Review: Are AC/DC the greatest living rock & roll band? Is Angus Young the world's finest lead guitarist? Personal opinions aside, the motoring, riff-heavy, blues-infused legends certainly rank among the most successful and inimitable bands on the circuit, even if time is against them these days, with co-founding brother Malcolm Young now playing rhythm guitar in the sky and frontman Brian Johnson struggling with his own health. Nevertheless, the guys keep on keeping on, a determination bordering on an art form in itself which this lot are particularly adept at, having lost their beloved first lead singer, Bon Scott, back in 1980, only to recover with one of the best selling records of all time, Back In Black. Live At The Old Waldorf offers a snapshot of the period in which Scott was emerging as one of rock's finest, wittiest and cleverest songwriters, while the band itself had youth on their side. A priceless relic from a precious time.

Review: Captured over two consecutive nights during the summer of 2022 as part of their inaugural Born & Raised Festival in their hometown of St. Catharines, Ontario, this double live LP from Canadian post-hardcore legends Alexisonfire offers up a career-spanning victory lap; boasting cuts from 2022's acclaimed comeback record Otherness, whilst journeying all the way back to their early screamo days to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 2002's self-titled debut with the dusting off of 'A Dagger Through The Heart Of St. Angeles' as well as the first ever live performance of 'Jubella' (making this pressing a must have for sycophantic collectors). In between, there's time for a barrage of the band's biggest singles such as 'Boiled Frogs', 'Young Cardinals', and the mammoth 'This Could Be Anywhere In The World', while there's no denying the palpable, circular aura of headlining their own curated festival mere miles from the small clubs where the members initially cut their teeth. A must have live greatest hits/deep cuts compilation for the heartskull kid in all of us, from the only band ever.

Review: Fantasia by Juan Almeida is the next album in My Bongo's faultless Cuban Classics series and is a true outlier that you (we) find hard to put into any specific existing category. Almeida is a key figure in the Cuban revolution who also composed over 300 songs. This album, produced by Rafael Somavilla, is an eclectic instrumental journey that draws on Latin jazz-funk, trippy electronics and classical orchestration to at times feel like a grand, ghostly film score with repeating passages evoking spectral images while at others it explodes into exotic funk, psychedelic tones, and Afro-Cuban percussion. This one is a deep listen that is much sought-after by collectors so makes for another great reissue.

Review: Cork based Irish post-black metal pioneers Altar Of Plagues are often cited as one of the pioneering acts to combine elements of second wave tremolo-picking, blast-beating black metal with post-rock and euphoric shoegaze which has since been popularised by artists such as Deafheaven and Liturgy. Trilogy serves as an encapsulation of the band's three vital full-lengths, White Tomb (2009), Mammal (2011), and the epic swansong Teethed Glory & Injury (2013), all re-issued with new artwork and design, as well as being remastered for vinyl from the original tapes. Likely to be the final time these works are ever pressed to wax, at least by label home Prosthetic Records; this is a definitive collector's piece of one of the most underrated and integral contributors and elevators to the black metal genre in the 21st century.

Review: Originally released in September 1981, Scottish band Altered Images' debut album featured the classic hit single 'Happy Birthday' which reached number two in the charts and was produced by Martin Rushent, who is maybe best known for his work with Human League, Stranglers and Buzzcocks. The rest of the album was produced by Steven Severin of Siouxsie and The Banshees and achieved a Silver Disc having sold over 60,000 copies. This half-speed master edition is presented in its original sleeve, pressed on 180-gram heavyweight black vinyl with an obi strip, and housed in a poly-lined inner sleeve so is a luxurious edition for fans old and new of what remains a classic album of the era when post-punk was morphing into jangly indie.
