumentals that had cost them radio play with preceding LP, Countdown to Ecstasy, and instead focus on shorter, more direct and certainly catchier tunes. That's not to mean throwaway, mind, with praise lauded on the release at the time, when it was reissued in the late 1980s and remastered a decade or so later. Back again, it still has the same impact.

Review: Steely Dan are the kind of band where everyone has their favourite album, with a fanbase who might well get a little heated debating which phase of the band is superior. But when it comes down to it, everyone will agree Aja is their masterpiece, where that exacting studio process and the elevated songwriting hit some magical sweet spot that yielded the semi-mythical perfect album. The grooves are so slinky as 'Black Cow' opens the record up, they spring with joy out of 'Peg' and they lock down heavy on 'Josie', and there's so much more in between. This faithful reproduction from Analogue Productions is a limited audiophile edition for a band who were made for audiophiles.

Review: Jumping back to the early days of Steely Dan, it's easy to forget they were still a rock band at heart. Drop the needle on Countdown To Ecstasy and let 'Bodhisattva' kick in - sure, the jazzy tendencies of Becker and Fagen elevate this above traditional bluesy fare, but it's still a kicking, overdriven sound on the guitars front and centre. Such obsessing over the details is part and parcel of Steely Dan, the band so fabled for their own obsessions in the studio, and so adored by nearly everyone in the world. There will never be enough reissues of these albums to reach the ears of everyone who needs them, but be thankful you can cop yourself a pristine piece from one of the greatest of all the bands.

Review: An end-of-year reissue campaign makes for a nice retrospective of the best works of American rockers Steely Dan, formed in part by this reissue of their seventh studio album, Gaucho. A monumental effort in ensemble recording, Becker and Fagen exploited the labour-power of over 42 different session musicians and supporting cast members for. this feat, notably exceeding the budget advanced to them by MCA. With a greater focus on rhythmic progression and atmospherics than songwriting compared to their earlier works, it made sense for the group to lay down just seven tracks, with the likes of 'Hey Nineteen' and 'Glamour Profession' standing out as luminaries of their ever-so-yachty corner.

Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's relentless pursuit of perfection and blue-eyed soul gifted us a whole heap of stunning albums, and their fiercely devoted fanbase would fight tooth and nail over which one gets the top spot. Our money would be on Aja though, given its enduring influence, its rich extended life through a whole host of sampling and the quite simply flawless run of songs, composition, production and beyond. It's one of the greatest albums out there, and you'd do well to grab a copy if you don't own it already.

Review: Gaucho was the seventh studio album from soft-pop-rock-jazzists and yacht rock pioneers Steely Dan. Released in 1980, they would embark on a tour to mark the record's arrival, and then vanish for 20 years. Or at least go on extended hiatus. That's not surprising, given the back story here, with widespread creative disagreements and a three-way legal battle with MCA and Warner Bros ensuing. And an original budget blown by the sheer scope of 42 musicians contributing to the work. The Lost Gaucho is almost an unplugged version of all that. These are the alternative versions recorded in the early sessions that led to the final LP. Broadcast on radio as part of the promotional campaign, they've been compiled on this joyfully smooth and seductive package, which fans need in their lives.

Review: "Kind" is the eleventh full-length album from Welsh rockers Stereophonics, recorded in only eleven days. Produced by George Drakoulias (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Primal Scream), along with primary songwriter Kelly Jones, the 10 tracks across the album carry a strong folk and Americana influence, but are commandeered by Jones' observational and expressive lyrics. The result is an uplifting and endearing collection of tracks, which should win over newcomers as well as please long-time fans.

Review: The pairing we didn't know we needed - Rod Stewart and Jools Holland - share their latest full-length album Swing Fever, a worthy throwback to the swing music of yore. A 13-track sparkling salute to the timeless songs of the big band years, and reignited by two giants of their craft, this unlikely dialogue between such titans has produced a convincingly diegetic and immersive work, avoiding any overt pratfall of pure anachronism by producing a roomy, spacious and overall future-present work of art, one which confidently reignites the feeling of Charlestonning and jitterbugging in school proms and/or formal bally occasions, until such quaint aerialisms can be performed no more, whether due to nostalgic satiation or mere exhaustion. With peerless dexterity, Stewart and Holland deliver their takes on timeless jazz classics like 'Ain't Misbehavin', 'Frankie And Johnny', 'Sentimental Journey' and 'Lullaby Of Broadway'.

Review: Definitely one for The Stooges Geek Den, or whatever the inner circle of fans is actually called (let's face it, probably not that). A Fire of Life doesn't actually contain any songs that we're not already familiar with, but it's how the songs were recorded that makes all the difference here. Each was captured directly into one mixing desk or another during the band's original iteration, back when guitarist Ron Asheton was still playing guitar.

Some of these were studio sessions, others live shows, all of them remind us of their unbridled and unfettered talent. Spread out across two vinyls, we have all the big anthems from the first two albums, with many not just re-recorded but full-blown alternative versions of tracks. Released to coincide with the now-legendary 1972 King's Cross concert (another in-the-know fact that will appeal to many), it's a special edition to behold.

An amazing tribute to the original Sweet, now that all three members have unfortunately passed away, with an incredible 1-2 punch on side C with 'Love Is Like Oxygen' and 'Funny Funny' back to back - just a short two track highlight, but truly covering the breadth and depth of the power of Sweet.
